Garrett Goodleaf |
I'm sorry guys! I had planned to get a post in earlier this afternoon, but had to assist our civil bureau with an eviction that did not go so well... I'll be ready for the next round though!
Cëanel Firdhanor |
Kay casts Grease on the construct and the other foe. "Standard construct procedure," he says calmly.
He also sends the celestial eagle off to attack the zombie.

Kay's magic works wonders. The eagle promptly tears the head off the zombie, which slumps to the ground. The construct REF: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 falls to the ground! It crawls out of the grease (still prone.)

Garrett tries to scan into the duststorm, but cannot see anything beyond the swirling sands. "Desh, where are you!? Are you okay?" He shouts to the half-orc. Instead of standing around helplessly, he sets another sling bullet towards where he thinks the remaining enemy is; however, the bullet simply disappears into the storm aimlessly.
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 36
Flyndal Danwrick |
Flyn tenses in anticipation awaiting the last zomb... constr... thing.
Readied Attack
Mwk Cold Iron Greatsword, Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Kohinoor an-Gul |
Kohi lobs a ball of fire at the construct, hoping it'll serve in place of a blade. However, her gout of flame gets snuffed out well before arriving on target by the speed of the wind.
Using Fire Bolt
Concealment?: 1d100 ⇒ 26
Dungeon Master S |
Ranged attacks still vex the Pathfinders, but the thing presses on. It stands Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18 and doesn't seem to see Desh, so it turns towards the stairs. (Add sneak attack, he didn't see you.)
Desh steps forward and stabs the thing in the back. The beast steps forward into Flyn's blade! Garrett and Flyndal need to make Fort Saves DC 12.
Good guys go.

Desh Greyskin |
Desh stalks along the wall, then hacks at the … whatever it is.
5’ step closer. Then Power Attack (including Sneak Attack for it not knowing and all).

add'l damage: 2d4 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 + 3 = 14
And since we seem to be rolling fort saves for being adjacent to it…
Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Sheesh. These rolls!
Chris Marsh |
No need to roll the Glitterdust, Desh's next swing does it in!
Out of combat.

