GM Burglar |
The party drops off the errant Pathfinder and gathers themselves at the designated location (possibly after after a mite of shopping.) The location's front appears true to their informant's word, closed and very abandoned.

Brachus |
Brachus takes a quick look at his surroundings
Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32
and glances at the others
"Want me too....?"
Brachus holds out his hand in front of him as if touching something and looking through it
Luisila |
Luisila nearly refuses a scorched, papyrus scroll of bull’s strength offered by a well-nourished merchant, who tries to impress her by mentioning the item was:
“Written in fair hand by an acolyte of Hell’s Own Bull – the Archdevil Moloch, Mistress.”
Later … the priestess nods at Brachus’ suggestion.
Take 1 Auto-aid Perception for traps and threats: 1 + 20 = 21
“I think Ryster should have that covered, Aakif.”
Luisila shakes her head at the dwarf’s sour expression. “Oh cheer up, Ryster! You look like a bulldog that’s been chewing on a wasp.”
Poor wasp.
Ryster Demarkarios |
Ryster frowns at Luisila, his bushy eyebrows lowering so far as to make his eyes disappear. Shaking his head, he moves up to the door checking for traps, then glances up at Bracchus. "See anything in there, sport?"
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Brachus |
Brachus concentrates for a minute (after making sure that what ever he's touching isn't going to blow up in his face - detect magic, take 10 on perception for a 26 if the previous 32 didn't show up anything) and looks inside
GM Burglar |
Brachus is able to tell both the exploding door isn't going to explode quite yet and a description of the adjacent room.
There are several dusty, sheet-covered chairs and a grimy, low table to one side of this unswept room. Signs of recent passage are visible between the two doorways leading from this room.
The door is locked, though these streets are among those that don't often see patrol, so the chances of irritating the guard are only as high as you make them (even if you were to go in via the rowdier way.)

Ryster Demarkarios |
Ryster gets out his tools and begins working at the trap, then the lock.
Disable: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
Disable: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26
Luisila |
Luisila tries dipping her brow in an attempt to hide her own green eyes behind her eyebrows. She tries for quite a while before admitting defeat.
With squinty eyes she confronts the dwarven burglar and in a low-pitched gravelly tone grunts, “Hmph. Guess you’ll get that lock open so we can go inside. Then you can disarm some traps and shoot stuff. Torag’s Beard! A dwarf’s work is never done …”
Brachus |
"As far as I can tell, nobody is in the next room"
Brachus says as he wipes his hand on his trousers and takes a step back to allow other people access to the door.
Seeing Ryster starting to do something delicate Brachus will offer some guidance...before moving to stand at a relative safe distance.
Just in case an extra +1 on those disable rolls makes a difference
GM Burglar |
The first attempt fails (even with guidance,) but second succeeds.

Luisila |
Luisila follows Varg inside and slips her backpack off quietly, stashing the item in a convenient corner.
Take 10 Stealth + guidance: 10 + 7 + 1 = 18
Take 10 Perception: 10 + 20 = 30
She detects magic "Calistria's is still best btw, Aakif," while having a casual look about the place for traps and threats before reminding the others, "Lazuli said move quickly and don't touch any bodies we come across. If the building matches the map, there should be a door in the eastern wall."
Take 10 Perception for door traps: 10 + 20 = 30
GM Burglar |
Do note that stealth either takes a penalty or goes at half speed (barring a usually useless rogue talent.) Also that Stealth is almost universally a contested check so T10 isn't an option (though I will take it as "I'm rolling stealth if applicable; here's my modifier. Just roll it in one if your pointless spoilers.")

Aakif Hazam |
Aakif will cast the communal resist fire right before the door is opened.
Whispering To Lusila:
"It would be strange for you to think otherwise, if you are her cleric."
Aakif will cast detect magic from the truly best deity, then scan the room.
Take 10 perception = 30.
Ryster Demarkarios |
Seeing everyone else begin to sneak, Ryster raises up on the balls of his feet and pads into the room.
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
GM Burglar |
Map updatage is formally requested for the general remainder dungeon.
Everyone successfully enters the first, entryway room (with varying degrees of success in sneaking.) No traps are detected nor any further locks into the room. There are tracks going directly from the front door to the next door, though only a true hunter could ascertain any more detailed information.
The next room is more cluttered, regardless of viewing method. This long room has two rows of stone slabs, each showing the shape of a sheet-covered cadaver on its surface. Strips of fabric and rolls of cloth wrapping lie strewn around the chamber while lines of thread stretch across the room, hung with sheets, obscuring parts of the area. There are a few other furnishings, such as cupboards and benches along the north wall. The chamber has the clinical smell of bitter alkaline.

