GM Bali's Reign of Winter (Inactive)

Game Master Bali

A strange and unnatural cold has fallen in Southern Taldor. The town of Heldren calls for heroes, who will answer this call?

Nelossë will reload, then fire another shot at the bandit.

Crossbow: 1d20 ⇒ 14; -2 if he's not within 80 ft.
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Seeing the play worked and the bandit did not turn to run again. this gave kobad time to move in closer.

takeing a few steps toward the bandit Kobad moves into a figting stance and with a punch a blast of flame shoots from his fist at the bandit.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 2 - 1 = 10 -1 for fatigued
damage if a miracle happens and that hits: 1d6 ⇒ 2

: roll20 link :

Nelosse sights down the length of the crossbow bolt before loosing it at the bandit. The beleaguered man is struck dead in the chest and collapses to the ground.

Poor bandit...With that you guys are off the clock. Let me know if there's anything you'd like to do before moving on.

Kobad Nel would have killed him before your spell so you don't need to deduct it from your daily allotment.

As the bandit falls, Droguk moves up to him before turning his attention to the others. "That is one," he simply states before moving to retrieve his javelin and his spear. As he does, Droguk then continues on with the hunt.

I say we keep going. Unless y'all wanna search him. Probably ain't got jack though.

Cyrus grunts, pulling the arrow out of his shoulder and tossing it to the ground. "Bloody bandits..." he mutters under his breath, grabbing a handful of snow and holding it against the wound, using the cold of it to slow and stanch the flow of blood.

Nelossë will move to the bandit and say a short prayer for him before stripping him of any useful gear and loading it on Featherfoot. She'll also look to see if she can retrieve any of her spent bolts.

Catching sight of the Ranger's wound, "It will only get bloodier," he deadpans. "Priestess, do what you deem necessary to mend the land warden's wound. I am more than certain we will need all our strength for their leaders. They will be far stronger than these they have sent out."

Calling on Shelyn's mercy, Nelossë will stand in the rough center of the group with Cyrus and emit a wave of healing power to the whole group.

Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6 damage healed

Once the healing is done, and she has gathered all the things she may need, Nelossë will turn to Droguk. "Lead on, friend, but be not too quick to strike a blow. It may be that bloodshed can be avoided here, and the Lady rescued without killing."

Droguk looks to the healer, pondering her words a moment before simply nodding in agreement as he returns to their objective and leads on.

: roll20 link :

The group sheathes there weapons pushing on with their now familiar march into the falling snow. The bandits body lies to the side of the trail, crimson tendrils of snow reaching out from it. The trail ahead remains easy to follow as it continues its climb up the ridge line.

Saves vs cold, DC 11 :

Droguk : 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Nelosse : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Kobad : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Kogar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Cyrus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Featherfoot : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

After another hour or so of marching you finally feel as if you have topped the ridge. Coming around a bend in the trail you see before you a large, sturdy looking wooden lodge. Smoke rises from two chimeys and a large pile of wood is stacked against a nearby porch. A small outbuilding sits the lodges East (south of you) and a stone well nearly blanketed by snow is barely recognizable to the buildings North. Ahead you can see tracks leading to the small porch as well as around the southern side of the building.

GM:

DC=20

Droguk stops, bending at the knees as he observes the area. "They know we are here. Notice there is no watch. Prepare yourselves." Droguk grabs his greataxe with one hand, a javelin with the other as he looks to see if he can notice any movement about.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

"It may be that they don't normally mount a watch, or that those we just dispatched were to send their fellows back to keep guard outside. It may be possible to enter without alerting them." Nelossë will crouch beside Droguk with her glaive held in one hand, scanning the building ahead and the surrounding grounds for signs that they are prepared for the party's approach.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

: roll20 link :

Nelosse:

You crouch down in the deep snow scanning the area before you for signs of life or danger. While discussing how best to approach the building with Droguk something on the ground catches your eye. At first it just seems a small depression in the snow but then you realize what drew your attention to it. Though slight, the depression runs unnaturally straight across the trail. Carefully moving your hand through the snow you find a taut rope less then a foot ahead of you. Concealed by the snow you can't really tell where the ends go beyond that it heads perpendicular to the trail.

