Ever careful, Dolos has a look around, to make sure no one else is spying on Garra and her so-called friends.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Blind as a bat unless they aren't hiding at all!

No one else is spying on Garra and her friends. At least, not yet.

She's also waiting on her old mates to respond to her answer. ;)

He shows her the coded note, which he palmed while spying upon two members of the band.

Perhaps we should intrude on a gathering of the Band of Shadows, he wonders. There would be no better way to acquire good intelligence.

Then, he asks Garra: "do you think that your old friends will play a role in our fight against the Band of Shadows? After all, disruption creates a void, which will need be filled?"

Ilbryn turns to his comrade. "Suspicious, nonetheless. Expect trouble."

The gnome returns to his office. "Alright that was a nice trip to the water closet," he said. "Where were we? Subordinates, correct?"

"Yes, to the various tasks required for you to keep your job, and quite possibly your freedom should the Commander hear you wasted time relieving yourself when you could have set people to work first."

Bluh, so sorry for not replying to this sooner. My mind must have turned to mush when I saw this.

"No," she says sadly, "I don't think they really like me that much and I don't think we could pay them enough."

Eyes narrowing, she turns to look at Dolos.

"How much did you hear of that anyway?"

"Most of it," Dolos answers honestly. "If they don't like you, and if the feeling is mutual, then... I assume they belong to some pervasive and illegal organisation? If we work against the Band of Shadows, we may need someone to take the fall. Could they play the part? Could we turn the Band of Shadows against them, or vice versa?"

"could that not simply result in us having two enemies instead of one?"

Garra shoots up onto her feet and turns to face Dolos.

"'Most of it?' What do you know," She demands, her eyes wide and her face pale as she takes a step, then two away from Dolos.

Are you there as well Kutishek?

"We all have our skeletons, and ghosts that haunt us," Dolos attempts to reassure her. "The wounds that we share define us, and can create bridges between us. For what it's worth, I know how you feel."

"HOW MUCH DID YOU HEAR," she shouts as she backs away another step. She looks ready to bolt.

"Calm down, Garra," Dolos pleads. Sincerely, he doesn't seem concerned about what he heard. Mind you, he is most difficult to read, and who knows what he really thinks. "Honestly, I don't care why you're a cadet at the Academy, or how you came to be there, so long as you can be trusted to do what is right. If you remain loyal to the Academy and to Karnath, then we'll be fine."

Tower cocks his head, observing the exchange.

Still here, still not much to do right now.

"Well, I'll have my best people working on it," the Librarian said. The little gnome turned his seat around for some effect. "We'll copy it by machine. Though some of the illuminations could take some work to copy, that's why it's going to take some time."

Garra's face is bone white as she takes another step back, then two, starting to turn away from Dolos.

Garra's gonna be bolting unless someone or something stops her.

"Hold on," Dolos urges. "I mean you no harm. I just want to talk. You have to help me understand: what are you so afraid of?"

Garra bolts, scrambling down to the alley way and disappearing into the slums.

Figured this was as good a way to get Garra out of the picture as any.
