"Huffy-puffers, eh? We'll see how you feel when you get tired tomorrow." Paul squeaks when she realizes she has said something sarcastic. "Sorry! I hope you'll continue braving the weather well tomorrow. And those watches sound good! I can be a 'book-end.'"

An animal musk, you said? Tuesday leans in behind Munk and gives him a good sniff
kn nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 Can Tuesday identify what kind of animal it is related to/it could attract?
I'm afraid my lungs weren't designed for these kind of conditions. Anyone object to me taking the full night's sleep? Still, we may acclimate to the altitude with time. This may get easier in the morning, depending on how steeply we need to ascend.

A few weeks old still seems WAY too recent.
Idgethun hunkers down and waits for the inevitable. "I'll take second watch."

Same plan as before with the endure elements? No idea what to do about the altitude...
I'm down with the Endure elements, if the casters are willing.
DMS, on the altitude--does Reigel think that slowing our pace would help? (you want a Survival or Heal check or something for that?)
I'll take a late-night watch--say, third. I can see in the dark.
Perception, third watch: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Idgethun

Idgethun also has darkvision. Perception (2nd Watch): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Before going to sleep, Odd will call upon her zeal to help close some of Riegel's wounds (expending one use of Fervor): Healing: 1d6 ⇒ 2 to Riegel.

Paul and Tuesday, I am not clear of your current hit points, but be sure to let me know if you need healing. : )

As you discuss watches and plans:
Munk Het: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Idgethun: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Paul: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Riegel: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Skybek: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Tuesday: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Most of the party spies a figure flying in from the cold. The creature has a vaguely humanoid head, the body of a lion, and the wings of a dragon. Its tail ends in long, sharp spikes. (Knowledge Arcana).
Baddies: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Munk Het: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Idgethun: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Paul: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Riegel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Skybek: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Tuesday: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Place your pog on the map anywhere close to the fire. Once placed I'll take it that you're ready to go.

"No worries, Riegel! We're in this together—spikes, odd smells, and all."
Munk and Rigel, can you kindly indicate your current hit points and your total hit points? This would help me keep you healthy for this adventure. :)
Yep, I'm currently at 30/30, thanks to all the healing. See stats block. I'll try to stay on top of this.

"AHhh! What is that thing? I've never seen something like that!" Munk gets into combat position. "I haaate flying creatures..."
Finally, I'm waiting on access to the map, so I can't position myself just yet.

Skybek recognizes it as a manticore, but doesn't know much beyond that. Map should be shared now.

Paul will draw her glaive and brandish it at the manticore.
"A large flying creature - my favorite." Paul's voice sounds a little more steady than any have heard it before. "I'm glad I have a polearm for moments like this!"
Paul, too, will ready an action to attack once the manticore is in range.

Round I
Odd draws her daggers and calls upon a well of zeal to swiftly cast stunning barrier, then readies an action to reach out and touch the manticore once it's in range (five-foot stepping to do so if necessary).
Touch Atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 If successful, Odd gains knowledge of the creature equal to a Kn Arcana check of 21 (through her Lore Keeper blessing).

Tuesday turns the Stink Eye on the manticore, Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 = Fail What effect do you want to give it with your Evil Eye? It may matter to the party's actions.

The encounter doesn't list it, so let's kick it old school.
Manticore: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Terrible conditions +5 (Dark and weather.) Distracted (setting camp) +5. Net differential is 16. Darkvision aplenty, but no LLV. Limiting factor prevails, the manticore is on an approach vector, and initiative starts at 60'

Round 1 Summary
Waiting for the manticore to close, the party prepares with weapons of violence and mayhem. Unfortunately, the beast halts it's flight about 40' out and whips it's tail around and a shower of spikes cascades down on the party.
Skybek: ATK: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Odd: ATK: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Riegel: ATK: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Munk: ATK: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Skybek: CONFIRM: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
The spikes slam into the Pathfinders. Blood and agony aplenty.
Skybek: DMG: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (2, 4) + 8 = 14
Odd: Miss
Riegel: ATK: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Munk: Miss
Manticore: (-2 Saves, 9 Rounds remaining)(20)
The beast sees no reason to close, and hovers in place (and therefore no readied actions go off. Begin Round 2.

ROUND 2
Riegel strides forward, to maximize his effectiveness with his pistol (gets within 20' of the bugger). He cocks his head to the side slightly, inhales deeply, and fires at the monster.
Spend 1 grit for Up Close & Deadly deed. (extra d6 damage, half that on a miss)
Discordia vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 6 + (5) = 16

DMS: Are we assuming that the pre-sleep healing (from Skybek and me) happened yet or no? That changes how much Fervor I have left (and how healthy some folks are). Also, how high up is the beast hovering?

Apologies for the lack of post.
Tuesday glares at the beast with a Big League Stink Eye. The manticore's eyes roll as he tries to fight the hex, but alas, Tuesday Will is the stronger and he crashes into the snow with a snore and a groan.
Still in initiative. Round 2, Skybek is up.

Round II
Just for kicks and giggles... Odd follows Skybek up to the creature, quickly casting magic weapon on her dagger Phomos (using Fervor for a swift cast again) and then reaches out to lightly touch (not slapping!) the creature. Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Using my Lore Keeper blessing; I gain knowledge of it equivalent to a Kn Arcana check of 21.
Armed with her daggers and her knowledge, Idgethun stands ready to finish the creature off should Skybek somehow fail...

Manticores have no particularly strange abilities or defenses. Looks like there's another 20 spikes it could hurl, and replacements are already growing.

ROUND 2
Riegel strides forward, placing Discoria a hair's breadth from the creature's skull. He gives Skybek and Odd each a nod, and cocks the hammer of his weapon, ready to fire.

Nor do I. Someone tell me if you're going to kill it.

"Save your pricey bullet, Riegel," Odd says softly. "I think our dwarven friend can handle this with his axe."
An auto-crit from Skybek will require a minimum DC Fort save of 34 for the manticore to survive. My daggers (and Riegel's gun, I'm guessing) are here just in case DMS rolls a nat 20. =)

Manticore steak for dinner!
| Dungeon Master S |
The night passes by uneventfully. If you are fatigued from yesterday, you're still fatigued today. You trudge out, towards the summit.
Around midday the clear air provides the first unobstructed view of the massive statues and mausoleums on the mountain’s peak, still a good half-day’s travel away. Now more than halfway up the mountain, the air is thin and the wind bitterly cold. The narrow path clings closely to the near-vertical rock face as it winds around crags and outcroppings, slowly climbing the massive edifice.
The trail is very narrow now. Are you travelling in the same marching order?

heh. I always forget about the fort save in a coup de grace.
Can we do chanelling/healing spells before sleep? there are sevearl of us injured.
Narrow trail: how about Skybek first, Reigel next, then Tuesday. Not sure who is best for rear guard...
