Ok, I'm back from my travels! I think my absence just happened to correspond to GenCon, although I wasn't able to make it this year again. I might be back in Indiana around this time next year though.
Also, whoops! I got some of the rooms here mixed up, but no big deal really.
In the connected room you find only a few items the lamias left behind: three scrolls of resurrection, a scroll of commune, and a single enormous platinum key worth 2,500 gp.
You then rush down the hall and throw open the other doors. The stone walls of this chamber are stark and undecorated—even the floor is merely functional in appearance.
Guarding this room, or perhaps more accurately the room(s) beyond, is a creature vaguely humanoid in shape, a gaunt fiend with the face of a hideous fish and a body of lanky limbs and writhing tendrils.

Hey now! I don't think you can be holding a wand in one hand from your casting last round and a rod of absorption in the other since you need at least one free hand for casting. Let's see if it can break the SR from your scarab though:
