DM Bigrin |

The boy looked Yelena strangely. "I know you. You're one of the militia, ain't you? We don't live in no village, just a pig farm. Where do you think your bacon rashers come from? Ain't no room in Trunau for a hundred pigs!" The boy looked at Yelena as if he thought she might be sick int he head...or maybe just stupid.

![]() |

"I think I recognize him. He's fine," Quill asserts, offering his own waterskin.
"Are you sure you don't want to go back now? I can walk you out of here."
Quill is happy to continue with him, but wants to make sure.
Some thug want to open the other door?

Mariana Trellis |

"Quill, the last time you decided to rush off...you were very lucky. Do you think splitting up is the best of ideas again? Either we all go, or we all stay, I think..."
With that, she checks the last door they have come to for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
If Trap found(Yeah, right...): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
After, if door locked: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Molly Blackfoot |

"Yer better off hanging out with us at least until we get back to town, kid," Molly tells Othdan - but she glances at Quill, too. "Wouldn't want to walk out of here just to saunter right into this Half-Orc Johnny's arms or his dagger, right?"

Storn of Gorum |

Not really having much skill with children or language, Storn just stays back, listening as the group speak with the child. He finally speaks.
"I doubt we have too much more to look at here. Let's finish up keep Othdan here with us. We'll see what we can figure out about this half-orc of yours."

DM Bigrin |

I'm not going to bother putting a non-combatant on the map for now. Othdan will stay with you for now
Mariana checked the door and motioned for Storn to do the honors. The big man burst through the door with his usual enthusiasm to find a large room filled with statues of different celestial heroes in every corner. A fire pit in the center of the room is bordered on all sides by bedrolls, while shovels, picks, and other digging equipment lie strewn about a shallow tunnel bored into the northern wall. The ceiling above the tunnel has collapsed, leaving a hole open to the sky above a pile of burnt rubble. The only other exit from this room is a door on the southern wall.

![]() |

Quill looks in the room, wondering the same things that Molly asks.
"Wait...is that hole going towards the town? Are they trying to dig *under* the town and walls?!" Quill asks, seeming quite alarmed.
"That would have been disastrous if they had completed this. If we were attacked..."
I assume, at least, that it's in the direction of town...northern wall and all.
Quill moves to C6 and ganders about.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 Perception

DM Bigrin |

Quill, it would indeed be headed towards the southern escarpment and walls of Trunau.
Quill looked around while musing about the possible goal of the collapsed tunnel. He noticed that while the bedrolls were fairly new, in comparison to the rest of the room's contents, they hadn't been used for several days. Small holes had been chewed into them in places, and rodent droppings littered the tops.
As Molly pointed out the magic source, Quill moved up and peered in that direction, spotting a pair of boots with legs still attached sticking out of the rubble.

Mariana Trellis |

Mariana moves into the room and begins searching around.
As they aren't in a huge hurry, she takes her time.
Take 20 for a 27

Storn of Gorum |

Storn smirks over at Molly and stomps his way over to the rubble. He begins clearing it out to unearth whoever is trapped beneath it.

DM Bigrin |

Mariana 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Molly 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Quill 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Storn 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Vashta 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Yelena 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
enemy 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Storn stomped to the rubble pile and grabbed a shovel to start unearthing the covered body. It took a few minutes of hard work, but Storn managed to struggle through it. Finally, with most of the rubble moved out of the way, Storn bent and grabbed the legs by the ankles and pulled. There was some resistance, and then the body pulled free.
The body Storn dragged out was a large half-orc male, dressed in chainmail. Its hand was firmly attached to a morningstar clipped to his belt. As Storn dragged it free, the body twitched. Storn dropped the legs in surprise and the half-orc stood with a low moan. Only Quill was fast enough to respond as the creature stood.

Storn of Gorum |

Storn stumbles back, fumbling for his sword.
"Good news, orc! I know which leg I'm going to beat you to death with!"

