Atum Nakhti
|
Phew, ok, this is getting a little bogged down and hard to follow. As Karu noted, I think Atum should have gotten a hasted attack at the hound last round:
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 18 + 1 = 20
damage: 3d8 + 27 ⇒ (3, 2, 4) + 27 = 36
Nevermind. Now here's the AoO:
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 18 + 1 = 37
damage: 3d8 + 27 ⇒ (7, 5, 1) + 27 = 40
---
"Many thanks, Kynrac!" the giant Garundi statue bellows as his wounds are patched completely. Atum then flinches as the man's blade digs into his side. DR 5/evil while ka stone is active as well as DR 2/adamantine but IIRC they don't stack, you just use the higher one. So 34 damage takes Atum back down to 102/136 hp.
"You will regret that, little man," Atum says as his polearm strikes at the wayward Venture-Captain.
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 18 + 1 = 25
damage: 3d8 + 27 ⇒ (3, 6, 4) + 27 = 40
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 13 + 1 = 20
damage: 3d8 + 27 ⇒ (4, 2, 5) + 27 = 38
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 = 23
damage: 3d8 + 27 ⇒ (7, 4, 5) + 27 = 43
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 18 + 1 = 26
damage: 3d8 + 27 ⇒ (5, 6, 2) + 27 = 40
| DM Feral |
Sorry. I know that stuff with Mark's actions must have been confusing. In the future, if you guys are going to edit your posts in response to mine, please say something in discussion.
Atum did you include the damage from the ice storm this round?
Between Atum's quick attack when Keel came closer and his retaliatory flurry of punishing blows, the Venture-Captain is torn to pieces. In the violence his circlet slips off the dead man's head revealing him to be someone else entirely - a thin scarred man dressed in leathers.
Only the first and fourth attack hit. It took both to finish him. Karu is up.
Faldoc Tisbane
|
Protected in the force sphere, Faldoc takes the time to fetch his wand and heal himself.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Jeepers.
Karu the Bold Strider
|
Karu continues to batter at the hellhound as Atum cuts down the man. He feels the spray of the cold stones pelting his flesh, but flexes through the pain with his own innate power.
LoH: 4d6 + 8 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 2) + 8 = 26
After flexing through the pain, he lashes out three times at the hound, hoping to drop him.
Unarmed - Power Attack/Elemental Fist: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 18 - 3 + 1 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 2d6 + 21 ⇒ (1) + (3, 5) + 21 = 30 Non-lethal and affected by Faerie Fire for one round.
Fire Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) = 10
Unarmed - Power Attack: 1d20 + 13 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 13 - 3 + 1 = 24
Damage: 1d10 + 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (1) + (5, 4) + 18 = 28 Non-lethal and affected by Faerie Fire for one round.
Hasted Unarmed - Power Attack: 1d20 + 18 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 18 - 3 + 1 = 34
Damage: 1d10 + 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (4) + (4, 4) + 18 = 30 Non-lethal and affected by Faerie Fire for one round.

"The bookshelf is an illusion, the real ice devil is casting from behind it. Get rid of it or were all dead!"
| DM Feral |
With the Master of Master's wisdom guiding his blows, Karu batters the second hound silly until it collapses to the ground unconscious.
Finding the archer and the wizard protected by a sphere of force, the remaining bone devil turns its claws on the party's healer.
Kyrnac has true seeing so the invisibility is wasted this round.
Bite vs Kyrnac: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Confirming: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Extra Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Stinger: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Damage: 3d4 + 5 ⇒ (2, 2, 4) + 5 = 13
Confirming: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
Extra Damage: 3d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) + 5 = 16
And make a DC 20 fort save vs poison or take 1d3 ⇒ 2 strength damage. If you failed an earlier save vs the poison you still have to make the save but you do not take this strength damage.
After striking the bone devil vanishes again!
Kynrac and Markavious are up. Markavious needs another DC 20 fort save or he takes an additional 1d3 ⇒ 3 strength damage.
Kynrac

