I believe it has to beat 11 + CL, right?

Seal expertly finishes off the two giants while Lucian's azata ally dismisses the priestess' silence effect, allowing Rissi and Lucian to cast more easily again.

Lucian uses the opportunity to step behind his dwarven friend and teleport on the other side of the blade barrier.

Also, setting up a nice flank.

So I think you guys wanted to wait for Rissi to return before going to the final fight, right? That's fine with me, I don't want anyone to miss out.

However, I'm available to post right now but things are only going to get harder for me as we wait longer; I'll be traveling again around November 13 and then we'll hit the Thanksgiving holidays, and then I'll be in either Florida or Hawaii for most of December, then in Florida again for the first half of January. Since we're so close I'll make an effort to post as often as possible even if I'm traveling but it will still be a little slow.

"So the final battle is almost here. I have to say, I never thought that our chance meeting in Sandpoint would lead to this, a battle against an ten-millenia old evil. I am truly grateful that Irori brought me along this path."

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Ok, I'm back from my trip. Still haven't heard from Rissi in a really long time but I'll set up the final fight and then we can decide how to proceed.

Rissi and Lucian work together studying the immense gold globe, which they determine is a powerful magical artifact known as an anima focus—the magical link between this world and a runewell hidden within a demiplane known as The Eye of Avarice.

They determine that whoever steps onto the glowing platform atop the anima focus can be transported to the Eye of Avarice by touching the fire; however, this is quite a harsh and shocking process. A magical link between the globe and the party's dominant weapons provides a safer link, as the dominant weapons can open a portal which will remain open for at least a little while to allow safe transport.

Rissi and Lucian determine, however, that this is likely a one-way transport and returning will require plane shift, gate, or some similar magical expertise.

Sheltered from the apocalypse of Earthfall, the fall of the empire of Thassilon, and from the very advance of time itself, the pocket dimension known as the Eye of Avarice floats in a sphere of reality wedged between the Material Plane and the nightmare realm of Leng. This demiplane features an endless hurricane of churning fire, with a relatively tiny sphere of safety lodged in its center—this is the eye itself, and is where Karzoug has spent 10,000 years in stasis, waiting to rise again....

You appear in the Eye of Avarice on a stone platform. Numerous red-hot pillars of gold rise from the fires below in the Eye of Avarice.

A character who ends her turn in a square adjacent to one of these pillars takes 1d6 points of fire damage—contact with a pillar deals 3d6 points of fire damage.

There are balconies above supported by chains attached to the pillars—no walls extend down to the fires below from these balconies. Despite their precarious appearance, they can support any weight upon them. Each balcony is 150 feet above the fires below.

The walls surrounding the extravagant throne are decorated with countless books and workspaces. Standing in front of the throne is the Runelord himself, Karzoug patiently waiting for your entrance with a look of self-assured determination on his face.

A rune giant and two storm giants stand to either side of Karzoug and above on the balcony to the left a full-grown blue dragon perches, ready to pounce down on the intruders.

"Welcome to the rise of Thassilon, friends. You shall be the first victims in the reinstatement of my glory and I regret that your lives will quickly be forgotten by the march of history."

With a hand full of ruby dust, she quickly tosses it in the direction of the Runelord. Walls of electric blue force begin to close in on the arch-mage.

Spinning around, Rissi tosses three nuts shells in the direction of the two storm giants.

Lucky you guys!

As Karzoug's hands fly flaster than time should allow, a colorful wall appears in front of his throne to block your progress.

I don't think this will ever apply but: Any other creature with less than 8 HD that is within 20 feet of the wall is blinded by the colors for 2d4 rounds if it looks at the wall.

The wall shines red when he first creates it but turns to orange as Karzoug covers himself with a globe of invulnerability and time turns back to normal.

destroying the wall:
The wall can be destroyed, color by color, in consecutive order, by casting the specified spells on the wall; however, the first color must be brought down before the second can be affected, and so on. A rod of cancellation or a mage's disjunction spell destroys a prismatic wall, but an antimagic field fails to penetrate it. Dispel magic and greater dispel magic can only be used on the wall once all the other colors have been destroyed. Spell resistance is effective against a prismatic wall, but the caster level check must be repeated for each color present.

color effects:

Obviously copying a table on here doesn't work well but hopefully you can figure out what means what:

