Simply to end the Cult of the Ebon Destroyers. You have brought too much evil into this world.
I honestly forgot all the details of why we were here now. Murders I think?

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

Murder of the thakur's cousin, murder of dissidents of the religion, kidnapping of one of the thakur's advisors and attempted murder of you guys, too :)
The woman takes off her veil, showing a surprisingly youthful, elegant-looking human. "Likewise, for the havoc you have caused to my subordinates and fellow masters in Jalmeray, I should wish you ended as well. But isn't there a better solution? Join my mistress Dhalavei and becomes the new masters of the Ebon Destroyers here on this island nation. You have proven yourself resourceful in finding our hideout and skilled to have bested the Ikrimah and Deepti I presume since you have some of their equipment on you and despite Ikrimah's alarm, he is not here to report. Would you like to live a life of luxury and power as we destabilize and control this nation from within?"

![]() |

"Um... no? thank you, but no?" Lore says, not unsure of her answer, just not wanting to give an insulting decline.

![]() |

No. Pelkin speaks as bluntly as he possibly could.

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

The woman nods, figuring the answer. "Very well, then how about this arrangement. We settle things with a single duel between myself and one of you. The combatants will fight here, on the dueling platforms above. Neither duelist will receive aid or outside interference during the battle, nor can either combatant willingly leave the platforms. No spells may be cast at this point; only the fighter's current strength shall be deemed worthy. The duel will begin as soon as both combatants are on the platforms and will end when one person is rendered unconscious, willingly takes a step off the platform, or falls to the floor below. If I win, you will leave the Ebon Destroyers alone and I shall not attack you again. If you win, I will leave my post as the spiritual guide of Dhalavei here in Jalmeray. Do you agree to this?"

![]() |

I saw this coming. I meant to use Discern Lies but forgot (twice). I'll use it now.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
No magic, but what about judgments, etc? I'm not sure I'm the best option here either. Also, why agree to this?
And if we refuse? How could we possibly trust you to keep your word once you are defeated?

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

"Then I will strike you all down where you stand if you refuse honorable combat. And let's say that you do defeat me; I would entirely be at your mercy. It should be myself that should worry about trusting the other side. And if I happen to best your chosen champion, then it would be in your interest if only one of you is possibly slain instead of the entire lot of you."
@Pelkin: It sounds like that there is to be no buffing from this point until combat begins, although she didn't say anything about doing so during battle. Of course, since your judgments are swift action, it's entirely possible that she may not even notice it... or maybe she will. Also, I need to double check, but there is a chance you used all of your judgments for the day, too!
Zaafira Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
The woman tenses up when Pelkin tries to magically pick apart her words, but she then relaxes. "Do not trust me, half-elf? Then you cannot be the champion to duel against. My last offer: do we duel honorably or not?"
She honestly seems sincere in her offer: you do not sense anything that would make you feel like she is lying, magically or with your own training.

![]() |

"Only two kinds of people offer to duel for total stakes," says Amarthecthel. "Those who seek to protect their own from needless harm and those who know they are beaten if they cannot restrain their enemies. You don't strike me as the self-sacrificing type. So again, no."
"I will make you a counteroffer. Surrender to us and we will see you fairly tried. The same for every person in your organization who surrenders. You won't get a better offer."

![]() |

That's possible. I was wondering if I used them all myself. Of course, I have buffs already up (Heroism and See Invisibility).
Its tempting to take the duel sans magic buffs just because it's interesting, however I fear Pelkin is not the dueling type. He seeks justice, not individual glory.
It seems my dear friend is in agreement with me. You should simply surrender and face judgment.

![]() |

[ooc]Yeah, it would different and if Amarthecthel were Sovereign Court, he might go for it. But he's Silver Crusade. Let justice be done![\ooc]

![]() |

OK, if I only get three uses of my judgments then I've used them all.

![]() |

'I am OK with just starting the fight from here, dueling be damned. It will be a trick anyway, might as well start on our terms" Velidor whispers to the others scanning the area for an ambush.

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

On mobile, but the battle will begin!