*** Desh has earned Achievement: WRECKING BALL! ***
Jiminy Cripes ... those rolls!
Desh takes a few moments breathing heavily as he looks down at the still bodies. Then he looks up at his teammates.
"Courtyard's clear."
Kohinoor an-Gul |
Kohi lets the divine ebb away, staring at the golem with wide eyes. "I apologize. Sarenrae's light wouldn't touch it." She looks down swiftly as another gust of sand and wind whips against her face before walking down the stairs toward the double doors. "Can we get inside? It's not that it's bad out here; it reminds me of home. Only, we usually didn't ride out the worst of the sandstorms out of doors.
Cëanel Firdhanor |
"It was not undead--I wouldn't feel bad about it, Kohinoor," says Cëanel sympathetically. "I do wonder who made it, and how old it was...I truly do wonder about the longevity of these types of places..."
He follows Koh for a moment, then bows and offers the lead to Flyndal and Desh. "Lead on, mighty warriors. Really, I should just become a bard like Garrett and cheer you on..." He trails off with a decidedly gnomish grin.
Dungeon Master S |
The storm is still in effect, but outside of combat it's really only a nuisance.
Garrett Goodleaf |
Garrett grins at the elf. "Indeed. With mighty warriors such as these two, I find that cheering from the sideline is often more helpful than getting in their way." He blinks his eyes rapidly as a rather large piece of dust blows into them. "While I can now say that I've been in the middle of a dust storm, I would much rather be out of it. Shall we continue on?"
Dungeon Master S |
The courtyard yields nothing of value. The wording on the inside of the doorway spills over a bit, but that's it.
Garrett Goodleaf |
I say we save the double doors for last. Usually that indicates a more prominent doorway, which would seem to indicate a larger area to search... Just a thought!
Flyndal Danwrick |
“So the question then, is who put a construct here, and why?”
Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Garrett Goodleaf |
Desh Greyskin |
Nice list! :)
Desh pats Kohinoor on the shoulder, giving the priestess a rare, encouraging smile. He looks over at Kay as he cleans his blade. "Your magics have been useful. Though I won't turn down the encouragement."
Flyn's question brings him back to the moment, and he looks at the sand-blown courtyard, then shrugs. "Answers are inside?"
Desh helps Narad at the three doors. "Let's go in this one," he mutters as they work on the door farthest to their left. "If they're all connected, might make a cleaner sweep that way."
Desh auto-succeeds on Aid Another attempts to Narad's Perception rolls for traps on the doors.
Dungeon Master S |
Some of the list makes me cringe now (some sexist stuff) some sounds harsher than intended. It's also obvious that I have played way too many editions as some of these don't make sense in other editions. Still, I like it.
Narad declares the Western door safe, and opens it. This modest brick building provided housing for a caravan’s beasts when the fortress was active. Only the stone has survived intact, with empty sockets for lanterns at even intervals. Ancient tools for leatherworking sit on a table to the south, next to an empty stone trough. Barren stalls line the north wall. The remaining room is deemed similarly safe.
This room served at times as a smithy and at other times as a storage facility over the course of the fortress’s occupation. The chimney that rises from the small forge in the southwest corner is clogged with grit from centuries of storms, and the smith’s tools lie nearby under a thick layer of dust. The south door is cracked in places, and scattered crates are all that remain of a barricade erected by a few travelers to keep out the Emerald Sage’s evil. There are two containers that haven't spoiled. They're salts of some variety, like one would coat a weapon in...
Garrett Goodleaf |
Garrett moves into the room after Narah and Desh examine all the doors. He stops to sniff the salts. "Hmmm... interesting! Perhaps one of us is trained in the alchemic arts and can identify these salts?"
Desh Greyskin |
Desh stalks through the place, trying to sniff out anything useful or dangerous.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19; +1 vs traps
At the far end of the room, he helps Narad once more check for traps.
Another auto-succeed on the AA for Narad.
Dungeon Master S |
You guys find nothing else of importance.
Dungeon Master S |
Actually, I think as an alchemical item it's an auto-identify. Hmmmm If it were a home game, that'd be different methinks, but it's PFS so:
1 is a silver weapon blanch
2 is ghostbane salt.
Narad, Rogue |
"I don't have anything that would be useful against a ghost except three vials of Holy Water." Narad says.
Agreed. Flyn has the best odds of hitting incorporeal things hard.
"Shall we open the next door?"
Cëanel Firdhanor |
"Onward to the ominous double doors, then?" says Cëanel. "Lyffan can take a sniff at them as well."
His toad, which naturally has been here the entire time, blinks its eyes in the affirmative.
Narad, Rogue |
Hypnotoad! :-)
Flyndal Danwrick |
Kohinoor an-Gul |
All glory to the hypno-toad! Also, the situation with Kay's frog isn't anything like his avatar's in the comic. Nope. Not at all.
Kohi stands near the back of the party, not really saying much, with her spear ready for battle as needed.
Dungeon Master S |
Waiting on Narad to check the door and open?
Dungeon Master S |
Narad deems it safe.
A profound quiet has settled over this timeworn hall. Elegant stone columns line the passage, and hieroglyphics and colorful art depict scenes from a distant age. A small wooden door stands at the east end of the hallway, while a larger door leads south. The sound of steady splashing water is audible through an open passageway to the north, and large stone doors lead outside. One of the pillars has collapsed, and a crushed human corpse lies pinned underneath. The distinctive shape of a wayfinder peers out from under the body’s hand.
Perception and Knowledge (History)
Dungeon Master S |
Kay notices that each of the pharaohs bears three jewels on his or her head regalia: an emerald, topaz, and ruby. This is another hidden sign left by the Jeweled Sages. He also notices that the corpse has a wayfinder.