Order Color Effect of Color Negated By
1st Red Stops nonmagical ranged weapons. Deals 20 points of fire damage (Reflex half). Cone of cold
2nd Orange Stops magical ranged weapons. Deals 40 points of acid damage (Reflex half). Gust of wind
3rd Yellow Stops poisons, gases, and petrification. Deals 80 points of electricity damage (Reflex half). Disintegrate
4th Green Stops breath weapons. Poison (frequency: 1/rd for 6 rd.; init. effect: death, sec. effect: 1 Con/rd.; cure 2 consecutive Fort saves). Passwall
5th Blue Stops divination and mental attacks. Turned to stone (Fortitude negates). Magic missile
6th Indigo Stops all spells. Will save or become insane (as insanity spell). Daylight
7th Violet Energy field destroys all objects and effects.* Creatures sent to another plane (Will negates). Dispel magic or greater dispel magic

I'll roll Rissi's saves since it impacts my Hp (via shield other), assuming BoF was taken preemptively for AC/Ref saves/atk rolls:
Rissi's Ref: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 17 - 4 = 28

Rissi's Ref: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 17 - 4 = 14
Rissi takes 49 damage, and Lucian takes 50 damage.

Sorry, I missed the question about teleport and had to look into it a bit. It seems that the sixth and seventh layers of the prismatic wall prevent teleport and similar effects:

Quote:

6th Indigo Stops all spells. Will save or become insane (as insanity spell).

7th Violet Energy field destroys all objects and effects. Creatures sent to another plane (Will negates).

As far as I can see, he can choose to walk out of it or you can destroy it but otherwise he's pretty safe in there. It is a level 8 spell, after all.

Okay, I'll retcon then (so will the ghaele, but not Evanya). I'm away from my computer so I'll only be able to do it in a couple hours. Can you move the tokens back to their original position please?

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Sure thing. I've never actually used prismatic wall before but it was in his tactics and seemed like a good spell. I think it's essentially impermeable except the ways outlined above on destroying it. And that violet layer seems to override the effects of the other layers; the only reason the other layers have distinct effects is that there are items that create only certain colors. So destroying just the red layer doesn't do much until the whole thing is destroyed because the violet and indigo layers still block pretty much everything.

Male Human (Varisian) Oracle (Lore) 8, Evangelist 10 | HP 165/165 | AC:36 T:20 FF:29 CMD: 30 | F+13 R+22 W+24 (+2 vs transmutation) | Init +5 | Per +25 (+4 to determine whether he's surprised), Darkvision 60ft

I'm considering my options here. Would ethereal jaunt allow me to circumvent the prismatic wall if I went through the actual stone wall? That being said, for this round:

Lucian, seeing that thunderous giants and a blue dragons are pitted against them, wards the party against electricity.

Casting communal resist electricity (30) on Sealman, Rissi, the ghaele, Thunderpuss, Evanya and myself.

Meanwhile, the ghaele azata drowns the dragon in a prismatic spray. As in previous post. It probably won't beat the dragon's SR, but it makes sense that he'd stick to that plan.

Sealman allows the giant a few moments more to breath as he instead engages with the dragon. Seal evades the reach of the dragon (the 1st 10') and tries to cleave the terrible lizard in twain.

ooc gritty rules discussion:

Ok, I went down a rabbit hole reading more about prismatic wall/sphere and I think my cursory look into it the other day wasn't sufficient. The big thing is the difference between wall and sphere. The sphere emanates from a point (the caster) and the effects are active within the sphere. So if you try to teleport (or some other effect) into it, you are hit by the effects once you appear.

However, for prismatic wall the effects only take place when you pass through the wall. Therefore many people argue you can teleport inside since that shifts you to the Astral Plane and the wall only exists on the Material Plane. And once inside you are safe. I think I tend to agree with this interpretation and since Karzoug cast prismatic wall (and not sphere), that means Lucian could have teleported people inside.

Sorry about the confusion and going back on what I said before but I wanted to make sure I was doing it right.

This might change Lucian's and Seal's actions so you guys can go back to the original plan if you want.

I agree with your decision, that's how I would have adjudicated it. However, I didn't want to question your judgement. Let's go back to the original plan then, if that's okay with you! Seal, if you'll do the honors.

