Ok let me see, got a cold weather outfit, furs, a poncho, snowshoes and skis with two pickle extractors as spicked poles. That should be sufficient. Also got a winter blanket and bedroll. Perhaps we should organize a larger tent? I´m afraid though i couldn´t carry that. Ah i´m getting all excited, finally something new and hopefully thrilling. I already feared falling to the bleaching here.
Herolab doesn´t show the ski´s actually, only the snowshoes, but with skis its full movement on snow and ice. Cold weather outfit and furs are different boni and stack to a +7 together against cold weather.
Herolab does show it under clothing, must have Ultimate Equip. add-on

Got UE, but what i mean is in contrast to snow shoes it doesn´t show it as special ability and list the right speed. With skis you can just move your full speed on ice and snow. With snow shoes the movement cost is lowered from 2 to 1,5, what means i could move 3 fields instead of only 2 (with skis its 4).

I am stuck out on the road today, so I won't be able to adjust my char sheet until tomorrow.
Sorin hails Jostrum as he works his way through the market.
"Hey...Jostrum, right? I haven't been up north before, so I don't have a good idea what I am going to need. You got any tips?" Sorin asks, pointing at the pile of furs and thick clothes that Jostrum is carrying.
Jostrum Finderwell
|
Jostrum turns at his name."Yes it is Jostrum,...Sorin correct? Well I am stocking cold weather clothes, furs to go on top of that. A poncho to help to keep the snow from getting my clothes wet, and snowshoes to help walk across deep snow. Some people use long thin boards called skis though I am not knowing how to use them. Also a heatstone is nice but costs a lot of gold. I haven't decided on anything else, perhaps a waterproof sack for items that could be damaged by damp."

Later in the evening while packing your things, you are summoned via another letter to the harbor to set sail on a boat to lead you to Irrisen. It leaves in just a few hours. The letter and its Pathfinder seal allows you free passage and reign while onboard the boat. After a couple of weeks, you enter into the mouth of the Rineflow River and then deep into the Lands of the Linnorm Kings and then later into Irrisen.
Once in Irrisen you are offered a ride along with a team of dogs into the middle of the wilderness. After traveling for half the day you see a camp in the distance. Your dog-team drivers bid you farewell saying their mission is now complete. Crossing through the copse of trees into the open snow covered fields you see a group of humans, along with a handful of what looks like goblin captives.
Upon seeing you, one of the humans approaches you with her hand extended, “Sverrir Lightfoot here. Glad to finally see some friendly faces. Well, here are your goblins. I hope your travel is swift and free of any problems. I see that you don’t have horses... that is good. Very good. Anyway, here is a map to help you get to Harvest’s Ends. Its the closest thing to a town around here, but its likely to be the easiest way to cross the Rineflow River and meet up with the extraction team on the other side.
Speaking of which, they are waiting for you in three and one-half days. Here is enough rations to get you that far.
As you can see, we are already packing up to move back into the mountains.”
She hands you a map which shows a clear trail. It details some places to camp at night as well as Harvest’s Ends and the final extraction point. Sitting at her feet in the snow is a bag apparently full of rations.
While you are talking with Sverrir, a group of chained, weaponless, and armorless goblins are lead to you. While not covered in furs they appear comfortable in the ankle deep snow.
Sverrir reaches out with her hand, dangling keys in front of the party. “Well, they are yours now.”
Slypher Xen
|
how many goblins? what is their movement speed while chained?
Slypher takes the keys in hand, looks at them for a bit while pondering, then marches straight up to Sorin.
"Here." he says, shoving them into the big man's chest. "Keep these safe."
Jostrum Finderwell

"Well met Sverrir. Many thanks for the rations and map.. How are the goblin's temperment, any trouble makers? Have you seen anyone or anything that could cause us trouble on the area? Do you think we should expect any trouble?
Osric Sarus

[work issues ... Osric will pick up some good cold weather gear, snowshoes and warm clothes]
Osric will do his best to check out the goblins, making sure they are reasonably healthy for a journey, disease free if possible, and etc.

