Way up in the West Hills.... sorry, Everclear song's still in my head. The fire from Upsia's scimitar does not seem to burn Aakif - he's at 37/59 hp. Thank you Luisila for the healing updates - much appreciated!

Aakif: The square behind you with the chair is easy terrain; the diagonal square that is entirely encompassed by the table would need an appropriate Jump check to Jump On It. Alternatively, one could Bull Rush/Push/Pull/Reposition it and it'd only provoke from the well-hidden Mimic.
Big post coming soon. Distracted by a combination of Lunch and the indecision between the Daikaiju show and the Classic Series @ Cinemark this week: Full Metal Jacket. I'm leaning towards the movie, but only because I am a fraidey suburban yokel afraid of the big city and its parking nightmare.

Aarghhhh! ☺
Supposedly a lot of the Drill Sergeant’s insults in Full Metal Jacket were ad-libbed. Also the actor who played the bullied recruit later played Detective Goren in Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

GM Burglar |

R. Lee Ermey's lines were almost entirely improvised because he wasn't supposed to be the person playing that part; he was originally there as an adviser. As it turned out, he was so damn good, they just gave him the part. Never seen the movie (which is why this is a tossup), but I'm filled with minor bits of pointless trivia.

Aakif nods his thanks to Brachus for the healing. Aakif searches the woman, first removing weapons, spell components and holy symbols. Then he casts detect magic and starts sorting her gear into piles. Finally he gets rope from his pack and ties up Upsia. Thank you all for not killing her. I remain hopeful that she will return to the light. Maybe after taking her to the Venture Captain, we can take her to the temple.

Given that this is a Cursed Item scenario, I will presume nobody just up and grabbing anything. Do note that identifying a cursed item usually counts as "handling" and "touching" it (though usually not as "using the item.") Feel free to describe how one is handling any items in specific methods, because most cursed items do have cool clauses like that (excluding the "You Touch You Cursed" kind.
Usipia wears concealed mithral breastplate underneath her robes, though they are nonmagical. Her obviously magical flaming scimitar lies on the floor, still burning. Her robes' belt is magic, though her golden holy symbol of Sarenrae (worth 250 gp) is nonmagical.
---
She does, however, spot a piece of headwear that while more common in this region, is probably a bit more suspect than normal...
Ironically, there is no tea (or anything of interest.)

@Aakif, No problem with health status. In a prior game Burglar ran, one of my companions went from near full health to near perma-death in one round! That frightened me quite a bit. It does help if everyone keeps their hp status updated, but we’re all busy running and playing other games – so it’s not a biggie.
Seeing Aakif has Upsia in hand, Luisila *casts* stabilize on the renegade Dawnflorist, taps Aakif with her CLW wand and searches her house.
“That’s one down, four to go. I think we should save our channelling for now. There’s gonna be a lot more fighting yet.”
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Take 10 Perception: 10 + 20 = 30
The half-elf *gasps* as she finds the dead Pathfinder under the floorboards, bearing the markings of Father Skinsaw’s cult.
Luisila calls to the others, “Seems Upsia’s converted to Norborger’s cult, Aakif. Cleaver and I had dealings with those jokers in Absalom. Maybe the Reaper of Reputation’s Cult and the New Shadow Lodge are in partnership?” The Calistrian *shrugs* as she makes Upsia’s eiderdown the messenger’s shroud.
If Luisila can get a read on the belt and scimitar without touching them, she will. Otherwise she’ll leave them insitu on the Imam’s bound body. She also *casts* detect magic.
Spellcraft belt: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Spellcraft scimitar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
“I think we should cart Upsia and the dead Pathfinder back to VC Balentiir. He can sort out his own agent and the cursed item, while we’re doing his dirty work. If we get stopped by the Watch, I think we should tell the truth. A colleague of ours got murdered by a recent convert to Norgorber’s cult. Instead of killing the perp, we’re getting her some help.”
Luisila turns to her companions. “We’re on the clock, so we should hurry to find the next Pathfinder on Balentiir’s list. How about we try the warrior Kaphiri Talarel next? Hopefully Bray and Aakif can persuade him to come with us. Otherwise … I’m sure Cleaver will be able to!”

![]() |

"Thank you for the healing as well, Luisila. Yes, let's take her back... and the messenger. If no one minds, I would like to use Upsia's blade in Sarenrae's service. It was in my hands earlier, so if it's cursed, it should already affect me. We can always return her blade when she comes to her senses. Perhaps the headpiece is the cursed item?.
Aakif detects magic, then scans the rooms. Using a cloak (or blanket, or whatever he can find in the house) he uses his own (non-fiery) scimitar to push the headpiece onto the cloak for transport - being careful not to touch the headpiece.