DM Feral / Marka: Not sure if they have resist electricity, but if they have, remember that the planeslayer's call spell I cast earlier allows you to bypass the first 10 energy resistance.
To sum up:
The first attack is an unconfirmed threat. 9 damage.
The second attack misses.
The third attack hits. 11 damage.
The stinger is an unconfirmed threat. 13 damage and a Fort save vs. poison.
Fort DC 20: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
I'm down to 17 hp. Sorry Faldoc, but I'll need to heal myself here.
Kynrac blinks once again out of time and space (time hop) and reappears behind the forcefield. He cast a potent spell to close his wounds.
CCW: 4d8 + 12 ⇒ (8, 8, 8, 2) + 12 = 38
| DM Feral |
I think you're actually down unless you negate one of those hits.
As said in discussion, you'd taken 82 damage before the full attack (you didn't update your header!). The first attack hit for 9. The second and third missed (your AC is 31 with haste). The fourth hit for 13. That puts your total damage taken at 104.
Kynrac
|
Then I'll sacrifice a 4th-level slot to use Divine Interference on the sting attack and have the bone devil reroll it with a -4 penalty. If the rerolled attack doesn't land another nat 20, I'll time hop and cast heal on myself instead of CCW.
Faldoc Tisbane
|
Faldoc will heal himself with the wand handed to him.
CSW: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 1, 1) + 5 = 14
OK, when you are ready, get us into position to handle whatever Kynrac is talking about, this bookshelf illusion thing. Faldoc then waits.
Atum Nakhti
|
"So there's something behind the bookshelf?" Atum asks as he strides across the room and tries to break the bookshelf. Can't edit the map atm. 15' reach so he will move to within 15' of the bookshelf.
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin sunder: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (6) + 26 = 32
vital strike damage: 9d8 + 27 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 7, 7, 8, 4, 1, 4) + 27 = 67
| DM Feral |
You should have 20' reach while large with a reach weapon.
Atum Will (bonus from having someone point the illusion out to him): 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 4 = 30
To Karu, Atum seems to smash the bookshelf with his polearm sending fragments of wood and books across the icy floor. Behind it, he only sees unadorned wall.
Atum sees something very different as his will separates reality from fiend's illusion. The shattered furniture becomes translucent and behind it he sees another gelugon.
Atum can see through the illusion now. Karu is up.
Karu the Bold Strider
|
Having been told that it is an illusion, Karu looks over the area closely as Kynrac and Atum are rarely wrong about such things.
Standard Action to study the illusion carefully which should grant me a Will Save.
Will Save: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (17) + 22 = 39 I hope that makes it... >.>
As he does this, Karu flexes once more to heal himself, letting his rippling muscles bulge and tighten as he strides boldly towards the broken bookcase. "Hmmm...."
LoH: 4d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 5) + 8 = 23
| DM Feral |
Karu's will proves stronger than the gelugon's magic and he too is able to pierce the illusion. Doing so seems to set the insectoid fiend off and he summons another volley of hail to pummel the heroes.
Bludgeoning Damage vs Atum, Karu, and Kynrac: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3) = 12
Cold Damage vs Atum, Karu, and Kynrac: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
With the rest of its prey out of reach, the surviving bone devil tears at Atum's back.
Bite vs Flatfooted AC: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 14 + 2 = 31
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
The rest of these are against normal AC.
Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Claw: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Stinger: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Damage: 3d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 1, 2) + 5 = 12
After its flurry of attacks the skeletal fiend vanishes from sight. Quickened Invisibility #3.
Kynrac, Markavious, Faldoc, and Atum are up.

Should I take the ice storm damage even though I'm on the other side of the wall? You could argue that he'd target it in the door frame, but he doesn't see me from where he is. Moreover, wouldn't the bone devil take any damage from that ice storm as well?
Kynrac conjures a cloud of golden particles to cover the sneaky bone devil.
"Show your true colors, devil!"
Disco devil! Casting glitterdust (orange pattern on the map), Will DC 21 negates the blindness, but the bone devil will be visible no matter the result. Also, it doesn't allow SR.
| DM Feral |
You are hit by it. He's still got the bone devil to act as spotter so he's aiming it in the hallway. I'd consider saying the sphere would block for you too but it's a cylinder of hail not a burst like a fireball.
Yes, the bone devil is affected too but between cold resistance and DR he's not taking much damage.
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
The skeletal fiend hisses in rage as he's revealed and blinded by the sparkling dust.

