Brookside GM
In an amf on a prone mage (bc the aoo happens while he is still prone), even Kelian hits.
Nelly
Nelly attempted to move past, and was stopped in her tracks by the failed acrobatics-check. Since she does not get shifted back, that means she effectively was squeezing in with Kelian and Mel. Large creatures have some specific rules on being partially affected by ground, but it likely does not apply here.
Nelly snaps again at the young mage as he stands up. This annoying obstacle needed to be gone.
When the whistle abruptly stops, Nelly falls into a frenzy - biting once more, then attempting again to reach her master!
If after AoO and the others actions the young mage still stands, Nelly bites him again. If not, she moves forward - if the dire lion blocks her movement and she has the attack left, she attacks it. If she manages to move past, she instead readies the attack against anybody touching Túrion. Basically try to reach her master, attack first still-living obstacle on the way or go into defense mode if she makes it.
Bite AoO: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 He is prone, Nelly is squeezed, effectively no alteration of roll.
Bite(Regular or Readied): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 -4 if still squeezed, relatively confident it should hit anyway)
Trip(Regular or Readied): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31
Acrobatics if needed: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Kazador The Clanless
Algric only gets first attack. Kazador gets an AOO
Hit: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
Damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Then draws his hammer and doesn’t get his iterative attack, doing 29 damage without the acid
Total damage to mage, Algric and Kazador: 17 + 15 + 29 = 61
Fyrtor Smithson
Heal Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
"Nooooo!" Fyrtor cries out with anguish as he sees Turion's charred body fall to the ground before him. Realizing that he is too late to do anything Fyrtor grabs the spine of his sword in his left hand and runs, headless of the threat the lion poses, into a position where he can retaliate.
free action to shift grip, +4 to AC vs AoO from mobility
"You bastard! Burn yourself!" Raising his hand Fyrtor speaks the incantation he wanted to before, then grabs sword's hilt ready to face what will likely be his death.
Casts Greater Flaming Sphere on the older mage. DC20 reflex to avoid 6d6 fire and being set aflame, shift grip again
Brookside GM
I'm going to go ahead and roll Brolin's aoo just so we can be clear on that.
Brolin AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 That's a miss, even if there are some modifiers I missed.
AoO: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Dam: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 1, 6, 2) = 19
The old mage barely dodges Fyrtor's fire! The lion swipes at Fyrtor but misses!
I think you can still parry and riposte that if you wish.
Kelian_Falchen
Still squeezed against the wall, Kelian reaches out and slugs the junior mage with his gauntleted fist again, twice.
Gauntlet 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Gauntlet 1 damage: 1d3 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Gauntlet 2: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
Gauntlet 2 damage: 1d3 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
I'm assuming Kelian has no space to get his sword out.
Mel Elden
Hearing a two cries of agony from the room ahead -- one from Túrion, the other from Fyrtor -- Mel thinks all right, time to be brave. Flexing her wrist, she pops a potion into her hand and downs it. I hope that works in this null magic zone, she thinks.
Swift action to get it out of the wrist sheathe, standard to drink it. Potion of Protection from Evil.
"Out of the way, Nelly," she says, gently pressing Nelly aside. Then slides past the mage.
Acrobatics DC = 5+mage's CMD: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
"Eep!" she says as she rounds Kazador to find a large, bloody lion in her path. She tries to dodge past it, but backs up as soon as it raises a paw and snarls.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
I'm assuming that that's a Dire Lion, which would make the Acrobatics DC either its CMD+2 (28) to move through its threatened area, or CMD+7 (33) to move through its space. Those DCs are 2 higher because it's the second opponent she's trying to dodge in a round. Either way, that's a failure. Her motion halts in Kazador's square, leaving both of them squeezing, and she provokes an AoO from the lion.
I was doing jack squat there in the corridor, but honestly I think all I've done here is make things worse.
Captain Brolin Muse
A word, a gesture, a feeble thrust easily countered, a moment of burning pain, and then behind him Turion falls dead to the ground.
For a shell shocked second of detachment, all he can think is who'll take care of Nelly? and what kind of hubris does it take to remember the painful deaths of a hundred fools who thought themselves immortal, and still not believe that you could fail up until you did?
