GM Bauers |
I'm not sure when I'll get to post with the stat block available tomorrow, and I don't think Inira can do much to stop the minotaur this round, so I'm going to post the Minotaur's turn. But Inira's turn is actually first. This way after Inira takes her first turn you can all go and not have to wait for me to move your characters on the map.
damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 6) + 4 = 16
2nd axe attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6) + 4 = 13
Gore: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
The bull-man awkwardly swings the broken axe at the stalwart halfling. She ducks one strike, but then catches a blow to the chest, crumpling to the ground.
Her noble sacrifice and bravery in the face of overwhelming odds stirs something within you. Her lingering performance means you still get Inspire Courage for 2 rounds.
Janira: at -5 HP, unconscious, dying
Next up: Inira (hers resolves before Minotaur's turn), then all of the party (including Inira again)
Inira McCullagh |
You are correct - basically, Inira is double moving to get into range of her bow.
Inira moves quickly to find a position from which she can lend some support.
Silas Proth |
Silas can just barely make out the events of the battle in the dim light, but he sees enough to watch Janira fall with a sickening crunch to the ground. "JANIRAAA!"
Spending a double move towards the log. Aside from dodging the trees, I'm not sure which squares count as difficult terrain so feel free to move me back if I can't go that far.
Eleanor Savet |
Eleanor sprints Run Action south between the two trees near Inira, and attempts to long-jump the stream.
Jump!: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 2 - 4 = 0
Acrobatics to avoid a face-plant!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
SPLAT!
Acel Odair |
Acel quickly enchants and creates a illusion of 5 female halflings, similar to Janira approaching from "behind" to protect their fallen ally (and stall for time). After casting, Acel pulls out her shortbow.
I added 5 white squares to the map to represent the illusion. Will DC 13 to disbelieve.
Tsadok the Crimson |
Tsadok keeps running (well, double moving) towards the log, and begins to cross the river rushing below.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (5) + 1 - 3 = 3
Ok, so I got to the log but made no progress.
"I declare you to be under the judgement of Gorum! Tsadok proclaims in a roaring voice. "Yield or die!" Without waiting for or expecting a response, he is spurred to righteous fury by his deity.
GM Bauers |
You are correct - basically, Inira is double moving to get into range of her bow.
Inira moves quickly to find a position from which she can lend some support.
You actually get two turns since you technically went before the minotaur. So you can go again.
GM Bauers |
I'm not sure I communicated this good enough, but all of the green part is difficult terrain. So I moved everyone to where I think you should be. Acel, good news that you're not in the river, right? ;-) You can't run in difficult terrain. Inira gets one more turn, then it's the bull.
Acel Odair |
Here's hoping the Minotaur makes a crappy Will save! Then it's arrow time!
Oh! The illusion spell DC is 14, not 13. I forgot Gnomes get a +1 to Illusion spell DCs
GM Bauers |

Whoops, I missed your above post. So you should be back by the cave exit, right? Standard to cast, move to draw weapon.
GM Bauers |
We'll give Inira a few more hours, then one of you can bot her.
Eponine Lokrien Savet |
Inira decides it is better to use her bow while the creature is not otherwise engaged in melee combat. It makes targeting easier.
To Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Waki Huro |
Since she only took one shot and did not flurry, she could make a move to get closer as well.
GM Bauers |
But as an archer, does she WANT to move closer to the minotaur ;-)
Strength check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
The minotaur sniffs in the direction of the "halflings", but the arrow flying past him draws his attention. Despite the strength of the current, the massive creatures walks through the river, axe raised high.
Next up: Party
Waki Huro |
Waki Huro, seeing the bull-man cross the river, will draw his sling and Fire a shot.
Sling: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23
for dmg: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Eleanor Savet |
Eleanor spends a point from her Arcane Reservoir to summon a creature with her Occultist ability.
Eagle Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Eagle Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Eagle Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
"Acel, may I have that wand? The fire one?" Eleanor asks in Sylvan.
