Oh, if you have the material components available but just need me to "pay them back", then Atum will definitely take a stoneskin. I didn't realize you had enough for everyone, because Atum forgot to buy a scroll or his own components before this adventure. But it's on his shopping list for the end of this one!
So 13 and then 12 damage on Atum, stoneskin depending.
Atum considers reaching for his bow but then decides that it would be far more fun to simply grow to large enough to hit the monkeymen where they are.
Second ka stone enlargement for today. Being about 13 feet tall and having a large reach weapon should allow me to reach them I hope.

Karu the Bold Strider
|
The creatures swing down, their spears ready to spear Karu, but only the third attacker manages to bypass the defenses of the stout warrior, aided by his trusty compatriot of Irori.
As they retreat back up into the vines, Karu rolls his eyes. "You want me to come up there?" he asks as Kynrac blesses him twice with the power of Irori.
"Sigh... I guess I can handle this." he says, ready to launch upwards as a gleaming blade cuts down all of the vines, sending the apemen to their death.
"Hmm... Let's not wait for these rare blessings to fade!" he says as he looks at the two passageways.
1L/2R: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Leaving his fate to luck, the strongman moves towards the left path, down into the unknown.
| DM Feral |
This small chamber contains mounds of filthy rags, gnawed bones, and a few malformed, undernourished, apelike creatures. The smell of excrement is overpowering.
The strange monkey children fill the floor and walls of this chamber, resting on every ledge and in every nook they can find. They make no move to attack and seem to pose no threat to the party aside from their wailing and screeching.
Karu the Bold Strider
|
Karu's nose wrinkles as he decides that this room's inhabitants will be dealt with in a decade or so. "Not this way." he relays to his team.
"Ape children..." he says to Atum as an explanation as he moves past him towards the right tunnel, ignoring the loud wailing of the apekin.
Kynrac
|
Sure, I'll pay for your components this time, but make sure to restock for part III, please.
"This is disgusting. We shouldn't be surprised to see these apemen turned to evil if they live in such poor conditions. When this is over, we will do something about it." says Kynrac as he follows Karu.

"I'll leave it to you," Atum bellows. "I'm not great with kids."
At the passage, Big Atum scoffs. "It will take more than blades to stop me! Right behind me, Karu? Let's go!" Atum barrels through the blades, impervious to pain.

The blade barrier was dispelled so Atum doesn't need to worry about pain.
Dispel: 1d20 ⇒ 18
When Atum boldly moves past where the wall of flying blades was moments ago, he steps on an invisible rune. He feels a shock of magic go through his form and one of Kynrac's blessings fades away.
Atum randomly pick one of the buffs Kynrac put on you. It's dispelled.
The most noticeable and harrowing feature of this room is the 60-foot-tall statue of Angazhan carved into the west wall. At its feet stands a candle-laden altar, upon which a female human lies bound. Two giant murals flank the statue, painted with mud, blood, and more unmentionable substances. Like much of the rest of the cave, vines cover the ceiling, though these vines hang fifty feet or more above the ground.
Standing over the prone bound woman is a huge heavily armored ape wielding a cruelly barbed spear. The beast's spear and fists glow with unholy power and its form blurs slightly when it moves. Seeing Atum, he beats his broad chest in challenge.
Strangely, Atum finds that he can't take another step forward. No matter how hard he pushes he can't advance.
Assuming you can hit these DCs, roll three separate perception checks.
Markavious, Faldoc, and Karu are up. It sounds like Atum has a standard/move still.

Kynrac

Karu, don't forget you have a Fly spell on (as well as Shield of Faith +4).
Atum, do you have a way to hit further than 10 ft away? Antilife shell doesn't have a large radius, and the weapons can go through it (but not living matter). Also, it's centered on him, so a dim door won't cut it.
As for the dispel magic on Atum, I don't think he had any buffs from me. He's too far for the Magic Circle, BoF has run out, and he declined the Stoneskin, communal.
Can't make 43, so I won't roll the first one.

