The discussion thread is open!
Hi all,
First up, please make sure that your Pathfinder number-character number is easy to find on your character sheet!
Second, especially if you are new, please take a look at the "Campaign Info" tab where I am trying to develop a good guide to starting PbP PFS play and to how I run games. It's a work in progress, and I'm still learning.
Then, one of my GM duties:
Your Duties as Game Master:
As a Pathfinder Society Organized Play Game Master running a session at a convention or an in-store event, you have the following duties.
• Introduce yourself.
• Encourage your players to introduce themselves (and
their characters).
But, since this is online, just share what you want, if you want. You can introduce your character best, I think, on the gameplay thread, or add some OOC info about them here.
I'm Matt, a 43-year-old father of a two-year-old boy, staying at home while my wife goes through an accelerated nursing school program. As I said on the Campaign Info page, I am relatively new to PbP, PFS, Pathfinder, and GMing, though I have now finished as an online player in five games and as a GM in four. I am hoping online gaming will help keep me sane, especially now that I had to give up my in-person game for time reasons.

Hello!
I am excited to once again be invited to one of Matt's games.
I hope to have a fun time as the previous 2 campaigns.
I work days (8am-5pm eastern US) and I am also a full-time college student, but I post everyday.

Hi all,
There is a "Secondary Success Conditions" document we were sent a link to and I've copied the introduction here so that you will know how things have changed with faction missions and getting that second prestige point.
At the beginning of Season 5 of the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign, the means by which a PC earns Prestige Points and Fame changed. Before, a PC earned Prestige Points by completing faction missions (short missions assigned by the respective head of the faction) and by completing the scenario’s main mission. With few exceptions, these faction missions are no longer tied to earning Prestige Points, but the players may opt to receive and perform these missions for Season 0–4 scenarios for no special benefit. In those few cases where the scenario still uses the faction missions, treat members of the Grand Lodge faction as though they were members of the Osirion faction, treat members of the Sczarni faction as though they were members of the Taldor faction, and treat members of the Silver Crusade faction as though they were members of the Andoran faction.
In Season 5, a scenario’s individual faction missions have been replaced by a secondary success condition, which typically ties into exceeding the goal established in the mission briefing, finding an additional boon, securing a longterm ally, not damaging the reputation of the Pathfinder Society, or generally excelling at the tasks set before them.
I think it is best to still provide the faction missions for role playing purposes and for PFS historical flavor, but I was never happy with the faction missions, which often seemed to require a single pass-fail d20 roll on a skill the character may not have, rather than good and creative gaming.

Hi Paladin of Baha-who?
I'm completely OK with a pregen or a new character. Whichever you prefer.
(I got into the same position with one of my characters as the posting rate on a game slowed down unexpectedly, but I had enough time to make another character. Even so, it takes me a long time to make new characters, and playing a pregen would seem a good way to try out a different class and build without all of the investment. Besides, it is probably the only way in the next several years, going at the rate I am, that I am going to play a higher tier scenario!)
~~ Matt
| Paladin of Baha-who? |
What tier do we expect to play at? If it's level 1-2, I can't play a pregen and apply it to an existing character. If it's 4-5, I could play a level 4 pregen.
Edit: I guess given that Wuliem is level 1, it would have to be 1-2.
I guess I might as well create a new character. Herolab lets me do so very quickly.
Herman Halfshanks
|
Hello all, Herman Halfshanks here. Level 2 (thanks Matt!) halfling bard - detective archetype.
Really good at Diplomacy, sense motive, etc not so good at combat stuff. My bardic performance is geared toward aiding with Perception, disable device etc, not combat with this archetype.
About the player: I am a 42 year old father of 2 girls. I do travel some for my work, so those days may be harder to get frequent postings in. Been a longtime player, and run a few PbP games on this site, but have only limited PFS experience in person. I am running a Silent Tide game for PBP GAmeday as well.
I am US central time and post daily, sometimes more. Look forward to exploring Mwangi with you all.
| Paladin of Baha-who? |
Well, I'm buying additional data packs slowly, one or two per month. They become useful pretty quickly, and the nice thing is you can add manual adjustments for a lot of things yourself, e.g. if you take a trait that gives you perception as a class skill, but that trait isn't in the data packs you've chosen, you can just add an adjustment that gives you perception as a class skill and there you go.

Looking forward to gaming with everyone.
Matt is anyone else here from our previous campaigns?
I don't recognize anyone yet...Johann 'ole buddy?
Are you playing this one?
Power to the Alchemists!
| Jules-Stonecutter |
Hi, I amJules Stonecutter resident rogue.Level 1. Just to let you know this is my first PBP
About player. I am a mother of two and work mostly on computer stuff.
Wuliem if you could explain how you got the "Male 1/2 orc" stuff at the top I would appreciate it so I could add it to mine.
| GM FurtiveZoog |
Hi Jules, I also have information on how to do it on the Campaign tab. I do it by putting all the information in a spoiler right after the Class and level information on the Class/Level line.
I use this format:
Cleric 1 [spoiler =Stats]HP 11/11, NL 0 | AC 18, T 13, FF 16 | CMB +0, CMD 12 | F +4, R +2, W +4 | Init +2, Dex 14 | Perc +4, SM +2, LL vis. | Shillelagh +2/1d4+1/20/x2; Sling +3/1d3+1/20/x2[/ spoiler]
which, when you remove the spaces in the spoiler tags, becomes:
Cleric 1

Hi Jules!
Welcome to PbP. This is a great format,
especially if you are still learning the game
as it gives you plenty of time to read/research rules as you go.
Matt has put the formatting information on his campaign page,
although I must admit I have kind of improvised
(but he hasn't yelled at me yet...lol!).
I have been gaming since I was 9,
but I started PF just over 2 years ago now at my home group.
This will be my 5th PFS PbP campaign--
3rd with Matt as GM (poor him) and I am really enjoying it!
Happy to help if you have any questions!

