Gadren |
Gadren raises a hand keeping his sword ready. Unsure if the simple steel would have much affect gouts of flame are spewed forth from his his hand over the specter.
Concentration to cast defensively: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Burning Hands. DC 15 Reflex to Half: 3d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 1) = 6
Maria Vaduva |
Maria grins, holding her glowing sword enhanced by Lazar and swings fiercely at the apparition
Power attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 3) + 9 = 17
but her eagerness betrays her as she swings off balance.
Not sure if I'll get one or two attacks off with touch of the spirit world but that looks like a miss if I've ever seen one. Already smote evil on another haunt once today. Will be able to do it multiple times per day soon.
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lasts for 2 turns, but I'm not sure anymore if tearing the page substituted or followed the use of the ability. I still have a pair of uses, anyway.
Phaedra Alexandria Covington |
Phaedra can take the book and tear out a page so Lazar can cast on Maria. She's not too useful at the moment anyway.
GM_DBH |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
The Splatterman shudders as the page is torn from his book, then is lightly touched by Gadren's flames, he shifts back and begins the gestures of a spell as Maria's blade just misses him.
Empowered Summon Monster II.
Whatever the spell is it's taking some time.
Everyone else is able to act now.
Lazar Dobrescu |
Leaving the book to Phaedra, Lazar concentrates once more on Maria's sword.
TotSW for 2 more turns
Maria Vaduva |
Maria sets her face with grim determination and steps forward to attempt to interrupt the spell.
Power attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Dam: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 3) + 9 = 18
Mishtes |
Round 1
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 … oh well
Mishtes enters another rage and attacks Splatterman this time:
scimitar (main hand, twf): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
to confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
extra damage, if confirmed: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
(critical: 18-20/x2)
lopper's axe (off hand, twf): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
(+1 handaxe)
GM_DBH |
Mishtes performs a perfect strike, only to see his scimitar pass through the ghost harmlessly. This throughs off his strike with the handaxe enough to miss.
Maria her weapon enchanted strikes truly, her blade cutting deep into the undead.
Phaedra tears another spell from the book. Drawing a howl of both pain and despair from the Splatterman.
Book: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Cedric moves to where his channel can reach and calls upon his god again.
Channel: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 2) + 5 = 13
Will save Splatterman: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Concentration vs DC33: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Savaged by the parties attacks the Splatterman does not get his spell off successfully.
As Maria has gone it's Gadren's action.
Gadren |
Gadren can't quite make out the spell but manages to get a minor one of his own off. "We'll be sending you to a much grimmer prison for eternity!"
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
GM_DBH |
Gadren's spell hits the Ghost, which responds by slipping back in a 5' step and blasting Lazar with a maximised Magic missile spell.
4 bolts of arcane energy slam into Lazar for 20 points of damage.
The party may now act. Gadren and Maria's actions come after the others though.
Gadren |
Gadren uses the cantrip again hitting the specter right between the eyes. He quickly takes out his potion of cure light wounds and holds it in his hand offering it to Lazar.
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Acid Splash Confirmation Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage if Confirmed: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
@Lazar just in case you burn through your cure spells... which with his damage output you may!
Maria Vaduva |
Maria steps up, front and center with the ghost, looking to end his attacks.
Last touch of the spirit world power attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Dam: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 4) + 9 = 15
But she can't quite manage to land her blows. Frustrated, she calls out "Mishtes, come flank him with me!"
Out of touch of the spirit world now. If necessary, I'll try laying hands on this fellow.
Cedric Rydell |
Cedric runs up to Maria, resting his hand on her blade and gives a nod. As before the blade glows with a soft golden hue.
casting magic weapon on Maria's sword. Last cast of that today. Also, I'm sorry, I thought I made a post here about my leave.
Maria Vaduva |
I saw a post in discussion about it. Hope things are going well now!
Maria grins her thanks at Cedric and raises her sword high for the next blow.
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar steps back from the impact. "Ugh!"
Feeling he can't endure another discharge, he steps back and uses a curative blessing, leaving his friends to end the Splatterman's.
"It's okay for now, thank you. Focus yourselves on finishing him" he says to Garden.
CLW: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Mishtes |
Round 2
Mishtes drops his scimitar, realizing it's useless against splatterman, and then hold's Lopper's axe in his main hand and moves in to attack the ghost again.
lopper's axe: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
(+1 handaxe)
@ GM_DBH: if I don't have the time to do all that and attack, Mishtes will just make an off-handed attack v. Splatterman at +8 instead of +10 to hit.
Phaedra Alexandria Covington |
Phaedra will tear out another page from the Splatterman's book....
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
GM_DBH |
The Splatterman is pressed on all sides and unable to slip away, so he reaches out with one spectral hand to harm Cedric
Corrupting touch vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 6, 2, 5) = 22
Fort save DC17 for half damage Cedric.
The party may now act.
GM_DBH |
Even as the Splatterman's hand wounds Cedric he dies as a bellow from Mishtes "Die and stay dead this time, damn you!" marks the Lopper's axe cutting him down.
Vesorianna's voice thunders through the dank halls "You shall not return!" and the last of the five spirits is ended.
At the bottom of the flooded oubliette you find the items stolen from Warden Hawkran.
Loot.
Longsword +1 Keen,
Mithral dagger +1,
A ring of protection +1.
Any last things you need to do?
And you can all level up to 4th.