OK going full attack on the Rune Lord. For my first hit, it will be the rolls above -4 since I'm not flanking or using BoF bonus. Instead I will use BoF for an extra attack. I'm going to role Bane dmg because I'm assuming Rissi knew what she was talking about when she wanted the Domineering on Isoult figuring Karzoug is a transmuter. So actually, only -2 off the first roll but add Dmg: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9 if that's a hit. I'm also assuming Karzoug is currently size Large too? If not that will reduce my to hit and dmg by 2. Clear as mud? Excellent, let the hackfest begin!

Appearing within the prismatic wall, the rainbow colored light shimmer over Sealman and Thunderpuss's faces. Rage and anger has full enveloped them.

Ok, sorry about all that. Hopefully things are worked out now (and really, it's for the benefit of you guys anyways! Otherwise Karzoug would be up to some shenanigans in there...).

And of course Karzoug is a transmuter! (Not that Seal would know that, but Rissi and Lucian certainly would!)

Re: prismatic spray on the prismatic wall: I suppose if you targeted the wall and hit with the right ray.

Lucian grabs his companions and teleports into Karzoug's magical disco color bubble. Lucian tries to add to the vibe with a laser show but Karzoug is unfazed.

Seal cuts into Karzoug twice but Thunderpuss isn't able to hit the powerful transmuter with his many magical defenses.

Each of the storm giants start working their hands in their air, arcs of electricity sparking between their fingers. Twin bolts of lightning shoot from their hands directly at Rissi and Miana! So my daily duties in the field only take a few hours but they forgot to warn me that I'd need to collect 6000 leaf samples while I'm here. I've been in the field from sunup to sundown but I'm almost finished and then things should be easier for a while.

I don't think you can banish or dismiss dragons though, at least not this dragon. Basishment says the target is one or more extraplanar creatures, but blue dragons don't have that descriptor: LE Huge dragon (earth). Unless someone can correct me I think Rissi needs to do something different.

Huh, that's awesome. I've come across plenty of monsters with the extraplanar subtype but I had no idea any old creature could acquire it just by being somewhere else. Ok, I stand corrected, Rissi can try to shunt the dragon away:

Will: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Rissi tries to throw the dragon back to the Material Plane from whence it came but the dragon is too firmly attached to this place, driving by Karzoug's strong influence!

Karzoug seems unfazed as he turns about, standing on his throne to increase his stature over you even further. With a grasping motion he tries to pull the moisture from your very bodies....

Hits Seal, Thunderpuss, Lucian, and the angelbuddy.

damage: 20d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 1, 4, 1, 6, 2, 1, 1, 3, 3, 2, 5, 2, 4, 1, 6, 6, 6) = 59
DC 32 Fort for half

With the rod in his other hand he again quickly stops time!

1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Again Karzoug's hands move faster than you can track. He withdraws a wand and covers his skin in a stony coating. Stepping down off his throne he then throws up a wall of force to block Seal, Thunderpuss, Lucian, and the azata in the small alcove. Karzoug then protects himself with what Lucian recognizes as globe of invulnerability and spell turning. He then fills the alcove behind the wall of force with a noxious gas...

Cloudkill:

  • 3 or fewer HD: die automatically
  • 4 to 6 HD: slain unless DC 28 Fort save (then 'only' 1d4 points of Con dmg each round)
  • 6 or more HD: 1d4 points of Con damage each round (DC 28 Fort for half)

Meanwhile across the chamber the dragon, finding itself surrounded, tries to turn invisible but can not get the spell off.

Kufieno AC is 33 now

Ooooo Karzoug just dun goofed making Seal angry(-er)!

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Yep, Kufieno's damage from last round was noted. I just forgot to mention it in the flavor text.

Poor, poor, Thunderpuss. You lasted beyond all reasonable odds. Maybe your pile of dust can be swept up and brought back some day. For now, a moment of silence for the loyal cat....

---

Although things are looking grim in the cloud behind the wall of force as everyone's favorite cat crumbles to dust and Seal's dwarven temper is set to release at full capacity, Kufieno expertly lines up his series of bites and scatches beneath the dragon's plates and before long the dragon is tumbling out of the sky, landing in the bubbling lava below to be slowly dissolved....

The rune giant is unfazed, however, and continues slowly walking towards the party, his massive sword readied as he points at Rissi and commands, "Just stand still, you little rat."

DC 19 Will save or be dominated!

