If there is extra sheilds or magic armor floating around and it seems like I'm taking a beating way too easily, wouldn't mind at all :P
Like I said Pai, if they attack first
What happened to Kuraishimo?

![]() |

If there is extra sheilds or magic armor floating around and it seems like I'm taking a beating way too easily, wouldn't mind at all :P ...
Mage Armor won't give you any benefit with your +1 breastplate worn. Shield would work but that is a personal spell so you have to cast it on yourself. So you may want to consider a few points of UMD so you can use a wand or scroll of it on yourself in the future. I have bless and resist energy that I will try to use on you guys as appropriate.

GM Aarvid |

Your party marches east along the Dry Way—the trade
road along the northern bank of the mighty Yondabakari
River toward Korvosa—for several days.
You spot a distinctive stream, which your instructions indicate
you should follow north into the Sanos Forest.
Once in the woods, all signs of humanoid activity abate.
Midway through your first day in the forest, you see in the distance through the trees, a small vale where you catch a whiff of rotting
meat, find several bear tracks, and notice the forest has
suddenly gone quiet.
According to your instructions, you should be within half a mile of the cottage where Ignizi Dinnelletter lives.

![]() |

I suggest we keep on moving, but arround the area where we can smell the rotten meat... Those thigs end up not being anything good. And keep your eyes peeled.
She begins to scan the surrounding for anything out of place, holding her long hammer ready for anything.
should I roll perception?

![]() |

Imitating his dwarven companion, Rysalius immediately snaps to attention and tries to spot any incoming danger.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Maybe something is amiss. My opinion is that we should check it out, to make sure it has nothing to do with Ignizi's team. What do you all reckon?

![]() |

Let´s find her, somehow.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Worn out by the long riding and not used to it, Pai Song´s senses seem to be dulled. Probably she dreams of a soft bed and maids serving exquisite foot while massaging her feet and playing relaxing music.

![]() |

If a bear killed another animal, wouldn't it eat the corpse? If something killed a bear, it is probably a threat.
Lavode begins to ready himself for trouble.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Lavode casts mage armor on himself, Kuraishimo, and Pai Song (if you both want it) in that order if he has time. It will last 5 hours.

![]() |

Wouldn´t mind that! Alterantively you could use my wand for all, since it saves spells and lasts longer it seems if you use it.

![]() |

Excellent notion. That will save some of my magical abilities for later need.
I can use the wand on the both of you (and your mounts if you want). When I use the wand it will last 2 hours. I'll still cast for myself.

GM Aarvid |

When you round a large cluster of trees, a cottage comes into view.
DC7 to hear/see the creatures
You immediately notice it is besieged by forest creatures.
From about 70' away, you spot two large furry (or are those feathers?) clumsily slamming themselves against the cottage, which creaks under
the weight of the impacts.
You hear cries of alarm filter out from inside the cottage. The windows
and doors are boarded up and reinforced, but chunks of wood fly as the creatures tear at the structure.
See map at the top of the page. Let me know if you have problems seeing it.
2d20 ⇒ (4, 16) = 20
Ingra: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Kuraishimo: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Lavode: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Pai Song: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Rysalius: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
=== Surprise Round ===
21-Ingra (surprised)
20-Beast 1 (surprised)
15-Pai Song
13-Beast 2
12-Rysalius
9-Lavode
4-Kuraishimo
The closer of the two beasts seems to have noticed your approach, while the other continues to pull at the cottage.
Pai Song can act first in the surprise round as she just barely noticed the creatures.

![]() |

Kuraishimo will use his own wand and mage armor himself.

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (2) - 3 = -1
Add Kuraishimo to the surprised list.

![]() |

What the aether are those things? Can we drive them off without killing them?
Do I recognize what kind of creature they are?
knowlege arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
knowlege dungeoneering: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Lavode begins to ready a spell.

![]() |

Shouldn't we roll knowledges at our initiative ranks so that we may partake the information whenever we have a free action to do so? Anyway, Pai, it's your turn. I'll roll on my init count.

