Game Master Minister Pain

That really was beautifully written. Considering we've applied as the same character class, I'm suddenly much less confident in my chances of being picked.

Don't think that! Besides, kineticist builds run the gamut. They also have the unique capability of actually using their powers in consort making multiple kineticists much less of a drawback.

:-)

But thank you for the compliment, too!

Current list of applicants:

Did I miss anyone?

Oh, no. I've just discovered the catastrophic data loss happening on Myth-weavers. It seems my character sheet was reverted to an earlier version, and will have to be fixed.

But, considering that a large chunk of the other characters I'm currently playing as have been completely deleted, I suppose I was lucky that this one just lost a level.

Just how long have you been playing these games with people like me, anyway?

Don't we all play such games from the moment we learn to walk and talk? These same games merely increase in complexity as we get older. You might say that we're destined to play such games from the moment we are born, or in Our case, the moment We aren't.

Fezont Brichton, an orphaned gnome sorcerer who accidentally made a deal with a devil.

Appearance:
Fezont Brichton is tiny, standing at just over 2 feet tall. This could be attributed to his young age, but many in his family rarely reached 3 feet in height. He sports a neon green mop on the top of his head and has dark red eyes that seem to big for his face. His skin is a light blue tint except for splotches of red that would match his eyes, but when mixed with the blue of skin create a purplish appearance. He is dressed down, wearing an ill-fitting outfit consisting of only a shirt that is missing a few buttons and pants tied with an oversized drawstring. His shoes have so many holes in them from walking, they can hardly be called shoes anymore.

Build:
FEZONT BRICHTON

SPECIAL TRAITS:
___________________________________
Defensive Training: Gnomes gain a +4 dodge bonus to AC against monsters of the giant subtype.
Illusion Resistance: Gnomes gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against illusion spells and effects.
Keen Senses: Gnomes receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks
Obsessive: Gnomes receive a +2 racial bonus on a Craft or Profession skill of their choice. Chose Craft (Crossbow Bolts)
Gnome Magic: Gnomes add +1 to the DC of any saving throws against illusion spells that they cast. Gnomes with Charisma scores of 11 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities: 1/day—dancing lights, ghost sound, prestidigitation, and speak with animals. The caster level for these effects is equal to the gnome's level. The DC for these spells is equal to 10 + the spell's level + the gnome's Charisma modifier.
Hatred: Gnomes receive a +1 bonus on attack rolls against humanoid creatures of the reptilian and goblinoid subtypes because of their special training against these hated foes.
Weapon Familiarity: Gnomes treat any weapon with the word “gnome” in its name as a martial weapon.
Low-Light Vision: Gnomes can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.

* Bloodline Arcana: Whenever you cast a spell that kills one or more living creatures with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher, the caster level of any spell you cast in the next round increases by +1 for each creature your first spell killed. This ability does not stack with other effects that increase your effective caster level, and you cannot gain a bonus greater than 1/2 your Charisma modifier (minimum 1). The second spell you cast must be of an equal or lower level than the first one.
* Wasting Ray: At 1st level, as a standard action, you can impose either starvation or thirst upon a living creature you can see within 30 feet. This requires the creature to make a Constitution check each round (DC 10 + 1 for each previous check) to avoid taking 1d6 points of nonlethal damage. The creature must continue to make these checks until, as a full-round action, it quenches its thirst or sates its hunger (see starvation and thirst). You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier, but can only apply it once every 24 hours to any given creature. Creatures that do not need to eat are immune to this effect.

5 questions:
1. How did your parents die?

”Well my uncle Screwtape showed up a few weeks ago. He comes to visit me every now and then, but Mommy and Daddy can never see him. Or they say that, anyway. I think they were lying. Normally Uncle Screwtape and me have lots of fun together, but this time he showed up all frowny faced.” Fezont screws up his face in confusion. ”I didn’t understand a lot of what he was saying, but he made me sign a piece of paper. And then I had all these cool powers!” His face darkens. ”Mommy and Daddy didn’t like that. They locked me in my room! They were gonna send me away! I got so thirsty while I was in there… I think they were trying to kill me!” The young gnome starts crying. Through his tears, he says, ”Then Uncle Screwtape came back. He showed me how I could make Mommy and Daddy feel the same way. I just wanted to teach them a lesson. I didn’t think…..“ He trails off, whimpering.

2. What is your greatest fear?
Fezont goes quiet and his eyes dart around the room before speaking in a whisper. ”I’m afraid of Uncle Screwtape. He used to be so nice and fun. But now…” He shudders violently. ”I don’t… I don’t wanna talk about this anymore.”

3. What is your greatest wish? I ask merely so that I can ensure that it doesn't accidentally get granted during the game.

”I just… I just wanna see my parents again. Tell them I’m sorry.”

4. Who is your least favorite scholar and why is it Professor Togren?

”I had hoped Professor Togren wouldn’t believe me about Uncle Screwtape. I hoped he’d tell me none of it happened, that it was all a bad dream. But when I told him what happened with my parents…”Fezont sniffles and gets quiet. ”He just… smiled. He seemed excited. He wouldn’t tell me why.”

5. An untimely computer crash caused me to lose my original post and I've forgotten the fifth question. Instead I'd like you to ask me a question about myself - it can be absolutely any sort of question as long as it hasn't been asked.

I can’t really top the in character responses others have crafted for this, so I’ll just ask: Who is your favorite of Count Olaf’s henchman and why is it the Hook-Handed Man?