Initiative:

1. Rissi
2. Karzoug (119 dmg, 100 pnts, invulnerability)
3. Kufieno
4. Rune Giant
5. Lucian and Seal
6. Storm Giants
7. Miana

Lucian and Seal are up!

Waiting on Lucian to see if any magiks can get us out of this madness. How high are the ceilings? Does the wall of force completely wall us in the chamber?

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Welcome all!

You will be joined shortly by Tektite. I believe he is bringing a suli sorcerer>dragon disciple.

First an uncharacteristic greeting: Howdy all!

"Greetings everyone.", bows the armored woman in front of you before taking her place at the tavern's round table.

"What brings you to Varisia?"

A gloved and heavily robed and cowled woman, perhaps a halfling or a gnome, shifts in her seat nervously. She has a book written in strange script in front of her, as well as a cup of brownish tea.

"*chhh*" - Most humble greetings, Madam. I would not wish to burden you with my tale, but I am a victim of unfortunate circumstances; I was on my way to Magnimar but was waylaid, and have not yet found the means to restart my journey. Goblins were involved, but the details *chhh* are irrelevant. She coughs a little. "I apologize, I seem to have something stuck in my throat. *chhh*"

"Why do I stay, is *chhh* perhaps a better question. The Old Lighthouse, the Varisian people - so much fascinating history and magic here. There is much here *chhh* to learn if one looks with the right eyes."

"But I get ahead of myself. I am Hidetsugu Rissi, a minor student of the arcane and alchemical arts. " She bows slightly.

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, miss Rissi.", tilting her body forward slightly with prayer hands.

"I've heard that goblins are particularly problematic here in southern Varisia; they and some of the more rumored monsters in the area are why I am here.", sipping some tea as she tries to identify more of the strange guest given her dialect.

"Although I do agree with you there is much history and culture to learn. I believe there is to be a local festival tomorrow that should be entertaining and informative."

Dipping some hard bread into the tea to soften her meal, Miana continues. "Hidetsugu... you hail from Tian-Xia as well?"

She excited replies in a lilted Tien.

Tien:
"It is so rare to meet one with whom I can speak in Tien. I was born in that land, but very young when my family made the journey over the crown of the world. I remember very little, but have read extensively about it."

She pauses for a moment, closing her book.

Tien:
"I have lived many places. You might call me a citizen of Golarion."

Tien back:

"Agreed, although my situation is somewhat the opposite of yours. My mother left Qadira during my infancy and traveled much before settling near Quain. It is there that I call home; I became devoted in the monastic ways of Irori and learned how to balance and control the... typical impulsiveness of those with my history."

Miana then pauses upon Rissi's last statement.

Tien once more:

"Citizen of Golarion... that is a very worldly view. I admire it."

"Perhaps to become a citizen of Golarion like yourself.", grins the paladin, unable to resist the obvious opening.

"Truthfully, this is just the latest of many stops. I came to Varisia via Magnimar, and have journeyed along as I am guided. I do not have a direct goal here in Sandpoint, but I do hear of rumors of several legendary monsters that roam the land."

Finishing her tea and looking at the marked beam ahead, Miana continues. "And locally, I hear there's a test of fortitude within this very establishment that I may push myself to pass."

Lucian blinks as he hears Tien being spoken in the room. He politely waits for both speakers to finish their conversation, though his restlessness seems to indicate he would like to chime in. Refraining from doing so, he simply smiles in a friendly way.

"Well met, I am Lucian Arvandru, native of Sandpoint and apprentice to our local sage, Brodert Quink. Forgive me my asking, but did you just mention the Old Light? I could tell you a tale or two about this monolith, if you so desire. I have been helping Sage Quink for years now, and while this tower of sorts remains little more than a local curiosity for most people, I assure you it is the depository of long-lost secrets. It is only a matter of months until we learn the truth."

The Varisian boy who just spoke appears to be no more than twenty years old, the bashful tone of youth vibrant in his voice. He's dressed in simple clothes, though his colorful kapenia, wrapped around his waist, makes him stand out a little.

"Ah yes, goblins. Pesky buggers, to be honest. They have been interfering with our research at the Old Light on a regular basis, for they harbor an interest in what we Sandpoint locals call "the Junk Beach". You see, goblins are ever so fond of salvaging useless items. You can find some of these green pests there after dawn, they're particularly fond of that place."

Shifting the conversation to a more joyful topic, the Varisian smiles as he accepts another mug of ale from the innkeeper.