If Acel agrees, Eleanor uses her Move Action to take the wand from him
Eagle added to the map between our archer, Inira, in the hopes it keeps her safe from the Minotaur
GM Bauers |
Eleanor, Summon Monster is a one round casting time. Since your ability is a SLA, it should take a round to use as well, as far as I know. So you can start casting, but the eagle doesn't show up until just before your next turn.
Acel Odair |
"Acel, may I have that wand? The fire one?" Eleanor asks in Sylvan. If Acel agrees, Eleanor uses her Move Action to take the wand from him
Eagle added to the map between our archer, Inira, in the hopes it keeps her safe from the Minotaur
"Huh? Oh yeah, you can have it. Never got a chance to burn those oozes before."
Acel hands Eleanor over the wand. That should be her move action, right?
"Well, now or never." Acel mumbles as she fires her shortbow.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Silas Proth |
Silas will draw his sword and double move toward the minotaur, though since it's difficult terrain he can't get very far in one turn.
GM Bauers |
Waki Concealment, low bad: 1d100 ⇒ 44
Despite the shadows in the moonlight, Waki hears a solid thud sees the minotaur rear back in pain as the rock strikes the creature on the elbow. Eleanor and Tsadok cast spells, and Acel sends what looks to be a solid bow shot at the huge foe, but the arrow shatters against its hide. Silas, unafraid, advances on the minotaur to help Inira.
Remember guys, it's dim light out here. So unless you use a light source to change that, or have darkvision, you suffer a 20% miss chance due to concealment. Also, Janira's inspire courage is lingering for this round as well, so Waki actually did 6 damage.
Acel, I corrected your position as you could get one move before you fire, since we determined you didn't move last round. And Silas, I moved you on the map per your turn's instructions. Did you want to Smite Evil against the minotaur?
Next up: Inira, Minotaur
Minotaur: -6 hp
Acel Odair |
Gnomes have low light vision, so do I suffer a penalty in the dim moonlight? Also, I forgot to factor Inspire Courage, but I doubt AC 11 will hit.
Eleanor Savet |
Inira McCullagh |
The sudden change of events has Inira back on her heels. She scrambles to be as defensive as possible.
+4 AC for total defense = 23 AC.
Tsadok the Crimson |
Shield of Faith still giving me +3 to AC.
"Anyone who wants to get near it, get ready!" Tsadok yells. He has a plan, and does not like it. Overtaking Silas, (he was supposed to be to the right of Silas last turn but was not moved) he hustles through the trees, deliberately provoking a strike from the beast as he approaches. Should he stay conscious, he will try to slash at the minotaur, but his main goal is accomplished. He has drawn its attention long enough for the others to get between its flailing limbs and weapons.
Tsadok SMASH: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
Yes, I am trolling for Combat Reflexes. And the last time I did that, the creature had it and smashed my potion of CSW. That was sad.
GM Bauers |
Sorry Eleanor, my mistake. I'll put the eagle back. Unless the minotaur kills it immediately. ;-) It did scratch the minotaur a few times.
The minotaur swings its axe first at the eagle, winking it out of existence, then focuses its efforts on Inira, who deftly dodges.
Tsadok (whose next round's action was already posted--all of the green is difficult terrain, so no attack allowed, though you would have missed anyway) advances on the creature to draw its attention and succeeds. It nearly decapitates him with the axe, but it is as if Gorum himself intervenes to parry the blade.
First attack on Eagle: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 5) + 4 = 15
Second attack on Inira: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 4 = 10
Gore vs Inira: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
AoO vs Tsadok: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 4) + 4 = 13
Next up: All of you except Tsadok, who already went
Minotaur -10
Waki Huro |
Unfortnately, Waki was planning for shooting and not melee. He cannot make it there and attack this round.
Waki moves 15' south and SW (full move, out of reach oc mino) and fires into melee.
attack : 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 = 9 for Dmg : 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Acel Odair |
Acel moves forward through the bush, firing another arrow.
Shortbow into melee: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 4 = 6
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Nowhere close to the minotaur.
