Jacobus misses the wolf once again, but as Serolt lights the area, a shining Regin wades into the fray and manages to hit and slightly wound the wolf with its bite, although – as expected by her master – she cannot trip her enemy. Roksana moves closer and incites her allies to fight cooperatively, but she can’t reach the wolf yet.

The large, black-furred wolf now focuses his attacks on Serolt’s firepelt cougar, in a sort of animal feud. The wolf bites Regin at her neck, but can’t trip her. After the attack, with an unlikely spark of tactical acumen, the wolf steps back in order to avoid flanking.

Jacobus’ swing misses wildly, just like all of Regin’s savage attacks except for the last one, which actually wounds the big wolf. Serolt misses the beast as well.

Roksana swiftly moves in flanking position, managing to also avoid the wolf’s attack. She attack the black beast and although her strength is still weakened by her past disease, she manages to hit the wolf violently with her warhammer. The wolf roar furiously at her, and suddenly he…SPEAKS! “I will hunt you down!” says the wolf in a raucous, roaring voice as he withdraws from combat. Roksana and Regin both get a last chance to hit the beast before it goes away, and Serolt and Jacobus can both try and make ranged attacks at it.

He mushes the berries and mixes them with water to force the gag relax of his patient. It doesn't always work, but enough to keep the already thin wizard alive.

When he sees Oleg's in the distance it's all he can do to start his horse in a gallop. Once through the gates, he looks for the priest, Johd. Finding him he blurts out, "Your good friend Kryolani has fallen ill and we cannot rouse him. You must help him."

He looks expectantly to the priest. It's within your power Erastil, bring Kryolani back to us...

Jhod Kavken nods calmly in response to Serolt's and Roksana's hasted concerns. "Please lay him down on one of the beds in the guesthouse so that I can examine his conditions. How many days has he spent in this state? How did he come to lose all of his strenght this way?"

---

As you place Kryolani on one of the bed of the guesthouse as requested, Jhod studies the sorcerer's condition for a while. "Hmm, I see. Red ache. A bad disease indeed. And not an easy one to cure, either. I'm not surprised he needs Erastil's aid. I'll try and assist him as best as I can, but...You know, I usually do this for remuneration. I'm terribly sorry to ask you to actually pay me for this, but it's my work...You know, even traveling priests need to eat. Are you willing to pay the price?"

"Why yes, of course we'll pay if that's what's required. He's been sick many days, and we fear for his life. Do not delay - lay your healing hands upon him!" Serolt is somewhat surprised by the priest, but it doesn't bother him, Everyone needs to eat.

"We don't need him the picture of health mind you, but he's entirely too close to deaths door as it is. Do, er, something!"

Not sure how to say it exactly, but Serolt doesn't expect the priest to cast all the lesser restorations needed to bring him back to full. Just need a cure disease or some such and maybe one or two lessor restorations to bring him to consciousness. We can wait out the rest...

Father Jhod smiles at Jacobus. "To standard price. I trust that you know healers' tariff well enough, Mr. Baradin. I'm going to start with a remove disease spell. Success is not guaranteed, but I'll try my best. Then maybe a few lesser restoration spells will do, at least to make your friend come to his senses again", Father Jhod explains with a very professional tone. "I must ask you to leave this room for a few minutes, dear friends. I need to concentrate on my spell in order for it to work as intended."

I'm just doing what everyone else does. But since you seem so eager to have your friend back, I'll go ahead and try to heal him" replies Father Kavken as he enter the guesthouse where Kryolani is lying. His expression was offended.

A few minutes pass. Then, Father Kavken exits the guesthouse. His face is somber and he shakes his head as he speaks. "I'm sorry. The healing process didn't go well enough. Serolt fusses for a while, making sure Kryolani eats something and cleaning up after all the stew that dribbles on his chin. He also makes sure Father Kavken helps the body heal naturally as well as magically... just in case.

Eventually he departs and gathers his things, joining the others. He's particularly happy to unload Tuskgutters head... it was starting to stink fiercely. He offers it to Vekkel, "He'll take no on else now. He's done and rotting in the forest." he grins hoping the man has found some closure.

