Yes...obvious to everyone but me...thanks Vladek. I think I left my brain back at the beginning of the holidays, haven't found where I left it.

Concentration check was successful, Rogar
Using his knowledge of Osiriani religions, Magor attempts to stop the next blast from the monolith. He twists and pulls at the runes, trying to rearrange their function. It may have worked as the monolith is silent this time. Need a fort save from Magor, Qadathra, and Rok vs fatigue
Amenopheus concentrates and lets loose a lightning bolt through the creature's midsection, blasting away chunks of bone.
The bone creature reacts to Theo's strikes by turning and biting and clawing with abandon. Theo just narrowly escapes becoming his next meal.

Vladek staggers toward the gashadokuro, and he is pleased to see it now at such a disadvantage. "Hunger? That's your game, is it? Well," He shouts as it as he reaches for an ancient shark's jaw with long, wicked teeth. "Here's another mouth to feed!"
He drops the jaw into the sand at his feet, and from it rise 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 warped-looking ghouls (blue border) and a horrifying ghast (magenta border), that all immediately rush after and begin tearing at the greater monster!

"Most excellent tactic, Mister Rok!" says the battered and bloodied Taldan warrior, before attempting to take this opportunity to keep slicing at the skeletal warrior's joints.
I'm not modifying my numbers with the pinned condition -4 AC, as I figured this will be handled on the GM's end; therefore, the following rolls make no mention of it.

Rogar then flies down next to Magor
"We have to stop this dammed monolith!"

![]() |

"May I suggest you pit this huge elemental against the monolith?"

![]() |

Even though the pains pulse in his abdomen, Evad slides in on the creature, whose snapping jaw misses the dodgy monk, but who also evades his retaliatory strike, but not his follow-up. immune to stun
Rok takes the opportunity to place the monstrosity into a simple headlock and it strains against the mighty tiger.
Qadathra burns the pathetic beast before retreating, the fatigue beginning to set in. Theodric lets loose on the restrained foe, striking several times with his sharp falcata.
A sudden earth elemental appears on the periphery and smashes at the gashadokuro. Finally, it spine separates and the bones falls to the ground in a crumpled mess.
The monolith remains quiet as Magor tries to figure out its workings. As the gashadokuro dissipates, the runes on the monolith begin to darken to a dull gray. The sandstorm weakens slightly but does not disappear.
"I believe we need to destroy it, completely, now." Amenopheus pokes at the gnarled base of the monolith and struggles to lift Rogar's pick off the ground.
Combat Over... No need for Vladek's spell.
Even though the gashadokuro is gone, the fatigue and starvation pains still wrack most of you. As you begin the process of healing (wands and such), you realize that no one can heal any of the starvation (nonlethal) damage you have taken. No one, that is, except when Theodric tries to heal himself.
Figure out why that would be, correct it, and I'll let you finish healing fully.

I don't suppose you have another one of those nice apples? Asks a plaintive voice in Theodric's head.

![]() |

Vladek is about to dig into his own rations when he senses Qadathra's plea to Theodric, and an idea strikes him.
This is like in a fable, isn't it? He thinks.
He approaches Rogar, and offers him some of his rations.

![]() |

With the battle finally over, Rok retrieves the an amulet and a cracked ioun stone from his fur and dons them.
dispelling amulet of mighty fists and the vibrant purple prism (cracked) ioun stone from his polymorphic pouch. @Rogar; Last chance to say you used your greater dispel last night before I assume the sage filled the dispelling amulet with his spell.
I don't know if you aren't noticing these requests or if you just don't want to.
Turning his big head to Amenopheus "W-w-what will happen when we destroy it?"
Rok offers his last 3 charges of his wand of infernal healing for someone to heal Amenopheus.

![]() |

As Rogar munches and then heals, it becomes apparent that all of your damage can be healed once you have nourished yourself. Although I do like Vladek's take, too.
Amenopheus strikes the basalt awkwardly and the pick slides across the face, causing him to stumble a few steps. Turning to the tiger, he shakes his head. "I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think we should just let it stand. Perhaps it is summoning undead or at least these harsh winds."

![]() |

Theodric shares apples with everyone, or if preferred, some actual meaty rations. He approaches Amenopheus and extending a hand towards the heavy pick, he kindly asks, "Sir, may I?"
Do we have a channeler or is all the damage handled via wand charges on this one?

![]() |

Evad eats some rations to stave off the starvation. I don't know why I'm so hungry, not considering the magical effects.
He looks to Amenopheus, Does it need to come down by force or magic or both?

![]() |

"Thanks Vladek for the jerky and hardback."
Would it bother Rogar to know that jerky and hardtack aren't what he's being offered?
Vladek and Qadathra eagerly accept Theodric's apples and meat.
@DM: The following is assuming we're about to rest once we've dealt with the monolith. If not, I'll take all this back and proceed differently.
Healing Hex on Qadathra: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (8, 3) + 10 = 21
I also place my Ward Hex back on Qadathra.
Healing Hex on Rogar: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (8, 7) + 10 = 25
Healing Hex on Theodric: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (5, 7) + 10 = 22
Healing Hex on Evad: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 4) + 10 = 15
Healing Hex on Amenopheus: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (6, 5) + 10 = 21
Again, assuming we're about to rest, could somebody else heal me?