Seeing a new enemy right in front of him, Faldoc asks that Markavious transport them so that he is 30' away from the glitterdusted devil down the hallway. Maybe I can take this guy out. With Haste, Favored Enemy, Rapid Shot, all the goodies.
Bow: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (14) + 26 = 40 for Arrow: 1d8 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22 and Manyshot: 1d8 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21

I moved us on the map, if Faldoc wishes to adjust. Markavious will bravely huddle behind him
Kynrac

I forgot to move away from the zone of the ice storm, so I corrected that now.
Atum Nakhti
|
Atum is continually pelted by small attacks which nonetheless chip away at his hardened skin. Down to 39 hp. However, he maintains his fierce resolve and swings at the nearest devil. Switch to other target if one drops.
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 18 + 1 = 21

Karu the Bold Strider
|
Karu roars into the air as the hail crashes into him, calling down the vengeance of Irori. "Me and you, devil. Let's do this!" he says as he charges over the icy floor like it wasn't there.
Dragon Style to charge on ice. Smite Evil on Gelugon.
Karu leaps through the air and tries to bring his fiery, justice fist down on the gelugon head.
Unarmed - Smite/PA/Haste/Charge: 1d20 + 21 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 21 + 1 + 2 = 25
GM REROLL! I REFUSE TO MISS THIS!: 1d20 + 21 + 1 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 21 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 45
Damage: 1d10 + 2d6 + 33 ⇒ (10) + (2, 3) + 33 = 48 Bypasses all DR; Non-lethal and affected by Faerie Fire for one round.
Elemental Fist-Fire: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5) = 15
Karu provokes from movement if he has reach.
Kynrac

Kynrac reaches Atum and closes the living monolith's wounds with a spell.
CCW: 4d8 + 12 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 1) + 12 = 25
"Now go and lay waste to our enemy, for it is known to us. No more deception!"
| DM Feral |
As Karu closes in for a graceful martial arts strike, the icy insectoid devil lunges with its spear for his legs.
Readied Trip: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (3) + 21 = 24
AoO Trip: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (13) + 21 = 34
The spear catches him in the ankle and the aasimar is sent sprawling across the icy bedroom floor. You can save your reroll and elemental fist use since you never got to attack.
Atum, Markavious, and Faldoc are up.
Faldoc Tisbane
|
Faldoc will try to open the double doors near him. Depending if I can will determine what I do next.
Faldoc Tisbane
|
OK, I remember the other ones were but if these are the same, scratch that.
Faldoc will cast Longstrider on himself and move back toward the open doorway. He'll then look at the aforementioned bookcase and try to see where this creature is.
Do I have to interact with it to disbelieve?
Will Save JIC: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 Do I get the +4 for being told about it also?
| DM Feral |
That'll do it. Disbelieving is a standard which means you couldn't have cast longstrider but it doesn't stack with the movement boost from haste anyway.
Moving back into the suite, at first it appears that Karu has disappeared. After a moment of concentration the ranger's will overcomes the fiendish illusion and the gelugon and the fallen Bold Strider come into view.
Atum and Markavious are up.
Karu the Bold Strider
|
@Feral: How did he ready an Ice Storm, then ready a trip, all before I could go?
Faldoc Tisbane
|
That's right, Haste is still up. No need for Longstrider. I've been using Haste for attacks and just completely forgot I could actually use it to increase my move. Oy.
Atum Nakhti
|
Sorry, I was traveling yesterday. Dang, those are some convenient readied actions.
Atum moves across the ice and swings, trying to help his Bold Striding companion.
+3 impact adamantine bec de corbin: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 18 + 1 = 35
vital strike damage: 9d8 + 27 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 1, 8, 6) + 27 = 66
| DM Feral |
How so? He readied an ice storm (the same thing he'd done the last four rounds) and after that a melee attack when it looked like you guys were coming for him. What would have made more sense?
Atum's weapon slams into the gelugon with tremendous force but almost immediately the damage begins to mend.
The insectoid fiend glides across the ice to a better position before jabbing at Karu's prone form and then Atum. As it gets closer, Atum and Kynrac feel a growing sense of dread fill their thoughts.
Atum gets an AoO from the movement.
Attack vs Prone Karu: 1d20 + 21 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 21 + 4 = 45
Damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 6) + 10 = 22
Cold Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Cleave vs Atum: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30
Damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (3, 6) + 10 = 19
Cold Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Confirming: 1d20 + 21 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 21 + 4 = 35 - I think that fails to confirm
Extra Damage: 4d6 + 20 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 4) + 20 = 31
When the gelugon's spear pierces their flesh, both Karu and Atum feel Markavious's haste spell fade away. Haste was dispeled from both of you.
Atum and Kynrac need a DC 22 will save versus fear. If you fail you're panicked for the next 14 rounds. If you succeed you're just shaken for a round. This is mind affecting.
The party is up.
Reminder: Atum gets an AoO as the gelugon moved into position. After that, it got into Atum's polearm dead zone so Atum can't attack it with his polearm again unless he moves or has some trick that let's him ignore said dead zone. Also, the entire room and hallway is difficult terrain.
Faldoc Tisbane

