I have a sinking feeling this encounter is precisely how this whole AP is going to go. =P

Male Elf Rogue 1 (AC 18, Saves Fort +4, Ref +9, Will +6 HP 6 out of 15?)

With rolls like these, lets hope not

Male Halfling Warpriest (Divine Commander) 3 | HP 36/36 | AC:20 T:15 FF:16 CMD:16 | F+5 R+6 W+6 | Init+4 | Perc+4 |

It's early in the campaign - we're just getting our feet wet.

I meant more the - Krojun walks into the trap/ambush/beating, party shows up, combat ensues.

Female Half-Elf Cleric 3 HP: 25/25 | AC: 18, Touch: 13, FlatFoot: 17 | Saves: Fort: +5, Reflex: +3, Will: +7 | Init: +1 | Perception: +14 | Channels remaining: 7/7

What, you rush in, get over your head, Sera goes to your aid, and the rest of the party is all "oh look, they are fighting again, better back them up!"

Exactly!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. This adventure path presents a big variety of situations, so ambushes shouldn't be a constant thing.

Now expecting the drop, Sera hops over the ship's side and through the rotten wood, striking at one of the spiders. Her morningstar caves the vermin's shell in, splattering some of the bug's juices about, but the insect still stands.

Silvio hops down through the hole left by Krojun with great agility, but his strike misses the skittish spider.

Staryth clears some of the deck with a strike of his glaive before leaping down, sliding alongside the hull to make a safe descent. He attempts to strike at one of the spiders as he comes down but miscalculates and embeds his glaive in the bottom of the ship. [ooc]You will need to use a move action to pull it free.

Nicolai watches as Krojun disappears from view accompanied by the sound of cracking wood, turning to Ruke he quips "I suppose that's one way to get to the lower hold, as for me I prefer to use the stairs"
He will open the door on the main deck and look for a way down to the lower deck.

Nicolai carefully stays on the edge of the ship's deck, wary of it giving way under his feet, and opens the door, at which point two more spiders leap out at him.

Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Nicolai's fortitude save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

One of them scores a direct hit, dealing 1 damage. Thankfully, he is able to resist the venom.

Ruke, preferring not to get any closer to the spiders than he needs to, begins telling the story of a man known for his verminslaying skill, and how he single handedly defeated an army of spiders with nothing but some lantern oil, a match, and a club.

Inspire courage is go.

Down in the hold, the remaining spiders continue attacking.

Bite Sera: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Bite Krojun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Bite Krojun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Krojun's fortitude save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

One of the spiders still crawling around Krojun bites him, dealing 1 damage, but does not manage to affect him with its poison.

Dem's some good fort saves.

Krojun growls as one of the vermin climbs up his leg. He bats it aside and tries to splatter it with his axe.

Smash /w Inspire: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

+2 more if he can pick up a flank.

The spider skitters out of the axe's path, avoiding the attack, with a threatening hiss.

Female Half-Elf Cleric 3 HP: 25/25 | AC: 18, Touch: 13, FlatFoot: 17 | Saves: Fort: +5, Reflex: +3, Will: +7 | Init: +1 | Perception: +14 | Channels remaining: 7/7

Slightly put out that the spider she struck is still skittering, she swats at it again to try and finish the job.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 101d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11

This time, Sera misses entirely, putting a dent in the bottom of the ship.

Ruke moves next to Nicolai and takes a swipe at one of the spiders with his scimitar.

Scimitar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

But he too misses the very agile vermin.

Inspire courage is maintained.

"Stand still so I can hit you!" Silvio takes a swing at the spider he's flanking.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 5 That can't be good.

Fighting is hard.

It's time to play my favorite game... WHEEL... OF... FUMBLE! Two spins in two turns, is this my birthday?

For the record, I'm using a mix of fumble tables and my own personal fiat. My group originally used the paizo fumble deck, but it was way too deadly for our tastes.

Silvio deftly attempts to stab at one of the spiders, but fails to notice a particularly slippery patch of moss at his feet. He looses footing for a moment, and twists his ankle awkwardly.

Uh oh!: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Silvio takes one damage and can only move at half speed next round.

Attck roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Yeah. Fighting is definitely hard.

Darn spiders and their high AC, huh?

Male Elf Rogue 1 (AC 18, Saves Fort +4, Ref +9, Will +6 HP 6 out of 15?)

Downside of using a glaive is getting used to the reach

Staryth, seeing the fight has begun with the creatures, pries his weapon free from its imprisonment.

When he can, he'll strike at the one before Sera.

Move used to free weapon. Assuming the reach is enough to do so, he strikes. If he can't, ignore the attack.

To hit:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
[ooc]dmg:
1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

EDIT: Actually, I forgot the bard song bonus so plus add +1 to each of the above if they apply

Staryth lunges at one of the spiders, gutting it open with his glaive.

The spiders continue their assault.

Bite Krojun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Krojun's fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Bite Sera: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Sera's fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Bite Nicolai: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Nicolai's fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Bite Ruke: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Krojun, Sera, and Nicolai each take one damage.

Nicolai feels his leg go slightly limp shortly after the spider bites it.

Nicolai's Strength Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Judging best to keep some of his remaining inspiration for the battle to come with Gaedrenn, Ruke ends his performance and swipes at the spider at his feet with his scimitar...

Ruke's Scimitar Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

But his attack misses.

Krojun bats another spider off that's buried it's fangs in his flesh before bringing his axe down on it.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Only one adjective can truly describe what remains of the spider: Splattered.

