She stumbles around in her purse, bearing an identification card. "Oh, but of course sir. I'm merely here to enjoy myself. My name is Ladahlia. I'm just a regular old merchant. You see, I was burned badly as a child when my family came under attack from efreeti forces. The disguise is a way for me to hide my hideous scars, and to protect me from my past."
The story is a complete fabrication intended to garner sympathy

She looks shocked, but nothing fools the pathfinders eyes. She clearly is hiding the truth, and her false identity is a dead giveaway. She stutters for a moment, before regaining her composure. [b]"Umm, umm. Yes. I'm Inysha, but.. but.. my old ways are far behind me! I'm a changed person! I'm here just to have good old fun. I'd realise if people know the real me, they wouldn't let me in. Please, please let me in. [b]" She begs of you.

Keying in on the conversation, Jazmine and Giggles turn to face Inysha. "We were specifically instructed that you were not to see the inside of this establishment. Are there some sort of authorities we can hand her over to? That would be my vote but not sure if that really exists here.

Sorry for the absence. I have been out of town.

There is no authorities in the casino, you can imagine there are some in the nearby city. As far as the scenario goes though, we are golden.
The pathfinders make a very convincing argument for Inysha not to return. Rogan decides it's not enough and escorts Inysha to the authorities. Realising her lost, she does not do anything to jeopardize her own safety.
As the night dwindles, you report to the boss your successful endeavour. He seems pleased that you manage to get rid of the perpetrator. He rewards a sack of gems for your troubles. Your duty here is completed and he allows you return to the ungrounded barracks.
Anything additional you want to do? Also you have the night to kill before you report to the captain in the morning.

Hmmm... Bunch of junior level trainees with a free night on the town?! THATS not the starting point for every safety brief known to man.... LMAO
Jazmine bows as the casino chief grants their reward. "It is our pleasure, sir. I hope we have represented both the Underground and the Pathfinder Society well during this mission, and hope to work for you again!"
Exiting the building with Giggles bouncing along at her heels, Jazmine looks to her companions. "Well, we weren't told specifically to report back after being released.. but the Captain will surely expect it. What say you? A drink or two at a tavern, or early to bed and early to rise?"
Blood Eagle |
I was thinking the same thing.
Thinking for a few moments, his mind almost as slow as his grumbling speech pattern, "It has been a very, long time since I was here, in this realm. I would like to see the site. I do not even really remember anything here. I was too young. I wonder if there is anything else we could do to bring glory to the Pathfinder Society here, or the Ungrounded?"
Rogan Bloodaxe |
"Hey, we did our job and never let that filthy thief into the casino. I say we've earned a hard drink or two. To the tavern!"
GM Batpony |
And to the tavern the pathfinder's went. To drink and make merry after a fruitful and successful night apprehending one of the Vault's greatest con artist on their very first try. What a marvellous and glorious sight it was in the tavern with the drinking, shouting, and the general comradely. Although it did not really help the mission at hand, it was a fresh break in a torturous and gruelling camp.
The night is short lived, and the pain continues tomorrow, along with some hangovers. Right after breakfast on the following morning, Dell once again informs you that Captain Othis has summoned you to her office.
“You’re still here?” Captain Othis growls, without looking up from the pile of missives on her desk. “I thought you’d find a path out of here by now. Well, maggots, it’s your lucky day. I have another easy job for you to screw up.” Othis rifles through her stack of papers and holds up a scroll bearing a bronze seal. “Zuhair Issawa needs someone to babysit a shipment of gems. Our real troops have more important things to do, so I’m sending you. All you have to do is get the caravan to his estate a few miles outside the city. Any questions?”
Blood Eagle |
"Not really, Captain. Our success will bring you and the Ungrounded much glory and honor. It is our pleasure.", figuring whatever he might ask will simply be too far above her head to really get a decent answer.
Turning to the rest of the group, "Shall we start heading that way, then? Maybe if we get there early we can do a little scouting? Find good places for an ambush, or areas we might need to be mindful of? Perhaps we can buy some horses for the day, too."
A thought suddenly dawns on him, as he turns back to the Captain, "Perhaps, if a few of the real soldiers and warriors are not using them, we could maybe barrow a few Ungrounded uniforms? I know we have not earned them yet, Captain, but, we are so weak and stupid still, not having completed our training and stuff, any thieves or scum might see the uniforms and think we where real soldiers, and have second thoughts. . ."

The captain considers the words carefully, and replies. "Yes. Indeed, uniforms seem like a great idea. Go ask Dell for some, I'm sure that useless Oread can do something useful."
Turning to Rogan, she looks at him and doesn't seem phased by the comment, instead, she remarks, "At least we know that is a little brain in that head of yours. This job is a little more a formality anyway, the caravan's route is known to be very safe and is used everyday. So I can't imagine how you'd mess this up."