Luisila |
Survival on tracks: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Take 10 Perception traps and threats: 10 + 20 = 30
“I think we should move through this Mummy room as quickly and quietly as possible without touching anything.”
Are those longish white lines wrappings/bandages or something?
Luisila avoids everything in the room like the Plague Mummy rot, stepping carefully around/over wrappings as she heads for the east door.
Aakif Hazam |
"Mummies you say... Does anyone mind if I set them on fire if I need to burn mummies? Of course I will only target you if I need to. You are protected from fire for a little while still."
If possible, Aakif will double move through the room, following Varg. He will attempt to move quickly and not touch anything.
Brachus |
"Did you spot anything interesting in there Luisila?"
"...only if there are actually mummies here Aakif..other wise.....you know what, let's decide on a case by case basis if you can set me on fire, ok?'
Luisila |
"Does anyone mind if I set them on fire ..."
Luisila's impatience has seen her climb down into an undercroft beneath the well preserved ruins of a previously undiscovered sky citadel. Her rash action has positioned her well ahead of her experienced party.
So you've gone and split the party, Luisila? You Calidamn fool! That's something that dozy cow Eadie would do - not you!
Ugh, I hope Bray, Cleaver and the others catch up soon. In the meantime, I might as well have a little poke around. Luisila activates the light function on her wayfinder.
"I solemnly swear that I am up to no good!"
Luisila's eyes follow her wayfinder's sweeping light across a paved floor housing the dusty remnants of a blacksmith's forge, complete with a granite anvil watched over by the graven image of a grumpy, bushy-eyebrowed dwarf.
"Well hello there, handsome! Droskar, the Dark Smith I presume? You know if the bellows blow in another direction, your expression will stay like that? Oooh, now what have we here?"
The half-elf uses a lungful of air and her bare hand to sweep the dust off the anvil, to uncover a series of dwarven runes carved into its flat, stone surface.
No legs have I to dance,
No lungs have I to breathe,
No life have I to live or die
And yet I do all three.
What am I?
Above the opening, Luisila's companions hear a ROAR then a high-pitched SHRIEK as flames rush out at them from the mouth of the pit like a red dragon’s maw.
A minute later you hear muffled elven chanting and a bright honeyed glow briefly illuminates the inside of the pit.
*casts* create water
Channel Healing: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 6) = 16
Shortly afterwards a wet, grumpy-looking and somewhat singed half-elven cleric scales the rope and steps out of the pit. The faint smell of burning hair is present and she has clearly lost her eyebrows giving her a permanently surprised expression. She eyes Varg, then Brachus and each of her other companions in turn.
“Not. ONE. WORD!!!”
♗♗♗♗
Back in the present, Luisila's mouth is a thin line. She takes a deep breath before addressing the Dawnfower Dissident. "I'm fine with being set on fire, Aakif. Perfectly fine. Yep, totally fine, fine, fine."
Brachus |
"We are doing the create water thing again?..well it is the solution to pretty much every trap we've encountered together..did you spot a trap?..or are you trying to fill it up the pit with holy water? ..I don't think that's how you make holy water...but I could be wrong...see, that wasn't _one_ word..that was at least..I don't know..40 or 50 of them"
Brachus says with a wink
Brachus |
I think I have messed up with my answer if everything Luisilla posted was going on inside her head...so let's pretend that Brachus was also thinking about something instead of commenting ...and continue moving forward? (We've explored together before and there were some weight sensitive traps which we just triggered from a distance by summoning a few gallons of water on top of them)
GM Burglar |
The group filters in with Varg on the 10ft point. During their discussion about fire, water, and traps, they dawdle long enough to gain the ire of the elephant(s) in the room! A pair of the bodies awaken from their sleepy undeadness on the... 3d8 ⇒ (3, 3, 2) = 8 ... second and third tables!