Looking at the building you see no activity outside. All is quiet save the falling snow and creak of trees. The smoke rising from the chimneys and tracks in the snow give the only signs that the building is occupied. You do see many windows on the side of the building in view but they are too far away at this point to provide any glimpse inside.

"I think I've found why they have no guards. We need to be very careful going forward. There's a rope here. It may be just a tripline, but it may be connected to something inside."

If the group chooses to proceed toward the lodge: Nelossë will help guide the others over the rope before stepping over herself. Featherfoot will be led out of sight of the lodge and commanded to stay behind.d

Droguk nods in acknowledgement as he follows her direction by stepping carefully over the tripwire and keeping himself as low as possible, attempting to get near the window so as to get a view of what's inside.

Proceeding toward the lodge! And peering through the window.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Which I apparently see no one. Blah.

GM:

Droguk advances on the lodge to the nearest window. Slowly climbing onto the small porch he glances inside.

Droguk:

Within you see a large room with a long table in it. At the back of the room is a fireplace and corridors lead past it on either side. A closed door lead to the south. From where you are you can't make out the northern side of the room. You do however see a pair of men sitting opposite each other at the table. They appear to be drinking and talking together. Each of the men is wearing basic travelers clothes along with leather armor. You can make out a short sword resting sheathed on the table.

Droguk backs up a bit before turning to the others. "A fireplace in the back with hallways that go past it on each side. There is a door to the south. I spotted two men sitting at a table. A tiny weapon lying on the table itself. Priestess," he looks to Nelosse, "how do you want to go about this without bloodshed? Do you have an idea on how we are to enter? Possibly where we should enter? The southern door is an option. I am unaccustomed to avoiding conflict. I fear I do not know how to go about this. If this were my tribe, we walk in and rid ourselves of all of them," he states as a matter of fact. "Or at least die trying," he states with an equally impassive tone.

"Capturing without killing is one way to go about it. We might be able to enter without being heard, if we do it quietly. That could allow us to disable those we know about quickly, before they can alert any of their fellows." Nelossë smiles, as if at a private joke. "Or we could just walk in the front door and demand the return of the Lady. Perhaps they'll be so terrified of us that we need not fight."

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

Kobad's eye light up at the thought of a warm fireplace.

Front door it is then? I can go alone they may take me for lost traveler

All he really wants to do is get the heck out of the cold.

Listening to Nelosse and Kobad, Droguk picks out the common theme between the two. "Front door it is then. Going alone is not an option, Fireborn. They will never believe one could survive all alone this far in the cold. Especially one not native to this land. Ready your weapons. The time is now." When Droguk notices all are ready, he makes way for the front door.

Unless someone's got something else they wanna do, I say we roll on in.

On the way to the door, Nelossë will cast Shield on herself, then put herself second in line behind Droguk.

: roll20 link :

To clarify the plan is to go up to the door you can see (on the porch) and knock, try to open it, kick it in or something else?

I forgot to mention that Droguk will have his axe in one hand and a javelin in the other.

Kick it in, bay-bee! I'm not sure Droguk knows any other way to walk into enemy territory. :)

Str check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

: roll20 link :

As you approach the door, sensing the impending danger, Kogar summons up a heavy maul made of crystalline ice.

With a grunt Droguk covers the last few steps to the doors and puts his weight behind a mighty kick. The doors groan and push inward a bit but hold against the barbarians assault.

Droguk - you still need to roll to hit, even though you'll likely only miss on a 1.

Nelossë will reach forward and try to open the door the more normal way. If they open, she'll step back and make an "after you" gesture to Droguk. If the doors appear to be locked, she'll ready her glaive for when the doors do open.

