Female Human Hexcrafter Magus 3

With a grin Akasha begins a slow round of applause at Silian's brutal ingenuity.

Shadow Lodge

Male Elf Druid 3

Silian takes the book, "I would have used the rusted 'forged, but odds are the Cannith have these doors protected for their precious scrap heaps." Cautiously, he touches the book to the center of the door's sigil.

Male (Channel 4/4 2d6 DC 12 will), (Liberation 3/3 rounds), (Touch of Good 8/8) Human Cleric 3 (Hp 24/24),(AC20, T13, FF18),(Saves F4, R2, W8), Init 2, Percept 8

Impressive, and the lock is a little bit worrying.

Seeing Silian use the book on the door, he gets ready for the unknown.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

As Silian touches the book to the door, the door begins to glow faintly to the naked eye; swirling colors of energy that make quite a lovely display. The light moves into the book, dimming as it does as if the book were devouring the magic itself. After a few heartbeats, it is done and the light is gone. A soft click can be heard.

Female Human Hexcrafter Magus 3

"Well, here goes nothing." Akasha says grasping hold of the hatch and lifting.

Male (Channel 4/4 2d6 DC 12 will), (Liberation 3/3 rounds), (Touch of Good 8/8) Human Cleric 3 (Hp 24/24),(AC20, T13, FF18),(Saves F4, R2, W8), Init 2, Percept 8

Jonah picks up his lantern and makes ready to follow along.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

The circular door opens with mild resistance, and a slight squeak of hinges onto a vertical shaft 5-feet wide and cloaked in pitch blackness. A breeze pushes through the shaft, lifting the stench of the filth surrounded yourself with for a precious few breaths.

Shadow Lodge

Male Elf Druid 3

"Do we shut the door behind us to forgo being followed but risk being trapped? I am willing to bet in this network of tunnels that there is more than one entrance, Cannith or otherwise."

Male (Channel 4/4 2d6 DC 12 will), (Liberation 3/3 rounds), (Touch of Good 8/8) Human Cleric 3 (Hp 24/24),(AC20, T13, FF18),(Saves F4, R2, W8), Init 2, Percept 8

I am thinking that we should close it, but I agree that we should still be wary

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Being a vertical shaft, ropes would be wise.

Female Human Hexcrafter Magus 3

Taking the rope she carries out and securely tying one end to the mos secure surface she can find, Akasha cast a light spell on the rope itself before dropping it down into the darkness.

Male (Channel 4/4 2d6 DC 12 will), (Liberation 3/3 rounds), (Touch of Good 8/8) Human Cleric 3 (Hp 24/24),(AC20, T13, FF18),(Saves F4, R2, W8), Init 2, Percept 8

Jonah looks at the glowing rope end as it goes into the dark.

Shadow Lodge

Male Elf Druid 3

While Akasha lowers the glowing rope, Silian cracks a sunrod and drops it down the pit to get an estimate of depth... and anything squishy or nefarious at the bottom.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

It looks like the shaft drops about 30 feet before it begins to slightly curve off.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

OK, I'm assuming we're climbing down the shaft...

One by one you make your way into the dank, tight tunnel. Working your way down the rope you see that the shaft is a mix of crumbling earth and ancient stone. Centipedes and other insects cover the walls like living decorations. The long descent takes you deeper into the bowels of Dorasharn Tower. Soon, the shaft begins to angle, and by bracing yourself you can actually walk along one of the surfaces. Further still, and the shaft becomes a tunnel, and the footing is no longer difficult to maintain or treacherous.

The tunnel eventually opens onto a vast changer, though it emerges about six feet above the floor. You can't see the distant walls in the darkness, and the ruins of nearby walls and building appear as deep shadows in the eternal tower night, but you can feel the change in air currents and pressure that indicate a large open space ahead of you.

Female Human Hexcrafter Magus 3

Casting another light spell on her wrist cuff, Akasha drops down from the tunnel, slowly walking forward, her sword drawn just in case.

