"So you're no wizard for sure. Are you a cleric? Serenrae I guess by your holy symbol. But then you wouldn't say yo don't know. Mmmmh. A bard? A druid? What else is there?" Niamh goes through the casters she knows.
"We are a bard, a healer, a gnom who is kind of a wizard, a uhm...an elf who can shot with arrows and probably a paladin." Niamh turns to Brutus. "Oh, and a rottweiler."
"I'm no wizard, I'm a sorcerer!" Abomentolor protests.
"That is not helpful but it makes sense. The magic wand no one can use but the girl who doesn't know what kind of magic user she is." Lini concludes.
"A sorcerer is kind of a wizard, as I told!" Niamh instructs him.
"Are you ignorant or do you really not know the difference?" Abomentolor asks indignant.
"I just follow our motto." Niamh says and then cites "The springs of ignorance..."
"So can you tell me at least how many charges this wand has, so I can put a price tag on it?" Lini asks.
Gwenhwyfar concentrates on the wand and casts detect magic
Sorry, but I don't know.
"And to correct Niamh again, we think I am a paladin but I don't worship any god so there is that too. Lini, do you know anyone who might be able to tell Gwen and I where our magic comes from?" Jimmy says chuckling at the strangeness of his and Gwen's situation
Tauriell's interest is also aroused so she tries to do the same.
but with the same result. She pulls the pendant of the souk out of her blouse and holds it to her forehead over her eye.
"Now I know. How much would this information be worth to you?" Tauriell asks Lini.
Lini looks annoyed "Look. I told you I'd give you a 50 gold discount if you tell me what it is. If you buy it I don't care about that, you get the discount anyway."
"But I could offer you to come again for a cup of tea. My wizard friend would probably be delighted to talk to you about your strange kinds of magic."
"And what is this thing you used to check on the wand is it a magic item too? What does it do?" she asks reaching out with her hand and would grab it to feel the material if the elf wasn't so damn tall.
"Oh, that is just some Talisman that helps me identify magic items." Tauriell plays it down and puts it away into her blouse again.
"And your wand. It has 38 uses left and it casts a spell of 1st power level. It is also a rather nice spell for it always sticks. No simply shaking it off with a strong will or something."
"So that would make it 570gold minus the 50gold discount. So if you want it you can have it for 520gp." Lini quickly calculates.
"A wand that is like made for me. That would be nice. Shall we buy it?" Gwenhwyfar asks Jimmy.
"That wand of scorching ray would be interesting to me. What do you take for that?" Abomentolor asks.
"That would be two times three times 15 times, let me just look how many charges it has left." she says checking the label
"Ok, that's 90 times 38, that's 3420 gold."
"Ok, that might be a wee bit over my budget." Abomentolor replies.
"Someone else who likes to magically improve? Like a belt of giant strength for the strong fighter to become even stronger? A headband of alluring charisma for the performing bard?" Lini asks.
"Sure I'll take all of that. Let me just haul in the bags of gold I left on the cart outside." Tauriell replies her words dripping of irony.
Niamh sighs with a glare at the headband "I guess we will come back if we have enough money for buying all these things..."
"You can also come in to bring the stuff you don't need. I pay good prices for good stuff." Lini replies.
"I really don't have things I don't need. But I will remember that." Niamh says.
As Jimmy seems paralysed by something else Gwenhwyfar says "I think we need some time to decide this. We are also looking for some armor for Jimmy here and will come back to you about this wand when we see what money we have left. Thank you very much."
She then puts the wand back on the box to the others and takes Jimmy's hand to lead him out of the shop and back on the street.
"Have a good day. Come back soon." Lini replies.
Tauriell follows them out. "Let's go somewhere where you don't need to sell a house first to buy something. Where is that smith Abomentolor told of?"
"You just be quiet for a while and listen where the cling and clang noises come from." Abomentolor says as he comes out of the shop too. "Or you just follow me around until we are there." he wisecracks.
Leading the way down the ramp past the Bazar along the coast into the middle of Beacons Point. In front of the three story building with the big sign 'Most Excellent Order of Smiths' Abomentolor stops and looks around "You know what? This endless noise these smiths make would make me crazy if I would have to live here even for a single day. Luckily we can be gone in an hour again."
