Welcome.
This is the recruitment for Fate/Kings, a campaign utilizing Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG in conjunction with a setting based of Fate and K Project. Anyone is welcome to join, even if you've never played Anima or know nothing about Fate. In fact, I would like those curious to check out the Handbook and decide if you want to take a shot at something new!
I'm here to help and encourage you guys, so come on in! Even if you want to just take some time to talk about some historical figure or folklore you're especially fond of. I want to see that passion! Let's have fun!
Fate/Kings takes place in a near-future approximation of our world as it could be in the year 2024 A.D. In this world, magic and the supernatural clash with the oblique facade of modern society. Monster sightings, unregistered summoning, and appearances of the mutagenic strain continue to rise year after year. A secret cabal of magi quietly suppress these incidents for the sake of humanity as a whole. Among them are the Kings: six individuals who have been imbued with incredible power by the Dresden Slate via their Swords of Damocles.
Behold the revival of mankinds greatest legends!
If you don't have access to any Anima books but still want to play then contact me and I will work with you to get a character made.
I want to hear your comments and questions! Post them here or feel free to message me! Recruitment will be open until 8/12.

Oh my gosh I never thought I'd see the day.
Dotting for heavy interest, I've got a few character ideas that may work.
Edit: So, if I'm understanding this right, are we making both a servant and a clansman? I've been at work for about thirteen hours, so I don't rightly trust my judgment at the moment.
Edit2:I don't think I understood correctly. It appears that we are to choose either clansman or servant, I think. I'll definitely have to consider that carefully, it's a tough choice. I'm leaning Servant, however.

Madcaster |

In life he enjoyed eating, reading stories and listening to music; in the modern era comic books, manga and fantasy books would particularly capture his interest.
Although many parallels can be drawn between him and the King of Knights, Charlemagne did not fail his kingdom, and lived a full life, dying at age 71 with a mighty empire under his command, which would last for nearly 1000 years more.
Noble Phantasm:
Joyeuse - Sword of Prismatic Glory
Charlemagne's holy sword blessed by God and given to him by Gabriel to replace Durandal, which he was told to give to Roland in a dream. A flawless sword, constantly changing its color, cycling through the entire visible spectrum and sometimes appearing multi-colored (which led to it sometimes being confused with the Sword of the War God); its sight evokes feelings of happiness and joy. A divine construct that, like many of the Paladins' swords, contains a holy relic within it - however, as the emperor of Paladins, his sword contains the mightiest relic: the Lance of Longinus, stored within its hilt and acting as a source of power. The sword protects his owner, shedding bright light when it's true name is spoken and inflicting damage upon the unholy.
Joyeuse Longin – Spear of Destiny
The spear used by the Roman soldier Longinus to pierce the body of Jesus Christ to confirm the death of the Son of God. A First-Class Relic, it is contained within Joyeuse’s hilt. By calling the name of Longinus, Charlemagne releases the spear from within his sword. Unlike Joyeuse, which he can wield at all times, the lance can only be wielded for a limited amount of time, since he is not a Lancer.
The spear deals increased damage against Servants with Divinity. One time only it becomes possible to perform a much stronger attack: Joyeuse Longin – Mortuus est Dei Filius (The Son of God is Dead). This will instantly kill the opposing Servant with Divinity, without any chance of resistance. Unlike the Barbed Spear that Pierces with Death, which kills the foe by piercing their heart, the cause of death will be asphyxia. It is mandatory that Saber pierces the target’s body with the spear after they suffocate to confirm the death. Otherwise, the dead Servant will immediately return at full health.
I added Non-Supernatural Paladin to the Class Table, and with my poor excel skills I'm not sure if it's correct.
Misc bonuses in Feats of Strength and Withstand Pain - Natural bonuses for 1st and 2nd level.
I also missed a couple of bugs when checking the spread sheet:
It seems to miscalculate some bonuses - Ride doesn't add Agility bonus, Martial Arts advantage doesn't add to MK. For now, I've added them as Misc bonuses.