Male (Channel 4/4 2d6 DC 12 will), (Liberation 3/3 rounds), (Touch of Good 8/8) Human Cleric 3 (Hp 24/24),(AC20, T13, FF18),(Saves F4, R2, W8), Init 2, Percept 8

Jonah lowers himself down, and then picks up his lantern and follows along with the group.

Well, this is not what I expected. he whispers.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

A constant background noise rises from the walls and ruins around you. It takes a moment to recognize, but eventually the sounds of chittering and buzzing can be picked out from among the cacophony. It's not unlike the sound of insects in the King's Forest, except that the chamber seems to amplify and echo the noise in disturbing ways.

Perception DC15:
You hear the sound of angry chittering and clacking of carapaces suddenly grow louder as a swarm of black beetles rushes towards you.

Female Human Hexcrafter Magus 3

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 19

"$#!+ beetles incoming!" Akasha yells, sheathing her blade and preparing a spell.

Sheathe sword, readied action to cast Burning hands when beetles are within 5 ft of her.

Shadow Lodge

Male Elf Druid 3

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

"Bugs? Marvelous. Disgusting vermin." Standing at the edge but not dropping down, Silian fishes out a flask of alchemist's fire and waits til he sees the insects.

Will move up behind Vannevar if he drops down, or beside him if he does not.

Male personality Warforged Rogue (Kidnapper)/2, Monk (Sacred Mountain)/1

Garotte walks forward and jumps down beside Akasha.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

The warforged hears the incoming beetles, but just stands beside the Captain.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Even with Akasha's warning, anyone who fails the check cannot act in the surprise round.

Initiative:

Akasha 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Tava 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Silian 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Jonah 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Garotte 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Vannevar 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Beetle Swarm 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

R1
Akasha, Swarm, Jonah, Vannevar, Garotte, Silian, Tava

Male Elf Fighter (Unbreakable)/2

Vannevar fails to hear the change in the movement of the insects around him.

Perception1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Jonah Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Tava Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Looks like poor Vannevar is the only one, ironically, to not realize trouble is on its way. Tava and Jonah both ready weapons. The swarm advanced forward for their surprise round. Regular turns now.

R1
Akasha, Swarm, Jonah, Vannevar, Garotte, Silian, Tava

Female Human Hexcrafter Magus 3

Bracing herself for what she is sure will be painful before it's all over, Akasha waits until the swarm is within 5 ft of her before unleashing her spell, a jet of flame washing over the advancing beetles.

Burning Hands: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

The swarm moves forward, the beetles flowing over themselves like a viscous fluid. Akasha releases a burst of flames from her fingertips, frying some of the beetles but it is not enough to stop them from spilling over onto her and Garotte.

Automatic Damage to Akasha 1d4 ⇒ 2
Automatic Damage to Garotte 1d4 ⇒ 4

Move clear

As soon as both Garotte and Akasha are clear, Jonah throws an alchemical fire into the swarm.

hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Ranged Touch
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Splash weapon

Will delay my action until they have moved.

Male Elf Fighter (Unbreakable)/2

Vannevar moves forward and swings his sword through the swarm in a horizontal arc, attempting to break up the massive mound of creatures and hopefully kill a few of them in the process.

Greatsword 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 2) + 3 = 9

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Unfortunately, Vannevar's broad swing was too slow to catch any of the vermin who continued to move and flow away from his sudden movement.

R1
Akasha, Swarm, Jonah, Vannevar, Garotte, Silian, Tava

Male personality Warforged Rogue (Kidnapper)/2, Monk (Sacred Mountain)/1

The warforged attempts to stomp on beetles, oblivious to its lack of effectiveness, then attempts to step to the side.

Slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Shadow Lodge

Male Elf Druid 3

Silian rolls his eyes. "Incoming!" He lobs his flask into the throng of beetles, aiming it closer to the warforged than Akasha.

Tossing the flask down into the square that Garotte just moved out of.

Alchemist's Fire: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
I will let you handle the miss!

However, if you target a grid intersection, creatures in all adjacent squares are dealt the splash damage, and the direct hit damage is not dealt to any creature. You can't target a grid intersection occupied by a creature, such as a Large or larger creature; in this case, you're aiming at the creature...