And then Muse is back in reality, more firmly present than he's felt since they began this ill-fated adventure, keenly aware of every beat of his heart, every breath of smoke and air he forces through his ragged lungs. He screams. Bellows, roars something wordless and animal, eyes solid gold, form distorted by, wreathed in the memories and soulstuff of a century long life pitched senselessly into the Great Beyond with a word and a gesture, wreathed in the green memories of an ancient being deeply in tune with nature, phantasmal trees and clinging ivy spreading to the edges of the anti-magic zone and phantasmal animals racing from the medium in all directions as he, wreathed in the red and orange memories of the fire that killed Turion, raises his glass sword in two clenched fists. Screaming something wordless and human, screaming the first word ever spoken by something that stood on two legs, screaming out his rage and hate and his intent to cause pain, he strikes with it.
Channeling the champion as a free action, spending an influence point of Legendary Influence, full attacking with my terbutje (two handed), and then spending an influence point to boost my first attack and my Sudden Attack by 1d6 each. Allies within range gain +2 on damage rolls.
Primary: 1d20 + 10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 4 + (6) = 23 damage: 1d10 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Iterative: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 4 = 29 damage: 1d10 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Sudden Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 4 + (5) = 23 damage: 1d10 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
confirmation: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 4 = 28 damage: 1d10 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Brookside GM
Brolin swings hard three times and manages to land a significant blow upon the mage!
Hero point to Brolin for drawing the old guy's blood first and for great description. Will have to provide my update tonight. EDIT: 29 does confirm!
Mel Elden
Mel stares at Brolin in frank amazement. "Brolin!" she calls. "His strength lies in his magic. Get him into the null magic zone!"
I hope he understands, she thinks. He seems ... rather feral, at the moment.
Also note that Brolin's Seance Boon is a SU ability which does not function in the AMF.
Brookside GM
The junior elf is smashed to the ground and doesn't move again. The senior mage, however, floats upward five feet of the ground. Then he eyes Brolin in more severe annoyance and twitches the rod in his hand. Instantly, Brolin feels an overwhelming, freezing paralysis take over his brain! Then the mage incants a spell...
Brolin needs to make a DC 22 wisdom save against hold person. If he succeeds, then he can take an aoo. If he misses aoo, then:
The elder mage blinks out of sight, invisible!
Attacks at +14: 3d20 ⇒ (19, 10, 9) = 38
Grapple: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 20 = 26
Dam: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Dam: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
The lion lashes out with a claw at Brolin (33 to hit for 11 damage) then steps over to Fyrtor and bites him, grabbing a hold of the druid (15 damage and grappled) but misses with his second claw.
Everyone, GO!
Nelly
So Nelly was attempting to go past the Lion last round, probably stopped and squeezed.
Still in a fury, Nelly keeps biting anything she perceives as blocking her path...currently, the oversized cat was in that unfortunate position.
All the same, her goal was to reach her Master, and after a vicious bite, Nelly attempted to get past the summon once more.
Attack, Flanking, Squeezed: 1d20 + 12 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 12 + 2 - 4 = 30 Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Attack, Flanking, Squeezed Confirm?: 1d20 + 12 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 2 - 4 = 16 Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
So 18 damage last round, 17 this round, possibly 15 more - potentially 50 total vs the lion.
Brookside GM
Nelly finishes off the lion! She tears hard into its rear flank the creature snarls and disappears from view!
Nelly can take a move, too, to do something about all this squeezing.
Nelly
Nelly moves forward, with a probing howl at Túrion. Stubbing the body with her nose and not getting a reaction, she takes position over him, protecting his remains.
Kazador The Clanless
Kazador stepped into the room, and once more was driven out by the enchantments on his mind. With nothing that he could do, Kazador backed off to let the others in.
”Can’t bloody get in with his spell.” He said, in explanation.
Algric_Graniteson
”Then get out of the damn way.” Algric yelled as he ran in, and looked around wildly for any sign of the mage.
Bow in hand as part of the move action, standard for perception
Perception to find that mage, he will point out the right square once he sees him: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Brookside GM
Fyrtor can tell you his square as a free action. He's in the square where he's shown right now but 5 ft off the ground.
Algric_Graniteson
Ah, if that is the case Algric would shoot the square, getting a 30 to hit. I don’t think he can Grapple the mage if he is flying?
Damage If Grapple is not possible: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 75
Fyrtor Smithson
Fyrtor unsure of what to do next notices Algric's confusion. "The mage is right above the sphere! But Brolin's enchanted, if we can get him to the hallway on the far side he should be ok, magic isn't working on that side either."
