Jax Naismith |
Next round: Note; Jax isn't giving up his turn for the round, he will delay until the helmet goes. If the thing looks like it will attack on his turn, he'll move forward and attack
Do what you want with him. As for this thing...
The tiefling's lips curl into a smile and he looks up at the helmet. Choices, automaton. Join your master in death and disaster or let me study you in pleasant and painless ways.
Knowledge: Arcana, dungeoneering or spellcraft on what it is? 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
If the helmet attacks
Jax shrugs and dashes forward, swinging his blade. I'm terribly sorry to hear that. Perhaps we can carry on this conversation after you've had some time to think on it.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 (+3 if it counts as metal) 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 and 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 electricity damage.
Oh god I hope it wants to fight! Third crit in the last few fights!
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 to confirm. 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 weapon and 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 lightnign damage (Did I mention spells crit with spellstrike? :D)

1d4 ⇒ 2
Suddenly the helmet lifts off of Sir Balin's head and rises into the air.
"You... You MONSTERS! You have killed brave Sir Balin! Well, no matter! His noble soul will rest with Mitra! And I will see you brought to justice for this crime!"
The helmet suddenly takes off like a rocket for the open door.
Douglas Muir 406 |
As the helmet flies past Jax, the tiefling strikes with his blade. The magical charge he's been saving is released! For a moment, a crackling corona of bright blue sparks surrounds the helmet. It stops in midair and spasms and dances crazily.
"eeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEE -- "
BANG!
There is a strong smell of ozone. Spots dance before your eyes. Bits of blackened, charred metal fly past your face and tinkle off the walls. There's nothing left of Scudo the helmet but a twisted, half-melted piece of unrecognizable scrap that hangs in the air and then falls to the ground -- clang.
Dren of the Dark Tapestry |
That was...satisfying! as the helmut crashes to the ground. Dren walks over to Bref,
Well I am afraid our little Goblin scout didn't make it, he appears to have lost his mind...I am at home in the darkness, but I lack his affinity for finding dangerous traps. I supposed we can discuss it after we return the pendant to the Cardinal. Anything else before we go see the him, perhaps confirming it is indeed the pendant we are looking for?
Zimu, since you seemed very intent on grabbing it after the battle, you can ensure it is the one we seek? Bref won't be needing these any longer...
Dren begins to strip several items from Bref, He owes me a small sum of gold...
Jax Naismith |
While no where near as skilled as our little friend, perhaps Asmodeus forsaw this when he granted me visions and memories of the life of a thief from Irin's cards. Let us take him back upstairs for, at the very least, a proper burial. I'm not sure if the mad runt would want to be given to Zargo or buried for eternity.
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
The Judge looks down at the fallen goblin, then to the twisted heap that was the helmet, and finally to the fallen Sir Balin.
He then looks over to Cy.
Lets determine whether that amulet is harmful. I doubt it is as that is not the way of the followers of that pitiful sun god.
The Judge casts Detect Magic to determine whether there is anything of note regarding the amulet or Sir Balin's equipment.
The Judge then looks over at Edmin.
I do not know much of armor, but the armor worn by the former witch hunter does appear quite strong. I imagine that we can remove the taint of Mitra - he says this name with a spit of disgust - from that armor. Same with his sword and shield if they are better than that which you have used to this time.
The Judge then looks to Bref on the ground.
Goblins eat their own. The Cardinal can decide what ceremony, if any, is fitting for one of his servants. I imagine that the goblin would be pleased if he knew that his form was able to continue to terrorize the population of this backward nation. Even if that terror was as a creation of Zargo.
Once the equipment has been scanned for magic and removed from Sir Balin's headless corpse, the Judge reaches down and takes the key from Bref who, I believe, had grabbed it before running into the room.
I do believe it is time to finish this test and return to the Cardinal. I do not plan on receiving the same welcome as last time. So, I expect the decorum which the Cardinal demands, not the chaotic actions of Toothpick which caused Sir Edmin to receive the Cardinal's wrath last time.
The Judge then goes to the prison door, casts Detect Magic to determine whether any magic protects it. And then reaches through to unlock the door, using Mage Hand if necessary to manipulate the key from outside the door.
