The path curves to the left, and then to the right. It's slow going. The dusty air makes you want to sneeze.

To one side of the path grows a huge toadstool. A cluster of shiny red globes bulges from the edge of its cap; it's impossible to say whether this is some strange fruiting body, or another fungus that is parasitizing the first one.

Bref only:

You know what the shiny red globes do. Eating one will speed up your nervous system for a while -- in game terms, you'll get +4 Dex and +4 Int for 1d6 hours, then you'll be exhausted. However, if you want to reach them without disturbing the mycelia, you'll need a Reflex save.

Yep, his intelligence is now 20, his wisdom is 2 and his charisma is -5.

Bref suddenly leaps up and grabs several of the shiny red globules. He's so nimble that he seems to be able to avoid the mycelial threads.

"Goblin get smarter!" Bref is about to gobble down the red spheroids. If you want to stop him, you can roll Init against him. Otherwise, you can let him eat them and see what happens.

Dren only:

Dren, you know what those red spheroids do. They contain a powerful drug that gives a temporary expansion to consciousness. In game terms, you'll get +4 Wis and +4 Cha for 1d6 hours, after which you'll be Confused for 2d6 rounds.

There are some left on the mushroom cap, but to reach them you'll have to reach through the web of mycelial threads -- Reflex save. Bref has grabbed enough off the mushroom to give a dose to both of you, but it's quite clear he intends to gobble them all down. So if you want one, your options are (1) roll the Reflex save, (2) ask Bref to share, or (3) try to beat him on Init and grab one away from him before he eats them all.

wouldnt they have to move out there with bref to stop him?

DM:
Bref is only going to eat one right now and save the other

Bref, you're second in line -- Morsum is just ahead of you, Jax behind. They can interact with you easily. The other three party members will have to lunge forward, which might require a Reflex save as well.

GM:

I thought of one more option...what I proposed above, let me know if you want a diplomacy roll but usually PC's just RP this kind of stuff out. This seems more like what Dren would do, try to manipulate someone much more dextrous to get the red caps for him...

Well, that leaves Sir Edmin, Judge/Morsum, and Zimu. If one of you wants to intervene, go for it. Otherwise, Bref will chow down.

Male Vampire(former Dhampir) Bard(Negotiator) 13/Anti-Paladin/2 - [HP 209/231; AC43,FF36,T22; CMD32; DR/10 magic+silver; F+28,R+29,W+26; Per+31; Init +12]

Morsum is in the front and the Judge is in the back. Neither of us will intervene. There was a clear instruction on the entry to this room and Bref has ignored it. At present doing anything would cause yet more of us to deviate from the path we were specifically direct to stay on.

Hearing that Bref has ignored the instructions, the Judge simply growls.

Whisper(Message) & to Morsum: Continue forward, ignore the goblin. He shall be dealt with once we have concluded this test.

Morsum resumes his slow crawl forward expecting the others to follow the Judge's instructions and to continue to follow the path.

Goblin get for Shadow Shanks.

Bref gobbles his down then brings one back for Dren. If he is able he will grab another one for whomever else might want.

Note I am fine with people rolling Dip and Int for Bref. For example that is why he stopped and let Judge and Zimu attempt to spellcraft the amulet after Judge made diplo. Being a megalomaniac Bref does not take well to threats on the best of days. Like he told Judge you catch more goblins with shiny than scary. That said I know that PvP is allowed, but I am pretty much against serious PvP, I will not kill another player while they are on my side still

Oh man you are one lucky goblin. That was only a DC 10 Fort save, but it was save or die, repeat, die.

What's going on:

You remember I mentioned that the air in here is very dusty? That's not dust. The big mushroom releases spores that are magical and mildly psychoactive. Basically it's something like a weak Suggestion spell -- DC 10 Fort, or believe that the red fruiting bodies are something wonderful. The magic isn't strong enough to force you to eat them -- it just convinces you that they're something very desirable. (But, let's face it, Mr. Poor Impulse Control is pretty much the ideal target.) I rolled saves for everyone, and Bref and Dren both failed; Bref was ahead in marching order, so he got to act first.

If you eat the fruiting bodies, they attempt to colonize you. Fail a DC 10 Fort save, and they succeed. You take d6 of Con damage per round until you die. (A Cure Disease or DC 28 Heal check can stop the damage, but neither of those would be on the table in this case.)

Wow. Okay. -- Well, the goblin is bent double and retching -- he's going to be nauseated for a while. Bref, you can't use Stealth right now, or do anything but move slowly down the path.

Nauseated:

Creatures with the nauseated condition experience stomach distress. Nauseated creatures are unable to attack, cast spells, concentrate on spells, or do anything else requiring attention. The only action such a character can take is a single move action per turn.

What are the rest of you doing?

Bref does not move until he stops vomiting. He may not be wise but he is smart enough to know that he needs to be in control before moving again.

Instead he clamps his hands over his mouth to muffle the sound.

Bref will be nauseated for 1d6 ⇒ 3 rounds. During this time, the party may simply move past him. (You'll have to move carefully to squeeze past him down the narrow clear passage, but it won't actually require a Reflex save.) Since you're stealthing along at half speed, this will leave him just 25' behind the rearmost party member.

We wait for the goblin to recover from whatever poisonous mushroom he just ate. Then proceed forward. I will not have any of us getting knocked into this forest of fungi trying to pass him.

Okay then -- along the path you go. (The mycelial webbing is still overhead.) Another couple of twists and turns and... there's something glittering ahead, by the side of the path.

A skeleton in rusted chainmail; it looks like there was some sort of coat of arms on the front, but everything is so overgrown with mold and bizarre fungal growths that it's impossible to make out what it was. (It doesn't look like this particular skeleton is getting up and going anywhere; thick rootlike tendrils grow out of the fungus forest and through the thing's rib cage, joining together into a knotted purplish mass that sits roughly where its heart once was.)

Beside one bony hand, a weapon has fallen to the floor, where it lies on a carpet of mold. It's a light mace, and a lovely one too -- clearly the work of a craftsman. A dark red jewel gleams from its handle.

Having Morsum relay that he saw the skeleton, the Judge responds.

Leave the mace and the skeleton. That is probably part of the second knot or fourth knot. A part that decided to not follow the instructions and wandered off through the fungi. You can see that it did not turn out well. Anyone that leaves the path, we shall leave to be the skeleton found by the tenth knot.

Continue forward, no deviations unless instructed to do so.

Actually, it is a light mace. I could lift it and move it to me using Mage Hand.

Agreed, I was thinking that too, but that may still disturb the mold. Remember what was written on the door. Could we make a knowledge or survival roll to see if that would be enough to trigger the mold?

Also, that whole scene just drips of a save or you go bye bye effect.