Fyrtor Smithson
As he says the words Fyrtor realizes that showing what he means is better that trying to explain. First he directs the sphere to bounce up into the air where the mage disappeared. Then he focuses and with a raised hand he speaks the words of power hoping he can strike the mage.
Move action to direct the sphere. Casts mudball
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 2 - 4 - 4 = 11 Modifiers:+2 from studied, -4 from engaged in melee(maybe), -4 from soft cover
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 8
well, that part didn't go well
Captain Brolin Muse
Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Does a nine make?
Muse would grit his teeth if even that much motion was permitted him. Instead he focuses his attention inward, reaching out to all the memories trapped in the antimagic zone, shaping them into a spell.
Readies an action to cast haste on all allies he's got line of effect to before the group initiative ends. Giving people a chance to move if they want to.
Mel Elden
Oh yeah, that's right ... being paralyzed doesn't stop Brolin from casting, because psychic magic is weird.
"Here, Kazador," Mel says. She drops her bow and several arrows to the corridor just inside the null magic zone.
"Kelian, people are looking rough in there!" she calls. "We need you."
Then she turns and runs into the room towards the spot where Fyrtor flung his mud ball, yanking her short sword. I've never used one of these, she thinks.
She halts just shy of the burning orb of fire, clicks her heels together, feeling the familiar jolt of speed come over her. Ai, Ostara, how did I get here? she wonders wildly.
But then she stills her mind. By following my faith, she thinks. I never wanted this. I love peace. But this man is an enemy of peace ... and if I am called to war ... then so be it!
She lunges upwards, hands outstretched to seize hold of one of her own people's most powerful mages.
Move action to go into the room, pulling the short sword as she does so as to have a weapon in hand in case of AoO opportunities.
Free action to trigger the boots of haste, because she doesn't know Brolin's about to do that. Those boots are dope, by the way.
And a standard action to try to grab the invisible mage, presumably by his ankles or knees.
CMB to grapple, provokes AoO if he's armed: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Miss chance, 51+ hits: 1d100 ⇒ 76
This seems like an opportune moment to remind the GM that it's currently a DC 23 Perception check to see through Mel's mundane disguise to appear human.
Kelian_Falchen
Kelian moves into the room, clapping Kazador on the shoulder as he passes. Once inside, he reaches -- and a faint breeze stirs the room, soothing hurts on all present.
Channel Positive Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
That also affects the mage, more's the pity. Also everyone within 10 feet of him gets a +4 bonus on saves versus fear effects, in case that's relevant. Minus Kazador, it doesn't work in the AMF.
Brookside GM
Algric (Kazador), you need to make a separate roll for a separate action. I let people keep the same roll when it is essentially the same action. But perception and an attack roll are pretty different...
Algric's attack at +12: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 Even better! XD
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 72
Algric launches a fantastic shot at the mage's likely location and you hear it hit home!
Fyrtor's mudball hits the wall with little effect.
Ooh that's right. Brolin can cast without verbal components! Well I would say that being paralyzed is somewhat distracting, as Brolin was mentioning that can be an important part of a conc check. So conc check from Brolin for that haste but very good. I love it.
The fire doesn't seem to be burning anything in particular but who would be able to tell anyway?
Whoa Mel! You guys are doing pretty well for yourselves here! This is awesome!
Mel feels like she has a hold on an arm or leg or something! And it doesn't seem happy at all! She hears a voice curse in a low voice
"You'll pay for that, kin-traitor!"
Kazador, care to take a pot shot before Baddy McMage takes another turn?
Reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Perc: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31
Kazador The Clanless
Pot Shot! With likely penalty? Assuming he will need a 20 to hit: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 11 - 4 = 22
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 2
As Mel ran in, Kazador took a shot at the mage. Or at least where the mage seemed to be. He had fired a bow before...but it was a far cry from where his true talents lay. Still, at least he was doing *something*, which was better than standing and watching while his comrades fought and died.
Captain Brolin Muse
Now that Kelian and Mel are within range, Muse takes moment to find his center and cast his spell.
concentration: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Brookside GM
Brolin manages to haste everyone except Kazador.
Conc: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (19) + 21 = 40
Grapple: 1d20 + 11 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 11 + 4 + 1 = 33
Dam: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 - 20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 15 - 20 + 20 = 23
Mel feels her grasp empty all of a sudden. Then you hear some words spoken on the southern side of the open area but you aren't sure where.