Cуровую зиму |
'He may be of use to us alive, let us just make sure he is not capable of reviving himself. And I can masquerade as his squire later on to get information from him. OR (and I really like this idea) keep him alive for later use, once the spell casters have mastered the higher Arts, we could Dominate this one for our ends.'
'This battle is won, there are others still ahead, I say we keep him alive, waste not, want not.'
Cуровую did mention it may be worth keeping him alive, before the beheading gets underway.
Dren of the Dark Tapestry |
Dominate and such powers are fairly unreliable. Keeping him alive could be dangerous but as much as I would prefer knowing he is dead as Zimu mentions there are other uses for him.
Jax Naismith |
Jax kicks the burnt helmet, then reaches down and picks it up. I still want to know what this was. Sorry for breaking the toy, Cimu.
Bref |
Essence of evil creature now trapped in Chef hat!!!!! If we all say it enough DMDM has to let it happen!
Edmin Al'Roth |
Edmin nods his head at the judge and begins to remove the fallen knights armor. "Much better suited than this chain I wear now. I also relish the irony of using the witch hunters equipment to send more of his brethren to Asmodeous."
The Knight looks down at the dead goblin and shakes his head. "He was a rash and unpredictable creature, but he was our companion. I will carry his body and insure he receives a befitting ceremony."
Jax Naismith |
If what the Judge says is right, only befitting ceremony would be for you to eat him, Edmin. Have at it!
Well, let's see if there's anything else worth rooting around in this room for. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 search
Douglas Muir 406 |
Loot:
Masterwork longsword.
Masterwork plate mail.
Large steel shield.
Ivory-hilted dagger with the coat of arms of Kerfeld worked in enamel on it, a gift from the grateful citizens of that island to their beloved Sir Balin. Worth 120 gp, but anyone who can make an appropriate Knowledge [Nobility] check will be able to identify it.
Cloak of resistance +1. That lovely blue cloak he was wearing? The one that was oddly free of dirt and blood despite everything? Magic. It will resize itself to fit anyone who wears it. Note that it will still obviously be a valuable cloak, suitable for an aristocrat, and so perhaps a bit conspicuous.
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
Knowledge(nobility): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
alphabetically for the cloak - Edmin not included as he is getting the platemail and sword I assume.
CyDrenJaxTohram 1d4 ⇒ 2 <-- cloak goes to Dren unless someone thinks that the split would be better in some other manner.
We can fight over the loot all day long, but I think that just splitting it fairly evenly is best. At this point, I do not need much. I would like some equipment for Morsum, but that will come. Jax and Dren could use stuff as well. The cloak will help any of us, but I think keeping it with one of the more melee characters is fairer at this point. Were Cy level 5 or above and tossing big damage spells, then it might be different.
Bref |
I know that I am dead and all, but I am big into just assigning loot to who can use it best. Probably not very evil, but perhaps we meta game that a bit, so we dont degenerate into infighting over some magic boots or whatever later on.
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I have no problem with assigning - I just did that with the sword and shield since nobody else can get much use out of them. The Cloak +1 is your basic, "anyone can use it" item. Thus, I rolled. If Dren had already gotten a disproportionate share of the loot, I would have probably removed his name from the list just as I did with Edmin.
We can also always trade items. Yeh, we are evil, but I would really prefer not to have pvp fighting and b$*@%ing and moaning about equipment. I am in one campaign where two players were asked to leave because they refused to agree to any type of a equal loot split system. I hope we do not end up that way.
At this point, the Judge is the named leader, so I have no problem making decisions based on what I view as best for the party. If someone disagrees with what the Judge says or does, please do not hesitate to let me know IC, OOC or PM. The goal for all of us is to grow so that we can have a nice set of subservient slaves polishing our shoes and providing us with whatever services we wish. If we fight among ourselves and get killed, well, that will certainly decrease our ability to enjoy the luxuries and benefits of slave ownership.
Edmin Al'Roth |
I agree with you Judge, No one should be equipped to the gills when others need kit.
So you know, Edmin will have IC issues with you later, but they will be just that, IC. If anyone has issues with someone else please attempt to handle it or ask for clarification via PM. If it gets away from PM then please talk to DMDM. Please do not let it spill over into what happened in the begining of this adventure.