![]() |

"Use that healing stick Vladek, you need it! oh, and can you top me off too? I'm still aching like a motherf... well, my injuries are still numerous... if you know what I mean...." says Theodric, handing over his healing wand to Vladek.

![]() |

Rok looks around the desert, "This must be only the first of the sanctuarys defenses? I don't think now is the time to rest."
Things seem stable for the moment so waits until everyone is healed before helping destroy it.

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Amenopheus chimes in. "Yes, destroy it we must, and soon. Time, I am afraid, is not on our side. The tremors we felt must have done massive damage to the structures below. The very places we seek to complete the ritual. We may only have hours left to complete our mission."
So, yes, save your hexes. Figure out your healing and with the help of the elementals, you can quickly bring down the monolith.

![]() |

Uh-oh. I specifically thought, based on what you'd said, that there'd be the desert journey, then time to rest, then the dungeon delve. I'd have prepared different spells if I'd thought differently.
cure light wounds wand on Rogar: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
cure light wounds wand on Rogar: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

cure light wounds wand on self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
cure light wounds wand on self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
I place my Ward Hex back on Qadathra.
cure light wounds wand on Qadathra: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
cure light wounds wand on Qadathra: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
cure light wounds wand on Qadathra: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

![]() |

@Vladek Sorry, if it was unclear to you, but I think I gave the right info out. As I mentioned in the discussion thread, there would only be one rest (with a chance to prepare spells) before the delve, and that occurred in game during my 2nd post on Dec 27. To be honest, there is actually not an explicit rest to do that in the actual scenario, but I felt that was too harsh, so I threw this one in.
@Magor Those that were fatigued by the starvation aura are no longer fatigued.

![]() |

In that case, can we at least say I supplied Rok's amulet with a dispel magic before we'd rested? If I'd understood it that way, I would have.

@GM: Are we indeed about to enter the place where we think there might be diseases?

Theodric looks at Magor worriedly, and says, "Hmmm... well said Master Lavablood..." before downing both an antiplague and an antitoxin. He also drinks a potion of endure elements and a potion of spider climb. Finally, as the group enters the ancient site, Theodric humbly requests that Qadathra applies Bull's Strength magic unto him.

Rogar drinks his anti-plague too. "Thanks all for the healing. Lets press on. " before he dismisses the elemental he adds, "Nice work big guy. But I think the tiger got one up on yah"

@Rogar: Not Vladek's!
@Theodric: Done.

After you are finished felling the monolith, the sandstorm settles completely and the other sages quickly return to meet you. They bear some marks of battle, but are largely unharmed. Amenopheus joins them and they briefly confer.
After the sages finish their conference, Tahonikepsu steps forward and addresses you as you eat and heal. "Thank you all for dealing with those creatures. We have determined that we must use the sage jewels together to find the entrance to the tombs and libraries below. Perhaps you can help us search this area." She kicks at the remnants of the monolith.
"Once inside, we believe there will be several locations to explore, and we know that you as Pathfinders would like to do that. I believe that the best way to do that will be for you to select a sage to guide you while the remaining sages scout out a proper location for our ritual."
A sudden rumbling underfoot shifts the sands substantially.
Amenopheus pipes up. "It is as I feared. The ground is tenuous. Whatever guardians have awoken have weakened the site. We only have a few hours to do this, maybe six at best, perhaps only two...let's say four to be safe—before this process causes irreparable damage and the facility collapses on itself."
Please choose a sage to accompany you to search the underground ruins.
Also, give me a marching order on the map, any other buffs or preparations, and any special instructions on searching for traps, etc..

![]() |

"Sinuhotep, w-w-will you join us. Or cast tongues on one or two of us before we part ways?"
After that last combat that freedom of movement is looking really tempting too. Should grab a tongues for someone smarter than Rok.
Rok centers himself for a moment to lower his defences as Amenopheus casts a scroll of heroism on Rok. Standard action to suppress his spell resistance.
My vote is Sinuhotep for his buffs or Amenopheus again for his d-door.

![]() |

Do note that those sages that have cast before have a limited number of spells per day.

![]() |

"Whenever we reach stone doors or obstacles, do not move forward until I say so."
@GM: Magor can see through, move through, and just generally impose his will on stone, and will do so anytime it is in the way, i.e. a stone door or wall between him and the next room. And he drinks an antiplague once everyone is ready to move forward.

![]() |

Don't forget to log a vote for a sage, everyone.

![]() |

Sinuhotep for Theodric's vote as well -- Speaking With Dead appears useful when going into a tomb...

![]() |

Sure the Lich! I trust him more than Torch :)

![]() |

Yes, Sinuhotep - you know, the one who's immune to disease!
Are we still fatigued?
Vladek summons a gentle breeze around himself, and uses the two scrolls Grandmaster Torch had given him.