Reactive perception check as free action to know where. Can make an active perception check as a move action if you want to try again.
The sound is coming from the furthest southwest portion of the zone where magic works, 10 ft off the ground right up against the ceiling.
Suddenly, a familiar sight greets you. Writhing, rubbery, black tentacles burst up from the ground filling the entire area where magic can work. It grasps everyone on the ground and squeezes hard! Even if you weren't bound by the tentacles, it would be difficult to move through this terrain.
6 damage and 33 to grapple everyone. You need to make a DC 25 cmb or escape artist if you want to break out. Muse, you get to repeat the will save as a full-round action if you like. Party, GO!
Fyrtor Smithson
Perception Free Action: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
CMB to Escape: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Perception as a Move: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Fighting against the tenticles Fyrtor struggles to locate the mage. After what seems like an eon, though it's only a few tramatic seconds, he catches a slight bending of the light for a moment. Pointing as best he can while wrestling with the writhing arms he calls out, "There! He's in that corner... near the ceiling"
I think that's all my actions
Captain Brolin Muse
It's like being buried alive. That's not hyperbole or metaphor, having the breath crushed out of him by these tentacles is exactly like being buried alive. Something squirming and wet wraps itself around the eyes he was unable to close, and then he's blind. The tendril pulls, and he feels his head move with it, neck shrieking out silent protest.
He needs to put it all out of his mind. Focus on his breathing. Being paralyzed with magic is strange, because normally you're either unaware of your breathing in and out, or you're in full control of it. When held your breathing is automatic, and you're keenly aware of it. It's deeply unpleasent. The challenge, he knows, Legacy tells him, and he'd tell Legacy he knows if he could move his tongue and lips to mouth the words, the challenge is taking back control of your breathing.
will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Taking back your lungs, that's the hard part. After that, arms and legs come easy. You just can't let anything distract you. His enforced measured breathing is distracting him. The tentacle against his open eyes is distracting him. He tries to ignore both.
Casting burst of insight as an immediate action to add +8 to that roll.
concentration: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Muse makes a fist. Clenches it, unclenches it. Wriggles his head free of the grasping tentacles and wipes his eyes with it. Breathes heavily, now that he can. It feels like he can't get enough air into his lungs, feels like he's being crushed inside his mithril armor, but he can't muster the energy to fight against the tentacles. Dazed for one round, due to burst of insight. Being paralyzed forced Muse to clear his mind and meditate, focus. But being crushed by conjured tentacles, righteous hate and malice come right back to him, and losing himself to the antipathetic flood seems more attractive an option than introspection of any sort.
He roars.
Mel Elden
Mel spins, her sword slicing through the tentacles before they can grasp her. The severed stumps writhe and bulge with fresh growth even before the original tips hit the ground, but by then Mel has moved on, picking her way between Brolin and Nelly. Several thrashing tentacles whip her painfully as she goes.
Reaching the comparative safety of the further null magic zone, she sets her sword down and pulls her spare bow. She scans the room. "Up there!" she points at the mage's location.
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (10) + 18 = 28
CMB: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Standard action to break the grapple - the sword spinning thing is just for flavor, she was in fact grappled at the start of her turn. Even moving at half speed she's got plenty of range to get to the AMF, and can pull her spare bow as part of that, then drop the sword in the hallway. I'm just dropping weapons all over the place today.
Kelian_Falchen
Kelian cannot reach the mage; nor can he do anything about the tentacles. And so he ignores them. Once again a faint breeze rustles through the room, healing the hurts of all present.
Channeling positive energy is new to Kelian; I doubt he knows he's also healing the mage. And anyway, keeping everyone else on their feet seems rather important.
Channel Positive Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
7 healing for everyone in range, excluding Kazador and Mel.
As the breeze fades, he raises his head and peers intently at the corner Mel and Fyrtor have indicated.
Move action to Detect Evil. Paladins can do that as a move action, apparently. I'm not sure how/if that interacts with invisibility. If the mage registers as evil (meaning he has an evil alignment and at least 4 hit dice), Kelian will narrow his gaze and spend a swift action to activate Smite Evil.
Nelly
Break Free: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Nelly shrugs off the tentacles, snarling and biting at them, then lifting her nose and staring in the same direction Fyrtor is pointing.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Ready action: to track the Mage by smell if he moves. Scent allows to know the exact direction - being in the air saves him from her as High Jumps are really difficult - scent would pinpoint him within 5 feet and Nelly has Blindfight. But at least she should be able to help track his location if he keeps shifting.
