The only ones in need of healing seem to be the lizardfolk, as they get bruised and battered (and fluffy bites an unconscious one just for spite).

There is no threat of any of these guys getting back up, but you can prevent them from dying if you choose.

I don't really know if I am to openly share this with you, but I don't honestly see why, or how, you would come up with it otherwise, so here it is...
Once the PCs defeat the serpentfolk and their guard animals, they may opt to make useful notes on the beasts’ anatomy. The group can attempt one Easy (DC 14) skill check using one of the following skills: Craft (painting), Handle Animal, Heal, Knowledge (nature), Profession (clerk, farmer, scribe, shepherd, or stable master), or Survival. If they succeed, they earn 1 Victory Point. If they fail, their illustrations and notes are too flawed to assist the Society. So, I believe you should decide which approach to take, and who is making the attempt.

Well, we're supposed to be taking detailed notes of what we come across here. So it seems logical recording the critters we come across would be part of that. Drawing a picture seems right!

Jayori will stabilize any that yet live, taking a moment to examine their armor and weaponry and other possessions.

I keep fearing some weird Grandfather Paradox time travel scenario! So the fewer dead things the better!
I hate temporal plotlines!

"Shane said to record everything." He says, frowning at the weapon. "But I see little difference."

He points down the natural cavern to the east. "They came from that way, perhaps we should backtrace their movements."

I say forward down the cavern!

Clouds of steam rise from this balmy chamber’s countless pools. Small, rocky islands abound, separated by cloudy, mineral-laden waters. Each island supports a stone plinth carved with minute glyphs and elaborate pictograms. Sliding across the floors and floating in the pools, thousands of snakes of various species and sizes slither throughout the chamber and bask in its tropical heat.

So, there really is no map for this, so we will pretend this scene as described is set in the caverns you have discovered. Feel free to ask some questions here before you start.

Pau stops cold. "Why does it always have to be snakes?". He watches what sort of reaction Radagst receives before moving into the midst of the serpents

Knowledge | GSC | Mummy's Mask | WftC | RotR$ | Carrion Crown

Let's start with Lantorth. Decoding the Plinths: Thanks to the chamber’s steamy haze, a PC must be within 5 feet of a plinth to make out the symbols upon it. Once one or more PCs are adjacent to a plinth, they must succeed at three Average skill checks (DC 17) from the following list in order to decipher and record its inscriptions: Appraise, Knowledge (history, nature, or religion), Linguistics, or Perception. A character can attempt a given skill check only once per plinth, but he can still use a different skill on the plinth. If a PC can read Draconic, the skill checks are instead Easy (DC 14).

Now, to get to each Plinth...Radagast's approach is certainly one way to go - just get bit. Alternatively, a PC can leap from one island to another with a Hard (DC 20) Acrobatics check. A PC can instead move through the water slowly with an Average (DC 17) Handle Animal, Stealth, or wild empathy check. If a PC fails one of these checks, snakes bite him.

Radagast walks through the snakes, causing a disturbance and a few bite him. The poison course through his veins, causing 1 pt of Constitution damage this round. (Make another DC 17 Fort save each round until you make one, maximum of 4 rounds total.)

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Elf Druid 7 (HP 59/59) (AC 26/11/25) (CMD 20) (Fort +6, Ref +3, Will +8) (Init +3) (Perception +18)

Ouch. A DC 17 Fort save is nasty, especially when it targets Con!

Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17.

Smarting slightly from the bite he took, Radagast investigates the closest pillar.

Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25.

He then moves on to the next pillar, attempting to be a snake whisperer...

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21.

...and, incredibly, manages to avoid being bitten this time around.

At pillar #2, he again makes notes...

Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25.

...and then moves on to #3.

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6.

Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21.

This time, a rather ornery pit viper takes umbrage at his passage, but fortunately, he manages to resist the effects of its venom.

At pillar #3, he again makes notes...

Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17.

...just barely managing to pull something coherent from it.

He then moves on to pillar #4...

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19.

...successfully running the viper gauntlet...

Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34.

...and once again managing to take down some efficient notes.

With a nod of satisfaction, he moves on to the last pillar...

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5.

Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15.
Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26.

...but in the process has another snake latch onto his ankle.

Gently shooing it away results in the venom coursing through his veins (briefly) before his immune system manages to deal with it.

Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19.

At the final pillar, he makes a respectable showing...

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22.

...before wading back to the others without any further mishap.

