Could Niamh and Gwen use heavy shields?
Niamh couldn't even carry such a thing. I guess you can google Gray Maidens and see how large a large shield is. For MEDIUM characters.
Gwenhwyfar could probably hide behind one. But she is not proficient and would take the penalties on everything.
Do the penalties affect how much you can heal :P. And yes I know we can't have Niamh use one of these, but Niamh never attacks and could take the time to remove the shield so that skills are unaffected.
Same is mostly true for Gwen. They could probably even get away with tower shields
Nonproficient with Armor Worn: A character who wears armor and/or uses a shield with which he is not proficient takes the armor's (and/or shield's) armor check penalty on attack rolls as well as on all Dex- and Str-based ability and skill checks. The penalty for non-proficiency with armor stacks with the penalty for shields.
Are witches affected by arcane spell failure? And how about bards? Performance and hex's aren't affected though as they are not spells. So Tower shields will not impede them at all.
Main issue may be the max dex bonus and the weight for carry capacity.
They also provide portable cover which could be really useful.
Gwens armor would go up by 3, and Niamh's would go up by 2. So not massive, but an improvement. We could also very possibly put Gwen in Full Plate without much hassle to her. At least if we accept her not attacking :). She can even use her slumber Hex without issue.

Well yes. At the keyboard not so much. The guinea pig home needed a quick makeover. But now I'm back.
My grapple monster keeps hamsters, I know the hassle of cleaning that cage :P
Cleaning wouldn't be my problem. Someone else would have to cast Prestidigitation on that. But the bottom was rotting and had mold. So I had to build a kind of drawer to put into the pig home to give the bottom a chance to get dry and to separate the pigs from the mold.
why not just scrap and replace the bottom? The mold can certainly kill them
The house is built with plywood/styrofoam/plywood. To replace that would be difficult. I just need it dry to be able to grind the surface and then paint it. And the drawer is an improvement anyway.
Oh, as in a full wooden house. That would be difficult. Rubberised paint might work
As it doesn't come in contact with guinea pig pee any more I think every outdoor painting will do.
How did it get moist then?
It had pool liner, but obviously some moisture got under it. Now there is this drawer which is just a three inch high tub sitting inside of the house. This thing gets peed. And for that I took textured coated board. The same I took for the roof of that house.
Did I mention it's an outdoor piggy home?

I have a hard time to decide what on that map would be a smallholding and opposite of which cottages. But I think I got an idea about the general landscape you live in.
Unfotunately there are no defined borders. But on the map it should have Hulleman cottages. If you head west from that. cross the main dirst road, and then follow the smaller curvy dirt road, it ends at our house
It seems to be rather spacious there.
We live in a house in a suburban area with 700qm premises. Which is considered bountyful. If they build new on such premises they build four houses in a row on that.

None of them snatch. Occasionally have to be careful leaving food on a plate on the coffee table if you leave the room. But besides that, pretty good actually.
Our dog behaves well too. We tried to teach him not to jump on the table and eat out of the pots.
Now we learned not to leave pots on the table.
Our dogs normally try snatch once, and then get a quick rap on the nose. But we let our dogs lick our plates when we are done, so if we leave the plates alone they tend to think we are leaving them for them

Funny thing was: We stand in the kitchen doing some cooking and during the preparation something falls to the floor. The dog is not at home but somewhere else with a kid.