"You'd better hurry with that wand, Eleanor!" She shouts in Sylvan.
Using Acel's Omen trait, which lets her demoralize once per day as a swift action
"Hey beefy! You'd better turn tail and run, now! I'm in the mood for steak today."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 Hopefully this minotaur is dumb as he is strong
Eleanor Savet |
"Here goes nothing, and I hope that isn't literal."
Eleanor spends her last first level spell of the day, and couples it with her last arcane point to launch a 'Color Spray' at the minotaur.
DC 17
Silas Proth |
Just realized I never actually said I had stashed my shield, which of course I would've done after the shield of faith spell was cast.
Finally within striking distance, Silas closes the rest of the distance between him and the minotaur. The ghostly shield from Eleanor's new wand still floating at his side, he had returned his own shield to his back and now grips his sword with both hands. "Return to the depths in the name of Iomedae!"
Now using Smite Evil.
Longsword smite: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 3 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 = 11
Tsadok the Crimson |
I don't like to be nitpicky on the rules but I figure some of this stuff you might want to know.
Acel, I think you take -4 on your Intimidate check because you're smaller than the minotaur.
Silas, your shield would stack with the bonus granted by Shield of Faith, 'cuz it's a deflection bonus, so there isn't a problem with stacking. Granted, your AC would not go up any from your Smite Evil, because that's also a deflection bonus and the bonuses are both +3. Still, given that your AC went up a point and you're two-handing your weapon, I'd go with what you're doing anyway.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Have a nice day. Please don't hurt me.
GM Bauers |
The Minotaur laughs gruffly at the tiny gnome's attempts at intimidation, but the door is opened for Silas to cut a wicked gouge in the creature's chest. His laughter is cut short by a blast of color to the face, but it shakes that off as well. Unlucky for you guys, but you're using good ideas
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Next up: Inira, then Minotaur
HP: -21
Silas Proth |
Oh yea, good point. Then again, with a 6 Intelligence he wouldn't know stuff like that haha. Plus I'm intending for this moment to be a learning opportunity for him in the future.
Acel Odair |
Didn't realize I took a penalty on Intimidate for being small. Makes sense, though. Acel's still going to run around scaring everyone she can!
GM Bauers |
Inira is Total Defense I believe (See about 13 posts up from this one
That was before the minotaur's last turn. It has since attacked, so she gets another turn.
Inira McCullagh |
Now that Inira has some friends providing cover, she steps back 5' and shoots a couple of arrows at the beast.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
GM Bauers |
Axe vs Silas: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 1) + 4 = 11
Axe vs Tsadok: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3) + 4 = 10
Gore vs Inira: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
In the pale moonlight Inira finds her mark, striking the creature with an arrow. He rages out in fury, attacking Silas and Tsadok. Silas raises his blade to block, but he makes a misstep, the absence of his shield throwing him off. He is almost dropped. 11 damage to Silas.
Tsadok sidesteps the blow aimed at him, after which the creature advances on Acel and tries to gore her. The horn rips a hole in her torso, but Acel is not out of the fight yet. 6 damage . The creature lets out a bellow that shakes the nearby young trees soundly.
Next up: Party
Minotaur: -26 HP
Silas: -11 HP
Acel: -6 HP
GM Bauers |
Gnomes have low light vision, so do I suffer a penalty in the dim moonlight? Also, I forgot to factor Inspire Courage, but I doubt AC 11 will hit.
I forgot answer this earlier, sorry. As far as I can tell, Low-Light Vision does not negate the concealment penalties. Low-Light vision allows you to see twice as far as a human in dimly lit conditions, but I believe you still suffer the miss chance.
Acel Odair |
I think you meant the minotaur attacked Inira. Acel isn't close.
Acel realizes her bow isn't going to help much more and moves quickly through the rough terrain. Double Move

Sorry, that should have said Eleanor. Inira is too far also. I'll adjust in the above post.

Too late to edit, so just note that this last attack hit Eleanor, not Acel
