GM Captain Trips |
Catching the drinking group by complete surprise, the heroes charge into the bar, intent on sending the enemies to an early grave. Johan leads the assault with a deadly accurate shot from his bow, the arrow imbedding itself deeply into the orc, causing it to drop its flagon in pain. Corentin charges in, but misjudges his swing and misses his target slightly. Sasha and Galor follow the cavalier into battle, the two of them working in tandem, sword and tooth ripping into the orc and sending him to the ground with a scream, quite dead. Szacha charges into the room, and seeing his target down, redirects his attack towards one of the men instead, the force of the blow driving the man to his knees and then to the floor, knocking him out cold.
Two of the humans left, and movement to the west!
The two remaining humans drop their flagons and lunge at Corentin, swaying slightly as the effects of the potent alcohol impairs their attacks. Both attacks are aimed poorly, and glance off of the cavalier's shield. Thick plumes of pea green smoke billow into the air to the west, where three hardy trees that flank the road have been set ablaze with green alchemical fire. The air reeks of sulfur and ashes. Charging from the smoke, a trio of dogs and an orc wielding two swords make their way towards the party. Two of the dogs manage to get close enough to attack with their charge, one headed towards Gizsmith while the other stops at Szacha. The attack against the gnome misses, his normally weak defenses highened by the magical screen of force surrounding his form. The attack against Szacha, however, lands, the dog's teeth ripping into the man's leg as it pulls against his weight. The man stands strong and the dog's attempt to pull him from his feet fails. The orc, swords at the ready, charges at his only available target, the ghostly wolf at Gizmsith's side. His attack passes through the creature and he gets a strange look on his face, not sure what to believe. The orc snarls in contempt that he was fooled so easily, and refocuses his efforts.
Szacha takes 4 damage.

GM Captain Trips |
Sorry guys, had a busy day yesterday at work and could only manage one update. Today may be more of the same, but I'm hoping to have some open time in the afternoon.
Johan steps back and sends a pair of arrows towards the hated orc, one going wide but the other connecting, the projectile cutting a line across the creature's cheek with a grazing shot. Sasha and Galor turn their attention to one of the arriving dogs, and Galor manages to quickly rip the life out of the smaller animal. Szacha continues his assault, driving his bardiche into the back of the last dog, the weapon cleanly severing its spine and dropping it to the dirt. Bellanie rushes forward and distracts the man facing Corentin, her attack leaving him vulnerable as Corentin's axe drives home, tearing into the man and killing him in one stroke. Gizsmith, realizing that his targets are dropping quickly to the prowess of his teammates, pulls the lightcrossbow at his side up and fires the weapon at the remaining orc, the bolt striking true and imbedding deeply in the man.
@Giz - You have only the orc remaining, so I'm going to hazard a guess that you wouldn't want to spend the AoE spell on a single target. Going to take some creative license here. If I'm out of line just let me know!
The orc commanding the dogs steps towards Johan, seeing a hated enemy in sight, and makes a single attack with his double axe. The creature fails to find an opening in the archer's defenses, cursing at the human loudly. The remaining human in the Killin' Ground turns to run, eager to get out of the deadly melee. Full Withdraw Action.

Johan fires off two arrows at the orc, missing with both shots and drawing away a bit further. Corentin tends to the wounds of the man with the injury, realizing that the form is that of Rabus Clarenston, the proprietor of the Killin' Fields. Szacha lunges forward at the orc, his bardiche batted away at the last moment buy the orc's double axe. Sasha and Galor go on the hunt, chasing down the fleeing man as Sasha's blade cuts into his back as he runs.
Giz doesn't see anyone else moving to enter combat at the moment, the coast appears to be clear.
The orc steps up and lashes out again at Johan, his weapon spinning in circles as he brings each of the deadly blades to threaten the ranger. One strike connects, the curved blade of the axe cutting deeply into the ranger's shoulder. The fleeing man, realizing that there would be no out running the wolf, brings his spear to his defense, striking out against the halfling mounting the vicious creature. The clumsy attempt misses Sasha by a mile and leaves the human open and defenseless.

Corentin the Younger |
"Quickly, let's get Rabus back to the healers and push on." Corentin says before sheathing his axe and lifting the mans limp body onto his shoulder.
Once we drop him off let's check the north side of the road before crossing the burning trees.
Gizsmith Glitterbyte |
"Well done everyone."
Turning to Johan, "Well I do have a scroll that might heal you up. It does sting a bit and some people find the whole process distasteful, but it does work. You're not allergic to demon's blood are you?"
I have a couple of scrolls of infernal healing, or I could use the ring to cast a CLWs.
GM Captain Trips |
If you need to do any healing or whatnot please post so now.
The group carries Rabus back to the barricade, the healers quickly assisting with the man and getting him settled. One of them gives a nod of thanks to the party before opening a satchel and working to tend the man's gruesome wound.
Knowing time is of the essence, the party moves north and comes to a large home. Long flames lick the walls of this sizeable house, and burning beams crumble to the ground beneath the weight of the sagging roof. Though the front entrance remains accessible for now, the conflagration rages beyond control, threatening the lives of any residents that might be trapped inside. Screams of panic can be heard from within.
Slamming the door open with his shield, Coretin spots the form of Agrit Staginsdar struggling against a massive beam that has collapsed in the middle of the main room of the house. Beneath the beam is the body of a half-orc woman, who appears to be unconscious. "Help! Help me! She's trapped! I cannae lift this to free her!" the dwarven female calls out upon seeing the man at the doorway. "Sara! Hang on love!"
The interior of the house is full of smoke, and grants concealment to any inside. There is also the hazard of all of the smoke itself, and entering the building will require some fortitude to resist such.
The house is in bad shape, and will probably collapse in less than two minutes.
GM Captain Trips |
Assuming someone takes the time to sort through the bodies while the others are helping Rabus back to the healers, you will find the following. Given the limited time you won't be able to deal with the armor and such, as it would need to be removed.
Each of the humans had a potion, chainmail, greatsword, dagger, javelin, longspear, and 2 gp.
The orc inside the tavern had six potions, chain shirt, masterwork greataxe, shortspear, and 59 gp.
The orc with the dogs had two potions, two vials of acid , caltrops, leather armor, three javelins, an orc double-axe, a polished scabbard, and 36 gp.