Svetalana smiles brightly at Roksana when the half-orc girl gives her the wedding ring, helped by Serolt: "Erastil be blessed, yes! Thank you so much guys! Oleg! Did you see? They found it!" Oleg laughs and comes closer. "Well, maybe someone told them to look for it..." he adds mischievously before hugging her wife. "I hope you're happier now. I hated myself for letting them take it from you". Svetlana almost breaks into tears, hugs Oleg tightly and thanks you again.

A few minutes later, Oleg gathers you in the stalls as he brushes his horse. "Hey guys" he starts, "You've find Svetlana ring, and I'm so grateful! Thank you. No one else would have cared about it. Out of curiosity, where did you find it? Anyway, you've earned a reward fit for a king. One thousand golden crowns in credit to spend here at the Trading Post. Yeah, I know, I'm too generous, but I'm also a happy man now, so I'm willing to reward you as appropriate!"

---

In the meantime, Jacobus writes a letter to the Swordlords in which he details their exploits. Fabian, I would love if you could actually write it in your next post.

---

After a few hours, when you've taken your time to eat and rest a bit, Father Kavken comes to you again. "My friend he starts with his solemn and deep voice, "Roksana here has told me you found the lost temple to Erastil! I...I'm sincerely surprise to see that my dream was true...Well, I would like to know where it is. Vekkel Benzen widens his eyes as soon as he sees Tuskgutter's head. "Wow! Amazing! I knew you would have killed it! You're great guys! It's so good to see the younger generation doing so well! Well, this big bastard claimed my leg, and now I cannot shoot a bow anymore...So, wait only a few minutes please" he says enthusiastically before disappearing in the stalls. When he comes back, a few minutes later, he holds a nicely crafted longbow and a partially filled quiver in his hands. "Here. These are for you. Maybe you're too strong to use this bow, and you prefer a composite version, but this weapon was crefted by a skilled artisan back when I was in Restov...He was an half-elf, I wonder what was his name...Thil...No, maybe...Well, I suppose it doesn't matter. Forgive an old hunter with a defective memory. By the way, what I was trying to say is that you could sell this bow if you're too strong and you rather have a more powerful version. It should fetch a good price."

The man pauses for a bit, studying Tuskgutter's rotting head. "You got what you deserved, a~@!#~~!" he whispers to the boar's skull in a confidential tone. "He-hem, yes. Yes. These arrows. Well, guys, these arrows are magical. Every hunter has his tricks after all" he blinks, "The wizard who once crafted them for me called them animal bane arrows or something. Anyway, they're particularly good against animals...quite obvious, actually. Well, I hope these satisfy you!"

Jacobus nods and points out in the map where they had found the temple and what they had seen.

He then adds, "While we appreciate the offer of free service, please offer it up in good faith."

Realizing how that did not come out quite right, he quickly states, "What I mean to say is that it is not necessary. I totally understand the concept of paying for a job well done. That being said, if you truly believe that our services were in line with the reward then thank you. We hope to never need your services but it's a comfort to know that they are available."

"Do you have any plans for the temple? Will you go visit?"

Yes, I’ll go and visit it. I’ll probably stay there for a couple of months. Vekkel too has expressed his interest in joining me” answers Father Jhod. “And yes, Mr. Varadin, rest assured that you earned your reward fully.

---

You spend the rest of the day eating, chatting and resting at the Trading Post, for you’ve been traveling for a very long time and your body longs for rest and nourishment―and Svetlana’s dishes are no match for the trail ration you’ve been used to eat for the last few weeks in the wildlands.

---

The following day, Father Kavken gathers you as you’re eating your breakfast. “I’ve prepared my spell in order to heal Kryolani. I hope they’ll be enough. I’ll do the best I can dear friends” says the Erastilian priest a confident smile and a rich voice.

When he finishes eating his breakfast, Father Kavken enters the Guesthouse and tries to heal Kryolani. The first attempt fails again though. “Nothing. Again.” He explains as he comes out of the guesthouse with a deluded expression written all over his face. “But not all hopes are lost. I can try again another time today. I would like to meet success this time, though, so I’m here to ask you if you would like to pay for a dose of antiplague. I can use it as an alchemical power component in order to enhance my curing spell and increase my chances of success. I think Oleg got one of them in stock. You think you can afford that?