(Well, being in the air and that she's guarding her Masters Remains, she's reluctant to move, but since the Tentacles affect her, too...
Brookside GM
Kelian detects some evil but doesn't know its location.
He determines the specific location on the third round, yes? I could be cheeky and say this mage isn't evil, just following orders. But let's keep things simple. The evil mage wants to complete his mission alive kill everyone.
Algric_Graniteson
CMB: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Having broken free, Algric fired off another shot.
Hit: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
It turned out that shooting at an invisible enemy while being assaulted with magic was...difficult.
Lawful Evil probably
Brookside GM
It's a standard action to break free but that misses anyhow so no worries. Any action from Kazador?
Kazador The Clanless
Was holding off to see if anything else might happen, but I suppose no point
”Elf! Yer friend lies dead. Ye’re magic will run out before our numbers. If ye surrender now, ye have my word that I’ll nay kill ye for yer crimes, but will take ye prisoner instead. Refuse?”
Hit: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 99
He fired a shot at where the elf was supposed to be. He wanted the elf dead. But was it worth losing more comrades over? No. The sight of Turion’s body was like a dagger to the heart. It was another death that he felt weighed down his soul. What if it was Mel next? Or Fyrtor, or Brolin? Death was inevitable in war, he knew. That simple truth had been repeated to him incessantly from childhood. But it didn’t make the loss any easier, and it was a price he’d avoid if at all possible.
Brookside GM
Kazador fires an arrow but he doesn't have a way to shoot at the mage from where he is standing. Thankfully, the arrow doesn't harm any of his friends in the middle of the room.
Grapple: 1d20 + 11 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 4 + 1 = 35
Dam: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Kazador fort: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
You hear the mage utter some word and the world seems to skip a beat, as if something suspicious just happened to time itself.
You suspect he just used time stutter.
The tentacles assiduously grappled everyone again (6 damage)! Suddenly, a strange-looking elemental appears overhead! Fyrtor recognizes it as an aether elemental. It turns toward Kazador and makes a beckoning motion! The dwarf feels something reach inside the null magic field and yank on him but he resists and keeps his feet.
Elemental is 10 ft off the ground, so was mage. So immediately over the head of a large, 10 ft tall creature.
You think the mage actually just moved, though you don't know how he got to his new location so quickly and quietly. He is now in the southeast corner of this area, 10 ft off the ground.
Party, GO again!
Fyrtor Smithson
Attempt to Escape: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Battling with the tenticles Fyrtor fails once again to free himself. With a wordless a cry of frustration he gives up the attempt. Why! Why is it never enough! Why must I watch as those around me die! Why am I never strong enough!
Fyrtor gazes at his friends while the tenticles tighten around him crushing his body, mirroring how the loss does his soul. Noticing Nelly's odd behavior he blinks back tears of anger and dispair as he follows the wolf's gaze. I'm sorry we failed your master.
"Damn you!" Fyrtor screams, his voice breaking as crushing hopelessness presses on his mind. In an act of desperation he points and wills the sphere to strike home.
Kazador The Clanless
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Kazador looked around, not knowing where the mage was. He felt his heart sink. This was all going so poorly. And there was nothing he could do! Unless...?
Bluff: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18
”Blast it!” He yelled out. ”Alright lads. Keep him busy. I’ll go get Lord Stonehammer and the Rune Warden. Don’t let him follow me, and get as many spells out of him as ye can.” As he left, he muttered (loudly) in Dwarven, that the warden was supposed to stay as fresh as possible.
With that he went around the corner and out of sight. He was a bad liar, he knew. But what else could he do? At the very least this might take the wind out of the mage’s sails. Make him feel the need to conserve his most powerful spells. Or potentially even try to flee. Either way, the ruse was all he could do.
Mel Elden
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24
Mel is free of the tentacles thanks to the null magic zone; but she is once again an archer with no visible targets. She quickly reviews her allies' status:
Túrion is dead, and Nelly appears intent on guarding his charred corpse. He might have had something on him that might prove useful in this situation; but Mel does not think Nelly is likely to let anyone touch her master's corpse. Especially not in the middle of a fight.
Nelly appears to be peering at something, but if it is the mage, he is around the corner and well out of reach.
Brolin is within her reach, but Mel suspects that she cannot heal him while she herself is standing in a null magic zone, and re-entering the room would very likely result in getting trapped in the tentacles once again.
