Should we not use the potions first, both orcs had a couple of potions, so that means at least 4 potions are around. Rhyno used one already, but that could be 3 saved charges from the wand. We should try to save those as much as possible. Also, after the 2nd charge, Rhyno would have waved off any additional as he was fully recovered.

"Yeah, I think we should get goin, now that the people are free. Not a very hidden basement if its on map, eh?" says Rhyno as he does a few stretches and flexes to make sure all the limbs still function.


The party makes their way to the shipyards and without much trouble finds the warehouse noted on the map - warehouse that is suspiciously unguarded. The hidden trapdoor is located exactly where the map notes it should be and leads down into a dark passage.

A smell, not unlike wet dog, fills this room. The corners are occupied by dirty straw pallets covered by wrinkled, mildew-encrusted blankets. A single dilapidated table and four cracked and uneven chairs surround it. A passage way opens to the east leading deeper into the compound.

A thin man in ratty furs sneers when the party enters. He motions to two monstrous rats to attack!

Ryster shakes his head and fires his musket at the thin man. I have had it with these treehuggers and their rats! He then reloads his weapon.

I don't think we should use the potions as they can be carried and used by anyone, but there's only one wand. The potions can be used in a pinch by whoever is hurt, the wand is only held by one person at a time. I think using the wand first is wisest, from a resource perspective. So my 2cp, save the spontaneous cast, but use the wand before the potions.

Chorister moves his hand from his nose long enough to touch Rhyno's back, letting a small but potent bit of magic flow into him. "What a smell!"

"Thanks." Rhyno grumbles as he charges on the nearest rat, his maul whirling in his hands. "Shoulda tried to talk, ye can't win." he says to the man in back as he brings the weapon in a cruel arc.

Alexia's hair slams into one of the dire rats snapping its spine and Rhyno's hammer splatters the other. The man in ratty furs grunts in pain as Ryster's bullet slams into him.

Chorister debates internally on whether to use more spells, but holds off for now, not knowing what they'll face, instead dropping the crossbow and moving in with the mace, aiming to take up a flanking position with Rhyno, "Yes dear fellow, you really should give it up." and flails wildly with his mace, not really coming that close to hitting, but hopefully distracting the villain for the much stronger Rhyno.

The dead man doesn’t seem to have anything of interest or value on him other than a handful of coins.

Ryster curses, looking back at Rhyno. Watch where you walking big man. He says with a wink, then his face turns serious. My apologies Rhyno, that could have been much worse. Let's get patched up and go get the bastard that set this. Ryster gets Chorister to use the wand on him and Rhyno, the tries to sneak down the hall.

Tall vaulted ceilings disappear into darkness high above as candles and torches barely illuminate the lower reaches of this room. Along the north wall are three cell doors, thick wooden affairs bracketed by solid steel bracings with small, six-inchsquare windows set high in them. Enormous crates, barrels, and sacks of goods are stacked neatly in the southwest corner of the room. The floor is clean granite, etched with a wavy line pattern that permeates throughout the entire room; the design even climbs the walls and disappears into the vaults above. A rat-shaped chalk drawing dominates the floor in the center of the room, clearly depicting a dire rat leaning forward as if to pounce. Thick wooden doors in the east wall
lead to a set of steep stairs beyond.

"You're late my love", a gentle baritone calls out as the party enters the room.

"What the- You're not my beloved", a young Taldan man in breastplate with a flail at his hip says as the group comes into view. Standing adjacent him is an undead figure in rotted armor, unarmed other than a pair of deadly claws.

"Kill them! They can't stop the coming Cataclysm!"

Hearing the man's orders, Rhyno knows parlay is out of the question, not that he really wanted to anyway. Charging in at the closest foe H, he brings the earthbreaker around in a nasty arcing swing.

Not liking the beating Rhyno is taking, Chorister does hurry over and touch the mans shoulder, expending another spell to heal the damaged man.

The man reels from Alexia's spell just long enough to get a bullet in the gut. With a hateful snarl on his lips, he falls to the ground dying.

Ryster wipes the sweat from his brow and begins searching the bodies and the room.


Ryster discovers that the crates and barrels on the northern side of the room contain foodstuffs and medical goods, enough supply a small army for a time.

The fallen cleric has breastplate and a flail of common quality and wears an amulet in the shape of a stylized skull. Chorister recognizes this as the emblem of Groetus, God of the End Times. On his hip there is a ring of keys.

To the south there are four cell doors with small barred windows in each. A peek inside reveals all of them to be packed with prisoners and one contains an unconscious Cestis.

Ryster grabs the keys and attempts to unlock Cestis' cell, then checks the others.


Cestis has been badly beaten but his injuries aren't life threatening. The other prisoners have all suffered similar abuse but all appear capable of a full recovery.

"Thank you!" one of them cries out. "That man was insane. He was going to sell us as slaves."