EmissaryOfTheNorth |

Guess who just finished Fate/Zero a couple days ago and is getting through Unlimited Blade Works right now?
I will tentatively dot while I check the system, as I am unfamiliar with it and wouldn't want to hop in if I am going to slow you down due to it.
Unimportant edit: Recently, as my group of friends and I have been commenting the Fate Series, we've been discussing cool historical and legendary figures that would make for great summons, sometimes making teams of our own. I will only add that El Cid, Don Quixote, Rasputin and Shaka Zulu were my Saber, Berserker, Caster Lancer Heroic Spirits.

You will have to choose between submitting a Servant or a Clansmen. I'd be fine with you creating multiple characters to see which you prefer, but in the end only one will be considered per applicant.

I added Non-Supernatural options in for both Paladin and Dark Paladin into the sheet link I posted above.
@EmissaryOfTheNorth, @Vrog Skyweaver
I want to encourage anyone who may have never played Anima to join in. If you're at all interested, in either the system or this game specifically, then I will do whatever I can to help you along. Anima can be a great system, even if the book sometimes has issues with layout and translation.

GM JC Spooks |

Holy s!$@
Is this a fate stay night type game?
Hmm what to play as..... hmm
Can I summon the Magus Killer as assasin?
Unfortunately, no. He died well after 1960 and didn't have any Counter Hero shenanigans going on like Emiya. That said: you could certainly make a gun-totting servant or clansmen with an anti-magic focus.

Vrog Skyreaver |

I'm currently leaning towards making a Clansmen of the Silver Clan.
Right now, I'm leaning towards either a firearms specialized character or a psychic.
I'm reading through the book, but you're not wrong about the layout being wierd. It jumps around alot, and I can't find a good step-by-step list of what I need to do to create a character, although I can *kinda* piece it together based on glancing through the various sections.

GM JC Spooks |

What's the big deal about 1960?
(I'm already thinking about the red Barron as rider now though)
Heroic Spirits need time to build their legends and mysteries. Generally speaking, this is why modern spirits have unusual Parameters. I chose 1960 because it partially allows some WWII figures and cuts off the cold war era and onwards.

There's two step by step guides. I linked one in the resources spoiler, and there's a second in the Player's Handbook starting at "Grand Summoning Ritual: Wayland the Smith".
You didn't add Non-Supernatural Paladin skills cost, only the Life, Zeon and Innate stuff.
Apologies. I will adjust this when I get home.

![]() |

To be entirely fair, given that he's known more by his title than his name, and the number of people he's killed, he probably would be heroic spirit material and the ritual can explicitly summon spirits from the future as it contacts the throne which exists more or less outside of time
But yeah, red Barron as rider sounds just fine instead

GM JC Spooks |

GM JC Spooks wrote:Apologies. I will adjust this when I get home.No worries. There's a lot of stuff in this spread sheet.
I can't seem to find anywhere were the Secondary Ability costs for a non-supernatural paladin are adjusted. It seems they only lose the bonus to banish, zeon, and gain a bonus to composure. Can you clarify what needs to be changed?

GM JC Spooks |

What do you think of gun users for servants. Because I had a thought to use Lyudmila Pavlichenko, famous WWII sniper, as Archer (if a certain golden douchebag can get away with throwing a bunch of swords then I can use a gun)
I have no issues with a gun user (such as Samuel Colt, for example). However, Miss Pavlichenko passed away in 1974 which is past the Heroic Spirit cutoff date of 1960.
You could alternatively consider Yamamoto Yaeko

GM JC Spooks |

Whiskey here, AKA Pengaal from An Age of Deep Waters. Consider me very interested; I've a fair bit of reading to do though before I give you a concept. I also have zero experience with Anima so expect a few questions as they pop up.
Welcome!
Feel free to post any questions here, or drop me a line via PM; whatever works for you!

I would personally argue that miss Pavlichenko may have died in 1974, but the actions for which she was famous, namely her exemplary sniping and 309 credited kills, took place between 1941 and 1943 (counting her rallying tours in the Ally nations).