Kazador is trapped in the null magic zone by spell-induced panic, and could not reach the mage to attack him even if he were free to move in.
Fyrtor, Algric and Kelian are all tangled in the seething mass of tentacles; none of them are within Mel's reach, even if she had something useful to do for them.
"This is beyond me," she whispers. "There is nothing I can do."
She raises one hand to the holy symbol that she wears about her neck, and prays, a short but fervent prayer: "Ai Ostara, en tiedä tahtoasi täällä; mutta jos se kuolee, niin odotan käveleväsi kentälläsi."
That's her turn. She's got nothing.
Kelian_Falchen
Kelian is not sure exactly where the mage has gone. Fyrtor seems to have sent a ball of fire into one corner, and the wolf is looking in the same direction; but there seems to be nothing here.
If he rolled a nat 20 on Perception, with a +5 circumstance bonus from Nelly, he would get 26. One shy of the DC.
The tentacles squeeze and constrict about him, but he stands serene, unafraid, and reaches out once more to heal his allies.
Channel Positive Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11
11 healing to everyone, including the mage but excluding Mel and Kazador.
In a moment of puzzled clarity, he realizes he is still holding the torch, which seems less important now. He tosses it gently back into the hallway they came from, where no one is likely to step on it inadvertently. It rolls across the floor and clatters to a halt fetched up against the wall.
I figure that's a move action -- he's not trying to attack anyone, so it's basically like dropping it, only tossing it a bit further away.

Sure thing, Kazador. It's a free action to yell whatever you want at the mage. But I'm sure you will want to be on hand should he be brought anywhere near your edge of the amf.
Sense motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Was certainly worth a shot.
Mel feels peaceful energy pouring over her and a sense of deep serenity.
Ostara grants Mel a hero point. Between hers and Brolin's, I'm sure you can make something work.
Fyrtor Smithson
Concentration check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Fyrtor, his arm still raised attempts to cast a spell to reveal the mage, but just as he begins the words of power a tenticles strikes his outstretched arm and the swelling power is lost.

We are all assuming Nelly points out the mage's new position. Is that the case, Turion? And does she break out of the tentacles?

Stuck in the mage’s spell, Algric felt despair grip him. What could he do against such power? He realized that he was going to die here. Looking up at the ceiling, the cold reality filled his heart. The same villain that had led to the murder of his son was going to kill him. And no amount of rage was going to stop that.
So he lay down, closed his eyes...and prayed. Prayed that Torag would have mercy on his soul. Prayed that when he died he would see his family again. And prayed that his god would bring about justice for all that transpired here.
Full Round Action praying for a hero point to give to Fyrtor: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Brookside GM
Algric feels a jolt from his god. It suddenly becomes clear to him that Torag would never encourage a dwarf to pray when there was fighting against a clear evil he should be doing instead!
That's not something we roll for, Algric. And Mel's deity is much less martial than Torag.

CMB: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Algric opened his eyes. Knowing that he was still going to die, he resolved to at least go down fighting. It was the only way to see his family again.
Standard to break free, can’t do anything else? Can he move to be in the anti-magic zone opposite of Kazador or is this it for the turn?
Nelly
Break free from tentacles: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
Tracking Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Honestly, I had hoped this could be a grapple against the mage. I did try and post earlier, then saw the double 20's in preview. I figured if the dice gods give me a sign, I'll wait and see if someone has means of making it happen - (then hating the fact that I did not exit the room but stayed after breaking free last time. In character to stay with Túrion, but it does risk other PC's lives to make sub-par decisions regardless.) I did not mean to be too blatant about it since I am not supposed to know, but I figured there's no sense to rush if there's a chance(I daresay Nelly is theoretically the best frontliner for this - autopinpoint, blindfight, and sufficient acrobatics to reach him - so it could have made sense to someone to push her. At the same time, she showed reluctance to leave Tùrion behind so it makes sense not to waste resources on her. Yay for mixed signals I guess ;)
*shrug* guess it was not meant to be.
Nelly easily shrugs off the tentacles, as if they were toys. She snarls in the Mages direction, staring directly his way, and shifting weight in anticipation of a pounce, clearly ready to attack if the mage left himself open for even a moment..
Unfortunately, no AoO vs invisible targets, so no sense approaching - Tentacles need to fail their grapple to give Nelly a chance to act. Here's hoping Kelian is not out of juice yet :)