I kind of think anything we say or ask is going to go nowhere, so might as well just head out and get started.
GM Batpony |
And right you are!
Following the crude directions given by captain, you easily locate the caravan outside a warehouse in the outskirts of the city. Four stocky rock beetles carry the heaviest goods, and an agrawgh—a 25-foot-long bronze-ringed serpent with horns, silvery skin, and deadly fangs—carries the bulky material. Two regular looking dwarfs named Nef and Annie are in charge of the caravan.
The pair courteous greets you, and explains the route ahead. They frequently use it, without incident, but it's quite a long journey, approximately 4 hours. Most of it through a vast Crystal cavern.
In case you are wondering, they are no tricks the caravan, as much you scrutinize it, you're sure that are legitimate.
Let me know if there is any prep you want to do before embarking on the journey.
Rogan Bloodaxe |
Rogans offers to take point and stays a bit ahead of the group and constantly scanning the route. "I still don't trust that Othis. Mark my words, this is some sort of trap. I'll scout ahead a bit to hopefully get a jump on any danger."
Will take 10 on perception as he walks, for an 18.
//Jazmine\\ |
Jazmine makes sure to stop and get uniforms for the team to wear over their armor before they leave the training complex. Enroute to the destination, Giggles spends the trip running to and fro seizing her second opportunity to experience the city and get out of the cramped training grounds. For a creature so used to the vast forests, this trip is really taking its toll on the little dino.
When they meet Nef and Annie, Jazmine greets them with a bow. "We are sent here by the Underground to help make sure you make it to your destination safely! Its a pleasure to meet you!" With that, she makes the introductions and does her best to start things off on the right foot. "What is this creature??" she says as soon as it polite with a gesture towards the agrawgh. "I have never seen its like!"
When we get under way, Jazmine and Giggles can scout as well. Take ten for both.. 20 for Jazmine and 15+ Scent 30' for Giggles
GM Batpony |
The journey starts off uneventful as a few pathfinders move in front of the pack ensuring danger is out of sight.
Every thirty minutes or so, you're forced to rest as the beetles cool down after tiring out themselves. Nef and Annie spend the downtime by calming the beetles down, petting in them, giving them motivational speeches. But besides the frequent downtime, the journey is smooth without indication of trouble.
About two hours travelled at this point. Also uploaded a map, so do place yourselves based on the caravans position, for no reason whatsoever.
Blood Eagle |
Rogans offers to take point and stays a bit ahead of the group and constantly scanning the route. "I still don't trust that Othis. Mark my words, this is some sort of trap. I'll scout ahead a bit to hopefully get a jump on any danger."
"I agree, but it seems nothing we have tried will either help her or us to figure it out. Might as well just let it happen be ready for it when it does."
Later
While the faster folks start scouting, Blood Stone stays nearer the caravan itself, offering to assist Nef and Annie if needed, and attempting to pass the time with small talk, but remaining vigilant.
"How are you. How did you wind up here doing this? What's the craziest thing you ever encountered in this line work? How about on this stretch?" that sort of thing.
//Jazmine\\ |
Jazmine and Giggles roam about, even as the rest of the caravan stops to rest the beetles. During this times, she roves around the stopped group, maintaining her vigilance.
GM Batpony |
The dwarfs are friendly enough to chat to the group, they share all they can about the creatures, especially the giant snake among their midst. While it is tame, it has a nasty breath is an excellent digger. Their stories are one not of excitement, being here looking to work for the money, saving up on buying a nice retirement hut in the plane of earth. Nothing exciting happens on this route normally but their employer insist on security. The most exciting thing that happened was maybe running into a local celebrity. They thank Blood stone for the offer, but during the downtime require someone with expertise in handling animals.
You can assist with motivating the beetles with a handle animal check, but it'll be assumed that is what you're doing each downtime. I'm guessing Jazmine is the only one capable of this.
GM Batpony |
Jazmine seems to have quite the affect on the beetles. With her help, they seem a little bit more confident and move with a spring in their step as they continue the journey.
After a total of 4 hours of stop-and-go travel the caravan reaches a narrow bridge made of magically-shaped quartz spanning the vast geode walls surrounding the Opaline Vault. A waterfall tumbles from the ceiling nearby, and a watery mist surrounds the air, but bears no effect on your vision. Stalactites grow down from the low ceiling, the longest of them reaching all the way down to the bridge itself. Beneath the bridge, the “floor” of the geode is made up of jagged crystals that sprout from the ground 10 feet below.
Somewhere along the bridge, two small earth elementals (DC11 Knowledge planes) fall from the ceiling onto the large snake's head, injuring it causing it pain and enraging it. They do enough hiding in the stalactites to not be observed by the scouting party. The agrawgh flails about screeching in pain. The elementals seem to act hostile and they bear a mark made with metal on their bodies. The mark depicts three hands grasping at a single faceted gemstone.
The scenario is written with the intention of no surprise round, so the creatures fall from the top in surprise round, and combat round 1 immediately starts. You may try to calm the Agrawgh by taking a standard action diplomacy check. Combat begins!

Blood Stone attempts to calm the Agrwagh from it's panicked state. Maybe it's the way he talked, or his connection to the earth. But he manages to stop the creature from creating a ruckus and a scene.
I'm going to go ahead and move the NPCs out of the way.