Maria Vaduva |
Maria grins with pleasure at seeing the apparition disappear. She nods to Cedric, hefting her weapon. "Thanks! I think I'm getting the hang of that. I'll pray to Iomedae to see if I can do that too." Then she turns back to the loot. "Who wants what here? I don't have much use for any of this save the ring. But maybe someone else could use it ever more. Right now, I say it's time to work on the iron maiden. Will someone keep an eye on me? Wouldn't want that thing to try at my mind again." Maria will try to haul the maiden to the shaft then use her block and tackle to raise it to the first floor. She's willing to spend a very long time lugging it outside then will come back with a borrowed cart.
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar agrees with Maria, and tries to help, but adds "I would like to check on Vesorianna before we move out. It's been a long wait for her final rest, wouldn't hurt to check."
Cedric Rydell |
fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Cedric us caught off guard at the ferocity of the attack and kneels in pain as color is seemed to be drained from him. As the spectre falls, he clumsily stands and calls upon the light further for himself and the others
channel: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 4) + 5 = 11
channel: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 4) + 5 = 15
Mishtes |
After catching his breath, Mishtes looks at the loot found with Splatterman.
"If nobody minds, I fancy this fine looking sword", he says pointing to the +1 (Keen) longsword.
Mishtes will also lend a hand to help Maria get rid of the Iron Maiden and help someone put the warden's remains to a proper resting place too.
Gadren |
"I had my eye on it but you'll get a bit more use out of it Mishtes. I think checking on Vesorianna is a good idea before departing for the night." The surprisingly robust wizard helps move the Iron Maiden.
Phaedra Alexandria Covington |
Phaedra is in agreement to check on Vesorianna before they leave and will also lend her assistance in hauling out the Iron Maiden to be melted down.
Lazar Dobrescu |
"That we did, ma'am." says Lazar when Mishtes presents the bag.
GM_DBH |
Vesorianna takes the badge reverently, somehow able to hold it even in her ghostly hands. "It is a symbol, a symbol of authority. My husband once held full command of Harrowstone, and now I do."
She raises the badge high and her voice echoes through the entire prison. "By my authority I say No More!"
A wave of lights burst from Vesorianna and the badge, it washes over you, leaving you feeling refreshed and somehow clean. The light doesn't end with you, it travels through the walls until the entire prison is washed in it.
She looks at you all and smiles as she fades away. "Thank you." The badge drops to the ground with a clatter as she is gone.
With the badge of the warden in her hand Vesorianna had total authority over Harrowstone, she used this to cleanse it of all forms of undead. The place is now just an empty, building with nothing in it to endanger the nearby village.
The badge continues to glow softly from then on, and functions as a Rod of lesser ectoplasmic metamagic.
You can now return to Ravengro and report back to Kendra
Maria Vaduva |
Maria picks up the badge. "Huh. Could one of you use this?" She looks mostly at Gadren.
"Guess we should head back."
GM, any thoughts on the possibility of trading a +1 keen longsword for a +1 keen falchion? Perhaps not in Ravengro but maybe in a bigger city with some diplomacy checks?
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar feels the relief, enjoying once more having done his job proper. "We should check on Kendra. I didn't like some looks she received from the locals."
Gadren |
"Agreed but as for Maria's question I think longterm it should be someone who is staying in the area. The building might one day serve a better purpose than languishing as it has now things have improved."
GM_DBH |
Arriving back in the village you find Kendra awaiting you, she anxiously asks after your health, and after your progress. There have been a number of minor disturbances in Ravengro while you've been away.
Incidents which can only be put down to wicked undead.
"Then, only an hour or so past we saw a bright light shining over Harrowstone. Has something happened?"
What are you doing now?
Sorry, couldn't get on yesterday, whenever I has the free time to try the board was down.
Maria Vaduva |
"Yes!" Maria actually laughs a clear, sparkling laugh. "The place has been purged!" She grows serious again when she hears of the disturbances. "Sounds like undead in the rest of the town? That's not minor..." Maria wants to hear more about these disturbances.
Phaedra Alexandria Covington |
"Are the disturbances still ongoing? Has anyone been dealing with them?"
Lazar Dobrescu |
"The Lady would be glad if we did. But we could have a tasty dinner and a well deserved rest before."
GM_DBH |
Though you search carefully there is nothing to be found in Ravengro, in fact after a quiet nights rest the village is reporting nothing but peace everywhere?
Gibs Hephenus the surly old man who tried to stop Professor Lorrimor from being interred in the graveyard comes forward to confess it was him painting the bloody letters on the Harrowstone monument. "It were a voice in my dreams, every night telling me to put another letter up. I couldn't speak of it, or even remember it clear during the day, but every night it would bite at me over an over until one morning another chicken would be dead and another letter was up there!" He shudders, looking pale and frightened. "But last night there was nothing, the voice is gone! Whatever you did has ended the ghosts."
With Gibs testimony, and the end of the little signs of evil spirits infesting their village, the residents get together and gift the party with 3000gp as a reward for ending the danger.
All that is left for you to to honor the Professor's last wish and deliver his books to Lepidstadt.
What are you doing now?
After three attempts to post this last Sunday it finally goes up!
Lazar Dobrescu |
Lazar feels happy to have fulfilled the task that the Lady has presented to him. Now that all that's left is going to Lepidstadt, he wonders what Kendra's going to do. "What are you up to, Kendra? Are you going to stay here in Ravengro?"
Phaedra Alexandria Covington |
According to the will, we're supposed to stay in Ravengrow for a month at least. Though I'm fine with a time skip if Kendra and everything else is okay here.
Maria Vaduva |
Agreed on fulfilling the will. Forgot that part but Maria definitely wouldn't skip out on that part of the bargain. She lives here, after all, and IC she doesn't really care about delivering the books.
