When Lutorinus detected magic, he also note a overwhelming aura of transmutation emanating from all around the ruins. It doesn't seem to pinpoint to a certain location, it is just everywhere. But the magic seems to be beyond anybody's knowledge.

The group waits awhile as Varuna bravely approaches the pits to study it. The gasses play little affect on the wayang's body and he looks intensely around the pit making a lot of "hmph" noises.

Varuna is able to briefly conclude the purpose of the pit and what affects it brings. The pit is old alchemy, one infused with magic, making it a very unstable component. The ultimate purpose of the substance is to create mutations. Once satisfied with the observations, the group makes forth north to continue exploring the ruins.

The next room seems to be something akin to a temporary living quarters. The western side of the room is lined with wooden doors fitted with iron bars. Many of the doors are open, revealing bunched up piles of filthy rags heaped in what must have once been cells. A single metal door opens to the east, and another passageway leads south. You search the room to find nothing of value and continue forth your search for the unknown.

Heading east, the next room looks to be a training ground of sorts. This room’s ceiling is thirty feet high. Halfway up the smooth stone walls, the room widens slightly, creating a narrow ledge that runs the entire perimeter, with exits to the east and south. The floor in the lower portion is sand, clumped and stained in places by blood. Bones, broken armor, and shattered weapons are scattered about the floor, and a musty smell permeates the space. Barred metal doors lead out from the lower level to the west and south. The place is also empty.

The group advances again to the next room, and discerns through the door that there is some movement and noises coming from the room ahead.

To the northeast sits a two-foot-diameter boulder covered in shiny baubles, coins, and other trinkets.

Inside the room, there are some creatures. A goblin, looking scarier than any you have ever seen in your life, look towards the you menacingly with a grin. Varuna, your first roll did no meet +5.

Varuna recognises the goblin to definitely be some form of a mutant, but also that she is likely barbaric in nature. A mutant goblin barbarian.

The other creature is known as a wrathspawn, they are somewhat mindless (immune to mind-affecting effects), and are known to resist magical effects (SR). They can enter into a rage and their bites are known to be cause people to feel ill by affecting their mind.

Varuna deftly tumbles his way into the room, and stabs the creature from under. It is hurt but is still standing strong.

Big Slamu punches the ugly looking creature to a pulp, the being is barely recognisable anymore. It is Dead!

Fung's bolt again hits its target accurately, but once more is not enough to knock the creature out.

Toctep leaps forth to unleash a deadly claw attack on the mutated goblin. She succumbs to her injuries and falls to the ground unconscious with a loud thud.

Lutorinus summons an eagle that forms just in time to witness the defeat of the last foe.

Combat is over!

As you stand over the fallen and search their corpse for anything useful, you feel uncomfortable and nervous. Something in the atmosphere has changed.

The goblin has some weapons and armor that is no longer relevant to the scenario.

Detect Magic:

The magical aura emanating from this place has become unstable, it is no longer overwhelming in nature, it feels...confused?

"Indeed...this whole place is unstable! Something is different. We should, as I've said repeatedly in the face of contrary votes, get out of here as soon as possible!"

His bodyguard nods vigorously.

"The magic within this place is weakening and you wish to run?" he addresses Mr. Copperpot, visibly disgusted. "There is more to discover and I shall not be dissuaded without substantive evidence that we cannot handle what lies within," Lutorinus declares dismissively.

With similar appreciation and honorifics, he anoints Slamu and Toctep in the blood of devils for wounds they have incurred. He then searches the room for anything of interest.

"If we are finished quivering in fear, let us press onward," indicating the unopened door in the room as their next destination.

Varuna is fascinated by the change in the magical auras emanating from this place, and pulls out his book to jot down notes. He walks around with his wayfinder, detecting the auras and trying to make sense of what's going on. "Hmmph, very odd. This place. Goblins messed with things. hmmph? Not sure. Should explore further."

Varuna is more than certain that the magical energies of this place has weakened, enough to a point that Julian the priest is likely able to put the permanent ward.

Confident there isn't anymore danger by examining the door, and eager to learn more about the place the group makes way to the next room.

This room’s magnificent, vaulted ceiling rises to a height of twenty-five feet, and its walls are covered with mahogany bookshelves that nearly reach the ceiling. The once-beautiful wood is chipped, broken, and charred in most places, and the shelves are nearly empty. Most of the books, tomes, and scrolls are piled unceremoniously on the floor in two large heaps that still smolder feebly. A few cushioned chairs spew stuffing onto the ground, and several once-beautiful paintings lay smashed on the floor, their images ripped and shredded.

You may spend 1 hour cataloguing the work, or spend 10 minutes glancing the works with a Perception check.

And we've come to a conclusion!

The keen eyes of Toctep and Xuan Fung immediately finds several unscathed volumes that might be of use to the Pathfinder Society for chronicle purposes. Such titles include Warping the Flesh and Sculpting the Mind, A Fool and His Gold: Karzoug and Xin-Shalast, The Essence of Vanity: Politics and the Illusion of Power in Cyrusian.

Cautiously the group move to explore the rest of the unexplored terriroty, justin case. But moving around to the remainder of the ruin proves to be a somewhat futile exercise. You discover an ancient armory whose weapons have corroded and disintegrate to no use of anyone, and a kitchen whose ingredients are not worth touching with a ten foot pole.

Returning back to the entrance, you relay with Julian your findings. He thanks you for your work, and tells you that the momentary lapse or confusion in the magical energies is enough for him to create a permanent ward to seal away dark energies of this place.

At the end of the day, when you eventually find your way back out of the caverns and relay what you've done with Tide Watcher. She expresses her gratitude in you for helping to put away evil that should never see the light of day, in her own words. The Axe Clan Shoanti's relations with the pathfinders have improved, thanks to the work that you've done.

And we're done! I'll try to get the chronicles out during the weekend! If anyone is in rush for the chronicles, please let me know.

In case you were wondering, about the 2nd PP, you needed to accomplish 2 out of 3 task to truly understand about this place. Inspect the goo (Check), Interrogate Grib the intelligent goblin (Not check), Discover the important books in the library (Check)
