For what it's worth, one of my friends is playing a ragechemist/vivisectionist in the tabletop game I'm in, and he's pretty darn efficient. (We houseruled away the ridiculously insane weakness of the ragechemist that makes the prestige unplayable, though)
Makes a good meleer.
That being said, one must respect a man who can throw explosives. Bombs are pretty cool too.
Forgot to mention another part of my battleplan, come higher levels: Summon Monster. What's not to love?

Ahh but you can not sneak attack with siege engines. I can bomb with siege engines at 12th. Point bombs.
I also find it funny you can take trap finding now as alchemist. just raises the middle to all those rogues out there. and both of those archetypes stack.

... there would be a funny build.
-I'll sneak attack him with this catapult.-
-What vital point are you hoping to hit on that Orc with that huge boulder?
-All of them.
Rogues have a bunch of skills and rogue talents over the alchemist though. All in all, I think they're both pretty good classes.
It's a good thing the Alchemist can take Trapfinding, if you ask me. Means you can have a party that can find traps without having to have a rogue.

Makes me wonder if one could make a decent build out of a summoner mounting a siege weapon on top of an eidolon designed for that purpose.
One day, I'll find the right build for a one-man siege weapon user.
One day...
Ah, strange builds from the mind of DeGivre.
You guys ever play a really really offbeat character?
I think as far as characters go, I'd be hard pressed to top the cleric who worships himself as a god. Aldaroth the Almighty was a pretty entertaining fellow to play.
Krakk the Arctic Goblin Crusader was a pretty wild one too, though. (Goblin Crusader Logic: War is fun. Some people want war. Some people don't want war. If the people who want war go to war on the people who don't want war, there's no fun for anyone. Solution: Fight anyone who wants war so they won't go to war with people who don't want war. Then everyone will be happy!)

So much fun to play, too.
He had a very fun homebrew feat: "Charging Strike"
When mounted, he could use one of his strikes as part of a charge.
To this day, I'm not sure how broken that was or not, but then the entire party was nuts anyway.
What surprises me the most, to this day, is how he miraculously survived to so many things. He had one approach to combat: "I charge it."
This includes a seven headed pyrohydra.
Krakk was nuts.

Male dwarf acrobat got turned into a female tabaxi over the course of a few campaign arcs.
Bob and his Paladin Bob. I played the mount because it was a lot smarter then the Paladin.
Half ogre Hulking hurler, war hulk. He used to throw enemies at each other.
And my ever favorite a Gobo with dog sniff hate favored enemy animals the gobo bonus for ranger vs horse and dog all of it. I spent a whole adventure making the world safe for goblins by killing horse and dog all over the world. Managed rid a swath from sandpoint to riddleport of the creatures before I got ganked by druids.
Oh and in a game of gamma world I ran a Boa constrictor with dominate and my brother had a Ostrich that was 4 stories tall by the end of his mutations.

Pft. Those are some wild ones indeed.
A guy in my group back in 3,5 did the "play the companion" thing too, but he was the parrot familiar of a dumb-as-rocks sorcerer.
I've considered doing it with a Summoner. The Eidolon's the relevant character, the summoner is the lackey.

I saw in a Way of the Wicked game that the player had sold his soul to a demon that he could summon. Problem was, he flubbed up on the summoning ritual and the "demon" that resulted yelled at him endlessly during the campaign about how idiotic he was.
I am SO looking forward to this game continuing.

Me too, you have no idea.
*starts throwing peanuts at the DM*
In the meantime...
That story of a flubbed summon reminds me of the story of the Cowardly Scimitar of (some middle-eastern name I don't remember.)
A DM dropped the following sword to several different parties in loot, through their career:
+5 Vorpal Intelligent Scimitar.
However, the scimitar had no ego so it couldn't possess its wielder.
The problem was with the scimitar's personality. It went something like this:
*loud obnoxious screechy voice*"No! Not another battle! Aah! Orcs! I'm scared of orcs! Please! Leave me in my sheathe! I beg you! No! Nononono-" *slash* "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I'M COVERED IN BLOOD! AAAAAAAH! *uncontrollable bawling*
And so on. Inevitably, each iteration of the sword finished its life comfortably mounted on the wall over the mantle of a nice, warm, safe inn, where it could chat with guests and with the owner.

