Dispel Magic seems pretty useful. Raise Dead is nice, too.
Argust Autumnwind |
OK, guess I'll take Critical Mastery unless someone can suggest a better one. Also, who will use this new shard? You can only have one shard at a time, right?
EndlessForms |
You can only have one shard at a time, right?
I think that's just the PFS/chronicle sheet versions. I don't remember there being any rule for that in the AP other than your own paranoias in the first book.

I'm not sure how I managed to miss this, but Bert has no classes with medium armor proficiency. Rather than blow a feat for two points of AC, I'm going to exchange his mithril breastplate for a mithril chain shirt.
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
I hadn't realized that elven chain counted as light armor for proficiency--will do.
ETA: Though it is another point of ACP, and Bert's got a few DEX-based skills. Though the difference between +28 and +29 Disable Device is not that great....
Argust Autumnwind |
Oh, well if I can carry two, I'd do it unless Karn needs it.
Argust Autumnwind |
Outside of the Shard, did we collect any loot to sell? Might not be enough for me to purchase anything but I thought I'd ask.
Argust Autumnwind |
Wow, over 2 years and now 4000 posts. I just noticed that.
EndlessForms |
Yes! Congrats! You guys are my longest-running AP and probably my fastest too, although my RotR group is swiftly catching up (they're almost done with book 4 and started only about 1.5 years ago). Either way, we're on track to potentially finish by the end of the year or early next year at the latest. I have to say, Shattered Star has exceeded my expectations. I'm not usually a fan of dungeon-crawl type adventures but these have been very good dungeons in general.
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
I'm going to be camping this weekend, and largely off the grid. (Prep for the trip has also eaten a bunch of time--first time we've gone in a few years.)
Argust Autumnwind |
I will be going on vacation starting Friday and will have no internet access for the vast majority of the time I'm away. I should be back a week from Sunday. Please bot my PC as best you can please!
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
Have fun, y'all.
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
At a con this weekend, starting tomorrow morning, and the hotel charges for internet access. I'll be back Monday.

Hey everyone! I'm doing a bit of a private recruitment for the upcoming Gameday specials by only announcing it to a few of my games at a time until they are full.
First, I am starting 06-98 Serpent's Rise on September 19 (the first day of Gameday 4). This is the special where you get to play 7th-level Aspis pregens. Go ahead and check in on the campaign Discussion and Gameplay threads if you are interested. I'm taking six players and it's first-come-first-served.
The next one isn't starting for a while but I've got it set up anyways. Starting on November 5th is the special 06-97 Siege of Serpents. This is open for levels 1-11 and is again first-come-first-serve. The six that get in will need to coordinate and decide on a tier. Since it is not starting for a couple months obviously your character does not have to be free immediately and you all have time to decide on the party composition. You are welcome to check in on the Gameplay and Discussion threads though and start organizing the party.
Thanks!
Argust Autumnwind |
Are you running a table? I don't see yours on the spreadsheet.
EndlessForms |
I didn't put it up on the spreadsheet; I'm just trying private recruitment first as sort of a special privilege for players who have been with me for a few years now.
Argust Autumnwind |
Yeah, I had figured it out. I signed up for both, thanks for the invites!

Currently in Indianapolis visiting a sick friend. I can't access the map.

Back from Indy. Friend had minor stroke, followed by aneurysm; she's still extremely out of it, but at least she's conscious and talking a little now.