One spider remains in the hold, still clinging to Sera's leg, while two are upstairs, attacking Nicolai and Ruke.

Sera attempts to kick off the spider before squashing it with her morningstar.

Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 61d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8

Good thing you guys are getting the bad rolls out before Gaedrenn. :P

The spider leaps back, hissing, and avoids the strike.

"Ow, my foot!" Having twisted his ankle, Silvio is forced to limp around to Sera's aid, slipping past the massive Krojun.

Move just south of Sera. If this counts as flanking, add a +2 and sneak damage.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Nicolai misses his target entirely.

Meanwhile, Silvio takes a stab at the remaining spider in the hold, spearing it through with his dueling sword, where it writhes for a few moment before expiring.

Ruke is back. I need to try and catch up with the 45 posts over the weekend though! I'm not sure exactly where we are yet.

Most of it is me being very confused and trying to figure out what's going on. Currently we are on a ramshackle boat fighting spiders. You and Nicolai are on what remains of the deck fighting two, while the rest of the group in in the hold having just slain all of the ones down here.

Still at the spider fight, you've consumed two rounds of performance while in bot mode, and that's pretty much it. There are two spiders up in the cabin of the ship with you and nicolai, and I assume the rest of the party is going to come up to help you two soon.

Male Elf Rogue 1 (AC 18, Saves Fort +4, Ref +9, Will +6 HP 6 out of 15?)

Sorry I fell behind. I was a bit confused myself to be honest Staryth moves to find Ruke and Nikoli

Not sure if I can move there and attack all in one round

Level 2 Male Halfling Bard | HP 20 (Current:: 18)| AC 17 | T 14 | FF 14 | CMD 13 | Fort +3 | Ref +7 | Will +4 | Init +3 | Perc +7 | Sense Motive +10 | Bardic Performance: 6/9

Assuming that thing is a spider between Nicolai and Ruke, that is what he will attack.

Ruke takes another swing at the spider, attempting to squash the nasty thing and get back to the task at hand...

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25
Confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Yeah you're close enough, I moved you in position to attack.

Staryth's Glaive Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Staryth lunges at the spider attacking Ruke, but his attack misses.

Nicolai's Fort Save vs. Poison already in effect: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Nicolai's leg continues feeling more limp. One more str damage taken.

Bite Ruke: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Bite Nicolai: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Nicolai's Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Nicolai takes one damage from the spider's bite, but the new dose of poison doesn't make things worse.

The party is up.

I'll refresh the list of who hasn't played when I post attack reults. If anyone has suggestions for other ways of keeping things clear, I would love to hear them.

"Come down here and we'll help with the vermin on you. Yargin is getting away while we dillydally with spiders!" Sera calls up to those above. Once they drop down with the group, Sera will again imbue the group with the power of Abadar's judgment.

Readied Channel once group together: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Yay hit points!

Krojun raises his axe high, prepared to swat any spiders if they jump down.

”Do as Sera says. They are ferocious despite their size.”

Readying.

Level 2 Male Halfling Bard | HP 20 (Current:: 18)| AC 17 | T 14 | FF 14 | CMD 13 | Fort +3 | Ref +7 | Will +4 | Init +3 | Perc +7 | Sense Motive +10 | Bardic Performance: 6/9

I have to say I feel like combat seems to be getting away from us a little bit. I'm not sure the reason, but it seems off. I hit a spider earlier while on "bot mode" with a 17 which was called a miss, Silvio then hitting one with a 15 and killing it. Last round, at my turn, I pegged another one with a 25 end roll and it attacked right after that. How exactly is all of this being tracked? It just seems a hair chaotic.

Hearing the rest of the group call out, Ruke quickly descends the stairs and comes to the bottom of the old boat.

I don't think Ruke did enough to kill the one he hit with a 25. Not sure on their AC. Maybe they're not all the same?

For the 17: Ouch. Caught in a flagrant act of fudging. I nerfed the spiders' AC when the fight seemed to drag on, bringing it down to 16, but I hadn't remembered the 17 from earlier. As for the 25, it was posted while I was writing the following post, and I must admit I missed it entirely (Ruke had been botted at the start that same round.) Also, Silvio got the hit on a 17, with flank, not on a 15. My apologies for the confusion.

Ruke descends the stairs, taking out one of the spiders along the way, and the other one crawls after him, only to find itself provoking the readied Krojun...

Also, I'm guessing it's mostly getting away because of how long it's been lasting, and the fact that the entire party has consecutive initiatives.

Consecutive inits is actually really good for keeping things moving.

As the spider comes into view, Krojun takes a mighty swipe with his axe.

And that triggers Sera's action, so anyone who didn't already include it, Heal 6.

Miraculously, the spider crawls through the attacks unscathed. However, detecting a conspicuous lack of fellow nestmates and a flurry of attacks nearby, it skitters away, out of the ship and into the evening air, leaving the party in peace.

Krojun shakes his head at the dozen different bite wounds littering his thickly muscled legs. The venom seeping from the wounds wasn't slowing him down but they still hurt all the same. But he didn't have time to worry over pain, they had a job to do...

"Is everyone whole? We need to get inside", the big Shoanti says as he looks for exits.

I'm not going to be able to take a look at the map for a bit. Krojun will leave the way further in as soon as the group is as patched up as they're going to be.

Male Elf Rogue 1 (AC 18, Saves Fort +4, Ref +9, Will +6 HP 6 out of 15?)

Krojun nods.

What are the entrances/exits from our current location?
