"Don't just stand there Hugo! The thing in that smoke is probably an undead monstrosity. You may not have stout wood like myself, but steel will do a little harm to it." I think.

![]() |

As you look at Hugo, you can easily see his only possessions are some hides, a stick (wand CLW), a big wooden club.
He shrugs and steps toward the smoke, swinging away.

"Felt like that connected with something, Mr. Hugo. Give it another try!"

Hugo smiles, still not quite understanding the game, and swings again into the smoke.

![]() |

Magic missile is a great spell

![]() |

Capone seems even weaker than before. "Everything feels so heavy now. Would anyone mind carrying something for me?"
With the reduced strength, Capone is now encumbered, which would make him 15 ft. speed instead of 20. That's bad. Anyone mind carrying his mace, backpack, and waterskin for him? He won't have a weapon but he doesn't really use it much anyway... would weigh a total of 4 lbs.

![]() |

Hugo searches around finds two objects in the fire - one is a scorched black key.
The other is an oddly clean dagger, which Daereon notices was found the same spot he observed magic from earlier.

![]() |

Deluge has about 10 spare pounds. A breastplate is heavy and he only has a 10 strength!
"Well, I could tote a little bit. Or we could take it outside and leave it at camp. I have to warn you though, my goat gets into everything so you may want to hang your stuff from a tree."

![]() |

Yup, its a +1 Dagger Meran. The key, however, is just a key

![]() |

"Well, I could use an enchanted dagger in case the stout wood doesn't work against... whatever. Never ran into anything like that before, but I hear they exist."

![]() |

"Hugo carry small one's pack. Yep, 'no problems'?" That last part is said as a half question, as Hugo smiles. He is still trying to learn slang.
He bites the key, then holds it up for the others, not too sure what it is. The dagger, though, he understands, and if no one asks for it, he shoves it in his belt.

![]() |

deluge lets Hugo keep the dagger without comment.

![]() |

Where to now? he asks.
Do we need to rest to help recover the STR damage?

![]() |

Hugo is good either way, as he hasn't used any resources to require rest yet. But if others are down, he is happy to stand guard while they rest.

![]() |

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Capone doesn't really use strength for stuff he does.

![]() |

Deluge takes a look around for anything in this room that might need a key.
"Back the way we came, I guess. We got a key and should probably find the door it fits to..."
Deluges belly rumbles at this point.
"...or we could take a quick lunch break and go on."
In either case after searching and, assumedly, finding nothing, we head back to the beetle room and see if its mood has changed. Was there any other door or passage from the beetle room?

![]() |

There are no other doors on the side of the building you are on currently.
There is another door coming from the hallway but curiously, the door won't budge.
There is only one unopened door so far - the other room leading out of the first room.

![]() |

Agreed

![]() |

The gang circles back around to the beginning and opens the door to the other side of the tomb.
In the center of this room is a large pool of clear water, fed by a fountain on the wall above it.At the bottom of the pool are about 100 keys, all nearly identical. The fountain has a stone statue of a weeping maiden holding the slain body of Kassen, but his head has been broken off and is nowhere to be seen. A voice booms out from the darkness, saying, “Magic is the key.” The voice slowly fades, leaving a dreadful silence.
There are two doors to the south - one blackened and one painted blue.

![]() |

"As a puzzle, that one is underwhelming. I guess this was SUPPOSED to be for wet behind the ears villagers, but even so."
Deluge casts Detect Magic and looks for a magical key.

![]() |

Sure enough, magic radiates from inside the pool.
It could be used to pinpoint the key of course....but there is one issue. The bottom of the pool is pretty dark.
You would need to swim to the bottom of the pool with the spell cast to be able to grab it - the pool as it turns out is surprisingly deep - 30 foot deep.

![]() |

"I think I can illuminate it down there."
Capone casts Light on a pebble and tosses it in the water.

![]() |

Oh woops, the board ate this post and I didnt notice til now
Ok Capone drops the light down there which makes it possible to see which key is radiating.
It is still going to take someone capable of swimming 30 feet dow nand 30 feet up to retrieve the proper key.
If its anyone other than those who can cast detect magic, then one of you has to make a DC15 Int check.

![]() |

Having spotted the magical key, Deluge now casts detect poison to see if the pool has poison in it.
"I am a fairly decent swimmer, though much better at staying on the surface than diving."
He pats his wide girth as he says this, as if the added padding explains everything. After taking his armor and most of his clothing off, he will dive in after the key, provided no poison.
swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

![]() |

Deluge manages to fish the key out of the pool with limited problems.
There are now just two doors leading south.
One blackened and charred and one painted blue.

![]() |

"Blackend and charred or blue? I wonder? Let's go for the scary door first. The Blackened one." Meran moves up to it and takes a look.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

![]() |

Its not trapped my any mechanical traps and the door is locked.
There is a visible keyhole in the door.

![]() |

Deluge hands the key over to Meran. "Here, try this."

![]() |

"Let's try the "magic"key in this door first. Maybe the dark key goes in the burnt door." Meran takes the key and tries to unlock the door.

![]() |

The key found in the water does not fit.
The one found in the fire pit however, does.
It opens up into a long corridor
This long corridor is flanked by a row of human statues, set into alcoves on each side. The statues look like Kassen, and each one holds a longsword out in front of it. The blades of roughly half the statues are wrapped in leather padding.

![]() |

Deluge saunters forward and gives the first statue on the left a prod with his club, his small wooden shield help up in front of him. .
"Let's see if it responds to a little poke before we head any further."

![]() |

Capone waits behind and observes what happens.
