Cedric Rydell |
Cedric moves up behind Maria, leveling a crossbow at the one on the far side of the room. He speaks to Maria, I've got your back, and so does the light. Before letting out a small prayer. In a flash, there is a golden hued light that surrounds everyone
Casting Bless, because I wanna cast a spellz, and it may be useful.
Phaedra Alexandria Covington |
"At least this is something I can hit."
Phaedra moves up to attack a stirge with her rapier.
melee attack yellow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Lazar Dobrescu |
Feeling the divine power of the Light bathing him, Lazar tries to eliminate one of the creatures before they engage him.
Longbow vs Green, Point Blank 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 1 = 20
Damage 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11
Maria Vaduva |
The grim woman nods at her companions after they dispatch the stirges. "Well that worked."
Maria brings out her hooded lantern and lights it, taking a look around. She also attempts to seek out any evil on this floor.
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar shows his concern. "I would stay, but I don't want to leave Kendra alone. Those people weren't nice to her, and I fear for her integrity."
Maria Vaduva |
Maria holds up a fist. In a whisper, she states "Hold. There is a horrible presence in this room."
She stands outside the door to T7, greatsword out. She grins at the others
"One more before we call it a night?"
She throws open the door and charges in.
Gadren |
Gadren nods before reaching forward and casting light on Maria's greatsword. "One more." He keeps his own weapon in hand ready to support Maria.
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar knocks an arrow. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
Cedric Rydell |
Cedric follows behind. Crossbow still in his hands. Well, let us bring it out.
GM_DBH |
T7. Father Charlatan’s Cell.
Although this cell is rather spacious, it contains no concessions to comfort. A skeletal body dressed in the rotting remains of a prisoner’s robe lies slumped against the eastern wall, wrapped in numerous chains on which are affixed numerous weights emblazoned with several different holy symbols.
Bursting into the cell you can see a ghostly figure of a man wrapped in chains, with holy symbols weighting them.
As the door opens the figure looks up and smirks greasily, moving towards Lazar hand outstretched.
The room while chilly in the night air seems to be empty?
Maria Vaduva |
Maria calls out "Lazar! Watch out! Ghost moving toward you!" Knowing it is probably futile, Maria swings her sword at the strange figure. At least I can try to distract it... Calling on the power of her god, Maria's sword glows with Gadren's light as she whirls it through the apparition.
Smite evil power attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Dam: 2d6 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4) + 9 + 4 = 21Assuming he counts as evil undead and I'm even remotely capable of damaging him.
GM_DBH |
From the d20PFSRD.
Does smite evil bypass the defenses of the incorporeal special quality?
Smite is not an effect on the weapon, it is an effect on the paladin. The weapon still needs to be magic to harm the incorporeal creature, and even a magic weapon still only deals half damage against it.
Maria, glowing with the light of her God swings powerfully, but futilely, for a brief second you all see a flicker of a smirking man in prison robes slinking forward as her great sword passes through him.
What are you doing now?
Gadren |
"Mishes prepare to strike if it reveals itself! Cedric prepare to release a burst of positive energy, it is anathema to the undead as you have shown already!"
Lazar Dobrescu |
As Maria seems the only one capable of seeing the ghost, Lazar reaches for her big sword and inchants its blade with the blessing of the Lady, then moves out of reach... he hopes.
Touch of the Spirit World: For one round, touched weapon (Maria's greatsword) deals half damage to incorporeals (full damage if magical).
Mishtes |
Round 1
Mishtes drops his scimiar, and grabs Lopper's Axe instead (+1 magic weapon) and then joins Maria in the cell.
He tries swinging Lopper's axe where Maria was swinging her greatsword, in the hopes of hittng the ghost he can't see:
Lopper's Axe: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
miss chance (1-50%): 1d100 ⇒ 90
@ GM_DBH: not using bloodrage this round
Phaedra Alexandria Covington |
"Do we know who's ghost it is?"
Maria Vaduva |
Maria growls out while swinging. "Lots of holy symbols. Visible and otherwise."
Not sure if I can swing again yet but I'll happily take advantage of Lazar's help at the first opportunity.
Smite evil attack 2 if applicable: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Dam: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 5) + 13 = 20
Cedric Rydell |
Cedric Calls upon the light of hope again, radiating holy energy out from him since he could not see the ghost, but trusted his allies conviction.
channel: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 dc 17 save for half, they don't get to add channel resistance 3 channels used.
GM_DBH |
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Despite being a Haunt this undead is not immune to Channel and takes the full amount.
Maria Crit confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (4, 4) + 13 = 21
Staggered by Cedric's holy light the Haunt is helpless to avoid Maria's Smite evil, she destroys the thing with a perfect strike.
As the figure begins to fade it stops, a look of dread on it's face as another presence fills the room for a moment. "You will not return!" is heard by all of you as Vesorianna Hawkran fufills her purpose with grim satisfaction.
You find that the tangled chains of the holy symbols used by Father Charlatan now are easily separated, each holy symbol is now usable as a standard holy symbol.
Congratulations. Father Charlatan is no more. The first of the five Haunts is defeated. He was only visible to someone using Detect chaos, detect evil, or detect undead.
What are you doing now.
Maria Vaduva |
Maria smiles broadly. She puts a hand on Lazar's shoulder. "Thank you. Now let's make sure Kendra is safe."
Head back to town? I think we can loot the 2nd floor tomorrow when there's light and it should be fast.
