”Traitorous woman, you will not survive this day!” yells Haakon. His rage is fuelled by anger, pain and Ulfric’s words.

Ulfric's spirits also strike at the woman

and indeed she does not survive this day, as Haakon's shield bashes through her skull and kills her dead.
The single remaining standing Shadow Lodge agent surrenders, hoping not to be on the recieving end of a repeat performance.
The Snowmasks gather their injured and thank you for helping to rid their land of these shadow lodgers.
One of them looks over expectantly at the woman at Haakon's feet and especially the fiery red axe that drops from her hands.
Clearly they seem to be looking to see what the warrior will do.

Ulfrice ceases his battle song and looks at Haakon with a medics eye, witnessing the blood pouring from his wounds. Darting forwards the Skald calls upon Gorum's grace to heal the mighty champion.
Cure Mod: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 7) + 5 = 15
He will also offering his magic to heal those of the Snowmask Clan that require it and are not too far gone. Noticing the Snowmask's expectant looks Ulfric's eyes dart to the flaming Axe, his hand unconsciously tightening on his Battleaxe.
Sense Motive, are they expecting Haakon to take the Axe?: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
"Be careful brother, that prize is grand yet the Snowmask may see it as their heritage. I shall tell you of their intentions He whispers to Haakon as he heals their wounds.
I have 5 Cure lights to make the warriors stable if needed and am willing to use my Wand

It seems they don't want to cross Haakon in case he decides the axe is his, but that they really want that axe.

"The spoils of war are yours, Jarl." He looks at the Snowmask Clan. "Perhaps you can rebuild what Ranulf left, both the keep and the people. Care to be known as the Huscarl King?"

Haakon looks at the axe at his feet but hesitates to pick it up.
"Talk to the clan leader in their own tongue, Ulfric. I am not without honour, as you know. If their claim is justified then i will gladly allow them their prize. If they cannot convince you then they will also not convince me."
Don't forget my wand too Ulfric - it's there if you need to use it.

Ulfric turns to the assembled Snowmask warriors, searching out their leader here and switching to the Kellid tongue in recognition of their ease with the language.
"My Jarl wishes you to stake your claim to this weapon. Our stake is blood, as we are Ulfen just as the Huscarl King. Our stake is also battle, My Jarl has cut down the fiend who would steal it and in doing so her spoils are his.
If you have a claim, state it now and we shall consider this."
Turning to Teric he laughs, "Yes my Jarl, the Huscarl King sounds like a grand title no? Yet Trollheim awaits without a true leader and that is our task here. Mayhaps you wish to become King Teric? You would make a fine one and I would gladly serve you as Emissary along with my brother!"

"We have told you our Clan's history. Our people are dedicated to the defense and honor of the Huscarl King. Jedrek's shard is sacred to us. To take it would be a grave dishonor to us. Our people have kept vigil over it for decades." The Clansman will say quietly.

Teric shakes his head. "No Kingship for me. Too many obligations and needs that are less than profitable. Besides, it's way too cold up here for my kind." You know that despite his words, Teric seems to have no problem standing in a thin Varasian shirt in this cold weather.
"But if the Snowmask owe a debt to us, then perhaps I can negotiate some trade deals for them. I know plenty of merchants who would be willing to brave the weather to sell them wares."

"My own honour says this weapon is theirs, not only to use but also to guard against others taking it to commit foul deeds. What say the rest of you? We are all equals in this tale and have each played our part. I think a vote may be the best option here, eh friends?" Haakon smiles at everyone as they gather around the blade to make their decision.

![]() |

Ulfric shakes his head unwilling to argue against his Jarl but knowing he has to have his say in this or regret the decision with not knowing. He turns to the Snowmask and keeps his voice level, knowing his words may cause some heat.
"What is to say that you guard this well? Thieves have come here and already they had stolen the Axe and broke into our Kindmans tomb. I fear you may be lax guardians and feel the Axe may be better wielded by a champion in honour of both out peoples!"

![]() |

"Then perhaps you and the Jarl shall become Champions of the Snowmask tribe. Teach them what they need to defend themselves and lead them to greater glory. The axe shall remain with the tribe, but to those who defend the tribe, the axe could be of great use."
Teric doesn't care one way or another. If he didn't think you might object for honor, he might claim the axe to sell to the highest bidder.

Haakon wouldn't force his opinion. He's certainly adventured with you all long enough to trust your opinion. Essentially he knows he's not the best in social situations even if he'll never admit it.

I am seeing two votes for take the axe and one for leaving it here. So I am about to proceed with that decision (taking it). Is that okay?

![]() |

Fine by me, I do kinda want the Axe...

![]() |

Well there has been far more than enough time for Bolger and Lucrezia to weigh in so, fine by me. Believe it or not there is shockingly little consequence for this act on the chronicle itself and this is such an old adventure I doubt my reporting of this will make much of a difference.
Taking the advice of Ulfric and Teric, Haakon takes up Jedrek's shard and tries to leave Snowmask territory.
The trip back is harrowing - the Snowmasks harass you the entire way but you manage to stave them off and return with the axe in hand.
When you return to Ragnvald Skagni he is furious with you for destroying a part of history and for razing his contacts with the Snowmask clan. He threatens to cut all ties with the Pathfinder Society and to help blacklist the society in the North for the blatant disregard of culture you displayed.
However, the artifact now belongs to the Pathfinder Society and it may find itself lent to a grand purpose some day in the future...
And that's a wrap folks. I will do chronicles as soon as I can.

Ulfric shakes his head at Ragnvald and turns his back on his kinsman, fury evident in his voice as he berates the historian.
"The shard had been excavated from the Snowmask territory due to their own lax actions, they were unfit guardians! You too Kinsman, you should have kept better guardianship over the knowledge. The Shadow Lodge do not have the Shard and that is all that counts!"
Turning to his Jarl and newest companions he slaps them heartily on the shoulder and embraces them in a bone crushing hug.
"I shall never forget our time together here my friends! You are all as Kin to me and if you ever have need of me simply call and I shall be there!"
Wow! What an experience cheers everyone! Was a great game!

Huh, I totally forgot about Ragnvald Skagni. Promoting trade might have been a good thing for Teric. Oh well. We can spin this differently.
The Varisian simply shakes his head and tsks Ragnvald. "Perhaps, Ragnvald, next time you decide to exploit undiscovered relics, you will consider Karela's investments in the area already. He and the Trade Prince do not like to be made fools of. And the Shadow Lodge is far from the worst thing out in the world."
He begins to speak very carefully, enunciating each word precisely. "Now, our relationship need not turn sour. The next time you have a venture to pursue, I will be happy to ensure it finds favor in the Exchange. For a small fee, of course." He smiles at the man.