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

"The only judgment you will face is the wrath of Dhalavei!", Zaafira shouts, ignoring Twigg's status as a pro-wrestler.
Note, no one will be flat-footed for lack of initiative since the battle lines have been drawn and announced.
Zaafira: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Amarthecthel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Lore: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Pelkin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Twigg: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Velidor: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Zaafira narrowly gets the upperhand, starting off with summoning a large wall of flame around the party, searing heat cooking them inside the circle! She disappears from view as she steps back away from the ledge.
Amarthecthel fire damage: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Pelkin fire damage: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Lore: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Twigg: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Mexel: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Velidor: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
As per the spell, wall of fire is 20' in height and the next level also happens to be that tall. Moving through the wall will incur 2d6+10 fire damage
Init Order (bold = up)
Zaafira
Velidor (8 damage)
Lore
Twigg (3 damage)
Mexel (3 damage)
Pelkin (6 damage)
Amarthecthel (2 damage)

![]() |

Can anyone do anything about the flames? If not, Pelkin will move so that he can catch both friend and ally within a 40' radius burst and will cast Prayer, hoping to both aid his allies and hurt his enemy! I would get as close as I can to her so that I can get the AOE right. I think where I am now will do it.
Fire Damage if the wall can't be dispelled by my friends: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (3, 6) + 10 = 19
Spell Resistance if any, no save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
+1 luck bonus for us, -1 for her in regards to attack rolls, damage rolls, saves and skill checks.

![]() |

"No create water here to put out the flames and she moved back so no shot yet." Velidor says and then delays until one of the casters can do something about the fire...

![]() |

"You need cold damage to put out the wall... water won't be enough. I have no cold spells... "

![]() |

"Who thinks they can take her on? I have a potion of fly, one person could fly out of here and attack her, but it's the only one I have... and you might be on your own... however, I might be able to walk out of here, I have fire resistance of my own, and give you some backup..."

![]() |

Amar can fly so perhaps I could use that trick.
I might use Spiritual Weapon instead if I'm granted Fly. What would my fly speed be, Lore?

![]() |

fly speed is as per spell, 60'
Lore gets out her fly potion and hands it to Pelkin... "Go wallop her!"

![]() |

Ah, I missed that it was a potion. So, standard to drink, move action to fly 60' (40' up and 20' toward the enemy I guess?). So no spells, no damage.

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

@Pelkin: Typically it would be move action to get potion from Lore, then standard to chug. However, if Lore wants to use her standard action to put it to your lips so you can just do the standard action chugging, I'm good with that."[/b]
[ooc]Amarthecthel may have a dispel magic under his sleeve, but that would be your last bet. Otherwise, going to get a fly speed or pray for some buffs?

![]() |

that sounds good, but he'll have to bend down a little, Lore is very short, being a gnome
lore does have a couple of dispel scrolls... but she has to wait to use those I guess... I forgot about them

![]() |

No, I'll use my actions. Lore can use her standard for something more useful (unless she has absolutely nothing else to do with her standard this turn).

![]() |

Nope. No dispel here.
Let's try something hexcrafter-y.
The elf magus rushes through the wall of fire, burning as he goes.
"Your limbs and mine become slack!" says Amarthecthel in a voice of command as soon as he sees her.
Misfortune hex. Foe within 30' must take the lower of two d20 rolls for 2 rounds. Will negates, DC 18

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

Amarthecthel Fire damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 6) + 10 = 22
The fires burn Amarthecthel, but he reaches up and, spotting Zaafira, glares evilly, willing bad luck upon her.
Zaafira Will: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
However, her will in Dhalavei is stronger than Amarthecthel's malice.
@Pelkin: I don't think you can get into a position where you can have Line of Effect to Zaafira as she is on another floor, not without flying up.
Pelkin provides Desna's blessings to the party.
@Lore: Since Pelkin is going to hold off on the potion use, you still have a standard action left. Could nab a scroll if you wish, or do somethng else.
Init Order (bold = up)
Zaafira
Pelkin (25 damage)
Amarthecthel (24 damage)
Velidor (8 damage)
Lore (standard action remaining)
Twigg (3 damage)
Mexel (3 damage)

Amarthecthel Fire damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 6) + 10 = 22
D'oh!
The fires burn Amarthecthel, but he reaches up and, spotting Zaafira, glares evilly, willing bad luck upon her.
Zaafira Will: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
D'oh!

![]() |

Wait, confusion reigns! I think we cross-threaded here. In the Discussion thread, you stated I could get the potion down if it were fed to me by Lore to save time. If so, I still would have my move, right? I would then Fly up and out, avoiding damage but casting no spell. Right?
If its too messy we'll keep it as is. I'll run thru the flames and cast the spell.