Yes thank you Sverrir Lightfoot. How did everything go so far? Did you have trouble with the goblins? I bet you are glad to get rid of them, or did you grow fond of them? Pai Song tries to oblige Sverrir, so she might tell some more information. Diplomacy 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
To the others she says:Give me a moment here, i talk their language and will communicate with them in a moment, so they can be some nice goblins for us and understand that they will be best and savest if they just follow our commands

Jostrum looks up and examines the goblins and then looks into the sky, apparently trying to gauge the weather.
DrGabe

There are 6 Goblins, one for each PC.
Sverrir tells you that they do indeed speak Common and very well. Be careful for the one named Biter. Its clearly a name earned.
The map is very clear. There is a road/path you follow until you get to hamlet, Harvest's Ends. From there you cross the river to the extraction point. Listed are places you can likely camp- caves mostly.
"To be honest, yes I am glad to be rid of the little blighters. But the Society knows what it is up too, I guess. Its not for me to question authority. Well, we best be off. Good luck. Stick to the map and you will be fine. A quick escort and then you'll be back in your warm houses."
The Goblins appear to be well feed and disease free. Its easy to pick out the one named Biter. He is chewing on the toe of another Goblin.
Jostrum determines it is cold, and is likely to stay that way for some time!
Sorin vos Naran

Sorin eyed the ring of keys that Slypher had shoved at him for a moment before shruging and tucking the ring into his furs.
"Fine by me. Hey, actually, I know an old trick, if you have some string or rawhide, I can make a necklace out of the ring, that way a pickpocket will have some work to get it off of me."
"Hey Biter, and all you little fleas. You see this blade?" Sorin asks menacingly, pointing at the greatsword that he is holding aloft. "The first one of you that runs, we are going to track you down and I am going to saw you in half, slow. Then, because the rest of you let him escape, I am going to run the rest of you through, one by one, until I have a goblin spit."
"So keep together, don't bite, and you might end up with something shiny at the end of our walk."
DrGabe
|
The goblins look at Sorin, pure fear in their faces. One begins to quiver and then lets out a long, loud, noxious fart. The fear suddenly gone, the other goblins start to whale and moan about the smell. Biter suddenly launches at another goblin and tries to start chewing on his ear. The instigator, apparently named Nox, just stands there with a dumbfounded look in his eyes.
Across the clearing, the other Pathfinders hear the commotion. They hasten their efforts to clean camp and move along!
Jostrum Finderwell

Jostrum shakes his head slowly, then takes his longbow, nocks an arrow, draws it back, and aims at Biter. He turns to Sorin and Pai."Perhaps you should talk to the filthy things, I would rather kill them all." He fixes Biter with a unflinching, steely gaze.
Pai Song

Pai walks towards the Goblin named Biter, stamps her feet, points her finger at him and shouts something in goblin.
Sorin vos Naran
|
"You know...if they are walking, they won't have time to be annoying. How about we get them marching?"
"All right you buckets of slime! March!" Sorin says, pointing down the trail.
Pai Song

We don´t want that Biter to kill another one. Also this bites could be infectious and then one get s sick or something and becomes a burden. I think if he doesn´t stop that we should put him on a leash and you hold it, Sorin. Or we could gag him with something.
Slypher Xen
|
"Alright, you--" Slypher points at Jostrum "take the map and take point. Try not to get us lost. You--" he points at Sorin "stay up front with him."
Slypher pauses, looking around.
"Alright, you and you--" he indicates Alonzo and Pai "Take either side of the line, and try not to get too close. The cleric and I will bring up the rear to make sure these *things* don't get too slow."
He pulls his furs tight around his face and readies his staff as he takes his position. "Now let's make this fast, quiet, and as painless as possible."
Pai Song
|
Now, now, seems someone got himself the commando. You got a point, but you could be friendlier, my fellow Quadiran. Also i think unnecessary violence is obsolet. Except this Biter they all seem willing to cooperate.
Pai Song switches her skis on and goes into position, ready to start.
Jostrum Finderwell