After a short discussion, the party agrees on buying the antiplague. Jhod Kavken quickly uses it to enhance his remove disease spell...and finally Kryolani comes back to his senses.

"Sssh, everything is fine, relax. You're alright my friend. You're at Oleg's. Your friends are out here, just waiting to hear the good news. You must still feel weak, I know, but I've consumed all my magic resources to bring you back to your senses. I suggest you to stay in bed today, I'll provide you more magical healing tomorrow. I'm glad you're back, Mister Surtova."

---

Jhod Kavken quickly exits the guesthouse and turns to you: "I bring good news. You're friend is conscious again. He's still tired and weak, but he's been cured. I'll provide more magical healing to him tomorrow. Now excuse me, but I'm very tired and need a bit of rest", says the priest with a genuine smile.

Kryolani attempts to swallow, but it feels like he spent the last week drinking salt and sand. His vision blurs when he tries to focus on anything at all, but that doesn't stop him from dragging himself into a sitting position in his sick bed. His throat is dry and raw, and when he tries it out, he can barely manage more than a dry whisper. His stomach aches like a giant fist is crushing it.

But he is awake.

He leans his back against the wall to rest. He'll stay in bed, sure. But for now at least he can do so while sitting up.

He leaves and spends a little time with Oleg. ”My friend, there is much we need to buy. I wonder, can you help us?” He goes over the list with Oleg, both sale and purchase. Jacobus stepped out of the room, looking quite pleased with himself.

He asked Serolt and Rok to follow him to where Kryo was recovering. Once inside, he stated, "I wrote the Swordlords a letter. Let me read to you all so you can let me know if I need to add anything else."

letter:

Moonday, Gozran the 17th, 4609 AR

Esteemed Swordlords of Aldori:

I hope this letter finds you all well in health and better in spirits.

I write you today, exactly 50 days after we set out in your mission, to let you know that things are going very well. We have explored over 70% of the area assigned to us, and we plan to leave for our last excursion in a couple of days. We have defended your honor well and accounted ourselves in the field of battle without any casualties. The only problem has been that Kryolani Surtova has fallen ill but is currently recovering with the aid of local priest of Erastil. A full recovery is expected shortly. Abadar be praised.

There will be time later when we meet face to face to fill you in on the details of our exploration but rest assured that we are preparing a very detailed map of our findings. Some of the highlights of our exploration so far are the discovery of a lost temple to Erastil, the slaying of a dangerous dire boar, the extermination of a colony of evil mites (and giant blood-sucking tick), and the truce we were able to obtain from the local band of kobolds, the Sootscales. I understand there was a reward for making such a truce so please forward the money to us at your earliest convenience. Abadar be praised.

The other big issue in the area has been the bandits, many of whom have already been dealt with. We were able to thwart an attack at Oleg’s Trading Post early in our stay and chase those bandits back to their camp. They will no longer be bothering anyone but we have heard rumors of a certain bandit chief that goes by the name of the Stag Lord, which we have yet to encounter. Speaking of Oleg, he and his wife have been very accommodating, and we are able to trade the loot we find and obtain new supplies at the post. I commend you on your selection of Oleg’s for a base camp for our exploration.

I must also commend you on your choice of explorers. Mr. Surtova, Serolt the Shoanti, and Rok the former mercenary have all gone above and beyond what was expected of them to make this a very successful journey. They have bled with me and I now consider them good friends. This could not have been done without them. If you happen to see my father, please tell him I am doing well and expect to be home within the month.

I hope our progress pleases you and do not hesitate to contact us should you have further instructions.

Sincerely,

Jacobus Varadin

He then asked expectantly, "Well, what do you all think? Too much? Too little?"

Kryolani staggers, slowly, out of the darkened hut where his healing had, at last, taken place. He is using a rough-trimmed branch to steady himself, he has lost perhaps a dozen pounds that he did not have to spare, and his limbs look to be weak as those of a kitten, but there is a fire in his eyes, and a fierce grin between his sunken cheeks.