Right, and even though it technically has a creatures there they aren't considered Large or larger so it would still be targeting the square, is my take. Thoughts?

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

I'm gonna count it as a hit. Garotte and Akasha also take splash damage, however.

Tava moves forward past Vannevar and begins stabbing her spear into the swarm, but as with Vannevar's sword and Garotte's stomping, the bugs move and flow around the spear completely.

Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

R2
Akasha, Swarm, Jonah, Vannevar, Garotte, Silian, Tava

Female Human Hexcrafter Magus 3

Feeling the multitude of beetles crawling over every part of her, Akasha fights down the rising panic that threatens to overtake her. Realizing her sword would be useless, the magus goes into a diving roll taking her clear of the swarm.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

The swarm undulates, shifting and moving towards Vannevar and Tava covering them in a wave of beetles.

Automatic Damage to Vannevar 1d4 ⇒ 4
Automatic Damage to Tava 1d4 ⇒ 1

Jonah, I'm assuming that you didn't throw the flask because Akasha, Silian, Vannevar, and Tava are still within splash damage range. If I'm wrong, let me know.

Male (Channel 4/4 2d6 DC 12 will), (Liberation 3/3 rounds), (Touch of Good 8/8) Human Cleric 3 (Hp 24/24),(AC20, T13, FF18),(Saves F4, R2, W8), Init 2, Percept 8

considering the splash is only a cross template, it would only get 2, however i wasnt planning on setting friendlies on fire.

Cursing slightly under his breath.
move so we can burn them

edit, at work and cannot access the map. Will move up slightly for a better throw

Male Elf Fighter (Unbreakable)/2

HP 14/18

Fortitude 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Seeing that his sword is not going to aid him against this particular foe, Vannevar attempts to grab a hold of Tava, but her flailing proves too much, as he moves back out of the swarm and a few feet away.
Grab Tava 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

OK, I'll let you handle moving your icon to where you want him when you can.

R2
Akasha, Swarm, Jonah, Vannevar, Garotte, Silian, Tava

Male personality Warforged Rogue (Kidnapper)/2, Monk (Sacred Mountain)/1

Confused, Garotte stands idle, unsure of how to handle the many tiny foes.

Shadow Lodge

Male Elf Druid 3

Not wanting to waste more flasks in causing more grief to his allies than the bugs, Silian tries another tactic. With a flick of his wrist and a whispered word in Mabran, Silian's hand holds a small ball of purple flame, that he then hurls down towards his feet, aiming closer to himself and trying not to singe Tava. Cast Produce Flame, targeting diagonal adjacent square.

Flame: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Immediately after hurling the flames, Silian's hand flares up again, ready for another toss.

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Silian's flame seems to be rather effective, and certainly less dangerous to his allies as it kills off a small area of insects just before the swarm flows over the small corpses, hiding them from sight.

Tava Fort 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Pulling a torch out of her pack, Akasha snaps her fingers with an arcane word, the end of the torch flaring to life.

Retrieve torch, cast spark

Now that I am at home, I moved my own icon. :)

Knowing that he cannot really help in this fight, he continues to wait until there are no friendlies in the swarm, at which point he throws his alchemist fire at it.

Will move back or forth slightly to stay out of the swarm as well. :)

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

The swarm appears to like the taste of orc, as it moves to follow Tava, once again covering her with beetles.

Automatic Damage to Tava 1d4 ⇒ 3

Vannevar heeds the cleric's request and moves himself further back from the swarm.

Silians flicks the other the other violet ball into the mass of insects, and his glove extinguishes.

If you want/need Crit confirmation
Crit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Boss Lady Dragon of the Early Evening

Swarms are not subject to critical hits, but thank you, sir!

As Silian sets fire to the bugs once more, the suddenly break apart and scurry away in different directions returning to various nooks, crannies, and the safety of the darkness.

Tava Fortitude 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
HP 15/19

"Ooouuccchh," Tava mimics the phrase she's heard her companions use when hurt. Flinging the bugs from her body the best she can she steps back out of the way as the bugs flee.
