Dragonlance: Heroes of a New Age

Game Master Shalafi2412

What came before...:

Six months have passed since the War of Souls, an epic conflict that spanned the world of Krynn. After 39 years when the Gods have been silent and magic flowed unrestrained by the Moons, the Gods of Krynn have returned. The first among the Light, Paladine walks the earth as a mortal, while the Dark Queen Takhisis lies dead, leaving their places vacant among the heavens. Ansalon still bears scars of the decades where evil reigned upon the world in the Godless times. The Dark Knights of Neraka still subjugate numerous lands and the wicked minotaurs have begun a campaign of conquest. Many among the righteous and good have suffered in the Age of Mortals. Solamina's forces are weakened by the war, the elves are in exile, the Kender lands burned to ash and the dwarves in ever conflict with their darker brethren. Decades ago, the Companions saved the world from the brink of ruin. Now once again, heroes must rise and bring balance back to the world. Will you be among them?

The Ferver does not apply, it only applies to those who were in the radius of the spell before it was cast.

Anyway first to act is the Disir Shaman. One of the arrows hits him, the other misses as you notice he has some magical armor enhancement that turns aside one of the arrow blows. This Shaman appears to have some bracers of some kind across its arms and its robes have a few extra highlights. Still the attack does attract his ire and he points his claw at Athola .

Going to say this is a "High Priest" of the three Shamen so going to buff him up a bit. Didn't make sense that there wasen't a clear head priest defined in the encounters.

He utters a foul curse from his lips at Athola to afflict her with a blinding sickness. This will be a DC 17 Fortitude save or become permanently blind until cured.

As for the Disir Hybrid, it looks to Gabriel, takes a 5 foot step and attacks him with two claws and also try and grab Gabriel wit its tongue to attempt to pull him towards its gaping maw.

Claw 1: 1d20 + 19 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 19 - 2 = 20
Claw 2: 1d20 + 19 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 19 - 2 = 36
Claw 2 Damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (5, 2) + 10 = 17
Tongue Attack versus CMD: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26

Ok well here is how the Tongue Attack works. If it successfully hits it transfers the target into its mouth AND inflicts automatic bite damage. This does 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13 damage this round. In addition due to its Hybrid Status its attacks also have Disir Poison. Gabriel is now grappled as well. Next round it can attempt a Swallow Whole attempt. The poison is only a DC 16 Fortitude Save though.

Gabriel deflects the first claw only to have the second slice into him with its foul sharpness. He then gets hit with a foul tongue of the beast that wraps him up and pulls him toward the hideous maw of the beast which bites down on him.

DM, I cast the Blessing BEFORE Athola scouted ahead and we entered this Combat.

First I would like to cast some Buff spells: Bless, Bull Strength for both Jor and Gabriel, Bear's Endurance for Jor and Stunning Barrier for me.
Then turn the Kender invisible, I'll cast Blessing of Fervor and then on our opening Round you cast Fireball and I'll cast Holy Smite... Then we can go from there.

Sometimes the mouth of the beast is not so bad :). Assuming it is evil due to being combined with Disir if not ignore holy damage.

The dark elf will move up and cast Dalamar's Lightening Lance at the Shaman as he activates, as a free action minor synsery, which acts as if Nuitari is in alignment with another moon, getting rid of the -1 caster penalty to CL and saves
RTA 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

You create a crackling lance of lightning that you can hurl at your foes. You must succeed at a ranged touch attack roll to hit. The lance deals 3d6 points of damage from the impact of the strike, plus 1d6 electricity damage per caster level (maximum 10d6). The impact damage is not subject to being reduced by protection from the elements (electricity), spark shield, and similar magic or effects, but the target is entitled a Fortitude save to halve the electricity damage

Lance damage 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6) = 12

Electricity 8d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 6, 1, 3, 2, 5) = 28

Can the Tear heal the blindess?

It can although you need 4 charges to do it.

Gabriel frantically slashes at the beast while its Maw bites down stabbing it 3 times with his sword. Foul blood and bile bleeds out of it. Unfortunately he finds that opening wounds in this creature causes it to bleed out acidic fluid all over him. Gabriel takes 6d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 1, 3, 3) = 11 acid damage. His sword likewise would take 2d6 acid damage per hit. I don't think it stacks though so there is no chance of it passing the hardiness of his weapon.

Dragon Hybrid Reflex Save 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

The Hybrid gets struck by the bolt of lightning but evades a good chunk of the damage. He takes 12 bludgeoning and 14 electrical damage though which bypasses his damage reduction as its magical. The creature is clearly hurt badly but its still a massive beast with a lot of physical resistance.

