The door opens and a stranger walks in surveys the room and looks at Philgor. "May I join you lad?" Without waiting for an answer he drops his pack and kicks it under the table and then sits down. "My name is Julio", he stated.
Philgor smiles at the man and raising his up cup in salute. "I am Philgor". The man waves over the barmaid and orders food and drink for himself and another cup of ale for Philgor.
"Thank you sir. I can see that you are new in town. Are you passing through or have you come to help us hold back the hordes that plague our region."
"I am not sure yet, but this town seem more welcoming than any I have seen lately. Between the burned out villages and those who won't let strangers enter, this is a nice change."
"I understand", Philgor replies, "People around these parts all have stories of lost friends and loved ones. It makes them wary of anyone from outside their small circle. Even I lost everyone when giants attacked my village. I was not there when the attack began but when I finally arrived it was too late to save anyone. My father and uncle were killed and my mother and sisters were marched off with the giants. I came here since I had nowhere else to go. The town adopted me and I do my best to help protect it. Someday I hope find those giants and make them pay for what they did to my family."
The stranger nods his head. The look in his eyes saying that he too knows about the loss of loved ones. After a few moments he states, "I have a similar tale but it was many years ago. I hunted down those who caused my pain and extracted my revenge upon them. It was a short lived happiness. When it was done they were dead and I was still alive and still grieving the loss of my family. Now I am on the run from those who would extract revenge upon me for their loss."
The food and drink arrived. The stranger finished his meal in silence, gathered up his belongings. As he left he thanked Philgor for the company and said, "Do not let revenge consume you lad, for it will destroy you in the end. Better to seek the return of your family if they still live. You have a long life ahead of you. I will see you around town for I have decided to stay here for awhile and rest my tired feet."
Philgor said goodbye and watched the man leave pondering about the man's tale and advice.

Mariana Trellis |
Mariana is an inquisitive girl who has spent her entire life learning different things. She has picked up a lot of seemingly useless information. As such, I see her as the purest of knowledge of monkeys. Her role in the party will be flexible and as such, her first level is in bard (archaeologist archetype). I MIGHT multi-class her to fit her into a role that is needed, as it becomes apparent that something is needed. Otherwise, she will flit about, and support combat where she can and be the ultimate in out of combat characters. If it becomes apparent that we need more casting support, I may shift her to more of a primary caster. If she needs to contribute more to combat, I'll likely go the archer route. OR, I might give her a couple of levels in Swashbuckler and make her an agile melee combatant. It really depends on what her studies show her. She is adaptable, ultimately, which is what she raised to be (more on that shortly).
Mariana was born to a wealthy and well thought of family in Andoran. She was the youngest child to her father and as such, he gave her everything she ever wanted...which was mostly books. There was always something odd about her upbringing though. Her father always pushed for her to be able to pick up information easily just by listening. Often times, he would ask her to sit and read while meetings were going on. And that if she heard anyone having a conversation to pick up anything they said. It was almost as if she was spying on them.
He also taught her how to get into things she should not. For a former noble and a well thought of man, he always seemed to be teaching her things of a 'darker' nature. (Vagabond Child trait)
When she was fifteen, she finally figured out why. Her father wasn't just a member of the elect in Andoran and lesser officer in the military, he was the leader of Twilight Talons, a group of spies and assassins that worked outside of the government's 'knowledge'. And her father had been training her to join them. She freaked and bolted, seeking anywhere that would take the runaway. She managed to tell stories that she had picked up from reading to fund her travels and get her to the city at the center of the world. Once in Absolom, she went to the Grand Lodge and applied to join the Pathfinder Society.
Three years later, the young Artifact Hunter (Giantslayer Trait) is now looking to set out on her own and find new ruins to write about. She had written her father once she was accepted into the Society and while she had expected him to be upset, he was instead proud of her dedication and hard work (she was a Daddy's girl, after all). To commemorate her Confirmation, he sent her a small stipend to help her prepare for her journeys, saying he knew that Pathfinders were not paid well and she would likely need it. (Rich Parents trait)
Now, with her backing from her parents, she was lucky enough to pick her first assignment...largely because without her finding something to do, the Society wasn't sure when they would have an assignment for her, so better for her to do something other than flit around the library for another three years. It really made her feel as if she was gifted by the gods, since luck was always with her (Fate's Favored trait).
Now, she finds herself in Trunau, Wayfinder in hand, seeking knowledge and unexplored ruins...and people who might be willing to travel with her, in case she gets into trouble.
She is quite driven to make a name for herself as a Pathfinder agent who contributes. In doing so, she hopes to show her father that she took the lessons he taught her and did something with them. Unfortunately, there are those among the Twilight Talons that believe she knows too much, so they may seek to silence her at some point. She really just wants to find new and lost knowledge and help those that help her.
I have been playing on Paizo for nearly 2 years. I have done free form RP online since '97. I am a 3 star PFS GM and I GM an AP (Skulls & Shackles) online, as well as a one player pbp with my wife (Rise of the Runelords).
The young woman moved through the tavern quietly. It was her usual stance to find a quiet place to watch, listen, and learn. She always wanted to be very aware of her surroundings before committing herself to anything.
Watching quietly, she takes a deep breath as a server girl comes over to her, "Oh, I will have a simple wine, if you have one...preferably something Andoran." She trails off as she pulls out a notebook and a quill and begins to take notes.
She is eventually given a glass of red, which she barely looks at, just keeping track of the comings and goings of the tavern.
Finally, a man walks up to her and she nods, "May I help you, sir?"
The older man gives her a shrug, "Perhaps, but that remains to be seen. May I have a seat?"
Mariana gives him a nod and raises her left hand to offer him a place at her table, "By all means. I do not own the place, nor would I hope to ostracize myself by making you unwelcome. So please, have a seat..."
The older man smiles as he has a seat and the scratches his bearded chin, looking to her book, then to the Wayfinder at her waist, and then up to her. "Now, we don't get many of your kind around here, so what brings you to Trunau?"
Mariana's brown eyes follow the man's grey orbs and then she follows back to his face and grins, "Well that's...interesting. I was not expecting my presence to be noted so quickly...but yes, I don't believe many of my order find their way here." She takes a moment and puts away her pen, then closes her book. Taking a deep breath, she returns her gaze to the man and then drums her fingers on the cover of the book she had been writing in. "Well, I guess it's simple enough...I knew that very few of my order had been in this area...and I thought I might be able to find a few things to write about here. Heck, there is no way to be sure if there is even any information on Trunau in the Society's records, so I will be able to bring that information at the very least." She pauses, looking down, then slowly she looks back up to him, "I'm hoping to find something big...to have some big discovery so that I might make the Pathfinder Journal...or get added to the archives. I would like to make a name for myself among the Pathfinders so that I might make my father proud. He didn't get the child he wanted, but I would like to give him one that he is proud of, at the very least..." she trails off, not sure why she had just revealed that of herself so readily.

@Senza - As much as I would like to run 2 groups, I am afraid I don't have the time to dedicate to that. I have 2 long-running campaigns going already, plus I am playing in a few more. I couldn't dedicate the time necessary to all if I tried to run more than 1 more campaign. That's not to say that I might not pick up a second group down the line if my RL situation allows.
@Crag, Sqyzl, Tatsuo, Szacha, and Mariana - I haven't had a chance to send you comments yet, but I will do so over the next day or two. You aren't going to be dinged for anything that I may or may not have relayed to you.

No worries. We appreciate you taking the time for even one group.

Whew! That's a whole lot better than the alternative, "Everyone should have received my comments... oh, except that 'Crag' guy..."