Everyone but Varg is up first!
Then the Mums!
Then Varg!
To note, they are prone and are mumbly undead (as expected.)
Ryster Demarkarios |
Ryster pulls out a flask of holy water and infuses it into a musket cartridge. "Looks like the party is about to start...."
Luisila |
“Mummies in an embalming shoppe in Sothis? I can’t believe I didn’t see that coming!”
Luisila copybasts, walks 5’ like an Osirian and gives Varg a bit of Luxor Desert Pyramid luck.
Brachus |
"I'm fine with being set on fire now...but if you can angle it so that you don't need to include me...all the better"
Brachus waits till after Aakif before he takes a step forward and holds out his holy symbol infront of him
(channel positive energy - either to heal the party in case Aakif rains fire down on top of us and we look hurt..or to blast the undead)Positive energy: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 5) = 10 (DC 17 will save for half damage in case it turns out blasting undead is the best option)
Aakif Hazam |
There they are! Blast them!
Aakif will fireball the mummies. The pillar might block area damage to the closest opponent. If possible, I'd like to target both opponents and no party members. Only if I need to, I'll hit party members in order to hit both opponents, as my companions will ignore the first 20 points of fire damage.
"Sarenrae smite our enemies with cleansing FIRE!"
Fireball: 8d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 5, 1, 3, 3, 5) = 30
Reflex DC:17 for the bad guys (and hopefully no party members)
GM Burglar |
For reference, look at a rainbow to determine the ordering of rolls for bads. If you are red/blue colourblind, then this fight is a little harder.
- Aakif sends out a ball of fire aimed more at the back of the room! Refs: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 101d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 The nearest mummy has no luck, but the one in the back takes the brunt! Many sheets are now burnt, but Fireball fortunately doesn't burn long enough to cause a significant blaze! The bodies, however, are very dry and susceptible to the effect!
- Rhyster loads his gun with anti-dead-thing juice!
- Luisila (well, two Luisilas) give Varg a bit of Luck!
- Brachus channels! Wills: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 271d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 They prove more resilient mentally than agile!
- Both mummies stand despite the horrid burns! They let out an eerie moan as Red attempts to slam Varg while Blue can only approach hostile-y! I will need two Will Saves vs Fear from everyone.
Red Slam on Varg (PA): 1d20 + 14 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 14 - 2 = 171d8 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 3 = 14
He proves the scientific fact that "It's difficult to concentrate when you're on fire," missing the blonde, unless he is paralyzed by fear! If Varg does fail either Will, I will also need a Fortitude if that 17 would hit a Paralyzed Varg.
Varg, Aakif, Rhyster, Luisila, Brachus are up!
Mummies
Red: 30*1.5+5=50 sandwiches
Blue: 15+7+5=27 sandwiches

Luisila |
Can't move stuff on the map at the moment.
A ghoul ghast at the look of petrified fear on Cleaver's face, Luisila retreats 15' W-W-N and *casts* Unbreakable Heart on the blond Ulfen.
She *shudders* I never want to see that look on his face again!
On iPad, so can't easily link the spell. It's in the ISWG, GM Burglar. Basically, the spell suppresses mind affecting fear effects for 9 rounds for a 9th level cleric, so I'm thinking Varg should be fine to Cleave away as normal.
Varg down 14 hp
Aakif Hazam |
This is assuming Aakif can act... Otherwise he just stands there and tries to drool heroically.....
Aakif looks annoyed that the undead are still standing. "Sarenrae, please grant our opponents more FIRE!"
Fireball at the mummies once again.
Fireball: 8d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 1, 4, 3, 3, 6) = 23. DC:17 Reflex
GM Burglar |
@Lu: I am familiar with the spell, albeit not a fan in games I have more control over. The last thing Enchantment needs is more low level spells that negate their school's spells of all levels.
Varg is free to act, as I agree with half of the big thread about delaying when paralyzed. It is clearly a mental action, though it would forego the full-round extra saves. Obviously only an issue with Hold Person, but still my Official Burglar Stance. Game needs more teamwork gamble tactics like that, IMO.
More update incoming, likely no mo mums.

Not sure if my saves are high enough, but I have the liberation domain and when I get effected by something that impeded my movement a freedom of movement effect kicks in automatically ,I think this counts for activating that since it paralyzes.
Brachus looks at the holy symbol he's holding in his hand

Varg chops, but only finds rags! The channeled energy channeled directly at the exposed remains proves more than enough to burn it to dust! If it saved, it could have possibly kept standing.
COMBAT END
The mummies have only have filthy, nonmagical, worthless rags as "loot". Not very many folks would probably recommend touching them.
Do note that Cleave in PF is a Standard Action that's a single attack. (This is a change from 3.5's " If you kill it, you get a bonus attack", though the Cleaving Finish tree from Ultimate Combat simulates Cleave Classic.) There was only one mum left anyways, though, it hardly matters since AC was 20 anyways.