"Well. That was quite unpleasant, and my trousers fit loosely enough that I had to poke another notch in my belt, but I'm tired of beds. Thanks for dragging me back here and getting me healed up. I'm sure that couldn't have been pleasant."

He shuffles over to a bench by the tables and sits, leaning heavily on his makeshift cane. "So, what's the plan? I miss anything important?"

Time passes by at Oleg as you wait for Kryolani to get better. The Brevic nobleman only need another day to fully recover though, because thanks to his own natural healing and Jhod Kavken magics, he's back at his full strenght the next day.

---

During the time spent waiting for Kryolani to get better, you've had the chance to notice that Oleg's bulletin board has got two new tasks for any brave adventurer willing to undertake them.

WANTED: TATZWYRMS (see handout #7)

Task: The way everyone talks about tatzlwyrms, one might think they’re swarming throughout the Stolen Lands. This isn’t the case; they’re actually quite rare. A tatzlwyrm head would be a great conversation piece at Oleg’s. He has promised a reward for anyone who can deliver one.
Completion: Slay a tatzlwyrm and deliver its head.
Reward: Oleg will pay 600 gp for a relatively undamaged tatzlwyrm head.

WANTED: THE STAG LORD

Source: Official charter from Restov at Oleg's Trading Post.
Task: The Stag Lord is wanted "dead or alive" from Restov government.
Completion: Word of the Stag Lord’s defeat must be sent to Restov—if his body is not available as proof, an agent of the swordlords shall arrive in the area shortly to confirm the banditry has been addressed.
Reward: 5,000 gp.

Okay guys, I'm beginning to get better so I think we can resume our normal posting rate gradually. First off, I would like you to tell me if you're buying anything from Oleg (you can use the Discussion Thread to address this matter if you prefer). Then, I would like to know your journey progression. You either need to plan a shorter traveler or to declare that you're going slower in order to stick to your original plan. I'm also willing to let you roleplay with any NPCs at Oleg's Trading Post should you wish so.

Serolt sits down with Oleg, ”My dear sir, we need another of those wonderful healing wands you can get for us, so please place the order. Also, we’ll take all the rations you have. Is it OK if we leave a few crates behind in our rooms? I hope that won’t be too troubling.” he grins.

He spends some time talking about future purchases, magical and mundane, but alas his pocket book is too thin for anything exciting just yet.

Serolt enjoys the days at Oleg's but as Kryolani and Rok seem well, he's eager to get back out.

"OK, with only a weeks food, and a few days travel to get to the hinterlands, we're only going to be able to check two or there hexes per trip. Hopefully they'll be adventurous!" he looks forward to the unknown...

Roksana spends what time they have at the trading post either with Lana or riding Kasper around the perimeter and learning grooming tips from Oleg. She finds that brushing the horse really helps calm her and keep her in good spirits. She considers training with Garess again, but having just regained her strength, she doesn't want to push herself too hard.

"Johd and Vekkel said they'd be spending a few months at the temple. If they're leaving soon maybe we can use the temple as a base camp. Instead of falling back to Oleg's every time." The half-orc shrugs at her own suggestion. "If not, then at least we'll get really familiar with the terrain."

She waits to hear everyone's opinion on the matter, hoping someone else will offer to speak to the father given her attitude the last time she saw him.

Jhod overhears Roksana's suggestion about using the Temple of the Elk as a base camp every now and then and kindly chimes in. "Well, I don't know the current conditions of the site, and I'm sure we will need to work hard in order to turn it into a comfortable place, but I think Miss Roksana's idea is very good. I would love to assist you in any way I can, so you'd be most welcome whenever you should need it. If you accompany us there, we could also bring a cart along so that we can store some of your trail rations in the temple!"

He turns to Serolt, "Two or three hexes per trip will make this very inefficient. I just wrote back to the Swordlords that we would be finished with explorations within one month.

He added, "We have a tent. How about if we camp out and hunt and forage for a day or two to replenish our rations and then continue on. I mean we resupply at Oleg's but there isn't anything vital that we are waiting for, right?"

Giuseppe, thanks for the gesture of returning the endure elements wand but I think we should keep it. It makes sense that we won't use it but that's because of spring but there will be other winters, right? We can afford to keep it and buy the cure light wounds wand.