Jostrum turns to Slypher at the sound of his voice, his arrow moving with him to seemingly point at the Magus. He stares without expression for a long couple of moments, then turns away, slings his bow onto his shoulder, puts the arrow back in it's quiver and takes out the map. He begins to study it while walking over to Alonzo. He draws Alonzo off to the side out of the others hearing and appears to converse with him.
He then stalks back to the path/road and begins to arrange his pack and put on his snowshoes.
GM, do we need these? Is the path snow covered?
DrGabe
|
The Goblins stare at Jostrum, their eyes devoid of fear. Its clear this isn't the first arrow notched at thier heads. However, they settle down at the half-elven request.
The Goblins seems to be taken with Pai, following her commands and generally not causing problems.
As you move to the west, following the map the weather starts to turn cold and icy. Fort tests for everyone (vs cold).
After a couple of hours marching, the Goblins start to complaign of beeing hungry and demand food.
DrGabe

Yes the rations for the Goblins and the PC's were in the bag. You certainly may add bonuses from your winter gear and the survival skill to the roll. Target DC is 15. For now, travel speed isn't all that relavent since essentially you are on a "PFS-rail." When we get into combat (yeh, like that will happen!) I'll announce if there are any penalties.
Well done Osric, you'll be a pro at this in no time at all!

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Maximum speed is 40 feet per round, because im the slowest i guess and that´s my double-move^^. Also late due to Server downtime here.
Jostrum what´s the plan? Do we make some breaks, like for supper? I think we should feed them at least a bit during they day and of course in the evening and mornings. Thank you for your kind offer Osric, but at the moment i´m fine for my part and if it doesn´t get any colder it should stay like this.

Jostrum nods at the gnome and stops. Perhaps you are correct, if I'm not mistaken it will be evening soon. If everyone agrees we should find a good camping place and set up camp. We will have to set watches.
DrGabe
|
Still need Fort from Alonzo, everyone else is good by my reckoning.
The sun starts to set and the winds start to pick up even more. As you consult the map, you see that you should come up on a mountain pass with two watch towers. It is marked as a suitable camping site.
Just as the map says, you come across the pass and see two ancient stone towers on either side of the path, adjacent to two vertical bluffs.
The towers are 50' tall and the path which had been wide, now narrows to only 20' wide.
Perception check.
Pai Song

What are those towers? Is there anybody there? Something written about it on the map? We do camp here? Inside the towers? We should really explore them! How exciting!
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9
DrGabe
|
You were lead to believe (according to the map) that the towers were empty and a good camping site. However, you see that the snow has been knocked off the ramparts (facing your direction). You get the idea that the towers are not as empty as you were lead to believe.
The Goblins start to whine and cry about being hungry (again!), cold, and tired.
Slypher Xen
|
"Something isn't right here, but I don't think we have a choice." Slypher tries to be heard by the group ahead over the cutting wind.
"I'm about to freeze my arcane focus off!"
Pai Song
|
Of course there should be someone there! Why should such towers stand around empty? Someone must have build them and use them. Or they have been abandoned, then probably someone else uses them. The question is who or what that is and if they are friendly.
She pauses, looks at Slypher and giggles gnomishly.
And Slypher, if you feel so cold, perhaps you should get warmer thoughts and warm up your heart haha. Maybe then other people would be willing to give you some warmth too hihihi.
Another pause filled with gnomish giggling. Then to everyone, suddenly very serious again:
So how do we approach these towers?
To the goblins she says:
You will get something to eat soon, don´t worry. We just need to make sure these towers are safe. You don´t want to get eaten yourselves by big monsters, do you?

"Hey Slypher, what do you think, send forward a couple folks all friendly like to check the towers and see if there is anything nasty, while one or two of us stay back here and defend the gobs against any critters.", Sorin suggests as he pushes back the hood of his coat and peers around at the trees surrounding the trail.
"If whomever is in the towers isn't friendly, they might be looking to ambush us, though...but its a risk we should probably take."
