@Lore: I will need a concentration check, still, DC 23, but I'll give you a +2 bonus with Pelkin's presence.
Now that his defenses have slowly been wiped, the party begins their onslaught!

GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Like I said, I'll explain this guy after the battle. You will be a little surprised :)
Amarthecthel |
"You are formidable, demon," says Amarthecthel, breathing heavily and moving with preternatural speed. He tries to goad the monster into attacking him instead of Lore. "Take comfort in your final moments that you were harder to kill than most. My name is Amarthecthel, warrior of Kyonin. Tell them my name when you reach the Pit that awaits you."
Concentration check to cast defensively (DC 17): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

Note that I get a +3 on all attacks if the enemy is wearing metal armor.
Note also that the +5d6 only remains until the first hit.
So, if a 31 hits, then that's 54 damage. If 30 hits, then 83.

@Amarthecthel: 31 hits... the guy is not wearing metal armor, but you did confirm that crit! Now for a bit of bad news :)
Also, you did forget the icy burst extra cold damage, although it it looks like you doubled the 1d6 cold from the weapon, too. I'll negate the 1 in your crit confirm damage, an add a 1d10 result.
Icy Burst damage: 1d10 ⇒ 7
Amarthecthel summons electricity to his blade, then quickly cuts the man's chest! The strange magical defenses reduce the severity of the blow, but he knows that damage was dealt. Oddly, the explosion of electricity hits, but seemingly washes off of him, no signs of electricity burns on him. However, the icy explosion from the powerful blow does remain.
Looks like he has either resist energy or protection from energy for electricity up. And powerful enough to absorb at least 28 electricity damage.
Velidor then fires another salvo, 2 bullets striking this time! As the second bullet hits, Ikrimah shouts, "See me in the Pit? I will see you in Dhalavei's court, begging for mercy that will. not. come!", Ikrimah disappearing from view!

GM BPChocobo TK1 |
So that guy... he was a wizard. With 1 dip in monk and 11 levels in wizard! Basically, he cast a ton of buff spells. Also, I did make a minor screw up and forgot his BLUR that would still be active at minutes per level, but we can assume that the big hits were at least over the 20% concealment threshold.
What made him deadly in particular is the use of the transformation spell to give him massive temp HP, full BAB based off of his caster level, and haste for extra attack. Combined with a bunch of other buffs (owl's wisdom, bear's endurance, etc), he had a ton of HP and that insane 31 AC and 19 touch AC and could still hit like a truck.
Another amusing fact is that had you not dropped him this round, transformation would have ended and he would be able to use his magic again... such as dimension door and disintegrate :)
Pelkin, with a silent prayer to Desna, swings once, his blade striking through Ikrimah's chest and into his heart, the Dhalavite barely able to glare at the half-elf once more before falling to the ground dead on top of Lore, his blood staining her garb.
Looking over his body, the party finds:
[list]
1: alarm, chill touch, disguise self, expeditious retreat, mage armor, protection from good, ray of enfeeblement, shield
2: alter self, bear's endurance, blur, bull's strength, cat's grace, continual flame, darkvision, eagle's splendor, false life, fox's cunning, invisibility, knock, magic mouth, mirror image, owl's wisdom, protection from arrows, resist energy, scorching ray, see invisibility, spider climb
3: dispel magic, displacement, fireball, gaseous form, greater magic weapon, haste, heroism, protection from energy
4: dimension door, lesser globe of invulnerability, mnemonic enhancer, resilient sphere, stoneskin
5: overland flight, permanency, symbol of pain, telekineses, teleport, wall of force
6: disintegrate, globe of invulnerability, greater dispel magic, permanent image, transformation
Continuing to the end of the path, the party find's Ikrimah's lair. This tetrahedral chamber possesses a single entrance at one of the three base corners. Red light bathes the area, causing the polished walls to gleam. Around the room’s edges, squat benches and low shelves fill the cramped space between the floor and the steeply sloping walls. The room’s center is clear and has a spiraling circular design etched into the floor.
The benches and tables hold a variety of alchemical and magical items, including 3 potions of mage armor, five smokesticks, four tanglefoot bags, and two everburning torches.
Whew! I'll give you guys a bit to go over the phat loots before moving on :)
Pelkin Norwind |
So who can use any of this wizard stuff? I'd like to take at least one of the CMW potions so that next time I need to heal up I'll be ready for it.
Does the silver ring have anything special about it?
I'm tempted to take a dip in monk with my wizard now!
Lastly, about taking a rest, its probably a good idea as that fight took a lot out of us. Can we hole up in this guy's lair?
GM BPChocobo TK1 |
The silver ring was Ikrimah's bonded item; it's useless to anyone but him.
A dip in unchained monk with wizard wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. They take a fully capable level 11 caster and turned him into a melee powerhouse that took you guys about 10 rounds to whittle down his defenses.
@Pelkin/Lore: Can I get an intelligence check?

Common sense would dictate that trying to camp in an enemy base is a bad idea. Worse, leaving would only give the remaining cultists time to reinforce their defenses or possibly even evacuate and who knows where they will be after that.
Pelkin Norwind |
As I feared. No rest for the wicked it seems! So, I assume we followed the passageway to his lair and nothing else is in this direction?

"The headband is nice too, but Amar is probably more suited to it."
GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Paizo ate my original post, but I'm ok with you using the scroll Lore, but I will test against the higher caster level. Also, you are right Pelkin, I exposed the rest of that area of the map!
@Lore: The Intelligence check was for the above post where you would realize that despite your magical exhaustion, you have to keep going lest either the cult sneak attack you or pack up and move, either case being bad.

Pelkin will lead the party down to the next area to explore, what seems to be a 10' corridor. I've moved myself on the map.
