Johender's head snaps around, words on his lips, a devious look in his eye, and a grin on his face, then reconsiders, snaps his mouth shut, furrows his brow, and returns to the matter at hand.

Looking up at the man on the ship, his hand to his forehead, blocking the scintillating reflection of sunlight dancing on the water, he says. "Aye, look here guv'! The pirate captain looks at you with befuddlement and a little mirth in his eyes. Heh, you guys are truly clueless, huh? I'm the captain of this ship. Name's Darsielle Du Moire of the Chelaxian Du Moires. I'm heaving anchor as soon as my men return. I don't have time to deal with some waterlogged Sahuagin dinner.

Du Moire looks down and roots through a pouch attached to his waist. He pulls out a handful of gold coins and tosses them at the rowboat. A few land in the boat, but most land in the water. There, your lives have been atoned for. Begone with ya before the next volley at your rowboat isn't just coin.

Du Moire turns, talks out of earshot of the Pathfinders and then two men with crossbow come and stand guard at the bow, sneering at you. Du Moire begins to yell to his crew. Raise anchor, set the sails, shivver me timbers! Katiya and her ilk are dead to me. We move on!

P.S. - You diplomacized him successfully, but that just took him to Indifferent.

Boarding the ship is difficult. The PCs need to locate a suitable boarding spot or have decent Climbing skills. A DC 13 Climb check proves sufficient to scale the anchor line(provided the individual can reach it) while it takes a DC 25 to scale the ship’s curved sides (using a rope and grappling hook reduces the Climb check to DC 5).

Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Raavan begins his raging song. Read specifics below, but the basics are that it grants a morale bonus of +2 Str and +2 Con and +1 to Will Saves, but penalizes AC by -1. Like barbarian rage it prevents certain actions that require concentration, but you can accept or decline the song round-by-round.

Raging Song (Su):

A skald is trained to use the Perform skill to inspire allies (including himself, if so desired) to feats of strength and ferocity. He can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to 3 + his Charisma modifier. At each level after 1st, a skald can use raging song for 1 additional round per day.

Starting a raging song is a standard action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. A raging song cannot be disrupted, but it ends immediately if the skald is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action each round to maintain it. A raging song counts as the bard’s bardic performance special ability for any effect that limits bardic performances, such as how many can be maintained at once.

A raging song has audible components, but not visual components. Affected allies must be able to hear the skald for the song to have any effect. A deaf skald has a 20% chance to fail when attempting to use a raging song. If he fails this check, the attempt still counts against his daily limit. Deaf creatures are immune to raging songs. At the start of each ally’s turn in which they can hear the raging song, the skald’s allies must decide whether to accept or refuse its effects (this is not an action); unconscious allies automatically accept the song. Affected allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saves, but also take a –1 penalty to AC. While under the effects of raging song, allies cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.

Antonella falls into the water with a splash.

Need a DC 15 Swim check in order to stay above water and a DC 10 Climb check to get back into the rowboat. Alternately, you could use your Swim check to move to the anchor point and climb that rope into the ship.

Seriously! Traps on the railing? Wouldn't the grappling hooks have sprung them? This scenario is a real piece of sh@!

Also, Raavan had to use a standard action to begin the rage song. Would he have made it to the railing with a single movement?

Since you are supposed to use grappling hooks to get on the boat, I decided that you wouldn't trip them, otherwise the trap is pointless. The boat is about 10-15' away, so if you move 30'/move action then you would get to the railing. Plus, it affects anyone on the ropes not just those at the railing.

This scenario is hilarious, btw. It's just throws cheap shot after cheap shot. Haha.

@Raavan/Wembly: Next round, you can throw him a line and make a Strength check (DC 10) to aid him on his swim and climb. Since the rope isn't anchored and a water-logged Raavan weighs significantly more than Wembly climbing the rope will be a... DC 13? (This would include the aid by Wembly). It wouldn't apply this round as Climb is done as part of a move and failing a Swim check means you can't move. If Wembly successfully aided you this round, you still would have failed your Swim check.

How far down is Raavan? If he could have reached him last round, Johender would have just used the Touch of the Sea wand.

Does Raging Song give bonus HP? If so, how much?

I believe it gives +2 CON, so +1 hp/level.

@GM Bold Strider, is it OK if I use the attack I posted last round?

Antonella attacks the southern pirate.

Imp Unarmed Strike + Bless + raging Song: 11 + 5 + 1 + 1 = 18 have not included the +2 for flanking
damage + song: 3 + 2 = 5

Johendar goes before Raavan. Any chance of that touch of the sea spell saving his rear end this round?

@Raavan/Johendar: Uhh, sure, why not. Johendar can Touch of the Sea you this round. Didn't have him do it last round because you went underwater from the failed Swim check.

@Antonella: Sure.

"Move up or back Kobald!" Johender tells the halfling, then moves up and reaches down to touch Raavan with the wand.

"My thanks Jo!" Raavan withdraws from the shark and grabs a rope to climb up to the ship...

Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 Or not...

..but the damn thing pulls right off the railing.

Oh, was I supposed to tie the rope to something?.

@Wembly: You could if you want. DC 10 Strength or DC 15 Escape Artist sound fair?

@Raavan: No luck...

I was half kidding with Ravaans check a nat 1. Those seem fair. .

Wembly continues to help Ravaan for as long as he is drowning.

"Hold on. Almost there ."
str : 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13

As the eagle will full attack with claws and bite or charge a new opponent if the current one falls.

I did not roll attacks for the bird since wembly is not actively directing and I was not sure if one or three attacks needed .

I'm hoping someday I can look back on this debacle and laugh.