I've got the character sheet back to almost how it was before. Everything should be in order now!

He has a name you know! Fernald!

@Ren Cooper: Wow, thanks. Admittedly it was your own in-character responses that inspired the format. I appreciate your compliment.

Allow me to riff off of you as well as come about full circle with the best of intentions then. Revised Ren Cooper's Q&A to reflect a similar interaction with the same caseworker. Some would say she should seek new employment but apparently the position was made with her in mind. I could see a dozen counseling sessions run through her, like a temp agency, plausible deniability with a facade of compassion. Apparently Prof Torgren graduates his charges on a regular basis to conquer the world as they never seem to return.

Plus it fleshed out how Prof Torgren is blackmailing Ren. So it works.

Lol, she's certainly a tad more sadistic this round. But if Ren's a delinquent, that attitude and tolerance of such harsh punishment would fit the 'era' and mindset assuming it's the Borderland Provinces equivalent of USoE.

By the by, I think HeroLab may have cut off the background you wrote a little bit. I'm assuming you output from there since their copyright info appears at the bottom of your profile. I mention it since I'm curious what I'm not getting to read. :)

Gloom and doom most certainly might,
Appear in the posts that I am composing.
Brace yourselves for Saturday night,
When recruitment is most certainly closing.

Few mistakes I've caught looking over character sheets:

  • Aisling, your ability scores don't match up on your profile/mythweavers sheet, double check them. 15 point buy, +2 dex -2 str for being small.
  • Agana, look at your ability scores as well. When I add them up you have one more point to spend. I think you forgot to factor in the small size ability score adjustments.
  • Leera, don't forget that you only get one trait unless you take a drawback, due to your limited experience.
  • Fezont, I don't see any trait on your character at all.

in the original post you said small was optional, that might be the reason. either that or the recent mythweavers data loss messed everything up. either way i'll check it and report back sometime tonight or tommorrow morn

Interesting, it would seem HeroLab doesn't output the drawbacks.

I selected Anxious as Leera Atmos' drawback which may also provide some insight as to why Leera spoke so softly in the Q&A RP I wrote.

Small is optional, I thought that you had taken the option.

Oh, shoot. I had it written down and forgot to type it up. I wanted to take Naturally Gifted for a trait.

me nah, i'll still check the stats i've been meaning to anyway as a double check

So after checking the sheet is messed up. Reverted to a prior version . The scores on the profile are correct, but the will take a day to fix. Nothing to hard though human lore warden finesse based fighter

I am toying with the drawback of Paranioa for Carbendum Lobber. Both fit nicely with Ren's outlook and adaptablness.

Oh, whoops! I had, in fact, forgotten to apply the str/dex adjustments. It's fixed now.

So does anyone know what happened to mythweavers? i have never used them myself but I keep hearing all over the site about how mythweavers has crashed and everyone lost their data. Anyone know?

it was screw up on one of the runners parts, basically the sight lets you save your sheets. those saves were lost, most of them anyway.
thats the gist of it anyway

Yeah, they had to roll back a year's worth of data, which means basically everything is lost.

Tragique, indeed.

It was, everything should be fine with my sheet now.

I was among the ones affected by the Mythweavers crash, so I have no crunch. However, I would like to submit Tikleurious Renz Aka Tikkle. Certainly his chipper demeanor is ill fit for such a horrid story, but how much more fitting could it be than to dampen the brightest mood? He is a Human Swashbuckler, primarily Charismatic, and secondarily dextrous. (Sorry if you see the profile before I change that. Old character living on in spirit)

How did your parents die?
I happened to be away, testing my acrobatics in a ruined building. It was a nice day, despite the dismal weather. Then my younger sibling found me, with a well dressed yet mousy looking man in tow... (I hope for another player to be my sibling, sharing their parents' demise)

What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is an existential one. A term that here means that for lack of knowledge of the world, only my own limits seem to be what restrict or endanger me.

What is your greatest wish?
Tikkle has a simple dream. Standing atop a platform amidst a sea of adoring fans, witnesses to his Magnum Opus of daring feats.

Who is your least favorite scholar and why is it Professor Togren?
"Bah! He's such a bore! He smells funny, moves terribly slow, and hates cats! Whoever could really hate cats!?"

I have not screened the other posts to be sure my question hasn't been asked, BUT...
Which is worse? A torment with no means of escape, or a torment with the eternal hope of one day being free?

I've been wracked by fire, ahem, fever these past few days, so I'm going to let you all stew in nervous anticipation a little longer until I've picked the party and set everything up.

dang, well take your time. fevers are no joke...they suck... i also recently got over a cold myself.

The Exchange

I remain untouched by the scourge, clearly a benefit of excellent breeding stock and youthful vigor.

Here's hoping you have a speedy recovery, DM Pain!

Forgive me dearly, my attentions had been waylaid. The following six orphans I have selected to participate in miserable activities:

Aisling Frost-Wing
Agana Besken
Ren Cooper
Venthrus the Slums Shaman
Leera Atmos
Fezont Brichton

I'd like to thank all those who didn't apply - you made the correct choice.

A gameplay and discussion thread have been set up, we'll take it slow over the weekend.

"Oh, so you chose me to suffer and be miserable? Oh I guess HERE is where I thank you?"

"... I hope you know I pray for your death regularly Professor!"

Thanks for the opportunity. ;)