![]() |

Shouldn't we roll knowledges at our initiative ranks so that we may partake the information whenever we have a free action to do so? Anyway, Pai, it's your turn. I'll roll on my init count.
The other times I've done PbP the GM has just had us all give our actions for the round, then he arranges them in order. Otherwise it could be 3 or 4 days for each round of combat depending upon what time people check the boards. I guess I just assumed we were doing the same this time. How do you want it handled Aarvid?

GM Aarvid |

Correct...roll the knowledges etc and I will apply as your turn comes up. I repost init each round with any special conditions listed - like prone, stunned surprised etc..

![]() |

Alright! Sorry for my not knowing this, I'll gladly adapt. So for the surprise round I'll declare:
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
I'll start singing (inspire courage, +1 competence bonus to attack and damage, +1 morale to saves vs. fear and charm). 12 rounds remaining today.
Catching glimpse of the creatures, Rysalius quickly communicates to his allies what he knows about them, before letting out his powerful bass voice. The tune is hardly a joyful one, but transcends his allies, renewing their heart with vigor and bravery.

![]() |

Maybe the ones before and after foes can declare action in no particular order? But if wished apply it in particular order. Prooved good in many games so far.
Ride: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Fight with a Combat-Trained Mount: If you direct your war-trained mount to attack in battle, you can still make your own attack or attacks normally. This usage is a free action.
Pai Song wants to ride into reach and then cast charm person (DC 17) on the first whatever there. It seems like something she can enchant to her.
Concentration Check DC 11: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Doing CL check because of vigorous motion while casting. Since the creature was not attacked or threatened by us yet and i finish the spell before something else happens, it does not get the +5 on it´s will save. Hehehehe.
The large lizard moves forward like a flash in his reptile motions, while you hear the enchatress hiss a spell and speak words of magic, somehow managing to guide the mount, stay in saddle and trace intricate patterns of spellcrafting in the air at the same time.

GM Aarvid |

Update: the pertinent knowledge skill for these beasts is Kn:Religion (not planes). Sorry for the mixup.
Pai Song sallies forth on her giant lizard while casting a spell to try and charm the savage beast. However the large hairy and feathered beast seems unconcerned with the spell and (partial) charges the sorceress and her mount with pure evil in its eyes.
beak: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 2 = 25 for dmg: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
The beast bites down with a bloody beak on Pai Song, ripping flesh from her arm, nearly pulling her from her saddle.
11 pts damage
Rysalius and Lavode are up (and either of you can change knowledge rolls etc)

![]() |

I described my action above (start singing inspire courage to bolster allies). I can't roll knowledge (religion) unfortunately, so my roll was moot.

![]() |

I have started casting a Summon Monster II spell. I will not move my mount since I don't want to make the concentration check. Will suummon a samll earth elemental. But it wont appear until right before my next turn.

![]() |

Are you sure i cannot enchant it? Serpentine sorcerers can enchant animals, monstrous humanoids and magical beasts like humanoids that are able to understand my language. There is a list with some creatures on my character sheet too.

GM Aarvid |

@Rysalius - actions noted.
@Pai - it does not appear to speak or understand your language and from the looks and smell of it now that you are close - it appears to be no longer living. I did not see undead on your list.
@Lavode - casting a full round action like a summons, will use your standard from the surprise round plus your standard from round 1. You will still have a move action once your turn comes up.
Rysalius starts his song to encourage his allies, while Lavode start summoning assistance.
=== Round 1 ===
21-Ingra
20-Beast 1
15-Pai Song
13-Beast 2
12-Rysalius (singing)
9-Lavode (casting)
4-Kuraishimo

