Trevor the Yellow |
That's one reason I wanted to do it. I want better experience at the higher levels.
GM Blood |
Good job everyone! Your characters have survived this chapter and time to move on to chapter 3. For now however your characters have some down time. I will post a larger wrap up tomorrow, but for now I will assume you will fix the elevator with spells and head up. When you get there Ragnolin has fled town and with the evidence down below he will be a wanted man.
Kelkzar Redjaw |
Excellent, great work everyone! May have to take a trip to Magnimar or send for some items during down time.
Great GMing GM Blood! We definitely had some challenging fights during that chapter. Looking forward to the next one.
Trevor the Yellow |
Yes, great job GM Blood!
Quintus of Taldor |
Likewise. This is an interesting AP, and you're doing an excellent job with it, GM B.
Quintus' first priority (after everyone's rested) is to talk to the families of the cultists who could be identified and make sure they get the bodies back. He'll discuss the matter with the Pharasmin clergy and Allustan first, but this is a personal thing. Second, he's going to bless some water and take it back down into the mine, along with everything he needs to cast consecrate at least three times, and clean out the temples. Loot distribution is a distant third on his priority list, because he still doesn't really trust himself with money even though he's doing much better.

So I'm putting the finishing touches on the spreadsheet, but I thought I should mention how it works, because it's built for a specific philosophy of treasure division. I find the philosophy more organic than straight math, as it assumes that the characters are each going to pick items based on whether they want them, not because they have x gold to "spend" on the captured loot that is their share.
Here's how it works: all the treasure (items, gold, gems, etc.) are placed in a huge virtual "pile" with their gp values. Characters choose items they want, and those items are added to the "pot" at full value. Once the items everybody wants have been put into the pot, the rest of the stuff gets put in at whatever percentage they managed to sell them for. So in order to determine share size, the full values of items they keep and the percentage they sell are added together and divided by the number of people (6). The system also takes into account people trading in their old equipment for new.
I've seen other systems, but they don't take into account the possibility of selling for more than 50% of market value with a good Diplomacy roll, and they assume that the characters all know exactly how much they are going to get for everything before splitting stuff up, and only splitting stuff up based on math, not need or desire.
The downside to the system (and I admit it is a biggie) is that there's no way of knowing just how big the shares are until everything has been kept or sold! Certainly as things are assigned, you can see everybody's standings taking shape, and folks can realize that they are in serious danger of over-spending what their share is likely to be. The reason you can't know the share sizes is that if, for example, there's a handaxe in the pot (market value 6 gp) and the group decides to sell it, everybody's share of it is 0.5 gp, whereas if they keep it, everybody's share is 1 gp. There person who took the handaxe owes 1gp to the other five characters. The shares are bigger because there's more value in the item since it was kept.

Okay...folks can have a look-see here
It should work if you use the link. GM Blood, please add this link to the campaign page. The url is https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuYFD_r9Ch_GdGZkbWRJckZUcXBla2 JlRmZMSjNYREE#gid=0
Please don't edit anything in fields that are blue or orange. If you see some items from the list that you've claimed, select your name from the drop down list.

I tend to view low-level consumables like curing potions or scrolls as party loot, which doesn't get added to the pot. We simply spread that stuff around and delete it from the "loot list".
Agreed?
Also, the stuff with the red background needs to be identified.
GM Blood |
Rowena, requested access

Kelkzar Redjaw |
Ok, I'm done for now. I was actually fighting with the +1 greataxe, but the falchion is a better weapon for Kelkzar because of the crit range. Plus he's more familiar with it :) I think there will probably still be enough gold for Kelkzar to buy a +1 falchion. Otherwise, he'll plan on selling the composite longbow that he is currently keeping to help make sure there is enough gold to do so.
EDIT: BTW, looks like we're going to be a lot further behind Wealth by Level than I would have thought after all of that. I haven't looked at everyone's total considering fights before the mines, but Kelkzar's only significant items are going to be the Composite Longbow +3 Strength (400 gp), the Lamellar armor (150 gp) he started with, and the +1 Falchion (2375 gp)assuming he's able to buy that. Throw in another 75 gp of miscellaneous equipment and he's going to be around 3000 gp versus a WBL of 10,500.
GM Blood |
I would expect you to be a little behind in wealth right now due to six characters. When I run I usually bump the characters up to be a little more powerful but keep the WbL down a little to compensate especially at the lower level.. That seems a little farther back than I would like, but I think you guys will be fine for a bit longer as is. Now I think after a couple more levels things will shift a bit and you guys will be a lot closer.
Quintus of Taldor |
Yeah, I don't think either Kelkzar or Trevor suffers from a lack of ability to bring the pain, though it helps a lot that Rowena's in there throwing people around.
I'd noticed the lack of level-appropriate equipment, too, when I realized that Quintus doesn't even have a masterwork weapon yet (or did he get a mw crossbow? I don't remember). He's had a stat-boost item for three or four levels, though. That reminds me, GM B--any sign that Zosiel's circlet does anything else? Allustan commented on that possibility when it was identified.

Be patient with that Quintus, it is not forgotten!
Remember that you guys were essentially trapped below from levels 3 to 5. With some downtime and some money, you should be able to send away to Magnimar for some of the things you want. There should be a fair amount of coin in your pockets
Jirin Tupel |
Access requested.
I'm really enjoying this game as well; or at least, as much as the dice roller will let me when I miss on Touch attacks! :D
The IC down time will be good for Jirin; she has a lot to learn about just what all is going on with the plot and with her own Witch stuff since right now she's just been watching and learning where she's been lucky enough to not have to trial-by-error.
Rauno Redpath |
Access requested as well.
One thing that may help with the lower wealth at the moment is the fact that Rauno has both Craft Wondrous Items and Craft Magic Arms and Armor feats, both of which he is willing to use freely for his friends.
The only thing I would try to hold on to with stubborn determination is that lesser rod of metamagic: extend. Being able to make that Haste go 10 rounds instead of 5 is just too good to pass up.

Kelkzar, so far I've barely done any treasure division, other than to include coins and gems, along with the few items people have already claimed. At the moment, individual shares are at 4000+, and there's still a TON of stuff to sell.
For the generic equipment, like armour and mundane weapons, shall I assume resale of 50%, and save haggling with Diplomacy for the jewelry and finer items? It certainly makes things easier, and I can't see us getting any more than half for the everyday stuff.
Edit: after doing what I just said in the previous paragraph, everybody's shares are now 5400+. We're going to be quite loaded by the time we're all done here.
Kelkzar Redjaw |
I see looking at it again that there are a bunch that we will probably sell with "Nobody" attributed. I thought they all had "Sold" or one of our names (except in cases where it was a group item)
Trevor the Yellow |
Trevor, if possible, would claim the plate +1 and the greataxe +1.
Trevor the Yellow |
There were two MW, but I remember only one +1, which Kelkzar used. I have a shortsword +1, available if I get the axe.
Kelkzar Redjaw |
I considered rolling for the +1 axe with you Trevor, but it would really be much better for Kelkzar to purchase a +1 falchion. The critting potential should help him. I think we can probably sell the shortsword unless Jirin wants to grab it as a backup.
Kelkzar Redjaw |
Oops, got the note too late and looks like you guys have wrapped up. I'd say we destroy the idols and other symbols of the evil cults. That seems consistent with how we have acted so far.
Trevor the Yellow |
Was the shortsword from before the mines?
I think so...