By the way the creature ALSO counts as a Dragon for terms of extra damage for smite so apply any extra damage as appropriate.

As for the Blessing of Ferver, I thought you cast it in the first round of combat. Athola was no where near the party when the spell went off plus she was invisible.

Nope pre-combat. :-)

I didn't smite it, saving last one for possible other big bad though if things look grim when it swallows me we will see :) but it being dragon I assume will make it evil dragon so it will take the holly damage. If blessing was pre combat then this is the last round of it then as it is 8round duration and this was round 7 of combat.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20 Forgot to make the fort save above.

Ah ok my mistake, retcannon that it hit the priest. Unfortnately Reflex is is weakest save so the save should have failed and he does take the full 40 damage from the hit.

Not too shabby. Do we have a list of what the Corrupted Tear can do?

Pretty much does the opposite of the good tear. Here is what the corrupt tear does. Currently it has 20 charges and gets 1 charge back at nightfall or all of them if "Blessed" in a church of Chemosh.

1 Charge Powers

Bane
Cause Fear
Inflict Light Wounds

2 Charge Powers

Death Knell
Desecrate
Inflict Moderate Wounds

4 Charge Powers

Animate Dead
Bestow Curse
Inflict Serious Wounds

6 Charge Powers

Enervation
Inflict Critical Wounds
Unholy Blight

8 Charge Powers

dispel good
inflict light wounds, mass
slay living

It casts these spells as a 15th level caster.

You can also spend 10 charges to summon a greater shadow. It can also create unholy water.

Terevalis, not a good thing to stand next to Athola as she is swiping around her with the shard randomly. You being evil you have greater chance being struck and taking greater damage.

As for the True Disir he double moves to put himself in combat with Terevalis and Athola.

Round 8

The Disir High Priest touches himself and heals 3d8 + 7 ⇒ (5, 7, 4) + 7 = 23 damage. He then moves behind the massive Disir Hybrid for cover.

The Disir Hybrid will try and maintain the grapple.

Just realized it should have a higher grapple. Being a large sized creature it gets some bonuses and his grapple modifier should have been higher. I also learned that Power Attack does apply to Grapple damage so Gabriel should have taken an additional 4 damage.

Grapple Check: 1d20 + 23 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 23 - 2 = 32

It definitely succeeds. Its not going to swallow Gabriel though. It is going to chew on him though for 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (5, 5) + 10 = 20. He will also have to make a poison save.

As for his main action he's going to puke out a steam of acid hitting Gabriel, Althea and Jor.

This does 6d8 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 5, 1, 4) = 24 acid damage. Save DC 20 reflex 1/2 damage.

HP: 78/78, Arrows: 3, Arrows silver:5, Arrows cold steel 5, Heroic Surge: 2/3

Seems party kill is on approaching fast....

Athola you worry too much :) GM large size in pathfinder is only a +1 bonus not +4 like in 3.5, he maintains regardless just pointing out.

Round 8 Should be last round

Damage: 1d8 + 19 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 19 + (3, 2) = 30

Almost forgot poison save again: I'm off to Tampa for the weekend. You guys wrap this up ;) Remember if Gabriel takes 24 or more points of damage next round as an immediate action Hero's Defiance will cast and heal him for 6d6+12

Poison Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

25 Will not hit (It has a buttload of natural AC) but 31 and 35 will. It still is not dead though as its a 16 HD monster (13 base HD for its age category and 3 additional HD for class levels).

Gabriel cuts more into the creature striking with 2 solid blows opening up more wounds on the creature although likewise causing globs of acidic fluid to fall on him inflicting 4d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 2) = 10 Acid damage. The creature is horribly injured by the assault but still is alive and determined to crunch down on Gabriel before it dies.

Round 8

Athola hearing the noise of battle still taking place, unable to see she simply swings jabs the shard to her sides and in front of her.

She does not have blind fighting combat, so not sure how you want to handle the situation.

I think the disir in front of Terevalis is untouched.

The acid pouring all over but somehow by miracle, Jor is not harmed by it, as he just spins around on his spot and babbles about rainbows and rain

The way blind fighting works is that you can use perception to know where something is and attack the Square they're in through your other senses. Problem is you have a 50% miss chance, they get a concealment bonus to AC and you can't sneak attack. You also have to move at 1/2 speed or be forced to make an acrobatics check or trip.

The normal Disir is untouched at the moment.

Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Shard attack: 1d20 + 6 - 1 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 1 + 4 = 21 Probably same result