I love your Campaign page it was very helpful.
I have now switched my character to the Society section so I needed to add a 1 at the end. :)
Thanks for the help Wuliem.

Ok, Matt?
Wuliem wants to craft some alchemical items.
May he take a 10 on any DC less than 20? He has a craft alchemy +9.
I will roll for the DCs 20+...
alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 = alchemist's fire DC 20 cost 6.6 gp
alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 = alchemical glue DC 20 cost 6.6 gp
alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 = alchemical solvent DC 20 cost 6.6 gp
alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 = vermin repellent DC 20 cost 3.3 gp
alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 = scent cloak DC 20 cost 6.6 gp
alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 = weapon blanch silver DC 20 cost 3.3 gp
alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 = smelling salts DC 20 cost 8.3 gp
He will also craft: acid, alchemical cement, dye marker, alchemical grease. All DCs 15.
He may need more practice!
Herman Halfshanks

Hey GM Zoog, Herman will be upgrding to MW longsword (315gp) and selling his old plain longsword (7.5 gp).

Ok I have updated my character by my count
16 Dex = 10 (+ 2 for Human)
14 Str = 5
14 IQ = 5
and I added knowledge Local
Please let me know if I have missed anything else.
Ok Ok I have played this game for over 30 years and forgot my +2 for human. I admit it. I still have to adjust AC but I will do that when I get back home

Looks a lot better Jules...lol!
Ok, Matt. He is a sucker for punishment, so he will craft away...
craft alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 =alchemist's fire DC 20 cost 6.6 gp
craft alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19= alchemical glue DC 20 cost 6.6 gp
craft alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29= alchemical solvent DC 20 cost 6.6 gp
craft alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 = vermin repellent DC 20 cost 3.3 gp
craft alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29= scent cloak DC 20 cost 6.6 gp
craft alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15= weapon blanch silver DC 20 cost 3.3 gp

total gp spent =82.6 (including first try!)
Hey! He is getting better at this!
Storn
|
Storn checking in, cranky cleric of Gorum who specializes in smashing things in the face and colourful threats of disembowelment. I'll figure out his shopping list before Mwangi starts up.
Storn
|
I'll keep it simple and parrot what Herman has done. So Storn will sell his current greatsword for 25 gold, and buy a masterwork greatsword for 350 gold. So 325 gold down from 867.35 - 542 gold, 3 silver, 5 copper left.
Jani Lee Two-spirit
|
This will be my Tiefling Witch. Due to the chaotic and protean nature of abyssal heritage, they have no fixed sense of personal gender, so they prefer the pronoun 'they' instead of 'he' or 'she' and uses 'we' to refer to theirself because they believe they are two souls in one body, as their mother was pregnant with twins, one of whom died in utero. However, if someone refers to them as 'he' or 'she' they won't get upset.
| GM FurtiveZoog |
:-) That's cool, Jani. Sound like a great character idea. One of mine, Norine, had been (at least in her own mind) reincarnated so many times that she loses track of details like her current gender, race, the spelling of her name, etc... But, she's (now) a cleric of Desna, a goddess of dreams and imagination, so it could be just an vivid imagination or delusion.
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
In between classes right now,
so i will try to update Wuliem's items before Sat.
I never played a Witch yet...
i am looking forward to see it plays Jani.
Matt, Norine seems to be a confused girl...lol!
Is Naurin another one of her.....personalities?
| GM FurtiveZoog |
Possibly. It is true that you never see both of them in the same place...
It all started as a joke with various permutations (Norine Pepfarin Epfafeen, Naurin Ferrick Phren, Knorrin Eppa the Friend) on a way-inside-joke name, with similar permutations of alignment and personality, etc.
I imagine Walter and Wuliem are somewhat similar, similar in some ways but also opposites in some aspects of their personality.
Wuliem BrokenCrown
|
I made Walter first, then I wanted to try an Alchemist.
I absolutely love the versatility of the 1/2 Orc in PF.
My new favorite race.
My next character may be a Bard, although I am still deciding on race.
| GM FurtiveZoog |
Yeah, things are well...ish. My wife was feeling really overwhelmed last night about her first week of an accelerated nursing program (in school all day and then a bit more than too much reading to do each night), so I decided I had better cut back, and hopefully while others could still fill my place.
Since there are generally more players looking for games than there are GMs, it made sense to cut back on the games and keep the scenario going. Unfortunately, I was looking forward to the games. *sigh* Well, maybe later.
Jules Stonecutter

Sorry grab the wrong name but I used the correct information from Jules
| GM FurtiveZoog |
So here is something interesting:
Price 2 cp; Weight 1 lb.
A whetstone allows you to sharpen a blade by sliding it against the stone at a precise angle. Honing a blade with a whetstone requires about 15 minutes of work and grants the weapon a +1 bonus on your damage roll the first time you hit with it. This only works on nonmagical blades.
I also bought them for my characters because, well, just because. It is nice to know they actually do something. Time to start honing my blades. (None of my characters has a magical blade yet...)
