Leafy Leshy Cavalier Ire of the Storm Campaign

As your group is riding in longboats across the frigid sea to make your way to Trollheim, you have a moment of bitter cold where even smalltalk would have taken too much out of you so you instead, for a moment reflect back on signing up for this mission to the inhospitable northlands.

The meeting in Absalom with Drandle Dreng nearly a month ago was brief, as always. "I have a routine mission for you - though a dangerous routine mission," the old man whispered in the great hall in the Grand Lodge. Suffering from a cold and weak from lack of food and rest, the old venture was quite possibly the worst you'd ever seen him. Through wracking coughs he explained, "An ally of ours in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings - Rognvald Skagni - is writing a lengthy report on the state of government in the northern countries of Avistan. I received a letter from him just yesterday requesting several key documents from the vaults here to help him finish the report."

The old Venture-Captain patted a large, heavy looking chest next to him "These are the documents and I need you to board a ship north to deliver them to Skagni."

Dreng tried to stand at that point, but a fit of coughing sent him back into his seat. He gestured for a well-dressed impeccably kept man standing in the shadows of the room to approach and whispered raspy orders to him. The man picked up a small pouch and a large key and handed them both to the party. “Venture Captain Dreng is unwell, as you can see. He wished me to give you this key and this pouch of gold. The key opens the chest, and the gold will buy you passage and get you from the Linnorm coast to Trollheim, where Skagni resides. Whatever you do, do not let the chest out of your sight and do not, under any circumstances, allow it to be searched. These documents are for Mr. Skagni only. Are we understood?"

The servant, unusual for the society cut off any questions or attempts for clarification and simply indicated that the Venture-Captain needed to rest.

The longboats are just now pulling into Trollheim and you cannot wait to get off the frigid sea and to gain some protection from the biting winds that accompany such travel. Now to find Skagni's home and leave this place...

If you had any purchases to make before leaving the major metropolis in the temperate zone before headed to the arctic circle please go ahead and make those now before we proceed, I will wait for everyone to check in before proceeding. Also you are responsible for lugging around and protecting the chest of papers. It weighs about 100 pounds so just keep that in mind

A gnome comes in, she's got a Velociraptor under her bum. We probably can't help carry that. She looks around, hoping to see a big, strong party-mate.

"I will gladly accompany this box of papers back to my homeland!" says Haakon. The big Ulfen man picks up the box with very little effort.

Nearing Trollheim

Haakon has been getting less talkative the closer they get to Trollheim, but as he sees the docks his spirits seem to pick up.

"It is good to be coming home at last after spending so many months away. I hope this heavy box of papers is as important as we were told! I am a hero not just a simple courier!" He laughs out loud, the noise carrying across the waves.

Teric seems quite bored on the travel up to Trollheim. He tries to entice the crew into dicing or playing cards with him. Other times, he spins tales of his travels in Varasia and Osirion, though you have a hard time keeping track of what might be lies. As the weather turns frigid, the Varasian never seems to mind, even continuing to wear thin linen shirts out on the open decks of the ship.

"Oh, you never know how valuable a simple courier's job can be, Haakon. Besides, some of them can be quite skilled, getting their items away from prying eyes. I employ several men who you'd never know what kind of valuable items they have carried. Ivory, relics, even legal documents."

So, they didn't specifically say not to open the chest. Unless given a good argument against it, Teric would likely try to open it to see what they are bringing. We have the key, so unless there's a trap or a seal to break, there doesn't seem to be reason he can put things back how they were. But I wanted to bring this up OOC in case people have a problem with it.

A tall Ulfen male steps into the venture captains briefing room swigging from a flask. He wears a pure white fur pelt around his shoulders which matches his Snow White hair, unlike most of his culture, he is clean shaven.

"Da! A trip back home! This is a perfect chance to see the family, eh My future King?" Who cares for the circumstances of our return right now, we have a few fine tales to spin"

Happy for Haakon to heft the box he offers his brawny arm to the rest of the pathfinders, clasping their wrist in a warrior's grasp should they accept before the Ulfen leaves the room uncaring that the briefing was cut short, the light of adventure in his eyes.

On their travels

Ulfric spends most most of his time on ship helping out the crew and drinking with them. At night he spins grand tales of mighty Ulfen war heroes and the dreaded Vikings. Occasionally he will tell tales of Haakon, future king of Trollheim and their adventures with the society. With land back in sight and his hair whipped by the winter winds Ulfric lets out a laugh and slaps Haakon on the shoulder.

