scroll is at cl 11?
GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Yeah, so you'd have to roll a 3 or better on a d20 to use the scroll :) Then not roll a 1 for your Will save if you did fail that.
Velidor Gamestalker |
After ensuring the foe is dead and all gear is stripped, Velidor follows Pelkin through the hallways.
GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Pelkin approaches the corner and finds that the hallway ends in a pair of iron doors that close off the hallway. Straight ahead to the left the hallway opens into a large chamber where the darkness seems to hide all of its features.
To the closed door up or to the open room to the left?
Map slightly updated!
Pelkin Norwind |
Pelkin decides to go down the corridor, hoping the party's light will illuminate what is inside.
Velidor Gamestalker |
Velidor follows the inquisitor, just a few steps behind the man in case he needs to shoot.
GM BPChocobo TK1 |
A soft, reed floor fills this large, high-ceilinged stone hall; a gaping pit centered around a series of small platforms drops into darkness in the room’s middle. Target boards line the walls, and training dummies are spread around the room.
The room is lit by various torches that line the walls, although shadows still hide the central part of the room. Various exotic ranged weapons also are racked against the walls.
The party cautiously makes their way in...

Pelkin's weapon comes from behind, smacking the woman in the side!
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 35 ⇒ (10) + 35 = 45
The woman leaps incredibly in the air, jumping over 10 feet high and flinging a single disc at Velidor as she disappears behind a pillar, out of side and seemingly disappearing in the shadows, near perfectly silent in her attack.

As far as I know, you're right about the weapon. Weird but magic isn't as fooled by lack of line of sight!
Thanks for the heads up! I know this has been an expensive campaign, but the gold reward is nice :)
So not sure if you have noticed, but these boss battles now each are themed interestingly... first is wizard monk who turns himself into a melee beat machine. This gal obviously jumps around using ranged attacks and plans on annoying you greatly. What's in store for the third? You'll find out... if you survive the fiery assault!
The woman, now expecting the floating starknife, dodges both swings.

@Velidor: You can see her, but she'll have cover with the pillar blocking most of the view, so I'll add +4 to her touch AC.
Velidor blasts the woman... only for her to use her bracelet of discs to deflect the bullet into the pillar! Yes, she has Deflect Arrows, too!
The rest of the party prepares buffs, Twigg getting into position invisibly while Amarthecthel takes a book from Ikrimah's tactics and creates multiple images of himself!
With Pelkin spotting her, she unloads a bevy of discs into the half-elf that burst into flame as they are launched at Pelkin.

Nope :)
Amarthecthel goes in for the kill, swinging quickly and aiming at the woman's heart. Her body almost separates as icy forms from the blood splatter, the woman falling to the floor with a lifeless thud.
Thought that would be more annoying, but good effort and some luck on the party's side ended this battle mercifully quick!
Amarthecthel scoops up the woman's body as the party examines it for clues and useful items.
[list]
Also, another magical item is embedded into the brow of the woman; a black gemstone.
It's a third eye of midnight, which affixes to the forehead of a person and functions as goggles of the night aka, darkvision!
Unfortunately, there is no other telling information on the woman unlike the much more vocal Ikrimah battled earlier.

Who wants what? Lore would be thrilled with the belt... but happy to take the ring instead if someone else wants the belt.
Pelkin Norwind |
I only have some interest in the Slippers, outside of that I have no issue with you taking both.
Velidor Gamestalker |
Velidor slaps Amarthecthel on the shoulder following the mans vicious strike that felled their foe. "Well done friend."
Looking over the loot the woodsman says "I already have a belt, no need for another. I have no need for more jewelry. Take what you want Lore." and then he starts taking accountability of his ammo.
Amarthecthel |
Amarthecthel acknowledges Velidor's compliment. [/b]"She was dangerous and had to be put down. These people are fanatics."[/b]
Spellcraft (DC 24): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
"I have no need for most of that equipment," says Amarthecthel. "Lorendral should take the belt. This gem, however, should be of interest to most. It permits the wearer to see in the dark."
"I can fly and so have no use for the slippers. They should go to Pelkin or Velidor."
Amarthecthel retrieves both his pearls of power and recovers two uses of frostbite. The he shoulders his pack and follows Pelkin.
Pelkin Norwind |
Pelkin will take the slippers then.
Lorelendral Teklet |
"Oh my darkvision sounds wonderful... how do we get the gem out of her forehead?" does it just pop out, or does it require some kind of surgery?
Pelkin Norwind |
She's dead, we'll carve it out if we have to, LOL.
GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Lore: I'll assume it sort of affixes on when pressed against skin; likewise, a gentle application of force should remove it without having to cut skin :)
Other than the Darkvision gem being applied, think you guys are ready for the next room!
Sorry, got behind setting up the map; I'll have the next room ready tomorrow morning!
Pelkin Norwind |
No problem! Pelkin will try to detect the usual stuff (alighments, magic) before opening the door once it is determined to be safe to do so.
GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Ready!
Cold white light pours down from the ceiling, illuminating a raised platform in the center of the area. The room is two stories high, with a series of balconies running around the upper level, overlooking the platform. Two narrow walkways cross above the center of the platform on the second story. Stone pillars positioned around the lower level support the balcony and walkways. To each side at the rear of the chamber, steep steps ascend to the upper level.
A woman with dark veils stands on the upper floor, looking down upon the party. Unlike the others, she greets them with more interest and warmth than any of the other cultists thusfar. "Welcome to the glorious fighting arena of the Master of Black Destruction! You are the ones causing much ruckus for my mistress above; what is it that you seek that you would come so far in a strange and foreign land?"