![]() |

Just check me but I think I can reach Pai and smack Beast 2 with a charge attack. (40ft)
Seeing Pai getting viciously bitten, Ingra jumps off the mark and charges the beast, yelling to get its attention off Pai and onto her, Hammer whistling as it flies through the air; with grit determination on her face
Aaaaaaagghhhhhh!!!!
Power Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (1, 3) + 12 = 16
If I counted right, and with 10ft reach, I hit it?, If I counted wrong, I will be ready if they enter my threat range
Her hammer comes down with a whistle and a crash of bone and flesh, and a slight smile crosses her lips at the satisfaction of making such a square contact

GM Aarvid |

Ingra charges in and smashes the first beast. This pulls the other's attention away from demolition of the cottage, and it turns and charges the dwarf.
Ingra will have a chance to hit it as it moves into range to bite her.
"Whoooorarararrrrr! "
bite, chg: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 2 = 29 for damage : 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

8 pts on Ingra..
Pai is up again...

![]() |

Ride: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Pai Song urges Lizzie to attack the thing before her, but it smehow doesn´t want to follow her order. Then, with a droning voice, she unleashes a cone of searing flames on it.
Burning Hands: 3d4 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) = 8

![]() |

Already declaring my action for this round since I'm going to bed and there's only Beast2 before me.
Rysalius continues singing (11 rounds remaining) an ode to the famous Chelish tiefling hero Larazod facing the hardships of his own twisted reflection. He walks in front of him as he draws his longsword (move action] and weaves a spell into his song, and exact copies of the Chelish bard appear.
Casting Mirror Image: Mirror image: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 images appear.

![]() |

Ingra see's the second creature coming and directs a blow in its direction
Power attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (3, 1) + 12 = 16
As the second blow hits it flat on the shoulder, more crunching noises follow. When the beast now in turn returns the attack, Ingra cringes and grunts from the pain, but is already preparing her stance for the next blows.

![]() |

Kuraishimo will move up 30 feet and ready to cast grease next time one of the beasties attacks. Reflex DC 17
Under both if possible, but if not I'll take the healthier one if I can get it, or worst comes to worst, just the one within range.

![]() |

Bytosti môcť prísť do mojej pomoci!
A small roughly humanoid figure of dirt an stone rises up from the ground off to the side and charges the bird-like thing attacking Ingra.
The small augmented earth elemental appears 6 squars forward and 3 to the left. This puts it in range to power atack charge and attack the nearest opponent.
elemental charge: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 - 1 = 15, if hit damage: 1d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 3 = 10
Lavode then moves up to hold onto the lead of the pack horse so it doesn't bolt in terror. If needed, handle animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

GM Aarvid |

15-Pai Song
13-Beast 2
12-Rysalius (singing)
9-Lavode (casting)
4-Kuraishimo
The northernmost is struck soundly by the dwarf's hammer but it continues forward and bites down on Ingra.
Meanwhile, Pai Song tries to get her lizard to attack the large beast that bit her last. But her lizard ignores her pleas.
She then attempts to cast a spell to burn the creature. The creature lashes out at her while she casts.

Unable to reach the dwarf woman, the beast continues its attack on the mounted human female and her lizard.

2-16
The beast bites hard again and knocks Pai unconscious
(I have her at -3hp, correct me if I missed anything 11+6+10)
and tears into the frilled lizard, slashing with a claw and slam (17pts total).

GM Aarvid |

Rysalius continues his song and creates a perfect double of himself.
Lavode finishes his long spell and a small earth creature appears near to the beast fighting with Ingra, charging to attack, hitting it with a slam (10pts).
Lavode is able to control the pack horse in the fight.
Kuraishimo strides 30' forward and casts a spell under the two monsters.
r1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
r2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
The northernmost one fighting Ingra slips and falls prone, while the other barely keeps its footing.

@Pai - you are able to get your spell off (and could even target both of the creatures I believe. The lizard will attack on its turn since it was not attacked until after it went.
(retcon) Before she goes unconscious in the saddle of her lizard, Pai Song is able to scorch both creatures, hitting the one in front of her solidly, while only some of the flames affect the one on Ingra.