Molly Blackfoot |

"Lovely!" Molly says, grinning. "In that case, we can go into this meeting with an open mind and open heart. Quill, would you be so kind as to extend the hand of friendship to our new acquaintance on our joint behalf?"

Round 1
Quill darts forward, moving as the stands already untrusting the situation, before the halforc can act. Move to D11.
From D11, he fires his longbow at the halforc's back, fueled by his inbred natural hatred of orcs.
1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 23 to hit; (+PBS, +Enemity)
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 damage.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Know (Religion) - undead?

DM Bigrin |

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Quill, recognizing the creature as a zombie, moved quickly to put it between himself and the others. A clear lane of fire is always preferable to trying to shoot around someone as big as Storn. The arrow plunged into the back of the creature, but simply fell back out again. The creature struck out with its morningstar at Storn, smashing the spiked head into the man's left side.

Quill watches his arrow nearly go out the other side and strike Storn.
"Oh yeah, it's a zombie!" Quill reminds others. "Arrows don't work so good. It's already dead."

Storn of Gorum |

Hp: 3/10
Storn is almost knocked flat by the power of the zombie's morning star, but the enormous Kellid is very ready to respond. Yanking out his greatsword, Storn roars loudly as blood streams down his face. Gripping his sword two-handed, he swings it straight down for the zombie's collar in an attempt to bifurcate the undead menace.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Storn and Yelena both launch blows at the zombie, but the nice-looking chainmail it was wearing turned their blows. It lunged again at Storn, but was off balance from the blows it had taken, and missed badly.

Seeing that her opportunity is now, she rushes forward, slipping her blade from it's hidden strap into her palm once more. Stepping next to Storn, she does what she knows is best...and aids her companion.
Aid: 1d20 ⇒ 14
With calm words, as she slashes at the creature to draw it's gaze, she says, "There! Use that opening and end it!"
Aid for +2 to hit

Molly Blackfoot |

"Have to get lucky with this some time," Molly mutters as she pulls the trigger on her crossbow. Hit or miss, she then slams her bayonet into place and looks for another opening.
Molly fires her crossbow: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 for 1d6 ⇒ 6 damage and then sets her bayonet in place.

Round 2
Seeing that his arrows are useless, Quill reaches for the ceremonial dagger at his neck. He steps into flank (C10) and slashes at the zombie while providing flank for Storn.
1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 1 + 2 = 19 to hit; (flank)
1d4 ⇒ 3 damage.

Vashta Denaria |

Vashta edges closer to the zombie and tosses her net at it.
Move to E-6
She has a -4 for using a weapon she's not proficient in; I think it probably should have another -4 too, though, for throwing it into melee. If so, it misses; if not, then ... she still probably misses, but maybe not.
Net (ranged touch): 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 10

Storn of Gorum |

Storn grins, despite the blood pouring down his face as Quill moves in.
"Hah! That's it, we move as one to defeat the enemy!"
Attack+Flank: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 3) + 4 = 12
With another mighty swing, Storn misses entirely.

Mariana Trellis |

"That means you have to actually swing in the direction of the creature, my friend," Mariana says with a wink.

DM Bigrin |

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
3d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 6, 1) + 7 = 20
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
In what seemed like a comedy of errors, the companions tried to finish off the zombie. Mariana moved up beside Storn to help him with the undead monster. As she did, Vashta threw her net, catching Mariana on the back of the head. The weighted ends of the net caused Mariana to jostle Yelene, whose hammer hooked over Storn's blade as the man raised it high for a strike. The only one to land a blow was Quill, whose hopeknife did little damage. The zombie roared and lashed out at Storn again, landing a heavy blow with its morningstar. The warrior went down in a bloody heap, and the zombie sounded off again.
Storn takes 10 damage, which puts him at -7, I believe.