That scimitar sounds amazing and I need to include it in my campaigns.
My brother, who introduced me to D&D, had an encounter he loved to use that your scimitar story reminded me of. As the PCs were walking down the road, he'd sometimes have them encounter two bugbears standing next to a handmade "toll booth." The bugbears would demand a 1 gp toll to allow passage. They wouldn't attack unless they were attacked; they'd barely even attempt to intimidate or really disrupt the characters. All they wanted was 1 gold piece, and if they got it, they'd happily let the characters pass.
Apparently even level 1 noobies attacked these bugbears recklessly and got themselves severely wounded, even killed, over a single piece of gold.
As for characters, my most memorable was a dwarf monk in a homebrew pirate adventure back in 3.5. At third level he jumped twenty feet to an enemy ship while everyone else was getting ready to fight, sundered through half their melee weapons, grappled a lieutenant, got knocked overboard with that pirate when the ships collided, then Stunning Fisted him in the water and climbed back aboard to help finish off their crew. It's amazing what a little homebrew and amazing rolls can do for you.
And in the IRL campaign that's currently on hold, we have a player who's brand new to tabletop RPGs who decided to play the party tank. He's a halfling armored hulk barbarian. Our ultimate plan is to turn him into a living medieval daisy cutter by flying him into the air and dropping him onto the enemy. Of course, I'm going to homebrew how to get this to work :)

            Hah, that monk sounds fun.
That reminds me of the Undine monk in the table-top game I have on hold as of late. Elbow-dropping a cultist from a 20-foot-high balcony into a puddle of flaming oil without taking any damage yourself except very slight burns? Sure, why not.

Not that I'm complaining cuz it makes for a good story but we should only fall if we fail the check by 5 or more. Ok if you house rule it of course, just need to know for risk taking in the future.

I'd rather it not apply every time. Kind of makes Climb a lot riskier.
Just a question: Is always waiting for everyone to post before making the next gameplay thread going to be a constant thing?
I'm asking because the GM for the other campaign I'm in often advances one side-thread while waiting for other players, and it seems to work out well. For example, sending Ignatius and Charlotte on their duties while the climbing situation is being sorted out.
I understand it's a bit more work on your side so I understand if you'd rather not take this approach, though. I'd just like to know so I can expect it from now on.
(That, and my character has been left hanging for the past 28 hours...)

I use a concept called flex time to allow folks to do multiple things at once that all may occur at different times. Similar to dungeon crawling several rooms at once. Only go linear when we hit combat.
No complaints, just tools.
No worries about climb either, just want to know what the risk level is.

Climb fails of that nature only applied for the first time to highlight how dangerous it is on a pirate ship. It will not apply the first time to every check, only this one and 1 or 2 others.
Also, if everyone is up for flex-time simultaneous adventuring exploits out of combat, I can implement that. It's mostly what everyone else wants. I run a benevolent dictatorship in my games! :)

I'm going to do my best to stay on top of things--this is the most active game I'm in right now and one of my favorites--but if need be, GM, you can control Variziel if needed to advance the story.

Also Variziel, you just want me to set you with swab duties and let Jesal take the other position in the crew? And when would I know to control your character? Perhaps if you haven't posted by a certain time like 12:00 PM Eastern Time or something of that nature? Also, is there a particular NPC (Cogs, Conchobar, Sandara, ect.,)?

As for IRL travels, I'm heading to New Hampshire and Massachusetts. NH first, where I'm going to visit my aunt and uncle at their house as well as my uncle's parents' lake house. Gonna visit and do some work for them. From there we're visiting my grandparents in western MA before finally returning homeward.
About to check out the Gameplay updates and post in there!
