Droguk "Many Scars"
Unfazed by the the prisoner betraying them, Droguk moves as far as he can and launches the javelin at him.
Move 20'(If you go to the square directly above Cyrus and then 2 more over going left, that's where I plan to move to. That technically is 40' which is my maximum movement. Sorry, I still can't figure out how to move him). :P Attack the prisoner(Purple dot guy).
Cold Iron Javelin: 1d20 + 0 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 0 - 4 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Crit confirm
Cold Iron Javelin: 1d20 + 0 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 0 - 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
GM Bali
Keep in mind during a surprise round you only get either a move or standard action. I figure you'd want to toss the javelin though so we'll go with that.
Having given the prisoner enough rope to hang himself with Droguk carries through on his earlier threat. A javelin impales the man and drops him to the snow.
Nice start..on to round 1 : Cyrus, Kogar, Kobad, Bandit, Nelosse, Bandit, Droguk, Featherfoot
Cyrus Laskaris
Cyrus, not wanting to push his luck with another arrow, steps out of the forest, moving as far forward as he can in a single move, putting away his bow and drawing his blade. Once drawn, he twirls the weapon in a slow, deliberate motion, the grin on his face showing just how much he hopes one of the remaining bandits tries his luck in a stand-up fight.
Move in the direction of the bandits as far as a single move gets me, drawing falchion while moving. Then ready an action if a bandit gets within melee range. Should be do-able.
Kobad the Sorcerer
I believe the snow is difficult terrain? if not then Kobad can move further
Kobad merely trudges through the snow to close the range between him an the enemy. the ducks back down trying to avoid the pincushion syndrome.
moved 15' on the map
GM Bali
Stepping forward Kogar launches another projectile at the bandits.
1d20 + 4 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 4 - 2 = 6
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Again the shot goes wide, smashing into a nearby tree branch and sending splinters flying.
The quicker of the two bandits recovers from his shock and immediately turns and runs back the way he came.
Double move away for the first bandit
GM Bali
The second bandit joins his fellow in fleeing the area.
Double move back the way they came as well.
Droguk you're up.
GM Bali
Droguk charges forward his swift stride making up a bit of the distance to the bandits.
Featherfoot will move over to Nelosse
GM Bali
Grunting in frustration Kogar creates another shard of ice and hurls it forth.
Attack : 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 4 - 2 = 15
Damage : 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
It strikes with an audible crack and sends the bandit tumbling to the ground where he remains motionless.
Kobad the Sorcerer
Kobad trudges foward some more. There is no way ea could keep pace with these guys considering the weatehr conditions.
They are to far out of range for any of my magic. I'm sorry I can't be of much help here
moved forward some more (as identified on the map)
GM Bali
The final bandit continues to flee the area.
Double move away, will update the map when I get home
Droguk "Many Scars"
Cyrus will follow Droguk as he advances on the bandits. "How far do we pursue, Droguk? Could they be leading us to more of their fellows?" he calls to the barbarian.
As the urge to continue to pursue is great, Droguk realizes this group does not consist of his people. "They will retreat to this cabin where they will alert those they answer to. They will be expecting us."
Lowering her crossbow, Nelossë looks to the others. "Is anybody hurt, or should we press on and catch up to the foe before he can report in?"
"We will press on. We will follow their tracks in hopes of catching them. If not, maybe we give them little time to prepare for us. Let's move."
Moving to retrieve his javelin that struck the prisoner fatality, he jerks it out and cleans it on the dead man's shirt before sheathing it and heading after the two that got away.
Droguk "Many Scars"
We're going to follow them in hopes to catch them. Out of combat of course. Or do we continue this in rounds? I've never really used 'chase' in combat so I have no idea how that would work. Obviously we can't run after them given the terrain. I was thinking more along the lines of follow the tracks until we catch up(if we can, that is). What do y'all think?
GM Bali
We can continue the pursuit in two ways. The first would be we maintain initiative and you follow tactically (basically as you are currently doing). The benefit is that it allows you to make use of ranged attacks when your close enough, keeps you close (at least in the near term) and keeps him in sight. The downside is that you will start to break up based on your different foot speeds. The second option would be to let him go, regroup and then pursue via tracking. Plus side is you travel as a group, downside is you're following tracks rather than visually and you move at group speed.
Let me know which way you'd like to proceed or if you'd like to mix the two (pursue tactically for X rounds then regroup, etc).
Cyrus Laskaris
[ooc]I say follow the tracks, myself. Traveling as we are, at our own speeds and what-not, may end up separating us more than we want and making it easier to pick off people who aren't front-liners, like Kobad.
Nelossë
My only question would be do we want somebody to ride ahead on Featherfoot and take him out sooner. Anybody with crossbow proficiency can get within range soon.