Gadren |
"Agreed, we've made some good progress today."
Once they are off the grounds of the prison he speaks up. "I've prepared a spell in case we have any night time intruders. I can have one of us be up and alert for the night. As long as they aren't disturbed they'll be well rested in the morning. But if they are disturbed at least they are up with their equipment ready while the rest of us get ready."
Maria Vaduva |
Maria nods. "Sounds useful."
Maria will keep watch if no one else wants to. She'd love to never have to sleep again and be vigilante all the time.
Lazar Dobrescu |
"Just a very short second..." Lazar doesn't want to leave anything important just here, as the people who frequent the place and have been scribing the runes downstairs could come while they sleep and ruin the party's job. He glances quickly around, just checking the obvious, v helped by a well placed Detect Magic.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Cedric Rydell |
Cedric will gather the holy symbols to take back with them. Hopefully, the future use of these symbols will be proper. Let us return for the day. Perhaps, stopping in town.
Lazar Dobrescu |
Dissapointed, Lazar turns back, head low. "Yeah, let's get going." When he thinks of Kendra, some light comes back to his soul.
GM_DBH |
You leave the building of Harrowstone, feeling almost lighter as you step outside into the cool night air. A constant pressure on your sense has been lifted for now.
The trip back is now down in full dark, the lights of Ravengro come as some relief, even though your journey was undisturbed.
{b]Kendra[/b] is relieved and happy with your return. "Have you found anything?" She asks after having ensured that none of you are harmed in anyway.
What are you doing now?
Lazar Dobrescu |
"Yeah, some guys are playing the fools and using the place as a giant houija." Lazar's explanation is scarce, but he knows any of the others will make a much better narrator. He is in some hurry to ask Kendra about the townsfolks, though. "Anything new around here? Did you get molested or anything?"
Gadren |
"We've dealt with several undead already. The Professor's last mission will be completed but it will take time."
"I have a spell prepared that will let one of us stay alert and rested through the night in case anyone pops in."
Keep Watch on Maria? I might scribe a spell if there's time which I think there will be.
Maria Vaduva |
Either way! Maria would love to be able to keep watch but ooc I'm fine with whichever choice.
Maria nods at Lazar's and Gadren's explanations. "Don't worry, Kendra. We'll serve justice on those responsible. Did anything happen today?"
As the others get ready for bed, Maria asks each of them to keep needed items close at hand. Gadren's sword and component pouch, Cedric's holy symbol, Lazar's bow, and Phaedra's various weapons and knowledgeable brain.
Mishtes |
"It is a start, that's true" Mishtes offers once back at Kendra's house.
He then tends to Daisy (his donkey) before turning in for the night.
Will: 1d20 ⇒ 14
That's cutting it a bit close...
GM_DBH |
Kendra has had a meal ready for you, it takes a few minutes to get it warmed. While doing this she tells you of her day, it's been quiet for her. She's spent it mostly reading. She did go and do some shopping, but the people she met were more interested in the strange group staying with her than causing trouble.
The night passes quietly, with no disturbances.
What are you doing now?
Gadren |
"I think we should head back and clear the upper floor. Lots of doors to the west we should check out first I think."
The T4 areas. Was there any time for crafting or scribing the previous evening?
Gadren |
Gadren spends much of the rest of the evening trying to unlock the arcane secrets of the scrolls.

"We should try and divine the curse of another one of the items. I have to admit I am curious about that spellbook."
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar agrees with Gadren. "We'll have to look carefully, though. Yesterday, we fought one of the five guys (burgers and fries :p) and we didn't notice until after we defeated him." He finished his breakfast and checks his backpack.
Maria Vaduva |
Maria nods. "Yes. I don't know about the places you're from but evil is very strong here in my land... I agree we should finish the top floor quickly."
After breakfast, Maria prepares her gear. She then has a small side conversation with Kendra.
"Kendra, remember, if anything dangerous happens, run. If you can't run, fight like hell. No hesitation."
With that, she heads to the front door and calls over her shoulder "I'll wait outside."
Though her manner isn't particularly friendly, the fact that she leaves Kendra alone in the house with these people shows she's come to have a measure of faith in them during the day in Harrowstone.
Cedric Rydell |
Cedric spends a lot of timing talking with Kendra, and even makes them, and anyone else that desires it, tea. He thanks Kendra for the food as well. He also uses his open spell slot to create a flask of holy water, his eyes glowing a golden hue as he blesses the water. He hands it to Lazar. Here, in case we run into other ghosts, this should help you.
Cedric wakes up at first light with a stretch, and a prayer to the goodly gods. Before heading downstairs to help prepare a breakfast with hot tea. Greeting everyone with a smile.
Good morning everyone. He says in a high spirited voice before looking to Maria, catching her before she leaves.
No need to be some gloom. Yesterday was a great success. Before long, the evil and dark will be snuffed out of that prison. As I said, even a small candle, can penetrate the dark. Tea?

Open-1
GM, would coating arrows with holy water let them deal damage to ghosts? Or should we just stick to throwing the flasks of water at them?
Maria Vaduva |
Maria pauses in the doorway at Cedric's words. A small, wry smile crosses her face and she shakes her head at the strange happy man.
"I'm thirsty for something other than tea. What we did yesterday was scratch the surface. And it wasn't a little candle that did that yesterday. It was the combined strength of steel and magic."
She nods with a measure of respect to the young optimist, having seen him back up his words with power. "Enjoy your tea. But I can't."