"Home sweet home! I wonder how Elisa fairs?"

The erstwhile group after they make shore and Ulfric and Haakon carry the chest with them to the meeting point when the house they come across was...not what they expected. At one point in time it was probably a fine and sturdy home built of solid stone but now it lay in ruins.

The Northern wall has been totally destroyed and western wall didn't fare much better. It seems to have been deliberately destroyed - and recently.

As they reach the house of their contact, ready to finish their appointed courier task, Ulfric had been in high spirits, nodding greeting to old friends and promising a tale or two once they were finished. With the ruin in sight, Ulfric drops his side of the chest with a shocked look on his face.

"Gorum's balls! We should investigate, yes friends?"

He also starts a soft chant in his native tongue, before sweeping out with his hand and peering intently at the wreckage.

As Ulfric gets closer he can see that most of the house is covered in black char and soot and the wall written in dark red large face Taldane print the phrase:

"Pathfinders go home!"

As he detects magic from his current vantage point about 60 feet away from Skagni's ruined home he cannot detect anything magical, that said the range of the spell is only 60 feet.

"Take care with that chest Ulfric. We have been tasked with... oh!" Haakon spots the damaged building and trails off whatever friendly insult he was about to hurl at Ulfric.

He stops to place his side of the chest down carefully while looking around to see what or who has caused all the damage.

Ulfric looks focused, a far cry from his usual carefree attitude and mischievous air.

"Da, there is no magic in the path towards the ruins, but I would need to get close to tell you any clearer. We are home, I like it Haakon!"

He moves closer to the house, readying his heavy wooden shield on his arm, using his free hand to gesture he casts the same cantrip again, aiming to catch some of the ruins within it.

Lucrezia is quite obviously NOT built for the cold, she uses her Wand of Endure Elements whenever she needs to.

Oh, do you think that might still be warm? She moves toward the house, looking around as she goes forward.

"We most certainly need to find out who might have done this. Skagni might have gone into hiding." He approaches the burned ruins, casting his own detection spell to find any clues.

Teric continues to cast detect magic as he enters the ruined home and he detects, by chance, at the edge of his spell's radius, some faint magic in several instance. Abjuration and conjuration, not very strong and about 4 instances of each coming from the woods behind the home.

Entering the ruined home, Ulfric puts down his hold on the chest with a lot more care this time. He sighs deeply and decides to examine it, for any clues of what may have happened here. Detecting the magical emanations from the woods he points them out to his comrades.

"Magic from the woods? Could be worth investigating, however what shall we do with our burden?"

His words bubble with barely concealed anger at the blatant destruction carried out.

Haakon makes sure his shield is accessible on his back and tests the weight of the chest again before picking it back up.

"If your Skaldic magics detect something then we should certainly investigate. Lead on old friend!"

Stepping towards the bandits, Ulfric unhooks his battleaxe from his belt and sets his shield upon his arm, staring them down. With a bellow he begins telling a tale of the Trollheim heroes, the Black Ravens in an aide to bolster his allies.

Raging Song: +2 Str/Con and Will Saves, -1AC. Also grants the lesser Spirit totem Rage power. A swift action attack which uses your BAB + Ulfric's CHA mod (3) and does D4 + 3 Negative energy damage

Haakon accepts the raging song

Haakon grabs his spiked shield from his back as he moves towards the nearest enemy.

"Come and fight me you cowards!" he shouts as he aims a kick at his enemy.

Lucrezia will dismount and will direct Plunder to attack the red bandit with a Talon: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 and if it hits he'll deal 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 points of damage.

Lucrezia will likewise shoot at that one 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 and if she hits will deal 1d4 ⇒ 2 points of damage.

Teric is startled by the sudden appearance of the halfling, nearly sending deadly magic his way. "Well, if Dreng sent you then I suggest you help us with these thugs! That way you can prove you're with us." Teric wrestles control of a divine aspect and uses it to grant a boon to the group.

The Ice-white haired Ulfen keeps up his grand tale of Ulfen bravery and the Raven's victories in a grand ambush. Stepping towards the two thugs attacking the raptor, Ulfric let's his tale take hold and feel's the rage of his ancestors building up in his breast. He swings out with his battleaxe.