Faldoc, finally able to see this enemy, fires away!
Bow: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (18) + 26 = 44 for Arrow: 1d8 + 19 ⇒ (6) + 19 = 25 and Manyshot: 1d8 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26

Save vs fear, reroll 3 stars: 1d20 + 14 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 14 + 3 = 26
As he was about to flee at the suddenly truly horrid sight of the gelugon, Kynrac's eyes gaze upon his wayfinder, thus reminding him of his duties to the Society.
Not now. I am not a cowardly man anymore. Irori, grant me strength!
Kynrac indeed looks for intercession from Irori, hoping someone as self-perfected as Karu will find the inner strength to avoid the blow at the last moment.
Divine Interference, sacrificing a 2nd-level spell slot for a -2 penalty.
Then he shifts away from the Gelugon's reach, reappearing behind Karu and laying a soothing hand on him.
Move action to teleport 30 feet, then casting breath of life on Karu, whatever the result of the crit. I'll cast defensively just to be on the safe side.
Concentration DC 25: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (17) + 24 = 41
Breath of Life @Karu: 5d8 + 12 ⇒ (8, 1, 7, 2, 6) + 12 = 36
| DM Feral |
Unfortunately the penalty still applies. Charge is a specific full round action. Regardless of being tripped or eaten by a grue, the penalty applies until the beginning of his next turn.
Reroll vs Prone Karu: 1d20 + 21 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 21 + 4 - 2 = 26
Because that was turned into a miss the cleave into Atum will be canceled as well.
Compelled by Kynrac, Irori reaches down a second time. This time the god of enlightenment shields his champion from harm.
Faldoc's arrows pepper the gelugon wounding it badly despite its unholy resilience.
Markavious, Atum, and Karu are up.
Karu the Bold Strider
|
The crit wouldn't have confirmed in the first place. Karu has the boon Spearmind which gives him a +1 Dodge AC bonus against weapons in the spear weapon group.
@Kynrac: Karu is at nearly full health, even before you saved me the one strike. I wouldn't worry about Breath of Life on me.
Kynrac calls down a prayer to aid Karu and it seems to protect him from a minor strike. The Paragon of Irori boldly stands up in the face of the devil.
AoO from the Gelugon. AC 38 as the Haste wasn't dispelled due to Kynrac's interference.
Provokes from movement.
As he moves forward, his traditional dragon fighting style adopts a peculiar quirk as he stays lower to the ground and his eyes flash green and his skin takes on a copper burnish.
Activate Shaitan Style to enter Copper Dragon Style; Master of Many Styles.
| DM Feral |
Good point. Atum still has his haste as well. The trip did land because the charge penalty applies to CMD as well.
AoO for standing: 1d20 + 21 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 21 + 4 = 45
Damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (3, 6) + 10 = 19
Cold Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Wow. Haste is dispelled.
Confirming: 1d20 + 21 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 21 + 4 = 32
Extra Damage: 4d6 + 20 ⇒ (1, 4, 5, 4) + 20 = 34
AoO Trip for movement: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (7) + 23 = 30
This time Karu's better prepared and avoids the Gelugon's tricky manuever. It stares at the aasimar coldly, not intimated by his flowery speech.
Markavious and Atum are up.

If you don't need the healing, I'll cast it on Atum instead, then.