"Killing monsters isn't quiet either." Niamh replies opening a door before she steps into the building.
"Also you could stick your fingers in your ears as you're not buying anything here." Tauriell suggests before she follows Niamh in.
"Good afternoon esteemed guests. May I help you find the perfect product for your needs?" An elderly man greets the party. He is well past his best years but has still an impressive stature and strong arms. Dresses in his artisans clothes consisting of a pair of trousers with a lot of bags and a black shirt. But as it is all in pristine condition he doesn't look like he still works the iron.
"I like that attitude. Let's see if you have what it takes to live up to your claim." Tauriell responds with doubt written on her face.
"Challenge accepted mylady." the man replies with a nonchalant smile. "So please tell me what you are looking for."
Tauriell takes out her mace. "You see that? It's rather nice, but it's designed to be used one handed. And the dent it leaves in the enemies I hit with it is just not big enough."
Around the room are shelves filled with dozens of exemplars of every common weapon. The man goes straight to one of these shelves and picks up a heavy mace. "If you like the mace but want bigger results, you could try this. But it is still one handed." he states and hand Tauriell the mace. Taking another thing out of and puts it in front of her on the ground. "For two handed I could recommend this earth breaker. It doesn't get much bigger than that."
Weighing the mace in her hand and trying a few hits in the air Tauriell complains "This thing is so clumsy, I won't hit anything with that."
"Let me try to explain it again. I'm not into maces. Much less into this overweight demolishing equipment there." she explains pointing to the hammer standing on the ground. "I just happen to have this special mace and it's rather nice in it's handling. I want something that is equally good in the handling but with more damage."
"So if it's not maces and hammers let's try some blades. Like to test some sword?" he asks handing her a standard longsword. But as everything here in rather fine quality.
"I had one of these already. Not in this quality but it still is no good." she judges the weapon after doing a few swings.
"Well we have lighter blades." he states getting a rapier from a rack. He collects the mace, the sword and the earth breaker and puts them away. He then watches the elven woman doing some swings and thrusts wit the rapier.
"I think that suits you well. You move rather precise with this one."
"You've got to be kidding me. Don't get me wrong. This thing is nice. But it is still one handed. And it won't do any more damage than the mace. I wanted an improvement. Not only in style but in damage."
"So far I have not seen you bringing anything that is even close to perfect." Tauriell says to the guy rather disappointed.
"I must admit, you're right. But I don't give up yet. I have to consult some of our specialists." He moves to the back where the actual forges are in the next room. After a while he comes back with a sweaty dwarf smeared with soot.
"Which one is it?" the dwarf asks.
"It is the tall red haired lady." the elderly guy replies.
"Ah, great. Elves" He almost spits the word out. He walks towards Tauriell and takes a stand. "So you are the one who can't find somethin' in our excellent selection of weapons"
Tauriell looks at the elderly man with her eyes asking 'really?' and turning to the dwarf she replies "I found a lot of things here as your college here helped me searching. But he said he would have the perfect thing for me. And so far he has to fulfil this." She really enjoys it to be that much taller than the dwarf so she can look down on him. This seems to be mutual 'love on first sight' between her and the dwarf.
"So what did you show her so far Thomas?" Thorbin asks.
"I showed her a mace, a longsword, the earth breaker and a rapier. She asked for something as agile as her light mace, but two handed, and more powerful in delivering damage." Thomas explains.
"Say no more. It's always the same. It has been that way for aeons. Everyone longs to have weapons and armor made by dwarfs as they are unmatched in their quality. Only the elves are so 'special' that they can't use them."
"Why don't you go back into the woods. Maybe you find one of those thousand year old ancestors there who forge those flimsy elven weapons. I bet they would be to your liking. But I don't do them."
With that he is done with the elf. But as he wants to turn he notices Jimmy Fiddle standing there. "Ah. I remember you." he says pointing to Jimmy. "I did this special silver work for you. Nice to see you again." he states stepping forward and holding his hand out to greet him. "You're interested in some weapon or armor this time?"
"How did you come to be here from Sandpoint master smith, it is certainly a pleasure to see you again, and at least I know if it is armor you have made, it will be of high quality. I am interested in something to better protect myself this time. What do you have in way of heavy armors?" Jimmy says clasping the hand firmly