"Maybe you would need directions? I would be happy to help you around town. We townspeople take great pride in the upcoming Swallowtail festival, visitors are most welcome!"

Hello everyone, Tektite here, sorry for the delay. I really had a hard time pinning a concept on this one. Happily, I know everyone here, though some of you would know as Jostrum, Leastrie, or Caradeum.

@Miana: I too have never played a suli, hence my choice to play one as well. Two sulis in Sandpoint? Do think it makes sense that we are siblings? I have no preference one way or the other, just the sheer coincidence for two of the same rare race to be in the same town on the same adventure, struck me as needing an explanation.

I plan on having something meaningful in Gameplay this afternoon, this week has been quite busy for me.

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

I'm busily wrapping up final combats and whatnots in a few other scenarios but I'll update you guys this morning some time. I plan on taking this first bit at the festival a little slow to give you time to RP and get to know each other anyways.

So we do get to play together Kufieno/Tektite/Jostrum :) Huzzah! As far as being sibling... that is an interesting possibility; I'm borrowing a lot of Tien elements to explain the class choice as well as starting equipment However, my background is mother (Kelesh human) left with Miana during her early childhood. Perhaps Kufieno is an older brother who stayed with father and empowered his bloodline (I'd assume one of the genie-based sorcerors for good ol' suli flavor :P)?

As far as the real reason I chose suli... well my build was actually based on aasimar for my PFS concept character; I'd even go Angel Blood, Angel Flesh, and Heavely Radiance along with a few monk feats. Not optimal, but sorta cool. The big trick will be convincing the GM to somehow let a set of Monk's Robes and a Ring of Ki Mastery become available at some point in the campaign (either as loot or for purchase). *hint hint* :P

I think draconic actually, as he was planning on going for Dragon Disciple.

I'm sure you'll get enough money eventually if it doesn't come up. It'll be a while though, those are expensive items.

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

It is likely that the first combat will break out in the next day or two just to warn everyone in case people are still making final tweaks to their characters. I'm giving everyone just a little more time to chat in the gameplay before I move to the next part.

@Miana: I left it sort of open, implying familiarity as I wasn't sure if the sibling thing was a go. We can always make it so.

Also, I wasn't sure if we all knew each other or not. Usually it seems everyone starts out in the same town, having lived there for a while. Considering the only has about 1200 residents, I didn't know who knew who.

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

For my other APs they have a shared google spreadsheet with primarily one person in charge but editable by everyone in case they want to look over it and claim something before it is sold. That has worked fairly well as long as someone keeps up on it. If you give me the link I can add it to the top of the page for easy access.

I'll read through your posts and make a small update this morning and hopefully we'll get to some action by tonight!

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Woo! First combat! The adventure is underway!

Does google maps work fine for everyone?

I have the pdf map pack for this AP but that doesn't include every map in the AP (seems odd to me but whatever). It has most of the important big maps and dungeons (and I can remove labels and such from those) but this first map is not included in the pdf so I had to steal it from google and couldn't find one without the labels. That problem shouldn't come up too often though; it's only the smaller minor maps that aren't included in the pdf.

By the way GM EF, I was reading "Faiths and Philosophies" yesterday and found that the Sandpoint pantheon was actually an eligible choice for a deity. Would you allow me to switch Desna for the Sandpoint Pantheon, which could be interesting as the various gods protecting the town might be called on occasions linked to the situation Lucian's in, please?

Ah, the third level of Thornkeep... my players are facing the BBEG at the moment, it's a bloody mess.

Don't forget, Kufieno is Jostrum.

As for Night March, no worries. I just put it out there in case Rissi wanted to do it from start to finish.

As far as Thornkeep...yeah, that last one was rough. I read somewhere that this level was brutal. I played in Lucian's first level run, but was in Miana's 2nd level and had to decline continuing with Lithrac.

Also, as well the EF's Pathfinder Lodge, there is the Frothing Alembic as well, if you want to recruit from it. Good, solid players and posters. As a matter of fact, EF stole the idea from me and I in turn, stole the idea from someone else!

<_< I did forget. Whoops.

Well, I was still sorta thinking of you... GM points for that, right?

Thornkeep seems to be every other level is quite difficult (assuming you play Dark Menagerie before Sanctum, more so just because the level ranges are more appropriate).
