The magus moves south and sees another watery intersection, with branches going east, west and south. The rest of the party follows on either side of the water. Occasional boards form crude bridges over the smelly canals.

Holman and Jacen make their way around the other side while Kath leads Morvius, Nguyen an and August down the near side.

Well I heard something down there... at least I think I did, the echoes in these sewers might just be playing tricks.
Kath continues to lead the group south
I move those who were on the 'southern' part with Kath and moved the darkness back
Seems there is a split, lets check them out, I'd rather not get hit from behind if there is anything laying in wait

As the front four turn the corner to the west,
you see the sewer water flows in from the north
and swirls about this room, drawing larger pieces
of garbage and refuse into a floating pool of trash at the center.
In the middle of trash floats three well-dressed, bloated corpses,
their skin purple and splotchy and their bodies floating face down.
Holman and Jacen are on the far eastern side of the north-south channel
unless the loop all the way back around or use a plank to cross.

Hearing the exclamations from the rest of the group, Holman decides to rejoin them. Not trusting the planks across the water, however, he decides to jump across the waterway.

Holman jumps across leaving Jacen on the far side.
Nguyen An walks across a plank without difficulty and hooks one of the floating bodies.
As he drags it closer, you see the bodies have nothing on them of any value and their corpses are badly decomposed. Their clothes reveal that they were once members of Taldor’s high society.

Who are they, An? Why are they down here? Where'd they come from? Murdered?

"Looks like some foul play was involved. They look rich, by their clothes, and they carry no purse or other valuables. Maybe a robbery and stuff them down the sewer?? They certainly were not dressed for a trip down here! What do you others think?"

Everyone is back on the same side. Three of the badly decomposed bodies are found in all. Nothing further is found in this pool. No other exits are visible.

Now what do we do? Why are we down here again? August asks bluntly. Ain't nothin' but spiders, sewage and corpses down here!

August seems embarassed about asking the question once he hears the answer. Oh, right. And some artifact too. OK. Yeah, east looks good enough fer me.

Your party retraces its path back to the east where sounds of water flowing increase slightly from the pool with the floating bodies.
Heading east, do you all intend to be on the north side of the water, or were any approaching from the south?

I'd imagine I'd stay on the same side unless An moves, the dwarf always tries to stay with An.

As Kath leads the party to the east, another branch to the tunnel appears, heading to your left (as well as continuing straight).

As you round the corner, you see the following:
This room appears to have once been the basement of the
building above, the wall separating the basement from
the sewer long ago smashed in and repaired, giving it the
appearance of a natural part of the sewer system. The ceiling
here is 30 feet high and the room is lit by torches in the north
and south walls. Stacks of crates and barrels line the north
wall, and a set of finely carved stone stairs start on the south
wall and make their way up and around the west wall to a door
high above the room in the northwest corner.

Whatdaya think is in all these crates, An? August says as the party enters the area. Should we open them up?

Holman makes his way back to the others and whispers, "There's one o' those rat-guys in the room to the north, there. I'm gonna see if I can't sneak in there. Follow me after a few seconds."
With that, Holman makes his way into the room, keeping an eye out for anyone else in the room and sneaking around the western wall towards the stairs.

August firsts hears of enemies and then Jacen mentions opening the crates. Being much more concerned about enemies, August looks for them once he gets around the corner.
From where I am on the map I can't get very far, I don't even think I can see the room. I'll use a move action (20') once the space is clear to move into.

As each of you move up or make it into the room will eventually see a human in armor half hiding behind a crate in the room.
The man shouts out...
"Have at them!. "
He casts a spell at Kath ( will save needed)
And a pair of darts fly wildly out from the pile of crates towards Jacen and Morvius.
