Background:

The Brightonspinner name can be found all over Golarion, with several claiming to be 'Brightonspinner' without any real way to verify such a claim. They all, however, seem to possess the emerald eyes and vibrant personalities so characteristic of the Varisian heritage.

Ruke was born into the traveling troupe "Harrigan's Harlequins", where he learned the finer points of showmanship and chicanery. He showed an early knack for the reading of the harrow, and quickly became a featured attraction at their regular stops, reading fortunes, casting the cards, and pilfering the occasional purse of the awestruck travelers who would get a bit too absorbed in the cards. His talent for minor magics helped him out of many close calls with the authorities, Ruke always managing to stay one step ahead of them.

All seemed well in his life, and he had little to want for, until the fateful day when the troupe arrived in Korvosa. Early in the visit, all went well, as the group set up on the outskirts of town and provided entertainment for the citizens, many of them the poor and penniless sort from Old Korvosa. Within a matter of days, Ruke's lifelong friend Desmin had made his way into the inner city and had become wrapped up in the use of shiver, a popular local drug. Quickly becoming addicted to the substance, Desmin spent more and more time away from the troupe, missing his shifts, which set Ruke to worry. Fate played its final hand on the morning that the troupe was set to hit the road once more. Ruke, coming into Desmin's tent to rouse him for the day's performances, found his friend still in bed, still and cold, and quite dead. Next to the body lay an empty packet of shiver. The drug had taken the life of his childhood friend. Ruke sneered and vowed it would steal no more from him.

Ruke informed the other members of the troupe of the situation and told them he would catch up with them on the road and for them to go ahead without him. He moved into the city and began to investigate more on who was supplying the drugs to his friend and planned on dealing with them himself. After two days of pressing coins to palms and using his skills on the locals he found the information he sought. A local crime lord by the name of Gaedren was the one responsible for the shiver distribution in Korvosa. With information in hand, Ruke set off to find this man and deliver his own form of Brightonspinner justice to the criminal.

Demeanor:

Ruke is a showman with a quick tongue and quicker wit. While he is not someone who is quick with a sword, he learned the art of throwing at a young age and prides himself in his ability to always hit his target. He is a natural spokesman and has fooled more than a few people into falling for his confidence games. Ruke has a natural talent for working a crowd and can quickly turn the masses with his voice and violin play.

Description:

Ruke stands nearly three feet tall and his youthful appearance can easily be mistaken for that of a human child, which he uses to his advantage. He wears worn leather armor hidden beneath layers of pocketed clothing and generally sports a bandolier across his chest with a number of thrown weapons and implements tucked within it. A well used whip hangs at his hip, which he sometimes cracks and swings to get the attention of a crowd. A flowing cloak hangs from his slender shoulders which helps conceal his overall appearance when needed. He has bright green eyes and dirty blonde hair which never seems to properly stay in place. And his smile lights up any room he enters.