![]() |

Seeing no other way Velidor wraps his cloak around himself and runs through the fire wall...
Fire DMG: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (4, 6) + 10 = 20 and runs towards the stairs... he should be able to make it to the base of the stairs on a double move

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

@Pelkin: I guess it's post timing issue :) You stated on this threat that you wanted to use your actions, so I went with move out, then prayer. If you want to fly, I'm ok with that as it'll be standard to chug, then fly out. Really, the big question is do you want the prayer up or the fly? It mostly makes a difference on Lore's actions since if she's giving you the fly potion with her standard action, then she is indeed done, but if you're going to ignore the potion and just use prayer, then she can still have a standard action remaining.
Not too messy either way.
Velidor runs through the fire and flames!
Going to give Twigg until Pelkin confirms what he wants to do, then I'll bot and move on :)

![]() |

She said in Discussion that she'd do it so we'll go that way. I'm flying and take no damage from the fire but I have cast no spell.

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

@Pelkin: You'll still take fire damage as the ceiling of room is level with the wall of fire. But noted that you will fly! Lore's turn is done and I'll bot Twigg after my lunch!

![]() |

Oh, I didn't realize that. But if I cast Prayer next turn I should have LoE on everyone, correct? If so I'll stick with it.

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

Twigg and Mexel bravely run through the flames and heads the other direction on the stairs.
Twigg fire damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (3, 3) + 10 = 16
Mexel fire damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (4, 3) + 10 = 17
Zaafira stands behind an audience bench, casting another spell!
She has partial cover from the bench if you attack laterally.
It was divine favor.
"Come at me, 'heroes', and face your deaths honorably!", Zaafira taunts!
Init Order (bold = up)
Zaafira (???)
Pelkin (flying, 25 damage)
Amarthecthel (flying, 24 damage)
Velidor (28 damage)
Lore
Twigg (19 damage)
Mexel (20 damage)

![]() |

Pelkin will now cast Prayer. I'm assuming that I now have LoE by flying to hit the enemy, though even if I don't I'll do it anyway as long as I can hit all of my allies.
Pelkin will then move to engage! With a 60' fly speed I should be able to get to that spot without provoking.
Swift Action : Pelkin will cast Litany of Sloth, DC 15

![]() |

is there anyone besides lore left still inside the wall?

![]() |

Lore, seeing there's no longer a point to dispelling the wall, just walks through it herself.
fire damage: 2d6 + 10 - 10 ⇒ (5, 1) + 10 - 10 = 6
Lore takes a little fire damage and now stands beyond the wall with her friends.
She throws a bead 15' behind Zaafira, so the blossoming fireball from it hits only her and no one else.
fireball dmg dc 14 reflex for half: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6

![]() |

Velidor double moves up the stairs...

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

@Lore: In your case, since you're lobbing the sphere towards a foe you cannot see (and honestly only have half an idea where is due to Pelkin flying above towards her) and trying to aim for a specific location, I want Ranged touch attack against AC 9 as well as a total concealment (50%) miss chance. If you miss, I'm going to treat it as a splash weapon and it'll be randomly off a bit and may still hit her or possibly someone else, too!
Pelkin says a prayer, Desna's will aiding his allies while putting some pressure on the last remaining cult leader.
Zaafira Will: 1d20 + 14 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 14 - 1 = 31
Zaafira's fervor prevents Pelkin from slowing down her reflexes.
Meanwhile, Velidor hustles up the stairs, gun in hand ready to unleash his storm of fire soon...

Holy schnikies! Her TOUCH AC is between 19 and 20? We're going to need a bigger boat!

GM BPChocobo TK1 |

All of these guys have ridiculous touch AC's as compared to many BBEG's... mostly from their monk levels :) She also has a +2 bonus for partial cover, but that was also partially covered by the prayer's bonus.

Pelkin Reflex: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 = 21
Zaafira instinctively uses the bench for cover as does Pelkin, but her reflexes are quick enough to avoid any of the searing pain. Meanwhile, Twigg aims to get himself and Mexel into the battle sooner with magic!
"Let's perform Dhalavei's sacrificial dance, half-elf!", Zaafira taunts as she swings her blade rapidly at Pelkin!