Edmin Al'Roth |
Also, IC Edmin will be wanting the young squire to fall under his protection, unless over ruled by the Big Boss. It is in his nature to take care of the young squire.
Jax Naismith |
I'm with Bref and Judge as well. I always see loot allocation as an OOC thing rather than an IC thing. Saves help everyone though, so its hard to allocate to who needs it best so rolling seems fairest (removing names from those who have gotten items/etc already like Judge did.)
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
I had forgotten that the squire was way back before the boulder chase and the nice lady of the dungeon. I would like to get him, but the objective of the test was to get the pendant. We should return to the Cardinal having finished and request that Edmin be assigned the young squire for future Asmodean squire training.
If the majority votes to get the squire first, we can do that, but since we only have a few minutes left of out 3 hours, I think finishing the test first is a wiser choice. Then we can go back, or have a servant go back, and get the young lad.
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
We carry it with a mage hand. If it is non-magical, it is probably safe. However, no reason to take any chances. Mage Hand can be continued for as long as one concentrates. We might as well just Mage Hand it back to the Cardinal's office.
Edmin Al'Roth |
Edmin picks up Sir Balin's head by the lower jaw and carries it upside down as he waits on the others.
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
The Judge heads up using Mage Hand to carry the amulet before him. When he reaches the Cardinal's office, he waits for the other's to catch up, and then walks in with the amulet magically carried before him.
Once within, the Judge bows his head before beginning.
My Lord. As you have requested, we have returned with the witch hunter's amulet.
The Judge nods at the amulet waiting suspended before him.
The former witch hunter did not seem to wish to give us his amulet, so we removed his head from his body to acquire it.
Edmin Al'Roth |
Edmin lowers Bref's body to the floor then moves forward, placing Balin's head on the desk so it's lifeless eyes face the Cardinal. "The Dark Prince's will be done."
Cуровую зиму |
Forgive me Judge but I believe Cуровую made a claim to the amulet. It was the first and ONLY thing she did while everyone was divying up the spoils. While you can still do the monologue, I would very much like to present it to the cardinal. Teacher's pet and all that.
Is that peachy?
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
Cy -- The Cardinal named the Judge as the leader of the team. I understand your reasoning, but in this case as the main purpose of the test was getting the amulet, and as Edmin discovered, since failure by one of the party results in the leader getting the punishment, the Judge would have requested that he be the one to announce that the test was completed.
Cy is welcome to use her Mage Hand to carry the amulet. However, the Judge would demand to be the one to step into the Cardinal's room first and speak to the Cardinal as the chosen leader at this point.
Cуровую зиму |
That's quite fine by me, in fact that's how I pictured it and I think it's more dramatic that way anyways, having the Judge's frame block out the necklace and Cуровую.
So please, by all means, Age before Winter.
Cуровую зиму |
Waaait before we walk in..just to double check.. Appraise: 1d20+10
I was thinking they would not use the same trick twice, but
Appraise 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Knowledge Nobility/History 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Douglas Muir 406 |
The Cardinal is still sitting in the same place. It doesn't look like he's moved a bit since you saw him last. He holds out his hand and takes the pendant.
"Ah, yes." He lets the pendant dangle from its chain, turning and sparkling in the light. "This is the mark of those who destroyed our faith and sought to banish all trace of the worship of our Father from these shores. This, my children, is the mark of our enemies."
Suddenly he tosses the holy symbol back to the Judge. "Keep it. It may aid you in disguising yourself." A wintry smile touches his lips. "Well done, my Ninth Knot. You have passed your test."
Douglas Muir 406 |
The Cardinal leans back in his chair. "You will be tired. Be seated and rest for a few moments." He raises his hand and gestures in the air. "And hungry, thirsty, injured, dirty... we will attend to those. Let me ease your injuries first." Waves of healing energy radiate outward from the Cardinal's tall, lean frame. You feel your wounds closing, your bruises dwindling and disappearing.
Mass Cure Moderate Wounds! Everybody gain back 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 5) + 10 = 16 hp. (But note that it doesn't help with stat damage -- you'll have to gain that back normally, at 1 point / day.)