Sorry, had to teach my first discussion section yesterday and I spent a lot of time preparing for it.
What course are you teaching?
Also, over in Gamer Connection there's someone looking for PF games in Madison. I gave a couple of potential PFS points of contact and mentioned your name as well.
EndlessForms |
I'm teaching one of the discussion/recitation sessions for the undergraduate genetics course (466). My first lesson went better than expected. They're not giving us any guidance so it'should really up to us to prepareview for it each week.
Also, very cool! My wife and I haven't played any f2f pathfinder in over a year. I've been surprised that the local group makes no attempt to recruit from the student body so the demographics are no quite the same (or as large) as the group in Bloomington.
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
I can't remember if we took five days off for scroll prep and feat retraining--Brelar, did you take that?
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
Hey, if you can counterspell any of her stuff, that'd help.
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
30' fly speed, perfect maneuverability :-(.
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
Hey, EF--GameHole Con is looking for PFS GMs, first full weekend in November in Madison. See HERE if you're interested.
EndlessForms |
We don't have the dates locked down yet but some time around November 6-9 our lab is going back down to Florida to collect tissue samples for DNA extraction. Although we planted about a week later than planned so that might be delayed. Our travel plans are sort of up in the air at this point.
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
I figure Argust should use haste from the Shard. Bert can spam shatter spells for a few rounds; 6d6 no save is better than he can do with a weapon, even with his undead bane sword.
EndlessForms |
I didn't realize until I loaded the new map and started reviewing this section that we were so close to the end of this book. Only about four more encounters and a bit of exploring until we finish up Book 5 and start the last leg of the adventure!
EndlessForms |
So this is a tough one, with Karn being your main healer and being on a different (demi?)plane and all. Unless you guys have something handy to bring him back, I'm having trouble thinking of options. Plane shift? Summon something capable of healing or preservation? Not really sure.
I will say that you guys have a pretty good track record so far though. In my RoW game I think we had at least one death in every book and by the end everyone (including the two animals) had died at least once, not counting the half-dozen or so times (no exaggeration) the magus died and was brought back by a breath of life immediately. That being said, my RotR group is starting book 5 and I don't think they have had a death yet. They came close recently but the oracle was able to remedy it before it was permanent.
EndlessForms |
Congrats on being my first PbP AP to make it this far! I have to admit, I was really apprehensive to start a PbP AP because of the huge commitment, especially SS as it is a major dungeon-crawl AP and that is not usually my style, but you guys have been very good at keeping the momentum up for these past few years. Let's keep it strong through book 6 and finish this up! Based on our previous rates, I anticipate we could finish this some time in the spring-summer next year.
And here is your book 5 chronicle!
Just let me know which PFS character you are applying it to so I can report it.
Thanks!
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
67750-2
Thanks! Bert will take a level in archaeologist.
Argust Autumnwind |
Put it toward Faldoc Tisbane as he's the closest.
PFS # 79644-2
Faction : Andoran
Hunting Lodge (Survival) Day Job: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
Wheee! Go us!
So, when we finish this AP, which one will we play next? :)
EndlessForms |
So, when we finish this AP, which one will we play next? :)
You're probably being a bit tongue-in-cheek but I haven't written it off entirely. I won't be doing another immediately, at least until another one or two of my APs finish up (RotR is not far behind). In the future I will be limiting myself to 1-2 at a time. But we will have to wait and see what my work-load is like then; I will be done with classes this spring but might have other things come up in their stead.
Argust Autumnwind |
Just a bit. I would seriously consider doing another with you all.
Back to this one, I'm again taking suggestions for Argust's next feat. I thought of taking Blinding Critical but that would give him three options and he can only use two at a time, though it could be a decent combo. Any other ideas?
EndlessForms |
You seem to already have just about anything I would suggest. Blind Fight is never a bad idea and it's my go-to feat when I don't know what else to take. Rolling twice on miss-chances against invisible is nice although at this level your party has ways to deal with invisibility but the really nice thing is not being FF against invisible enemies if you ever happen to get ambushed.
Argust Autumnwind |
Yep, have Blind Fight already since I got tired of the miss chances a while back. :)
Edrebertil "Bert" Blackwillow |
Maybe Steel Soul? An extra +2 on spell saves might come in handy.
Karnhousk Jarlson |
I think I'm going to keep putting these chronicles on 65114-4, Flinders.
At this level, it gets hard. I have Flinders at exactly 33 XP, so he could potentially do a rerun of Eyes or a run of Wardens. Not really sure what other PC to put it on though. Shin is level 15. I suppose I could put it on him. So frustrating! I like to keep the same chronicles on the same PC for flavor/continuity, but.....
hmmm......
Argust Autumnwind |
I think I'll go with that Steel Soul suggestion. Saves are always good.
I need to beef up my AC though, I'll have to do that magically unless I decide to swap out of Vital Strike or something. I'm not sure an extra 2d6 of damage on a single attack is worth as much as gaining +1 AC with a feat like Ironhide. Opinions?