Looking over the characters you are the party healer at the moment Gizsmith. Szacha does not seem to know Cure Light Wounds. I'd prefer not to move forward with a great axe wound if there is an option.
Corentin the Younger |
Seeing the two in trouble the cavalier takes a deep breath and heads into the burning building, angling his shield to ward off the worst of the heat. Once he reaches the pair he grabs the beam and lifts with as much might as he is able.

GM Captain Trips |
Going to proceed. I don't see Giz running in and lifting anything, and there are some mechanics bits to work out.
Initiative - It's important
Group Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Other Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Round 1
The three men head inside the building, quickly working to assist the dwarf with lifting the beam from her beloved. Heavier than it initially looked, the beam creaks in protest as the men work at hoisting it. Seeing the able bodies working well in concert, Agrit releases the beam and lowers herself to the ground, grasping at Sara's hands and preparing to pull her free once the beam is clear.
Fort Save - Szacha: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
As they work, Corentin and Szacha are struck with a fit of coughing, doubling over and heaving for breath. Agrit, seeing them fight against the smoke, moves again to support the beam, lifting with all of her might.
Mechanics - It will take 2 rounds of continuous lifting to move the beam, and it takes a total of 3 people. Agrit can assist with lifting or pulling Sara clear. Each round you remain in the building a Fort Save is required or you will double over in pain, suffering from smoke inhalation. Sara also appears to be taking continuous damage from the heat and the beam, and is currently unconscious, so you are working against the clock.
Through the smoke Gizsmith and Sasha can make out the forms of a trio of orcs headed towards the building, obviously spotting the activity outside.
The party is up. Gizsmith and Sasha can each take an additional action for the previous round.
Beam Progress - None
Johan Fletcher |
Which is three. The odds of three people getting a 15 or better in the same round on a save is pretty low. Obviously Johan is trying but, but the math suggests it will take more than 10 rounds of trying to get two rounds of success. And metagaming but if it can be any two of us perhaps Johan needs to go kill the orcs, which is sorta a speciality of his… Thoughts?
Corentin the Younger |
With burning eyes and throat Corentin does his best to move the beam again.
Fort: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22
Perhaps it's the dire nature of the situation but he's able to master the effects of the smoke and heat for a bit.

Earlier...
"Demon blood it is then. Now hold still this may sting a little." Use scroll of infernal healing. Fast healing 1 for 10 round,s so Johan should be back up to full.
Now... (Just pass on the first round, can't think of anything I would have done)
Seeing the orcs advance, Gizsmith yells out a warning, "I don't want to alarm you, but we have company!'
Willing his illusion forward to act as a screen for him (10 feet closer to orcs), Gizsmith begins casting a spell. Suddenly a burst of golden sparkles explodes in the middle of the group of orcs, showering then in its blinding radiance (Glitterdust DC17 will save, or blinded for 3 rounds. Should be able to hit all three)

Retcon
Johan, Szacha, and Agrit tug against the massive beam, the wood groaning and creaking as they manage to make some progress in lifting the massive thing.
Everyone lifting takes 1 point of damage from the flames and coals
Present Round
Still working against the weight of the beam, Johan and Agrit continue to strain to lift it from Sara's prone form. Overcoming the choking smoke, Corentin manages to get back into place just as Szacha releases the beam in a fit of coughing. With the addition of the cavalier's strength the beam clears the ground and leaves just enough room for Sara to be removed. "Quick! Someone pull her out of there!" the dwarf calls, her muscles straining against the weight of the wood.
Sasha and Gizmith call out alarms as the trio of orcs make their way towards the two smaller members of the party. Sasha mounts her wolf, ready to leap into battle, while Gizmsith fires off a trick of his own, filling the air around the orcs with a multitude of sparkling lights and shimmering glitter. Two of the orcs stop dead in their tracks, rubbing at their eyes and screaming in frustration as the lights go out. The last orc charges towards the mage, however the magical field of force surrounding Gizsmith wards away the blow as it shimmers under the near impact of the axe.
Johan and Corentin take 1 damage from the flames on the beam. As long as they maintain their hold, Sara can be removed next round.
The party is up! Roll20 isn't cooperating this morning, so I couldn't adjust the position of the charging orc, but he would be based with Gizsmith.

Note that Johan is still fast healing from the scroll Gizsmith used on him before he entered the building.
Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Still holding his breath agains the smoke, Johan helps hold the beam until the half orc is pulled free. He then moves from the smoke into a position where he can employ his bow against the orcs threatening them and puts a shaft into the one that can still see.