I understand. However, the date I have given for cutoff specifically refers to the date of death, not the date of significant events in that persons life.

A couple questions:
1. If a servant class is 'called' or 'claimed' does that cut it off from being used by other players or 'clansmen?'
2. When are you thinking of wanting everyone to be ready by? That'll give me a decent idea of how much time I have to consider choices.
3. Same as the first question, but with clansmen, is it first come first served, an official recruitment, or free to do what we'd like?

GM JC Spooks |

(I'm a little tired right now so hopefully these answers make sense).
A couple questions:
1. If a servant class is 'called' or 'claimed' does that cut it off from being used by other players or 'clansmen?'
Overlap is just fine. Everyone could run all Berserkers if they wanted too, that'd probably be fun! Even if two people were to submit Sabers to a clan at the same time there wouldn't be a problem.
2. When are you thinking of wanting everyone to be ready by? That'll give me a decent idea of how much time I have to consider choices.
Recruiment closes on 8/12, by which time you should have a developed concept for consideration. Mechanics aren't necessarily important at that point (I can help with that part), but at the very least you should have a solid idea of what you will be playing.
3. Same as the first question, but with clansmen, is it first come first served, an official recruitment, or free to do what we'd like?
You're free to submit whatever you like, so long as it meets the constraints I've laid out so far. You could even link character backstories with somebody else to create a joint submission if you were so inclined.

New concept: Atalanta, the virgin huntress of Greek mythology, summoned as an Archer (as she was a proxy for Artemis and drew first blood on the Calydonian Boar with her bow).
If it helps you, Atalanta has appeared before.
If you wanted to have the same servant without worrying about any type-moon lore, you could always create an "alter" version.

GM JC Spooks |

That's actually a hindrance, I'm trying to go totally new. Suppose that's what I get for not watching Apocrypha.
Ah, sorry. I didn't mean to shoot down your second concept. I find it works to just search the type-moon wiki if you're concerned that a particular servant has appeared before.
If there's anything I can do to help then let me know.

GM JC Spooks |

I'm trying to think of a totally new servant as well. I thought Faust as Caster would be cool, but it turns out Faust's demonic supplier has appeared.
Still working on character building. Reading on the clans now.
You could do something related to the concept of Faustian Bargains, like The Picture of Dorian Gray or Saint Theophilus the Penitent.

Or Robert Johnson.

Oh or Dr Jekyl as Bessemer!
Get a freaking spell slinging (via alchemy) berzerker
I'm thinking about building some sort of familiar focused support Magus character, a former third born child to a prominent mage family, they knew they weren't going to tiger their families crest they decided to join in with one of the kingdoms to Persue another avenue(and maybe show their family who should have been heir)
I guess the class for that would be called "warrior summoner"?
I've not ever used this system

It depends. If you only want to utilize summoning you would want to go with just Summoner. Otherwise, you would go for one of the mixed classes for Mystic, Domine, or Psychic depending on if you wanted to use Magic, Ki Abilities, or Psionic Matrices respectively.

GM JC Spooks |

I just had an idea and now I'm conflicted as to what spirit to summon
The red Barron as rider....
Or Vlad The Impaler as lancer
Vlad has appeared as both a Berserker and a Lancer, if you wanted to look him up.
Side note: you seem to just have linked the things you have changed in the base rules to fit the setting
Could you also link the base rules or something?
Unfortunately no. Anima isn't liscensed under any sort of OGL and even though the book isn't actually being sold anymore, I could still get in trouble with the powers that be if I were to provide a pdf (nor could I tell you where to look if you wanted to find the digital pdfs for yourself).
That said, under the resources spoiler there is a link to an incomplete srd that explains how some of the core rules work.

Okay, so I'm going with a Silver Clansman "gunslinger": Since there isn't a gun focused class (that I have access to), I'm going with Agile Fighter (Fighter Archetype). I say gunslinger, but I really see him more in the vein of Chow Yun Fat's The Killer or Hardboiled, as opposed to old west/high noon shootouts.
If there is a class that would better fit "Gun Guy", let me know what book it's in and I'll look at it.