Gotcha. But will see if Nelosse way works better. :) And after thinking about it, will just go with another Str check.

This is only if Nelosse's way doesn't work.
Str check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Okay whether her way works or not, that's obviously not gonna get it done. And there's that 1 that I would've missed with. :P

: roll20 link :

While it would have been hilarious if Nelosse just opened the door I'm afraid it's barred.

As Droguk collects himself after failing to burst the doors open Nelosse steps forward and tries the handles. While they do turn the doors remain fast, you would guess they are barred from the other side.

Droguk tries again to muscle through the door but is off balance and can't put much strength into the attempt.

Watching his fellows efforts Kogar nods in understanding and strikes the door with his maul.

Attack : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage : 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5) + 6 = 18

The half giants blow strikes with the force of a battering ram. Wood and splinters fly inward leaving great gaps in the door. You can now easily see through to the two shocked men at the table still to stunned to even have risen yet.

The door appears to be on it's last legs but is still obstructing your progress.

To break through a door you basically have two options, do damage to it with something appropriate (they have a hardness and hit points) or try and burst it via a strength check. Rules can be found in this section of the PRD with attacking an inanimate object info in the combat section (I believe).

Oh man that truly would've been some funny stuff. :)

I think Cyrus and Kobad have the only actions left.

Looking at the Roll20 map, that is a pair of windows on either side of the doors, yes? With another one around the corner behind the boxes?

: roll20 link :

Correct, one of those is the one Droguk looked in. Speaking of which I just revealed a bit more map since you can see through the door.

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

Cyrus will lead the way into the house, nocking an arrow and drawing the bowstring taut as he crosses the threshold. He keeps his eyes open and alert, keen for movement. If he sees anyone within seeming to take any hostile action, he fires with no more hesitation.

I'm not sure if we can physically make it through yet, Cyrus. It's possible we may need you to help bust the door open.
@Bali: Any chance Kobad's damage finished off the door?

: roll20 link :

Unfortunately not. The door remains hugely damaged but still an obstruction to movement through it. I'll allow you to fire through it with penalties but you can pass through it yet.

Yeah that's what I thought.

Which I guess brings us back to Cyrus. End this dang door, dude. It's starting to tick me off. :)

Male Human Ranger 4; HP 5/43; AC 17/13/14; F+6/R+7/W+3; Init. +3; Per. +9 (+2 vs. animals; +2 in cold)

My bad! I assumed from all that had happened that the door was no longer an obstruction, but apparently it is. Silly door!

Cyrus brings his falchion to bear on the door, hoping he can finally put an end to the portal that is causing such a headache for his teammates.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7

Just enough :)

Cyruses strike sends what remains of the door falling to the ground opening the room beyond to the party.

Male Human Sorcerer 4 [AC 14 | FF 12 | T 12 -- HP 7 / 22 | Fort +2 | Ref +3 | Will +5 -- Perc +4 | Init +2]

did my fire blast do anything to the door? just wondering if it is considered used or not

: roll20 link :

It would have been used but didn't effect it. The door has hardness 5 so reduces damage by five before it takes any (unlike DR it's all damage).

Round 1

Droguk steps in, drops his javeling, and moves next to the norther most bandit, gaining a two-handed grip upon his axe. "Tell us where you've taken the Lady or die where you sit. I accept nothing less." He states candidly as he positions his axe for a strike if the bandit does anything other than respond to the demand.

Move 1 square west, and then 1 square northwest(Move); Ready action(Standard).

GM Bali:

Ready action to attack. If the northern one attempts to do anything other than answer the question, I strike. Yelling for help, moving so as to get away and/or attack. Those would be two off the top of my head. You get the gist. :)

The man there is a savage warrior, and not a patient one. He will kill you if you do not assist us. Help, and I will do all I can to ensure you survive this encounter."

Delay initiative so she goes after Droguk, then move and ready action to attack if the south bandit makes an actively hostile move.
