Gwenhwyfar moves out of the influence area of the monster and touches Niamh to heal her.
The seugathi steps back and casts mind fog into the room.
But fmbles it.
The golem steps closer and slashes at the monster again.
Niamh still plays her violin.
Gwenhwyfar steps closer again
resists the confusion and uses her slumber hex on the monster.
Jimmy puts the sleeping creature down
with a swing of his ranseur.
"What in the hells was that?" Jimmy says out of breath
The seugathi falls asleep and with that his aura disappears.
And will never wake up again.
"That was a fiendish seugathy." Niamh relpies in relief after she stops the playing. "Happily we survived that." The halfling casts Cure Light Wounds on herself.
"I think I'm ready for sleeping again.
The mighty coup de grace of Jimmy ripped the monster open and it's guts are seeping out on the floor.
"Okay, so what the hell is that?" Jimmy asks again
Tauriell takes down her bow. "I'm really glad that thing is dead."
"What do you think, shall we do as Gnaeus suggested and leave as long as we still can?"
"I told you it was a fiendish seugathy!" Niamh repeats unpatiently and walks to the black book she wanted to look in earlier.
Abometolor walks over to the dead seughati and repeatedly kicks it. "You stupid, ugly, dumb, crazy, dead waste of space." and spits on it.
Niamh raises her eyebrows at Abomentolor's speech but doesn't react otherwise. Now she really looks into the book searching for other scrolls or magical texts.
The book is again in thassilon but has no papers between the pages this time.
Niamh casts detect magic to make sure she doesn't miss a scroll and carries the book to Tauriell. "How is this book called?" She asks the elf.
"It is named 'From the mind of monsters'." Tauriell tells and flips through the pages.
"Yes Niamh, I did hear when you told me what it is called. You didn't tell me what it 'is'." Jimmy says as he moves over to Gwen, healing herself
The book is an incredibly well preserved investigation of the nature of many monsters that are capable of strange mind-controlling powers. It is written in an elegant script.
And it is magical.
functions as a tome of clear thought +1 that automatically recharges its power a month after it is used, although a single creature can benefit from the book only once.
"It's a large aberration from the abbys." Niamh explains and to Tauriell she adds "The book is magical. But I don't know which kind of magic it is."
"Again, I can see that the thing is large, and it certainly isn't from here."
"Could you please be a bit more specific about what you want to know?" Niamh asks Jimmy only a little bit enervated.
Tauriell's curiosity is piqued. She casts detect magic herself and investigates the books properties.
"Neither do I know what that magic is about. Someone else willing to try?" Tauriell replies.
"I guess you try it then?" Niamh plays her violin to support Gwenhwyfar.
Gwenhwyfar approaches Tauriell and Niamh. "I will take a look." She casts detect magic on it and concentrates on the aura.
After looking at it for some time the structure of the magic becomes clearer and clearer until she finally recognizes what it is and what it does.
"That's... incredible!" Gwenhwyfar states wide eyed.
Niamh stops the play. "What is it?" She asks in curiosity.
"A 'Tome of Clear Thought'. And not a normal one either. It recharges a month after it is used." Gwenhwyfar explains. "May I read it first?"
Niamh squints her eyes. "If you promise to put me on the being good list."
"I'll erase you from the naughty list immediately. But you have to stay good, or you will be put back on it." Gwenhwyfar states pulling out her journal and the eraser waiting for Niamh's answer.
"Agreed. But after you read it you'll give it back to me!" Niamh orders.
Gwenhwyfar erased Niamh from the list and stows her journal together with the book into her waterproof bag in the backpack.
"But what shall we do now? Tauriell asked if we should give up. Who is still hurt by the way?"
Niamh is still hurt but not much so she decides to keep quiet.
"I'm fine thank you." Tauriell replies. Looking around she notices the two items the monster wielded lying on the ground. As one looks like a wand she casts detect magic again.
"I'm for going back to our rooms to have a nap and after that we decide how to continue. Maybe we would get another job from Mrs. Heidmarch. Or we would go on hoping we have learned something from this fight and next time we'll do it better." Niamh suggests.
"We have a job to do here, and we can't leave until we have done it, especially if someone else is after the Shards now."
"It looks like the shard is safe with Sorshen as it has been the former centuries. And I'm sure Mrs. Heidmarch would cough up other pathfinders to get killed here." Tauriell replies sarcastically.
A coppery shimmer runs over Tauriells skin and something else is unsettling about her.
"Then this is clarified." The halfling replies, her voice gives no clue if she thinks the decision is bad or good.
Destinée lies curled up next to Gwenhwyfar as she suddenly starts to hover up until she is no longer at Gwenhwyfar's feet but on eye level. As she opens her eyes they are a bright purple. "Meooow!"
"Tauriell, what is with your eyes?" Jimmy says detecting evil on her
Niamh turns around to Destinee and then to Tauriell. "Everything allright? Your eyes look kind of ... catlike." Niamh recognizes at once with Jimmy.
Tauriell puts down her backpack and takes out the small circular hand mirror. She checks on her eyes. A wide smile appears on her face revealing her teeth that seem to be just a little bit pointy too. Shortly the nails at her hand that holds the mirror change into coppery claws but turn back into normal nails immediately.
"Nothing. Everything is fine." Tauriell says perfectly calm still smiling, but without revealing her teeth.
"But I guess there is something with that cat." she says pointing at Destinée.
'That's all scary' Niamh steps a step away from her companions looking everyone up for changes. "Does your cat feel okay?" She asks Gwenhwyfar.
"<There is nothing. Everything is fine.>" Destinée says. But only Gwenhwyfar can understand it.
Gwenhwyfar smiles at Destinée. "Destinée says everything is fine."
"It seems like nobody think these changes are not okay. So, are we going on now?" Niamh asks enthusiastic to overplay her real feelings about the changes.
Tauriell walks over to pick up the wand and the sword.
"The sword is some kind of magic I don't know. But this is a wand of cure serious wounds. Who needs some healing?" Tauriell offers.