Hmmm...Looks like a barrier preventing those that are alive from passing is up, this is usually a small area, you should be able to get around it.
If the simple way does not work, I can either passwall or t-port. Passwall is a 5' x 8' opening(Atum would be squeezing yes?) and I believe Atum counts as 2 medium creatures for a t-port so It would be 2 more Volunteers

Atum has a bow (which doesn't help much with the wind wall) and in his enlarged state I believe his polearm's reach is 15'. Not sure of the radius of the antilife shell though.
| DM Feral |
Oh, I totally misread anti-life shell. It's much smaller than I thought.
Atum's reach while enlarged with a reach weapon is 20 feet. If Atum doesn't have any buffs on him the dispel does nothing to him.
Giving it one more shove, Atum moves past the magical barrier (because it wasn't there to begin with).

Atum moves up as far as the magical barrier will allow him. I moved him up on the map where I think it ends. That will also use up the rest of Atum's movement.
@GM: where are you getting 20' for the Large reach weapon though? I can't find that anywhere and was always told that it is just 15'.
Karu the Bold Strider

Karu utilizes the boons of Kynrac as he blasts into the room. "This supposed shield is no match for pure boldness!" the Bold Strider bellows as he passes the barrier without resistance.
He is an outsider, so he is not held at bay by the spell.

Negative Energy (this cannot drop you below 1 HP, will 21 for half): 120 = 120
Also make a DC 19 fortitude save or be paralyzed indefinitely.
As Karu moves in to strike, the giant ape swipes with one huge glowing paw sending a shock of deadly negative energy through the Bold Strider. He strikes back but fails to overcome the beast's thick armor.
While he reels from the blow, Karu has a moment to reflect on his opponent's abilities. Judging by the aura of dread coming off the beast (which Karu easily ignores) and its deadly corrupting touch, he believes this bestial brute is a lich!
Feel free to ask a couple questions.
Before Karu can recover the beast sweeps with its fearsome spear and then reaches out with its glowing paw a second time.

As it lands those nearby become aware of a few things.
1) Markavious is no longer invisible.
2) The area is suddenly impossibly quiet.
3) This ape is very pregnant.

80 Damage from AoO.
Karu gets tripped by the creature as it backs away from him and the creature spears him with his first attack.
21 damage after Stoneskin.
The next three swipes of the spear are dodged by the Bold Strider as his training takes over.
AC 38 due to him wielding a spear.
Then the creature reaches forward with its dark paw and touches Karu, killing him.
25 damage means Karu took 126 damage. Started with 103 and have 18 Con. Good game, boys.

Was that 120 = 120 meant to be something else, like a typo on a die roll? 120 HP seem harsh. Just asking.

As far as this ape, with Improved Snapshot I should get an AoO, right? I think this is the first time I get to use it if I'm right.
Bow: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (3) + 23 = 26 for Arrow: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (1, 1) + 15 = 17 Vacation can't come soon enough, my die roller is tired across all games, especially with my archers.
Faldoc will hope he doesn't get pummeled to death by trying to pelt the ape with arrows! Maybe it doesn't have Combat Reflexes...
Bow: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31 for Arrow: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (2, 3) + 15 = 20 and Manyshot: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (6, 6) + 15 = 27
Bow: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (2) + 21 = 23 for Arrow: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (1, 3) + 15 = 19
Bow: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31 for Arrow: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (3, 1) + 15 = 19
Bow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 for Arrow: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (5, 6) + 15 = 26
With Stoneskin I only took 6 damage from that attack.
| DM Feral |
It was a held harm. That spell is notoriously harsh. =(
Improved Snapshot lets you threaten 10 feet. The ape moved into your threatened space but didn't move through it so it didn't provoke. On the plus side, no combat reflexes this time!
Faldoc nails the pregnant ape with three arrows. Silently, she howls in pain.
Atum and Kynrac are up. Atum owes the pregnant ape an AoO.

It's not that much the spell, but the way it's being used. The game mechanics are used at the best of their potential there. This gorilla had obviously very well-prepared for our arrival.
In any case, Karu is unfortunately too far for me to come and BoL him. Teleporting there is also out of the question, since Kynrac has no visibility in the room. Sorry, Karu. =/
Does the silence aura extend to where I am on the map? Is the pregnant ape the source of it? Your descriptive text seems to suggest it.

Is BoF still up?
Kynrac

I assumed it was since I thought we walked further inside the caverns, but the battlemap seems to suggest the fight happened in the room Markavious and I are currently in. So it should be up (since it lasts 12 rounds). Also, if the room we're in is the room where the fight against the cultists happened, wouldn't we have had a chance to hear the gorilla casting all his spells? If he heard us and pre-buffed, it would seem logical that we could hear it too. Just wondering.
