I am a first time PFS participant and have never tried pbp. How often are you expecting posts? How can I learn more on the mechanics of pbp so that I can be a fruitful participant?
Until now I have only played on tabletop, both as a GM and as a player of D&D 3.5.

Xicotencatl - It will be in your best interest to post at least once per day, but if you can't, you will just miss your turn to act. To find out how pbp works, just fish around on some existing games to get a feel for it. Really, though, the best way to learn is to play. From my experience, pbp-ers tend to be easygoing and friendly, so just jump in. You have until 9pm EST to find a group to travel with. All you need is a character. I recommend myth- weavers.com for character sheets. You can paste the Stat block right into your alias.

Most of us are actually neutral! We have LN, N, CN.. and two gnomes! Should be a funny group with 3 hyperactive short ones, a loud smelly lion man, and a quiet tiefling.


Though I'm NG, that' mostly just because he leans toward "do no harm, and good when you can" as opposed to actively going out of his way to be good. I'll be straddling the line between NG and LN, in the interests of academia.


Thanks Jacob. I will try to have a character going and participating by 9pmEST. and if not, then latter, when you have an oppening. I use HeroLab. Will HL statblock work for pasting in the alias page? I have searched for a edit procedure to enter the statblock, but have not found it. Is there something I am missing?

Yeah, you can absolutely use herolab. I'm not personally familiar with it, but I think you can export a text only version of the char sheet. Paste that in your alias's description.


I have finished and updated my character. His name is Axcayacatl. Do I start posting with "his" alias? Do you still have space for a newbie?


Yeah, go ahead and start using that alias in the tavern thread. Just fish around and see if anyone is up for an extra.


Welcome to PbP, Xico!

If you have a character alias, with information written up in it, you should use that for posting, at least when in character.

Some tips for PbP posting (although I'm fairly new to it myself):

Third person generally seems to be the best voice to use, as it prevents the point of view from rapidly shifting as you read through a page of posts. This is different from most real life roleplaying that I've been part of, but I think it works well. A great advantage of PbP is that your only interaction with the other players tends to be in character, so there's much more opportunity to have interesting relationships with the rest of the party.

That's not strictly true. I'm an archaeologist bard, which is similar to the rogue only without sneak attack. However, the point remains. Come one, come all!

Hear ye! Hear ye! The great Lord Asmodeus has graced these parts with a host of his servants. The Legion of the Red Hand seeks one or more permanent members!

-First preference will go to Antipaladin, Barbarian, Ranger. (Melee characters who can bring some skills to the table. We already have a cleric, zen archer and wizard)