![]() |

“No problem, Aakif. I must say three clerics plus Cleaver and Ryster has been fun so far. I’ve cooperated with Pathfinder clerics on a number of occasions. Brachus for five missions now (wow!) and also my Sting Sister, Zynep Ravanna.”
Luisila smiles. “Zynep can be a handful but is always good fun, isn’t she Cleaver?”
“Perhaps the headpiece is the cursed item?”.
Luisila lightly *smacks* her forehead. “D’oh! I bet you’re right, Aaakif. Well played.”

GM Burglar |

Spellcraft checks (which require use of Detect Magic) call for the roller to actually hold the item (or "be in your possession", to cite the actual text). As an example from past experiences, one could pick up the Necklace of Strangulation or Mace of Blood and try to ID it with Spellcraft and suffer no drawbacks unless, say, the party fighter tries to figure out what the necklace does by actually putting it on (because we had no Arcane Casters) or the Ranger holds onto the mace long enough to fail the DC13 Will (like what's-his-name almost did.)
IDing lingering auras or as No-Touchy checks is a Knowledge Arcana + Detect Magic.
The headpiece does have a lingering magic aura, but no current power (like some one-use item, akin to a recently-used scroll.)
Also, the group has enough Wisdom between them to know that getting the guard to witness and lock-down this scene BEFORE touching anything in any theft-y manner (which follows rules from the GMG, should you attempt it in-combat. In short, its a really loud diplomacy check, I believe.) The guards are more than accommodating in letting the party take the headdress (since you have the paperwork claiming ownership), but are confused at the methods (given that they have almost no experience in magic items beyond "bring it back to HQ for mage processing.")

GM Burglar |

I see no objections to the next target, and with the matter of kin-of-faith out of the way, I don't forsee many.
The party removes all the magic as the guard begins their thorough investigation into the matter. They ask you don't move the body, but taking the rogue ex-cleric into custody of the the Venture-Captain Balentiir is acceptable so long as he is a trusted member of the community, though they do ask you sign the proper Remote Holding Paperwork, a meager 2-page ordeal for tracking purposes which is more just promising you're not skipping town with a murderer. "Since this case looks pretty open-and-shut, the lieutenant of the squad notes, "I won't hold you up no longer. Just be in the city if we need any tetimonials."
Still while on-schedule, the party goes to both check their next objective's house (since it's on the way) for their no-show. While Khapiri live in the middle-class section east of the Black Dome, his wife is able to tell you he's on patrol in the Malihit Bazaar, in the south-western corner of the city.
Dropping off the Cleric is ALSO on the way and it used to be a jail; how convenient! It doesn't take much extra time at all to secure your Ex-Cleric of Sarenrae away.
--- 730 + 3d20 ⇒ 730 + (4, 19, 2) = 755 7:55 AM ---
The Malhitu Bazaar is a huge open-air market, a sprawling maze of stalls and tents that occupies much of the southeastern corner of central Sothis. Crowds of merchants, craftsmen — locals and foreigners alike — barter goods and services amid a continuous cacophony of haggling. It seems almost anything can be found here, from ancient Osirian antiquities in the largest tents to a wide range of slaves on display at the slave market stockade.
It is quite Difficult to move through the crowds here, barring having a knack for such things. A thief burglar could hide well here...

Everyone but Varg can see the faint glow of a burning dog-like creature crawling out of a temporary portal in the ground, akin to a Summon, next to the Captain of the Guard! Aakif casts blessing of fervor. At the beginning of your turn, you have five options.

Stand as a swift action without provoking
Make an extra attack at your highest BAB
Gain +2 bonus on attacks and a +2 dodge bonus to AC and reflex saves
Cast a spell of 2nd level or lower as if it were enlarged, extended, silent, or still
Hopefully the movement increase will help lessen the effect of the difficult terrain.

Diplomacy isn't going to help much; people aren't quite against getting out of the way, it's more so the "Old Lady Crossing the Street" schtick. Unless the captain seems to be having issues, chances are the grunt soldiers will be handling that.
Fortunately, Luisila is before you in init, so you also know she's not doing anything with a d20 roll. Your gunslinger may be, though, so Guidanc-ing him is also an easy retcon option.