Vashta 17
Mariana 8
Storn 5 (dying)

Yelena 5
Quill 22

Amazing.
Round 3
Quill watches the big warrior fall with mixed feelings...on one hand, it's more quiet and there is less yelling, on the other hand if Storn couldn't handle the zombie, what hope does Quill have?
"Uh...I got this, don't worry," Quill utters without any confidence. He waits for someone to come into flank before striking again with his dagger.
1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5 to hit; (flank)
1d4 ⇒ 3 damage.

Mariana Trellis |

Stepping back with a quick movement 5' step Mariana takes her attention from the creature and onto her companion. A clatter is heard as her dagger falls to the ground and she flicks her other wrist and a scroll appears. Kneeling down, she begins to whisper the magic from the scroll and reaches out to touch Storn.
Swift to eject scroll of CLW, cast CLW on Storn.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Whispering "Sometimes the better part of valor is to stay down. I can't promise I can do that again..."

Storn of Gorum |

"RAAAAAH--"
WHACK
A loud crack sounds and Storn's head snaps to the side as the zombie sweeps out with its morningstar. The Gorumite crashes to the ground in a pool of blood, not moing.

Molly Blackfoot |

"This is not a nice day," Molly sighs as she edges around, trying to escape the zombie's notice - and jabs at the zombie with her bayonet. Alas, she misses...
Molly moves to D10 and attacks with the bayonet: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 damage.

Vashta Denaria |

"We're a regular set of raga lizards, running around in the darkness," Vashta mutters, stepping up and grabbing Storn's leg to drag him away from the creature.
5-ft. step to D-7, then drag Storn back 5 ft. (so he'll end up in D-7, and I'll still be in E-7.
Drag CMB, if needed (he's presumably unconscious/not unwilling): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10

DM Bigrin |

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Vaastha dragged Storn back out of danger, and Mariana used some healing magic to bring the severely injured warrior back to consciousness. The others tried to kill the zombie, but only Yelena managed to do any significant damage. As Quill reached in to slash at the zombie, it turned on him. Quill managed to jump out of the way of the thing's swing, but it was close.

"Enough's enough," Molly grumbles as she jabs at the zombie again. "Down you go!"
Another bayonet-attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 damage.
Well, I'm getting better than 10 on my attack rolls now, at least...

Round 4
Quill attacks again with his dagger, wondering how long he will last against this unkillable zombie.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 to hit;
1d4 ⇒ 1 damage.

Storn of Gorum |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Storn groans as the healing magic courses through him. He opens his eyes and looks around blearily. Fumbling around, he finds a tooth in the ground and shoves it into his mouth.
"Mph. Not mine."
Spitting out the tooth, Storn crawls to his feet.
"Gorum lækna mig!"
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Some of his wounds close up a little bit. Storn grumbles something.
Hp: 5/10
Move action to stand, standard to cast CLW.

Mariana Trellis |

Reaching behind her, she draws out her back-up dagger and takes a quick step forward, putting herself between the creature and Storn...hopeful, but doubtful he will take the hint. Then she waits for him to do something stupid.
As soon as Storn rushes into combat, Mariana will slash out at the creature, attempting to draw it's attention once more, though this time to throw it's attacks off. Aid another for AC to Storn
1d20 ⇒ 4 or not.

DM Bigrin |

Yelena's longhammer smashed down on the zombie's head, driving the creature down to the ground, where it finally stopped moving. Searching the finally still half-orc zombie, you find it wearing a nice suit of chainmail and carrying a dagger with exquisite scrollwork. It also had a wand and on a chain an unholy symbol of a dark god. In a pouch at its belt, it has 6 dark onyx gems and a small handful of coins.
It is an unholy symbol of Nulgreth, the Blood God.

![]() |

Quill kneels down to search what is left of the body after Yelena's slam. He holds up the unholy symbol, taking a glance at it before passing it on.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 Know (Rel)
"Oooh...Nulgreth, the Blood God. That's pretty crazy, huh?" Quill says, reaching for more of the zombie's loot and passing it along.
He lays out the loot in case others want to look at it.