Droguk "Many Scars"
You know, that Featherfoot idea is intriguing. But there again we divide ourselves. Droguk is terrible with range and doesn't have the ride skill. It'd have to be Cyrus or you, Nelosse, I would guess. You wouldn't think they've gotten too far ahead. You know what they always say, "Never. Split. The party." ;) I dunno. I'll leave that up to you. Heck, it's your horse. :)
GM Bali
After a brief initial pursuit Droguk and Cyrus notice they are outpacing their fellows and allow the last bandit to flee into the storm. Regrouping and gathering their belongings the party begins their hunt.
The trail is easily followed both because the mans tracks are so fresh, perhaps made only a few minutes ago, and because they follow the older trail through the snow. The wind and falling snow still limit visibility and muffle sounds but with the clear footprints you are able to move forward confidently.
Fort Saves vs Cold DC 10
Droguk 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Nelosse 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Kogar 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Kobad 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Cyrus 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Featherfoot 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Bandit 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 1
Party : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Bandit : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Droguk 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Nelosse 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Kogar 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Kobad 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Cyrus 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Bandit 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Once again the cold creeps into your bones. It's now familiar chill is no less exhausting for the pace of the pursuit.
Fatigued again, 1 point of Nonlethal
During your pursuit Cyrus is confident you're gaining ground on the fleeing man. As you near the end of the hour your chase is interrupted by the flight of an arrow and a shout from Kogar.
Attack vs Cyrus FF 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 2 - 4 = 7
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 6
The arrow flies wide, taken by the wind. Looking in the direction Kogar is pointing you see the bandit about forty feed away partially concealed behind a tree, bow in hand.
Droguk 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Nelosse 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Kogar 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Kobad 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 1 = 5
Cyrus 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Featherfoot 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Bandit 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Looks like Cyrus, Kogar, Bandit, Droguk, Nelosse, Featherfoot, Kobad
Cyrus Laskaris
Sorry! Busy weekend!
Cyrus growls menacingly at the bandit hiding behind the tree, trudging through the snow as quickly as he is able to move, spinning his falchion in his grip with a flourish as he does. He is clearly not worried in the least about the threat the bandit poses.
Double-move toward the bandit. If that would put me in melee range, Cyrus will stop at 10' away.
GM Bali
You'd be roughly in melee range so we'll stop you 10' away
The half giant squints at the bandit through the snow. Nods to himself and throws a chunk of ice his way.
Attack : 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 4 - 2 = -1
Damage : 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
The throw sails off into the woods however.
With Cyrus nearly on him the bandit falls back and then fires at the approaching ranger.
Move back 15'
Attack : 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 4 = 9
Damage : 1d6 ⇒ 4
Tripping a bit in the snow however his arrow flies harmlessly over everyones head.
Back to the party....Nelosse, Droguk, Kobad and Cyrus.
Kobad the Sorcerer
Kobad makes his way a bit closer to the enemy and with a few movements of his hands the bandits weapon begins to glow red hot.
cast burning disarm DC 16 reflex or take 1d4 ⇒ 4 fire damage. or drop weapon to avoid damge. failed save take damage and drop weapon
GM Bali
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Flames erupt from beneath where the bandit is gripping his bow. He screams out as they lick up his arm burning away skin. Patting at the flames in a panic his bow falls forgotten to the ground.
Nice hit Kobad. Cyrus you're up
Droguk he'd be roughly 35' from you now (started at 40', moved back 15' and you advanced 20' due to DT
Cyrus Laskaris
"What's the matter, coward?! Losing your stomach along with your weapon?!" Cyrus calls to the bandit. Seeing that continuing this plan of action will only lead him further away from the group, he gives up the foot pursuit, flicking his scimitar into the snow with one hand while pulling his bow from his back with the other, nocking an arrow to let fly at his opponent.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 4 = 6
GM Bali
The bandit snarls at Cyrus, picks up his bow and fires.
Attack : 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 4 = 18
Damage : 1d6 ⇒ 5
The arrow flies true providing a bloody response to the rangers taunts.
Back to the party
Droguk "Many Scars"
Droguk moves ever closer to the bandit as he draws his spear this time seeing how he's within its range and launches it at him.
Move 40'(20'). Should put me 15' away from him. Draw while moving.
Cold Iron Spear(20'): 1d20 + 0 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 0 - 4 = 3
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Man my range attacks stink. Like skunk bad.
GM Bali
I'm pretty sure Droguk has ranged weapons only to let people know he's coming to kill them, not to do the actual killing :)
GM Bali
Missed it myself thanks Cyrus
1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 4 = 4
And so good deeds aren't punished :)