"No trouble at all!"

He then pulls out a wand, and uses it on himself.

Wand of Lesser Restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 2.

Grinning, he quips:

"Shall we move on?"

Given the potential for significant Con damage, I thought it best if one one person took the risk.

That was impressively done! However... one perspective is rarely enough to understand an ancient culture. To succeed, each plinth needs 3 successful checks. As of now, each of the 5 has one success. You don't necessarily need all 5 to have 3 successes each, but you will need a minimum of 3 of them to claim victory in this challenge. Who is ready to follow Radagast's brave lead?

We can make appraise checks untrained, right? And to be clear, we can make multiple skill checks per pillar, so long as it is using different skills? Otherwise, this post would need serious retcon. :)

Realising that Radagast did not manage to capture all the information on the plinths, Garn commands Snowball to stay on the shore and makes his way amongst the snakes.

Pillar 1
handle animal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Pillar 2
handle animal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
On the way to the second, one of the snakes rears up and strikes him, and poison courses into Garn's body and grips his heart. He pushes through though, and notes what he could from this pillar. He pulls out a scroll of lesser restoration and uses it to restore his health before continuing.

lesser restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 1
lesser restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 4

2 more successes for pillar 2

Pillar 3

Near the 3rd pillar, he is struck again by a snake and again poison courses through him. He took note of what he could from this pillar and pushes on. 1 Con dmg. 1 more success for pillar 3

Pillar 4
handle animal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
On the way to the 4th pillar, yet another snake strikes and Garn is feeling quite weakened. He takes note of what he understands from this one. Again, he casts from his scroll to restore himself.

lesser restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 4

2 more successes for pillar 4

Pillar 5
handle animal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
appraise, untrained: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Again, on the way of the 5th, Garn is struck again by snakes but this time manages to resist the poison. He stumbles on, taking notes of the last pillar. 1 more success for pillar 5

When he returns to shore, Garn appears worse for the wear after the ordeal as compared to Radagast.

By my count, pillars 1, 2 and 4 should have 3 successes each in total?

Might as well wait until you use it... and here is an opportunity!

You find a set of stairs leading up, and start climbing. Eventually, you make your way into a side stairwell that leads up to a chamber. Beyond the chamber are a few hallways.

Claustrophobic cells line the walls here, many crowded with three or four miserable-looking humans. The halls converge on a hewn-stone chamber lit with braziers and choked with herb-scented smoke.

Three serpentfolk looking mean and nasty see you and turn towards you.

Everyone needs to make a DC 13 Fort save or be sickened from the horrible stench exuded by these creatures. (Radagast has saved, Fluffy failed).

Radagast charges forward, causing a nasty wound on the first troglodyte he comes to.

Is Garn still with us?

Yes, sorry work emergency. Ok now.

Garn fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Snowball fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Garn almost gags at the foul stench of the creatures, but manages to ignore the effects as he pushes his way past the two front troglodytes, trusting his armor to fend off their attacks so as to leave the way open for his cat. He swings his scimitar at the (red) troglodyte that Radagast was attacking.

Garn provokes AOO from red and blue. He's not going to bother with acrobatics, not being particularly dextrous.

He commands Snowball to similarly attack the same troglodyte. Snowball shakes its head as if to ward off the awful stench as it leaps across the room, slashing the troglodyte with both its claws as it reaches it and rounds off with a bite.

No AoOs because they are still flatfooted!

Snowball manages to tear troglodyte flesh with his teeth, even though the claws were turned away.

Seeing the tactics Garn is employing, the troglodytes adopt a similar stance. Green steps out from the shadows for a clean attack, flanking Garn.

Club Attack, flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 = 14

Blue attacks the cat, having no such advantage.

Club Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Red turns and also attacks Garn.

Fluffy moved last round, so full attack here is fine. Snowball I am not sure about - I assumed he has pounce but if not, then last round should have been a single attack.

I am on my phone currently, but I think red does not yet go down if that influences anyone's action.

Silver Crusade

LG Human Paladin 4 / Bard 1 / Dragon Disciple 4 *Core*

Wouldn't have been able to pounce anyway... too many bodies in the way to charge.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Jayori moves closer, but is quickly overwhelmed by the horrible stench.

Unable to reach the melee to help out, he takes a moment to try to get past the sudden sickened feeling.

Can't do much, move up some, and try to breath through his mouth and not retch.
